We toured an EMS station in Lancaster County, PA! This station plays a crucial part in keeping their community safe! ua-cam.com/video/S4MJ5UK-dlE/v-deo.html
A big THANK YOU to our home town heros!!! Unfortunately they have been called to my house more than once.... Stay Safe everyone. THANK YOU for what you do!!!!
Not bashing or anything but it’s crazy that there are departments that are able to spend 6 figures on a restoration on a vehicle that isn’t even a reserve apparatus when there’s other departments out there that can’t even afford to replace/repair their front line apparatus. Awesome department you guys have keep up the awesome work. Also love the orange !!!
I used to be the Arson Investigator with my local Sheriff's Department, and I was also the Fire Chief for my local VFD for many years. In that time I saw three rural Fire Departments totally destroyed by fire because none of us had sprinkler systems.
I was really hoping you were going to ask him why they picked yellow. It's so interesting to see the different color schemes of the different agencies and regions. Thanks for your great work brother
watching this from Oregon. Not sure how I found this video but I am glad I did. Everything about this department is very impressive and I LOVE all the history info that goes with it. Thanks for posting :)
May not be a fair comparison, but.. Elk Grove has a 20-25 year replacement policy for apparatus. To show how skewed some things are (excluding the obvious reasons/needs for the policy), Beverly Hills has a 10 year replacement policy (4 engines, 3 rescues, 2 BCs, a USAR and a tiller - the replaced apparatus is used as reserves for another 10 years), Los Angeles has a 10-15 year replacement policy (dependent on geography). LAFD reserves are as old as 30 years.
Yeah, it’s definitely important to have a replacement plan. Depending on how many calls they run I’ve seen some stations with 35 year old apparatus that still run perfectly and look new, but they are also not running many calls a year
Just subscribed and am looking forward to your other videos. Interesting thing I picked up towards the end regarding their antique. Elsie, the former owner's wife, called my hometown department, Purchase, NY, regarding the fate of our old antique as well. Her husband had purchased a whole bunch of old apparatus with the intention of starting a museum. Unfortunately he passed away before that could happen so Elsie reached out to the former owners and asked them to come and retrieve their old rigs or they would be scrapped. So my brother and a few of the other members headed out there with a flatbed tractor trailer and retrieved her. She is a 1957 Seagrave Quad that is still in excellent condition. Just thought I would share that with you. 👍🏻
One minor editorial note, toward the end you mentioned that members from one station could drive apparatus from the other, specifically the tanker and tower. WG does not have a tower, just a regular ladder. Otherwise a great video. My son works there as an EMT so it was nice to take a look to see where he works.
I wondered why they ordered a Seagrave to replace their 1998 Pierce. All of the other Apparatus they have are Pierce so makes sense as a maintenance point of view to keep having one Apparatus make. Probably Seagrave was a cheaper option.
@@HeroesNextDoor wish I did but I don’t unfortunately I don’t know too much about their history but I do know for a fact that Paterson and Clifton served and aid in NY during 9/11 so they have history which would make great for an episode in the future

As an English person I’m fascinated by these tours! None of our fire houses have names or number. How do they come up with the names and numbers? Is there any meaning to them?
It is funny that you commented this. As we traveled across the US we are finding the terminology to be so different. I personally never heard of a tender until Indiana. We don’t have many if any flying tankers :). It’s nice to learn how different people use the same equipment and name them differently also. The biggest one beside tanker vs tender is tower/ladder/aerial/or truck....
@@HeroesNextDoor sunday???? oh wow, when is the next vehicle review? on ambo??? There is this one ambo that is very rare but its a CVPI (Ford crown victoria) idk what CVPI stands for tho
@@HeroesNextDoor There has to more to it to have that many new rigs of that quality. A cell tower and the rural population size doesn't explain what I'm seeing.
Yeah I see that, they have a huge area that they cover and their first station is in a fairly populated area. Honestly they do a really great job fundraising, it’s the reason why they have 3 stations and have been around for so long.
Also the apparatus are owned by the township, the building and equipment is owned by them. They have to go to the township and present to them why they need new apparatus. The township takes into account how fiscally responsible they have been and whether or not the deserve more trucks.
@@HeroesNextDoor I was a firefighter in a region of America where the volunteer firehouses and equipment made firefighters from other regions jealous and yet I haven't figured out how this department with what amounts to a large rural fire district has pulled this off. At first I thought I would find out that they had massive estates hiding in their fire district or maybe Penn State was located there or a major company had a large investment to protect but nope couldn't find anything that made me say "Ah ha".
How do they afford to buy all those trucks? Especially being a mostly volunteer department? I understand fundraisers and what not...but there's not way they're doing fundraisers and raising a million dollars for a new ladder truck lol
The one thing that has really helped is the cell tower, that brings a lot in. They have a very strong community behind them. There is also a bunch of grants that help with the cost.
