  • Libertyrun became his sire Runhappy's first winner when he romped in a maiden special weight at Indiana Grand. He had been overlooked by bettors who made him a longshot, instead putting all of their money on a colt named Vulcan.
Libertyrun proved them all wrong, breaking beautifully from post position 13 to press the early pace. He overtook his foes with ease in the stretch, pulling away by 6 1/4 lengths.
How fitting it was for Runhappy's first winner to be bred and owned by James McIngvale. McIngvale owned Runhappy and made the stallion one of the most well-known racehorses of modern times by heavily promoting him.
Indiana Grand is also the track where Runhappy made his return to racing after a six month layoff early in his career. He ran in and won an Allowance race to help him gain experience as he worked towards a start in the Kings Bishop (G1).
Runhappy had run at Indiana Grand on July 7, 2015. Libertyrun made his debut on July 8, 2020. It was almost five years exactly. Things had truly come full circle.
Tragically, Libertyrun was injured in his next race and had to be euthanized.
We send our deepest condolences to breeder and owner James McIngvale (Gallery Racing), trainer Laura Wohlers, and all connected to Libertyrun. This is truly heartbreaking.
Gallery Racing is run by wonderful people who do right by the horse. If you would like to follow them, you can find them on Twitter @GalleryRacing. You can follow Runhappy's official Facebook at @TheOfficialRunHappy.
    Rest in peace, Libertyrun!
