I was the costume designer and stylist on set for this video. Super-fun gig. Love to see it coming around again. This was shot on a sound stage in Queens, and directed by James Foley. Yup, THAT James Foley. Madonna's dress has 80 separate pieces sewn together so it would move beautifully, and she could dance without it shifting. No stretch material involved. Yes, that's Debi Mazar and the black girl is Erica, a frequent backup dancer for Madonna. The Latina's name I don't recall, she was someone's cute friend. At the time (1986), Madonna and Sean were very much in love, and an adorable couple.
Wow really cool that you got to do this! I had the tape it was one of my favorites! I don't really care for the Madonna today. These were her best times.
Steven Bray, her musician friend from their home town (in Michicgan?), who wound up also coming to make it in NYC and wound up writing about half of those early 80's hits. (Patrick Leonard writing the other half.).
I really liked how this song seemed to express a youthful and innocent love revealing a softness about Madonna that contrasted with her more brash public persona of the day.
This was Madonna back in 1986 and she just kept coming out with bigger and better songs over the years. True Blue was a huge it back in 1986 and everyone was into the Madonna craze and she was all over the place. Madonna worked hard to get where she is I have all of her videos on DVD and all of her albums also the one Celebration 40 Yrs of Music and Madonna is now 65 and still performing its insane. I got to see Madonna in 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour 1990 and I was 12. That was my birthday present to see Madonna live on stage. How cool was that. She puts on quite a show. Madonna was huge in the 80s 90s 2000s and even more so now. She had a heath scare and almost had to cancel her concert. Madonna will always been the queen of pop.
@Joe Johnson ..,,Sigh....i remember forever more when one had to stand drooling outside of a record shop window for the latest LP.. Those were the days.

Fun fact, her “True Blue” album still remains one of the best selling albums of all time. Three different songs from the album were number one hits on the US Billboard Hot 100: “Live to Tell”, “Papa Don’t Preach”, and “Open Your Heart”. My mom always told me just how ENORMOUS Madonna was in the 80’s :D And edit for June 2023, the True Blue album got a very positive response because Madonna was more gritty and her voice was stronger or more powerful than before. I personally think True Blue is her best album and her “height” if you will :)
@Konstantin Vercetti I think True Blue is her best album because it showcases the versatility of her voice better than ever! Compare her True Blue songs to her songs prior and you can see how there’s more power and grit in her voice in True Blue
Madonna was so freaking huge back in the 80's without social media and really cable TV. There were plenty of people who didn't have cable TV. All you had was the radio. How big would Madonna have been with all the social media today? She had global fame back in the day. Amazing.
Would be crazy, but I think social media would have sucked the magic right out of all of it! Just like phone zombies do at live performances these days. The hysteria the music artists of the 80s and 90s created was some incredible stuff, Maddona, NKOTB, MJ....we just don't seem to see this anymore. The trending music of today just sucks, and is all about poppin bottles and b!tch£s, plus the market is just over saturated due to the ease of posting wannabe music vids on social media. At least Maddona is still producing! :)
I wonder if she ever goes back and watches her old videos. What then hell has happened to her? You can't even recognize her. I'm 65 and I loved almost all of her early work especially this sweet song. It's just sad.
This song was a big hit but not nearly as some of the other songs released from her platinum + 'True Blue' album: 'Papa Don't Preach', 'Open Your Heart', 'La Isla Bonita' n 'Live to Tell' were all US top 10 hits n even bigger internationally. Madge is far from underrated!
Being a kid from the 2000s it's really something to watch music videos from the 80s and 90s. Those times really must have been something special for everyone to miss them so much.
Interesting comment and I never thought of it this way before. In the 60's and 70's everything was still being invented and created for the first time. Spaceships, airplanes, cars, etc. The 80's and 90's were enjoying the fruits of it all. It was the end and culmination of the industrial age and came to a cultural explosion transitioning to the information age. (Class of 1981) What kind of cultural explosion it was I cannot put into words, but Friday nights were high schoolers drinking beer watching MTV and it was all music videos. Madonna is Madonna. She is certainly not a scam. She has written, co-written, co-produced and recorded some of the greatest pop music of the last 30+ years. Her videos are the stuff of legend. Her live performances are awesome from the very first Virgin Tour through Blond Ambition, Girlie Show, Confessions up to the last MDNA tour. She is an underrated pop melodist and lyricist. People like Nile Rodgers, Rick Nowels, David Forster, Mirwais etc are all on record saying just this. But people hate to think some little white lady has that much creativity in her. I'm an ex-dancer and dance teacher and I bow down to Madonna as a technically brilliant dancer with that extra special something. Her vocals in the studio, particularly on her ballads, are gorgeous. Her voice is utterly unique and distinctive. The True Blue and Like a Prayer albums are classics in the pop pantheon and Ray of Light and Confessions on a Dance Floor rank among the greatest and most cohesive pop albums of the last 15 years. Obviously one can dislike Madonna and her music but she is the real deal and she achieved all this long before UA-cam and the internet. I saw her in December 1982 and January 1983 at Danceteria and she was the best thing there those nights. The only good thing there, actually!

It is fascinating the style with which he sings this song, you do not get tired of listening to it, the rhythm it has is part of a golden age that for those who live it excites us to hear it again.
Only Bowie got close to the total transformation Madonna pulled with her evolving pop career. Burnin' Up to Ray of Light she kept it interesting. Kept it moving. Only one Queen of Pop. You're watching her!
good melodies, bridges, textured and distinctive voices. World class composers and songwriters...it's not like it used to be as a whole. There's some great songs that come out but not the breadth and depth of 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s music.
Madonna’s first 3 albums were “Madonna” for me. The “Like a Virgin” era is untouchable. She created such a fashion trend. So many great songs! I wasn’t a huge fan of her music in the 90s and after, but she has maintained quite the presence.
@Michael Philips Which is precisely the point, she was a mature woman by the 90's and it reflected in her work. Madonna has evolved many times as an artist and thats why she has been relevant for such a long period of time. Lets be honest, as catchy as the songs are, Self Titled and Like a Virgin are pretty lyrically shallow albums. Live To Tell was Madonna's first lyrical masterpiece and this would be continued with Like a Prayer and into the 90's.
I was totally obsessed with her during "Like a virgin" era...True Blue was good as well but i wasn't impressed by the drastic change in her look...i was still a fan until 1990 but 1985 was the peak of my passion for her
True Blue still is the album that spent more weeks at #01 ever on the Eurocharts history. A total of 37 weeks at #01 - a record that has yet to be beaten. Not even Adele was able to even get close to break this record!
After the success with Like a Virgin album she came back with Live to tell + Papa don't preach + True Blue and La isla bonita... and then she went on with Like a Prayer.. That's why she's still the Queen of Pop!

Hey, better late than never!
That's the magic of Madonna. You can revisit her music and fall in love with her all over again
Good timessss!!!!!
I don't think there's anything in this world that is more innocent than that...💙😚
It is fascinating the style with which he sings this song, you do not get tired of listening to it, the rhythm it has is part of a golden age that for those who live it excites us to hear it again.
Its so great. Has a strong 60s vibe
u mean she not he lol
He?
its like a throwback to the 1950's and it suits for the 1986 of the times amazing times the 80's

2023 Madonna is timeless❤
Preciosa 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
fire is fire
Only Bowie got close to the total transformation Madonna pulled with her evolving pop career. Burnin' Up to Ray of Light she kept it interesting. Kept it moving. Only one Queen of Pop. You're watching her!
THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!! MADONNA IS THE BEST SELLING FEMALE ARTIST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!
😂
i think the best selling female was laura branigan
Wasnt it Mariah?
It's Madonna!!!!!
She is the Queen of the other 80's artists!!!!!
Madonna undeniably remains as one of the greatest figures in recent music history and the most influential music artist of all time.
Billboard Woman of the Year
The 1980s songs were always the best
good melodies, bridges, textured and distinctive voices. World class composers and songwriters...it's not like it used to be as a whole. There's some great songs that come out but not the breadth and depth of 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s music.
Queen Madonna
The legend.
The Queen of Pop.
She's hot ❤❤❤❤
👍♥️
She was. Now she is old b.itch blow for vote.

Yes you are truly the only blue star in the world's pop music galaxy that never loses its shine the brilliant Madonna
Madonna’s first 3 albums were “Madonna” for me. The “Like a Virgin” era is untouchable. She created such a fashion trend. So many great songs! I wasn’t a huge fan of her music in the 90s and after, but she has maintained quite the presence.
Same. Her 80's albums were the best
@@сиднипрескотт-щ3л Her 90's work is superior. Ray of Light is a better album than anything she did in the 80's except Like a Prayer.
I was totally obsessed with her during "Like a virgin" era...True Blue was good as well but i wasn't impressed by the drastic change in her look...i was still a fan until 1990 but 1985 was the peak of my passion for her
imagine not liking ray of light. can't relate
Still, in my book, one of THE top pop/rock female artists of all time.
She is!
The best the best ever
True Blue still is the album that spent more weeks at #01 ever on the Eurocharts history. A total of 37 weeks at #01 - a record that has yet to be beaten.
Not even Adele was able to even get close to break this record!
Gina Sousa Branco And that was before streaming (which holds things in the charts longer)
Adele couldn't even hold Alison Moyet's microphone let alone madonna's
Yes indeed... I still think its long over due for a re certification.
@@millsbomb007 preach that truth!
In Italy was a Madonna's fever in that time
❤❤❤
After the success with Like a Virgin album she came back with Live to tell + Papa don't preach + True Blue and La isla bonita... and then she went on with Like a Prayer.. That's why she's still the Queen of Pop!
When Papa don't preach came out I just turned off
THATS NICE 2HEAR ISNT IT MY BEAUTYFUL LADY MADONNA ... HAVE A CREAM BUN. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😅

Such a cute song...I heard this at my job and instantly loved it.
Its a super song .Remember this i had it on a cassette.
Man this song make me feel a lot of peace... This is music.
it’s a grower, if you get it you get it if you don’t you don’t
It's easy on the ears because it's melodious.
I’m seeing her in concert next Saturday. I’m so damn excited!! Woohoo 🎉
The '80s calling back to the early '60s: a mix of some of the two best eras in popular music.
Love those 80s songs that have a 50s, 60s feel like Oh Diane and Credit Card Baby
