The fact that you've been using such "old" triggers and module is really a testament to how good MIDI technology has been for a long time. Verrrrry neet.

@ hey, dude! You re quite emotional! MIDI is not only ON/OFF.
Ahhhh Yuuuur! I came to the trigger stuff through a cheap e-kit for my kids. Now I'm using EZDrummer2 and it's fucking amazin how great the sound, more precisly the dynamics actually is/are.

I just found your channel. I'm subscribed to several drum-centric channels. I must say, you're awesome, hilarious, and yet instructional. Thank you!
oh holy crap. i had a ddrum e-drum kit back in 2002. loved that thing. it was wicked loud for an e-kit and had the most real sounding samples (for the time).
You should play I’m a scat man. But it’s “I’m a BLAST man” I think it’s perfect for blasting
I was thinking about getting some for my drums after seeing this definitely made my mind up
Great guide. I got the same module and the red version of those triggers many years ago. They hold up a long long time. Still going strong.
That's some next-level shit, right there, you goiz. I know this video literally hurt to make. We appreciate you. Keep resting, ya bahee.
We are still getting some chungy and Yodi drumming videos right?...
So the different membership levels get videos a certain amount of time earlier?
6:20 so that's what happened to Borat, he started playing drums.
Samus!! can you please make a video about your recording gear, the audio interface, the mics and your DAW
Literally just seen this man because of his how drummers knock video and I’m not gonna lie he’s pretty damn good
Welcome to the blast beat master 🤘
Damn didn’t expect to get anyone to like and comment lol I just wish they do that on my channel more often
I love the way your bass and toms sound... I have that same interface but my triggers are red :( but if it wasn’t for trying to reload and find my saved sound files for my drums I’d totally knock the dust off it! You are definitely a Triggering master sir!
0:04: The Elderly sub you get in 9th grade
Nice job with the triggers. I also use them when I mix live bands. Few people know that you can convert midi cable to XLR and run it through an analogue snake to FOH and convert xlr back to midi then into your interface to control the drum software (Like EZ drummer) from FOH.
Please elaborate!
That's not very clear ? Hence not many people know the reason why you would want to do this?
Foh ...emm.. farts on horseback? Am I getting close
Sorry about that. Let me try and elaborate...
Would you like to have triggers on your drums for a live performance with zero latency? Like a sick rock band or whatever. You connect the triggers on the drum kit, hookup the triggers to your drum midi module or whatever creates the midi notes, then into your midi usb interface. Open your DAW, create an instrument track and load up you favorite drum VST (Slate drums/Superior Drummer, etc.) then Arm record or enable live input monitoring on that track, so that any midi input from your triggers, trigger the plugin. (As if your hitting notes on a midi keyboard to hear the sounds). Whenever the drummer plays, you have your super nice sounding drums comping out of that PC. Then hook the output of your interface to your FOH console.
But here's the thing, many times you would want the PC running the DAW with the drum software next to you at FOH so you can tweak the velocity curves, sensitivity etc. instead of running up and down. That creates a problem because the drum module that create the midi notes is usually located next to the drums on stage. Some drum modules have both MIDI outs and a USB out built it. Problem #1: You can't run a USB cable from the drum module on stage to the PC at FOH, simply cause USB cables can't run that far. Another idea is to run a straight old MIDI cable from the module (midi out) to FOH, into a MIDI/usb interface into the PC, but then there's problem #2: you can't run a MIDI cable to FOH simply because such long MIDI cables don't exist and most "pro's" will tell you that you MIDI can't transmit that far. BUT HERE'S THE THING, IT CAN! And you don't need a 150ft MIDI cable.
MIDI cables have 5pins. BUT ONLY 3 OF THEM ARE USED. Like since it's invention. It never used all 5 pins. The two outer pins do nothing. They only created the 5-pin MIDI connector so to not confused it with other things like XLR, etc. So here's what you do: You take an old 3ft MIDI cable. Cut it in half, and solder an XLR male connector to the one and a an XLR female connector to the other (you will have to open the MIDI connector to see which wires go to which pins, or use a multi-meter). You end up with 1x MIDI to Male XLR, and 1x MIDI to Female XLR. (So that they can plug back into each other and still be the same MIDI cable). Then hookup the MIDI-Male XLR from the Drum module into the Analogue snake which goes all the way to FOH. There you take the corresponding channel and hookup the other half, the Female XLR to MIDI. And voila! You have MIDI signals at FOH (and yes, MIDI can transmit that far!) Plug the MIDI end into your MIDI/USB interface and into your DAW. Now you have control of the Drum software while standing at the sound desk.
If you REALLY want, I can make a video. But that should explain it.
@@christiaanbezuidenhout6984 Why you must do this if you can connect the Audio/Midi Interface stereo output to the FOH (as you name it) straight and have sound for the Live recording or playing?Isn't that possible ?If not you can take sound from the headphones out of the interface too.The Audio cables can go far from the set easily. You need only the 2 L/R channel cables and all roll good!NO??
@@christiaanbezuidenhout6984 genius

I've had that very set up in my shopping cart for a month, thank you for this!
You're a bloody legend. Thanks for this
Really wish I can hear that drums get played without the damn triggers
Those drumtesting grooves are freakin beautiful =D
They sound great.. your an amazing drummer. Good video.
Those triggers are a beauty and they're gonna sound beastly for the streaming.
Ah yes, the sound of drum triggers. That's totally a thing.
@@grunions9648 Maple drum triggers are warmer than birch drum triggers. Totally changes the piezo-electric sensor signal.
@@MajykOyster666 Actually you're right, I'd also forgotten that the color of them affects timbre through optical modulation of the carrier signal, which in turn is processed by EZDrummer as an aftertouch source with filter cutoff as the target. It's the same way that my midi keyboard (also a trigger for samples) has a defined top-end and rich lower-mids, with a presence bump at around 2kHz, because its made of tone plastic.
@@grunions9648 Actually, it's proven that chrome Ddrum triggers give 7% more sustain than red ones. I read it on the interwebs.
Excellent video man! I'm very interested in checking these out.
You always mention your wrist pains. When I used to play (cry) I wore those tennis players wrist bands. It helps A LOT. Once I started using those, I never could play without it. I always felt that my wrists were unprotected and I felt a great deal of the shock that the stick produces when it hits the drum. Idk, maybe you already tried it, but, it's good to know. mkay?
11:01 the part that starts around there kinda sounds like Origins Saligia, and the part right after kinda sounds like a part from synthetically revived (pierced from withing version)
Luv the editting
7:05 pizza break lol
I'm not going to lie. I actually really like your Raid commercials in your videos. The way you talk about it I can tell you've played it a long time and really like the game. I might actually check it out!
Love this guy, he’s a lot of fun and a Damn fine drummer! I’ve had so much experience with triggers on Mylar heads. I’ve had all versions of the ddrum ones ?redshot, pro and ddt) pintech 2box, Triggera intrigs and the chrome elite. There’s so many pros and cons with each. Ddrum are generally the best for triggering but damn, I went through so many piezos and so went for the chrome elite thinking they’d be more robust as they’re designed more sturdy. Nope, done the first one in in the same amount of time. I hope you have better luck than I.
I have this same operation waiting for me...got that same trigger interface last friday🤘
Oh no. My dude has been possessed by Raid: Shadow Legends ads. 😰😰😰
Gotta make that money
The funny thing is that he actually plays the game. Look on his twitch
3:19 Tony, you don't even know!
Jeez this sounds so good! I want MY kit to sound like this!
Hey Sam. Just wanted to say that I've been blown away watching your drumming videos. Since you're using triggers and MIDI, any chance you've got an archive of MIDI drum tracks that us inferior/non-drummers might be able to access to edit or take a look at to try and figure out how to get a more realistic drum sound using software?
I loved the reference to BORAT
Drum triggers are awesome, my se4 is still going strong, I bought it in 2003 great vid

LOVE the Alesis Trigger I/O!
I'm a simple man. I see Samus on my recommended I watch.
Haha! I just dug up some of my old gear I was touring with in 1995/96. Alesis D4 with a bag full of Hart triggers for my old 10 piece Pearl kit. Man have things changed for the better.
I'm fine thank you!
Ever since I've watched this video I have seen the ddrum ad pop up on my feed like 222 times 👍Thanks Samus 🙏
Nice setup! i am thinking of using those triggers too. Would be great to see, how you mix it and record it with your cymbals. Do you just use 2 overheads and a mic for the ride and the hihat? Which mics do you use? cheers from switzerland!
Your so amazing bro, you like a machine. No way I can get that on that level.
Good for u Sam. Just a little tip. The module is identical to the Alexis trigger I/O. I experienced some inputs dead. After warranty of course...
I got those same triggers 2 months ago!!!!!!! I hope they rock for you
module to run a 10 piece set? 8/10/12/13/14/15/16/28/kick/snare. No need for cymbals. Can I run toms through the cymbal inputs?
great video. as a totally noob - i´ve got a new/similar triggersystem last week (the red ones + same module) - but how do i set the module into reaper? got my laptop with reaper, but my install setup stopped over there. did i need a plugin? i´m kind of overwhelmed atm...
thanks anyway, those videos help alot
Man not only are you funny as hell and on my exact comical wavelength but you can back that s*** up mister fast footsies. I guess you have earbuds in or whatever in-ear monitors God that would just make someone play better that sound is so inspiring plus you don't have to kill the drums. I had the D4 back in the day all I ever really used it for was the kick drum with an 18 cabinet and smaller places throwing it from the stage which did had a nice effect when you were on your own stick PA. But wow amazing! And I was curious was the dog barking at the pizza guy delivering the pizza you took the brake for?
Yo that raid shadow legends set up was slick AF....you legit got me lol well played
That's dope! 😱
I bought that Elite Pack over a year ago and I have always struggled with the configuration using ADD2.. I was about to sell it but now I think I'll have to take a look at the configurations... again. What I can assure you is that these triggers are very durable, even when hitting with the stick..
Absolutely loving the Borat reference.. its great!!
Samus: why does my wrist always hurt?
Also samus: 200 notes per second on the snare drum
Looks like you’ll be liking those!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
Sounds so sick man!! Which library from ez drummer are ya using??? Particularly the kick!
Hey samus my man🤗. Thumbs up with setup 👍. U like the ddrums dtti🤔?
great vid! cheers
So I love your videos, and I have a question. What do I need to start playing drums?
I bought the same exact setup like 5 years ago lol. DDTi is just an interface, not technically a module, like you said. I think you should stress to folks you have a shit ton of those moon gel type things on your drum heads which is super key in my opinion to preventing the sustain that can create false and double triggers. without those moon gels you would be getting a shit ton of false and double triggers no matter what kind of settings you use on the DDTi. at least that is my experience, you need to "treat" the kit with as much as attention as you put into adjusting your settings on the trigger interface. Without moon gels I think this issue is only exaggerated in something as fast as death metal.
Thanks for this, I have an acoustic kit with mesh heads, that was super easy to set up/trigger, but I’ve been having a hell of a time with my actual acoustic kit with normal heads
@@andrewbarrett6403 are you using these ddrum triggers on your mesh heads?
@@tombrown4074 no, I have a converted kit with mesh heads that have internal triggers, and it’s pretty flawless.. I figured these on my acoustic kit would work the same, but they’re def harder to get accurate
Sounds great! Oh yurrr!
The DDT is actually really old technology as well . I use to have one back in the early 00's but couldnt get it to work properly. Good for recording but not for monitoring as there is too much lag from latency
They sounds really good!!!
These sound great! I hope this can help me out with my insane double triggering issues. No matter what i did, i still get double triggers on every freakin piece😂
You’re kick ability is stupid good!
what samplepack for EZdrummer do you use here..? sounds great! :)
Hello again man!! Yes me!!HAHA! I wanna ask you with this ddrum module you don't use it as to extend the trigger inputs from your drum module cause you didn't use drum module and connected straight to your ezdrummer software and recording from your daw?? Can you explain a bit the connectivity? From trigger to ddrum module and after to your midi input of the Audio Interface? So you didn't have a drum module cause it's not needed?I'm a bit confused and i think to convert my acoustic kit for only the shells to electronic and let the cymbals as is to lowering the total noise cause i haven't an sound isolation place to play and my old parents became to be crazy from the drumming!!Thank you man!
Dang bro that sounds hecka good! \m/ \m/
Great video. Subscribing now. Im new to the drumming world when it comes to record. How can you record the cymbals simultaneously?
That raid transition was gold
Awesome sauce!
That module is basically a rebranded Alesis Trigger I/O. I've been using one for a few years now. Not the most intuitive to program, or that solidly reliable, as it sometimes poops out random settings if left off for an extended period of time, but it's kept my drumming sanity intact, as well as my roommate's over the years. Oh yeeeeeaaahr.
HOLY SHIT.
EPIC marketing with the ad placement!

Just saw this video. I'm looking at purchasing a couple of the ddrum Chrome Elite Triggers.
How are the Kick Triggers on EMAD Heads. I saw the video with the Roland triggers. Are the ddrum triggers that different?
Great videos.
I've never had an issue, but some people like to cut a hole in the EMAD foam so the trigger can touch the head better
You should be fine either way :)
I dont even play the drums (they seem fun to play) but this channel is so entertaining it has the funny and the metal
