Absolutely zero f's given with that spring compressor haha, just cranked er down and shoved er in there like it wasn't about to kill you at any second haha! Love it! I used one when I did my lift on my 6.7 2500 and man all i could do was work quick and gentle and hope for the best haha.

The problem with going long travel is that spare CV’s are not cheap. So you say you would but idk how many people are gonna spend thousands for spare parts
@@BigDogsGottaEat1 my tundra is an 05, about to sell it tho… it’s not a good daily with lift and big tires 😆 probably gonna get a GX470 some time in the future
Love u guy, was watching every episode, before u got to paytv... glad some episodes are still here, even when they are shortened ... would love to see u back here!!
Just sold my 2015 Wrangler Rubi and picked up a TRD Tundra 4wd (I needed towing capacity), I already love it!!!! 35's and upgraded suspension already done.
The 4.7L v8 at that Time the 4runner waS faST at that time... Then some people started gaining weight and started BuYing OverSized trucks & Suvs with Hemi's & other brands with more Hp outputs! All being said, the engine 2uz does outlast other brands more times than not. Cool 4wd journey man! Keep them coming..
Now that is the first time I've seen someone that doesn't just mash the pedal down and hope the drivetrain holds together whilst the poor vehicle bounces and jerks its' way up hill. Kudos to you good man. That is 4 wheel driving!
I remember the Red Sled! It was a 2500 Chevy Silverado. I was really bummed the front end proved so fragile. I think he got an ARB for that 9.25" front end, then started blowing axles routinely, then added stout aftermarket axles and cracked the whole diff case. Basically concluded that SFA was required for serious wheeling. 😕 Now look how far we've come!
Great video. To help break in new tires... best thing to do is air down to around 4-5psi and drive around a grassy field for 10-15 minutes to break in the side wall. Then air back up to 8-9psi to go wheelin.
Not too much Credit given?? They rolled Right on through the rock canyon. To me anyway. I really didn’t think that they would do that last Cliff ? That was something!
I own a 2005 4Runner Limited 4.7L. Mine only has 82,000 miles on it. I use it for light trail rides, camping, and towing my camp trailer. Best vehicle overall that I have owned. I have a built Jeep Wrangler I use for the hard wheeling.....
I got a 97 sr5 limited axle swap elock re geared 4.88 with toy tech lift 3.5 fully adjustable front and rear with a three link rear with 36x10.5r16s for 3700 last year best truck I've owned
The only plus side to IFS especially a Marlin RCLT on 40s is clearance. Since there is no diff pumpkin you can drive or slide over rocks that would usually catch the front diff.
Motortrend you should allow other country's to use your website to stream or don't horde all the shows that started on youtube and only release teasers
i agree. they would also have WAY more subscribers on youtube if they had the full show posted. but I am not going to a different website for every show that i would like to see, they are not that special
Sweet build and great video! I have been watching and reading on the RCLT kit for a while and seeing it in action is awesome! By the way. What front winch bumper is that?
They just casually threw together tens of thousands of dollars of parts under that, and made it look like a simple and easy thing
Yeah, the video was too short!
lma for real
Right?
Yup that rear end alone was $4000+
That's what I was thinking the whole time watching this. Im guessing about $12k of aftermarket parts.
Absolutely zero f's given with that spring compressor haha, just cranked er down and shoved er in there like it wasn't about to kill you at any second haha! Love it! I used one when I did my lift on my 6.7 2500 and man all i could do was work quick and gentle and hope for the best haha.
I'm so happy we got to watch the entire episode! thank you
.
That was more like a third of two episodes -- this didn't show most of the build, but at least it did show some good wheeling.
This was such a cool build, just like Fred I've always thought it a cool idea to build an IFS rock crawler out of a Toyota, Love it Thanks Guys
IFS huh.. you must be new
Remember when dirt every day was an awesome UA-cam show that contributed to the offroad community before Motor Trend Killed it? Love you guys, always a great show, I miss ya for sure!!
As tough as it seems I'd still carry around a couple cv's. Love the rig!
The problem with going long travel is that spare CV’s are not cheap. So you say you would but idk how many people are gonna spend thousands for spare parts
You can do a Toyota Tundra 1st Gen front suspension swap. AKA factory semi-long travel.
He has RCV cv axles in there, they are known to be the strongest cv axles available and comparable in strength to axle shafts in solid axles.
That’s 4runner V8 Is a beast I currently own one 2005 LIMITED V8 AWD beautiful video
I’m my opinion one of the best 4runners especially the 4.7, might be biased lol
For an IFS, I think it is hard to beat. It’s like the new Bronco in a lot of ways, but they started making it decades ago lol.
Definitely. Worth spending the extra cash to get a 2005+ 4.7 model for the power bump though

Them 40s look amazing on that 4th gen 4runner
Glad to see a full episode back on UA-cam.
Lets go rock crawling with flip-flops on.
I do all the time if it ain't raining
I don't even own flip-flops. Bleh.

Ok. Let’s go

I like the paint job.
Good to see a my gen of 4Runner is being tested! I have an 05 limited
Four Runners make great overlanders. Would love to see an overland build by Fred and Dave of a Four Runner for sure.
I’m actually currently building a budget Overlander 4th gen haha
Fordyce…. Yes one of my favorite trail
One of the best off-roading videos guys. Awesome 👏
Love seeing the Ole 2 door 4 runners. My favorite!
As a 3rd gen owner, this was one of the coolest things ever to watch. Even if that suspension costs more than the down-payment of a house😂
That marlin crawler long travel is supposedly coming eventually to the 3rd gen. I’m cool with my stock travel though.
My first car was an '03 4runner with the 4.7! Miss it for sure!
I just got an ‘03 4.7L 4Runner as my first car!

Yep... you got yourself a bona fide rock crawler there... doing things I could only dream of in my '95 Pathfinder.
I've never owned a 4WD, but I love watching Fred & Dave 👍😆
The chassis crunching noisss are so difficult to listen to though ! 😩
I have a 01 Tundra with the same engine, 4.7L with 370,000 miles on it, still strong.
Wish I had the guts to do this with my 1st gen Taco - 40s with IFS
First gen 4runner 🔥🔥🔥
With the 1 piece fiberglass removable top...yep. 👍 👍
Badass 4 runner. That rear end is very nice....
So sick!!! Love the look with the IFS.

Getting the merlin kit here soon and wasn't sure how to match up the rear axle. Just a week later come along this video and solved 1 headache.
One of the best episodes 👌🏼 yes, I’m partial 😉
Pretry cool build fellas💯🔥
Nice build Fred and team.
I got the same build 4th gen 4runner on 40" tires and on IFS.
Bevis and Butthead off road. You guys are great!😊
Great video. To help break in new tires... best thing to do is air down to around 4-5psi and drive around a grassy field for 10-15 minutes to break in the side wall. Then air back up to 8-9psi to go wheelin.
Depending on how thick the sidewalls are, you might need to air down even more than 4psi to get them bulging alot.
dude that was nuts! i wanted to see more of the fab of the truck! really good drives
Nice wheeling
Wtf that pink gorilla had me trippin hahah
I dont think anyone noticed it
It's been so long since I saw an ep. The pick gorilla slipped my mind but when I saw him recline that seat I busted out laughing.
Those older 4runners are sick! 🔥🤌

Full of refrigerator-sized boulders! Tough climb, indeed.
I really enjoyed watching this video!!!!! So awesome.

Stuck on a bigger rock.
And thus necessity really is the mother of invention. 😃

Anyone else notice the pink Sasquatch? 😂
I didn’t when I watched this episode on the app a few months ago, but rewound it a couple times for that part this time 🤔 😄

I had an 04 4runner that I still regret trading in to this day. 4.0 v6 and it was the champagne gold color this one was.
Same, but 04 with the 4.7l, then bought a pathfinder with the 5.6 v8. The only thing the pathfinder did better was go fast in a straight line!

One of the best IFS build ever !
One question: on those crawling paths IFS has some particular advantages on solid axle ?
No, it doesn't. There is a reason the majority of built up rock crawlers swap in a solid front axle into IFS front ends
@@rediron44 Thanks, I thought the same, but you have much more experience!
