    In Australia we use the Mercedes-Bens Sprinter 319 CDI 3.0L V6. We have the privacy glass here in AUS. One thing your department may want to look at is using light bars for the emergency lighting. Over the past few years they've moved to front and rear light bars to make it quicker and easier to fit out the ambulance, reduce costs and allows the reuse of the light bars. It's also more streamlined too. Furthermore all of our ambulances are what you call ALS ambulances crewed by 2 paramedics and we have roof mounted air conditioners. We only have paramedics here in Australia with some doctors and advanced and critical care paramedics in the response cars. Just something your department may wish to think about. I personally believe the van based ambulances are better and also cheaper. If you need a reference vehicle just google or facebook the Queensland Ambulance Service.

    How much approximately would it cost to do an ambulance and make it solar powered? Same question for a police car and fire truck tower truck?

    • @scottthornton2885

      Each application it can vary. For our QRS Explorers we did solar tap in for less than $1000.00 each. But they do not support HVAC strictly the electronic. Let me know if you need more info or help.

      Agreed, very claustrophobic. It may look great in concept but not great when shit hits the fan in the back. What happens when you need 2-3 providers to work on a patient in the back?

      ALS set up isn’t too much more big equipment than a BLS ambulance. Basically just a bigger bag with more drugs that you can easily fit in a compartment or on a seat.

    large ambulances in the US ... well tbh this wouldn't even run ALS calls in Germany, would only be used for BLS Transport Ambulances which primarily run non emergency calls; Not a fan of the Ford Transit to be honest

    • @HeroesNextDoor
      @HeroesNextDoor  3 роки тому

      Do you use sprinter vans for ALS?

    • @EnjoyFirefighting
      @EnjoyFirefighting 3 роки тому +1

      @@HeroesNextDoor yes we do, but not with the regular Sprinter van body but with a box body. There's a uniform primary EMS vehicle layout in my state, so 99% of all ALS units are based on the same chassis, have the same body system, compartments, color scheme, lights and sirens equipment etc, and the same thing goes for all BLS units and all Emergency Doctor Cars.
      This guy takes you on a tour through one of our kind of ALS units, however keep in mind this is not the very latest generation of ALS units, it's still based on the old Sprinter (automatic translated subtitles are available):
      ua-cam.com/video/37fOfhf2o0s/v-deo.html
      That's how the latest generation looks like from the outside, based on the new Sprinter chassis and with only minor changes of some details: ua-cam.com/video/UTy3PRXsGbA/v-deo.html
      We run Transit and Transit Custom as well, but for BLS only

    • @HeroesNextDoor

      That makes sense, that’s a good size, not overly huge, but definitely provider friendly

      @@HeroesNextDoor it has pros just like it has its cons, got to be honest I guess ;)
      There are some aspects I really do not like about them, like the low top speed which got limited to only 87 mph while the previous ones were able to go 100 mph (the max weight is rated at roughly 11k lbs). Thus unlike other EMS providers in other states which used e.g. Stryker PowerLoad or Ferno INX stretchers, they still run with completly manual Stryker M1 stretchers in this state, not really helping the crews' backs; Also, the level of the floor + the additional platform the stretcher is mounted on in the ambulance create such a height that we have to push the stretcher + patient uphill when loading, and push against the weight for smooth unloading. The first load/unload support system is tested now, however still with completly manual stretchers (and not the good kind, rather worse ones); Also with the patient being that high up the ride isn't that smooth for him with his high center of gravity. Also when you work inside the ambulance you have no access to the emergency backpacks at the side, you'd first have to open the side door (e.g. in case you are running out of material inside but still have some in the backpacks).
      The largest downside is that all primary comparments are at the wall between the cab and patient compartment, far out of reach for crews sitting next to the patient; If they need some stuff during the transport they have to unbuckle and stand up, far from safe in case of the driver performing an emergency driving maneuver.
      Last but not least we still run with the bulky and heavy Lifepak 15 instead of some lighter, better Corpuls C3; Also it's mounted to the wall in a way that you can't directly watch the screen but you need to turn and twist your head to see it;
      But the ALS unit offers sufficient space to work on a patient also in trauma situations; We run with paramedics but additionally have emergency doctors as part of our EMS system; in life threatening emergencies they'll work in the back of the ALS unit as well
