Clean Rusty Chrome | Steel Wool | Cheap & Easy

The US Wheel Chrome Blades on my Supernatural project are fairly new (purchased in 2016) and already rusting. I've polished them twice since they were new. I guess it's a constant battle. I've heard this process works on bumpers too...as long as they have heavy chrome plating that isn't peeling or flaking! Thanks for this very informative video!

Yes sir, I tried it on my Camaro bumper. Works really well, especially for the cost of like $8 lol. Just labor intensive.

To prevent rusting, the wheels need to stay protected after. Water seeps into the chrome and creates rust, thus we need a way to prevent water from getting inside the chrome in the first place. I highly recommend polishing them one final time and then from then on keeping them protected with something very durable such as a ceramic wheel coating (make sure it can be used in chrome, I'm not very well versed in ceramics). Could you also use a wire wheel and drill for them? I don’t have all the elbow grease lol

You could probably use a drill if you keep it on low, I'd test an area first, make sure its a super fine 0000 grade steel wool wheel. Good luck!

Quick trick 1 . Have the same rims . I can only get them at summit racing for the c10 . It either says 5.5 out of stock or 5.5 127mm in stock . Confuses me

@@BigMike1999 Those are the wheels that came on my truck, they were 5x5. I did a 6 lug conversion since then to hold my GM Transport Wheels. Check on Ebay or Jegs for options too.

can I use grade 3 steel wool to get rust off?

I'm sure that Grade 3 would get rust off, but it would really scratch up your rims more than polish could fix. I use Grade 0000 to get rust off, it leaves really fine scratches that wheel polish should be able eliminate. Thank you for watching!

@@oddy3299 if your resanding and painting afterwards anyway then it should work for you. If you see the scratches through the black, try using some high build primer before you spray the black again. Best of luck!!
