Ever since I was teenager listening to Madonna, I always imagined this song for my daughter. Now that I have kids, I played this song to my first born and she loves it. Until today, she is 16, she and I still listen to it all the time. It's our song. Madonna always perfects her work.
Agree. It wasn't (undeservedly) as famous as other songs because it was so different from what Madonna had produced so far. A children's lullaby wasn't the kind of thing people expected when this album was released. But it really is a good, sweet song, showing a preview of what she would do in Ray of Light, that was made about the time when she became a mum.
Like a Prayer contains the most eclectic, yet conceptual, group of songs. If there's an album capable to include all the possible Madonnas, past and future, that's Like a Prayer. Dear Jessie is a proof of that.
How I miss the days when Madonna made such songs... Timeless melodies, warm & human musical arrangements, real vocals, no autotune, no generic rappers, no trends... just pure music and pure talent. Where has this artist gone ?
I mean she didn't write this song. What we fall in love with tend to be production teams even if we don't realize it. Nothing wrong with it. But it explains why they often go through such dramatic changes.
@@noonegetstheprize Yeah, I know, I'm such a bully. She's sooooo tired of me trying to force her into making music that she doesn't want to make. It's gotten to a point where she doesn't even want to look at what people are writing about her on UA-cam, for fear of running into me (because yes, she DOES read our comments, since she really cares about what random strangers think). As a matter of fact, after wiping away her tears last night, she was just about to cave in and to call Stephen Bray, because she couldn't take the pressure from me anymore. Then she also read your comment, and her world brightened up. She felt vindicated, validated, loved, understood. She said, "The hell with Cicilo1983 ! I'm going to listen to noonegetstheprice instead. I'm calling [insert generic rapper of the week that no-one will care about in three months], and I'm puttin' on my iconic eyepatch again !"". @@Cicilo1983 LOL People can't stand other's opinions these days. I'm with you: she got lazy. Apart of her just going with the flow with the last trends, she is using up her previous successes (new -shitty- version of Frozen, new --shitty- version of Hung Up, re-release of the Sex Book). I loved her creativity back in the days. I have been fan of hers from the Like a Virgin era but I didn't even bougth her last 3 studio album, they bore me to death. I love her personality and that she makes just what she feels like, but about her current music I am not interested at all.

Thank you Madoona been listening to alot of her songs and am really greatful she is still with us. She might drop a song anytime now. She proved she is The Queen of Pop so take your time.
I love when this song seamlessly goes into "Oh Father" in the album, it is just perfect the no gap between the songs, that gives a special touch to "Dear Jessie" and "Oh Father "...
My dad used to play this song to me every night as a child in the early 2000s. I had it on a CD looped multiple times & every time I saw he was on the computer I’d ask him to play “pink elephants and lemonade”. Now, as an adult, I’ve moved to a different country and every time I miss him I play this song. Makes me feel right where I belong.
This song came to me in the most unexpected moment. My mom passed away when I was an infant, so when I want to have some kind of contact with her I "visit" the street where she grew up and stop by her former home just to "be there". This always results in something abnormal happening. Last time (tonight) this is what happened. I was feeling down and wanted to hear from my mom. Five minutes after passing by her home I turned on my UA-cam app to hear the presidential debate but couldn't get it and this song showed up at the top of my list. I'm a big Madonna fan and had never even heard it. My mom sent it to me when I needed to hear from her. I know I'm a dreamer, but it works for me. And my real name is Jessica so yes, even that part she got right. Thank you Madonna! amazing song and I know you lost your mom too, so the song has so much meaning. Oh Father is also one of my top ones because it also hits home in such a way. Love both. Madonna is a genius, absolutely love her work.
+Jessica Pliego Have you heard Promise To Try from this album? It's about her mother. I'm sure it would be a tough song for you to listen to; I can't listen to it without crying myself. But it's a beautiful song.
Me, too. It's the best moment on what is already a great album. The innocence of Dear Jessie is then subverted by the lost innocence and pain of Oh Father. Such art.
This album came out at the height of the AIDS epidemic, provided much comfort, assuaged the fears of many and was for lack of a better word, a true antidote for all ignorance concerning said crisis. Championing for us all, Madonna even included an AIDS awareness, educational insert. THANK YOU KINDLY.

Like a prayer is my favorite Madonna album. One review I read in the past described it's eclectic variety of styles as kaleidoscopic. Much of it is rooted in 60s pop and rock, as well as 70s funk. It was maybe just another attempt to reinvent herself, but I must say, true artistry was achieved here. This song was a crucial piece of the album as a whole. It makes me think of the Beatles and the Mommas and the Papas. I really love how this lullaby of a song seamlessly turns into the son Oh Father. That song is dark and emotional, yet with a theme of healing. The juxtaposition of both songs, one right after the other might seem jarring thematically, but it works beautifully. Listen to the LAP album if you haven't already!
I still remember vividly seeing and hearing this song when it was brand new, when I was a kid. It's a sugar covered candy-kiss that tastes like sunshine and rainbows :) I still love it and it touches me a lot. It's probably Madonna's most sweetest song ever.
I remember hearing this song when I first bought the Like a Prayer album on cassette for my 13th birthday. The song takes me back to a confused time of my life and Madonna’s cassette was a little light and reassurance. There will never be another Madonna. I heard this song on the radio this morning. I just realized it's a song I haven't heard in a long time. I knew it when I was a child, and it faded as I grew up. It feels a mix of sadness and joy. Finally, I found it and could remember my childhood memories again.
I love it! Clean wholesome immagination and fun, very whimsical and magical think this single is one of her best. But" TRUE BLUE" got to be my favorite over all.
1987-1988-1989 were the great years when i was a student in the college Özel Ortadoğu. i had begun to learn English those days with our Madonna. Every song was a new lesson for me. The "Dear Jessy" was a very special song memorizing the lyrics which i will love forever. Thank you my teacher "Madonna".
Dear Mihai, Hehehe, thanks for your kind words about me. I am neither an Erdogan nor another name's fan aggresively...I like my country and considering and worrying about Turkey's future of course. So, i support the politicians who speak the true(s) even they are Erdogan or the others... By the way, Where are you from? Romania?
Respects. You are some right since USA plots evil plans for Middle East and of course Turkey... This military coup attempt was their desire but thanks to Allah and the Turkish citizens it failed...
Over the years I have come back to this song time and again. It's kinda funny that it has stayed the same but as I have become older it has taken on many different meanings to me. As a girl it was a promise of beautiful future. As a mother at 25 years old it was a hope for my children to keep their Innocence as long as possible. At 40 it was a lullaby for my grand daughter to listen to as she drifts off to sleep. Now I'm approaching 50 it has become the song I want to be played at my funeral. I know it seems dark but it is what I feel will happen to me when my time comes. That the pain I have known, battles I have fought, disappointments in life, all the ways that the world has shown me will be as if they never happened and I will be in that world of make believe that I never gave up on. 💓🐘🍋🍬💋☀️ 💓🎪
I'm not a Madonna fan. But Like a Prayer is a piece of art. And this song is really, really special. The videoclip is adorable... Where did all the love go?
My little sister's name is Jessie She is stuck in a wheelchair and can't walk or talk and I always dream n think of her being free in her imagination n mind. This song moves me deeply. ❤️💞❤️
Loads of people I’ve shown this to have never heard either your not alone catchy tune reminds me of being a kid….check out Elton John’ original sin I’ve shown people that who know there music and him and have never heard it great song and story to the song aswell ✅
Without all of Madonna songs here, this dear Jessie is and always will be my number one favorite by her. There's just something about this song that I can't get enough of.
Everytimei hear this beautiful song- My Sister Jessie is in my thoughts.. remember the day this come out and brought, played to her as a little baby. Memory's ❤
With all of Madonna's pop prowess, this song shows the versatility of the artist in her long imperial phase -- so different from her other singles, with its childlike sense of wonder and playfulness. And the fact that this song appears on the same album as the haunting "Like a Prayer" and "Oh Father," the funky "Express Yourself," and the endearing "Cherish" that is a pastiche of '60s-meets-'80s pop... is astounding. An underrated moment for Madonna on, perhaps, her best album.
This song is one of my all time favorites. When I am asked who songs this song almost everyone is in disbelief that it is Madonna. They asked when did she come out with it.. IDK sometime after like a virgin.
It’s all about childhood innocence and all things good so yeah, it can be a bit emotional. I especially from this song. So underrated and under-played if at all, on the radio.
I had this single on 7" vinyl when I was 15. It's such a pure and gorgeous song and a rarity in that it caters to children and the child within the adult listening too and so few songs actually do. Madonna was at her height in her Like A Prayer album.
thank you ! i do not really like thi video but this song did & still does woners for me. i think of both my boys wen this be play'd now they r 16 & almost 18 & it still gets under my skin my boys know y love for Madonna but this song really gets it :-)

The versatile Madonna. This song makes me always cry. Great child song. Lots of memories. Love Madonna with this song oh and Jessie is a cute girl too. You can never grow old though time passes! Never age inside a great feeling song whenever you feel down!
MADONNA deserves to be mentioned as among the all time greats in Popular Music History of our century. This song alone carries so much weight to her already impressive long list of giant Hits we all grew up during our schooling days. it does not matter that her Vocal is not the greatest in the world (if there is such a thing). Her ingenuity in song writing will always be admired and appreciated forever... long after she and this generation are gone....only to be admired and appreciated by the future generations.
Wow this is the first time I saw or heard of this song. This song totally passed me by , I was 10 when this song was originally released in 1989, I am sure as a 10 year old I would have loved the animation and the tune. Now as a 41 year old I am enjoying it as well thanks to the internet and UA-cam. Wonderful world of nostalgia.
Me❤ I had the album right after it was released. This song is speaking about the highest frequency that is hidden in human heart . If you operate out of this particular frequency on every day basis it will save you from today's worldly chaos❤
I remember crying when I first heard this. It was so different from everything she had done to that point . This was just sheer magic and whimsy and I adored it. Still do.
That's a startling comparison. It really is like Madonna's Beatles song. With the animation as well, you can imagine this being in The Yellow Submarine.
Yep, this could have been on Sgt Pepper or Yellow Submarine and it would have gotten the credit it deserves. One of Madonna's finest. Possibly I'm biased, being a Jessica but it's one of the two songs which feature my name I actually like. The second is Jessica by the Allman Brothers.
I was just thinking this is so Beatles! Like a Prayer it's a phenomenal album that deserves to be regarded universally as one of the greatest albums ever made.
There's very little of her music that i don't know by memory! I started liking Madonna back in 84. I've seen her 6 times in concert, i own most of her music and i hoked up with one of her dancers! I think I must be a fan!

One of the greatest albums of the 80's
Happy 60th Birthday Queen Madonna!! Thank you for this beautiful song! ♥
One of Madonnas best songs imo, imagine being a child having her singing you to sleep bedside, lovely lyrics
Beautiful sentiment Steven. Merry Christmas from Ireland 🇮🇪
Unbelievably beautiful and charming video.
Madonna
Why does it feel like there's a hidden sadness to this song?
Because we miss the good memory of childhood
I heard this song on the radio this morning. I just realized it's a song I haven't heard in a long time. I knew it when I was a child, and it faded as I grew up. It feels a mix of sadness and joy. Finally, I found it and could remember my childhood memories again.
I love it! Clean wholesome immagination and fun, very whimsical and magical think this single is one of her best. But" TRUE BLUE" got to be my favorite over all.
Anyone else in love with the strings bit at the end? :D
Yes! I also love how the string outro of "Dear Jessie" segues into the string intro of "Oh Father" on the "Like A Prayer" album. :D
Is very classy. You usually don't associate Madonna with this kind of music
I even make this song's outro as my phone ringtone. it is joyful, simple and brings good spirit💕💯😍😘
Im in love with this song

1987-1988-1989 were the great years when i was a student in the college Özel Ortadoğu. i had begun to learn English those days with our Madonna. Every song was a new lesson for me. The "Dear Jessy" was a very special song memorizing the lyrics which i will love forever. Thank you my teacher "Madonna".
so nicely put :)
MrRD1981 thank you dear... ✌
Mihai? Me? 😊
Dear Mihai,
Hehehe, thanks for your kind words about me. I am neither an Erdogan nor another name's fan aggresively...I like my country and considering and worrying about Turkey's future of course. So, i support the politicians who speak the true(s) even they are Erdogan or the others...
By the way,
Where are you from? Romania?
Respects. You are some right since USA plots evil plans for Middle East and of course Turkey... This military coup attempt was their desire but thanks to Allah and the Turkish citizens it failed...
Omg, I forgotten about this song. Her voice was so nice and fun... Love you queen
2:28 - 2:52 - My favourite part. I love her singing in her higher register. That bit is so good.
I'm not a Madonna fan. But Like a Prayer is a piece of art.
And this song is really, really special.
The videoclip is adorable...
Where did all the love go?
My little sister's name is Jessie
She is stuck in a wheelchair and can't walk or talk and I always dream n think of her being free in her imagination n mind.
This song moves me deeply. ❤️💞❤️
Made me burst into tears , I miss those days more then you’ll ever know
This song always makes me emotional... I simply love it!
I can't express with words how much I love this song and video...
Madonna has 4 albums in the Greatest Albums of all Time list by Rolling Stone: Like a Prayer, The Immaculate Collection, Ray of Light and Music!!!! 💛
My mom would sing this to me when I was little. Even when I moved out I fell close to her when I hear this song even when we are miles apart.
I think of my dear sister Jessie. First time watching this video. Very good😀
I've been listening to Madonna since the late 90s and today December 12, 2022 is the 1st time I've heard this song!
It was the 1st song together with Cherish I heard in 1990 and I didn`t think she was something like "sex-symbol"!)))
Loads of people I’ve shown this to have never heard either your not alone catchy tune reminds me of being a kid….check out Elton John’ original sin I’ve shown people that who know there music and him and have never heard it great song and story to the song aswell ✅
I love this song of her. Love the sound of the trumpets
Today is 5 years since my son Jessy passed away at the age of 15. This song always makes me think it was made for him
So sorry for your loss
I'm So Sorry and sending hug to you.
Those 15 years will last forever in your ♥.
Love the name Jessy.
Was a choice for one of my 5 Boys.
Sorry for the loss fella
hi just read your coment about this song and to me it is a beautiful song and I am very sorry for your loss
A charming, underrated gem.
I believe it's the only Madonna video in which she doesn't appear (that is in her real form, not as an animated fairy).
Am I the only one who would get emotional and even cry whenever listening to this song?
Not only you.
crying at the moment. so no.
i believe that anyone who gets emotional with this song is a good person
Ohhh, thank God I'm not only one crying to this song. 😉 It's time to introduce my little doughter to this song
Madonna was at her height in her Like A Prayer album.
what an arangement!!!!!what a composition….!!! amazing
I finally found this song on the internet and was elated to hear it once again. I love this song cheers to Madonna on a great collaboration.
thank you ! i do not really like thi video but this song did & still does woners for me. i think of both my boys wen this be play'd now they r 16 & almost 18 & it still gets under my skin my boys know y love for Madonna but this song really gets it :-)
"Dear Jessie"
Released: December 10, 1989
[Verse 1]
Baby face, don't grow so fast
Make a special wish that will always last
Rub this magic lantern
He will make your dreams come true for you
Ride the rainbow to the other side
Catch a falling star and then take a ride
To the river that sings and the clover that
Brings good luck to you, it's all true
[Chorus]
Pink elephants and lemonade
Dear Jessie, hear the laughter running through the love parade
Candy kisses and a sunny day
Dear Jessie, see the roses raining on the love parade
[Verse 2]
If the land of make believe
Is inside your heart it will never leave
There's a golden gate where the fairies all wait
And dancing moons for you
[Pre-Chorus]
Close your eyes and you'll be there
Where the mermaids sing as they comb their hair
Like a fountain of gold you can never grow old
Where dreams are made, your love parade
[Chorus]
Pink elephants and lemonade
Dear Jessie, hear the laughter running through the love parade
Candy kisses and a sunny day
Dear Jessie, see the roses raining on the love parade
[Post-Chorus]
Your dreams are made inside the love parade
It's a holiday inside the love parade
[Bridge]
On the merry-go-round of lovers and white turtle doves
Leprechauns floating by, this is your lullaby
Sugarplum fingertips kissing your honey lips
Close your eyes sleepy head, is it time for your bed
Never forget what I said, hang on you're already there
[Pre-Chorus]
Close your eyes and you'll be there
Where the mermaids sing as they comb their hair
Like a fountain of gold you can never grow old
Where dreams are made, your love parade
[Chorus]
Pink elephants and lemonade
Dear Jessie, hear the laughter running through the love parade
Candy kisses and a sunny day
Dear Jessie, see the roses raining on the love parade
[Post-Chorus]
Your dreams are made inside your love parade
It's a holiday inside your love parade

Album LIKE A PRAYER (1989)
Gracias, no sé por qué pero esta canción me hace llorar, pero es tan bonita 😢
I was 13 in 1989, if this song doesn't touch people's souls, nothing will.....#Madonna
This song make me yearn for the time when a kids bedroom was like that in this video. Childhood was amazing back then. Simple. Easy. Carefree.
The versatile Madonna. This song makes me always cry. Great child song. Lots of memories. Love Madonna with this song oh and Jessie is a cute girl too. You can never grow old though time passes! Never age inside a great feeling song whenever you feel down!
Magical!
Samantha Pottinger Exactly. Magical Madonna....
The cutest song ever
One of my all time favorites. Brings a smile to my face and makes me feel young
Just great, now I have to remember those days when life was ahead of me.. I miss this song and don’t know how I forgot this😭
Truly a Magical and Meaningful Song, it lifts up spirit and made u travel back to your childhood days, Musically Amazing!!! 🤗🤗🤗
She already has.... wakey-wakey ;))))
Yeah, she's got more talent than me, but personally I wouldn't even say she was good. Nice song though.
My God, how wonderful this is!!! I'm crying from this masterpiece!!!
Who is watching this video in 2024? hands up❤😂
Me❤
I had the album right after it was released. This song is speaking about the highest frequency that is hidden in human heart .
If you operate out of this particular frequency on every day basis it
will save you from today's worldly chaos❤
Never saw the music video until this day and I was a teenager when this song came out/the Album I owned on cassette tape!! Lol!!!
I remember crying when I first heard this. It was so different from everything she had done to that point . This was just sheer magic and whimsy and I adored it.
Still do.
A true testament, of how AMAZING Madonna's voice is. And a truly beautiful song.
Actually my favorite Madonna's song. I do love this song!!!!
This takes me back to my childhood love madonnas voice brings back memories just amazing and so underrated
if the beatles had written this and george martin produced i wouldnt blink. One of Madonnas finest tunes.
That's a startling comparison. It really is like Madonna's Beatles song. With the animation as well, you can imagine this being in The Yellow Submarine.
A genius comment
Yep, this could have been on Sgt Pepper or Yellow Submarine and it would have gotten the credit it deserves. One of Madonna's finest. Possibly I'm biased, being a Jessica but it's one of the two songs which feature my name I actually like. The second is Jessica by the Allman Brothers.
I was just thinking this is so Beatles! Like a Prayer it's a phenomenal album that deserves to be regarded universally as one of the greatest albums ever made.
RIght, the strings and horns and the switch to 3/4 time in the middle part is very Beatle-esque.
Queen of the 80's ❤️ Incredible song
My mom sang this to me as a kid-- it's weird to watch the video cuz I've had such different visions of it since I was a kid. One of the best songs.
The instrumentation put into this song is pure ART
There's very little of her music that i don't know by memory! I started liking Madonna back in 84. I've seen her 6 times in concert, i own most of her music and i hoked up with one of her dancers! I think I must be a fan!
Madonna always surprises with something unexpected like this song. she's very creative!
This was one of my cousin’s favourite song. She passed away more then six years ago this year. When I hear this, I always think she is in a better place and no more in pain. RIP Catherine. Love you forever!🙏
Posiblemente la canción MAS BONITA de Madonna😍😍😍🥹🥹🥹😌☺😌
Showing some love to the queen....one of my favourite songs from my childhood.....remember watching this on TV at my nans house oh the memories X 1989 Christmas time...
