I just came back from about 1000 miles of driving over 3 days with V12.3.6 on a mix of city, suburban, rural and interstate driving. I had two times that I needed to intervene for safety (both in confusing construction zones at night) and once when it was going to turn into the wrong driveway for the Supercharger station. FSD suggested that I change driver profile from Chill to Average which seemed to improve lane change behavior -- changing lanes when appropriate (mostly) and when requested by me. I used it at night and during the day both in areas that I was familiar with and in areas that were unfamiliar. At night, in unfamiliar areas, FSD helped me find where to go when I could not see it plainly with my vision. The oops with finding the Supercharger was critical for me (but not safety critical) since I was arriving with a very low state of charge - 10 miles remaining and I was a little nervous having never had the battery that low in the 3 years I have owned my Model Y.
It’s a good thing they finished that area on 285 you were riding on. I travel this same area just about every day! The back roads are still full of potholes!
FSD is a work in progress. Ultimately it will be safer than any human driver and will save countless lives. I can’t wait for that to happen! Complaining that FSD is is not perfect yet is like being mad at a two year old child for not being more grown up. Thanks for doing this testing and help to improve it.
Thank you for your feedback, it only helps us grow the channel. I’m sorry if I came across as complaining, was merely pointing out the fact that FSD did this intersection perfectly 100% of the time for two years. Not until v12 released months back did this issue start occurring. If other cars are around the car still aggressively drives through the intersection in the wrong lane. This is a major safety concern which needs to be addressed.
@@Full_Self_DrivenThat's a good point. Software like FSD should have consistency between versions. Users should not be reading patch/update notes for a feature built in to the car and that has worked for quite a while.
You are right on the last statement, the problem is not the Software program, the problem are the drivers being used to simulate the driving.... Overall i really like self driving cars, they will reduce road accidents in future..
Okay, so three things. First, thank you so much for this. I don't own a Tesla nor do I intend to buy one, but I consider it exceptionally important to know what other drivers on the road might do, especially Tesla drivers who put on full self driving mode and just go to sleep. Apparently Tesla patched that, but people in my area of Southern California have apparently figured out a work around as we see them sleeping all the time. Very scarry stuff. 2nd, that near miss at around the 15:00 minute mark was absolutely insane. 3rd, if you do have full self driving enabled, do you have any tips to allert a sleeping driver that they are approaching an area that they may want to be awake for. Honking horns tends to scare people...do you have any kind of better idea? Seriously, thank you for this series.
It'll be interesting to see if 12.4.2 that was released today fixes this issue. I usually run across click bait videos about FSD errors nowadays but this is legit and I hope you get more traction if the fix is not in by this version.
Definitely a known issue on the v12 branch. V11 had no issues with this route previously. Click bait is a real issue nowadays, didn’t want to overstep but needed to get this video seen. I’ll report back once I receive 12.4.2
Interesting to a non-tesla driver. Do you think now they are out of beta they will have to do a "long term" branch where they just iron out mapping and minor bug fixes, and another branch latest features ?
I'm not exactly sure. We've now been out of beta for almost 3 months and they've sent out over 5 new updates. Not much has changed since graduating from beta to supervised. Hoping to see some fixes for the known issues in my area but I've already been waiting quite some time.
What you see and what is shown on the screen is not what FSD sees. What is shown on the screen is close to what FSD sees in labeled 3D but projected in 2D. You have found a unique senario similar to Chuck Cook's unprotected left turn. First the approach to the "curb" is blind. The right turn lane turns into a cross walk in the intersection and ends in a wheelchair ramp eliminating the "curb" in the lane. The error here is primarily one of incorrect lane section and incorrect crosswalk design. It is not due to failure to recognize a curb since there is no curb in the lane of travel. PS: "Supervised FSD" is just another way to say beta "full self-driving".
But it is clearly marked and signed as a right-turn only lane. All three lanes have good, clear marking and signage. Also, I bet that Google Maps directs drivers to the appropriate lane on approach to the intersection without issue.
Impressive through the construction zone 👍 Love how in your version of "City Driving" you don't see much urban sprawl (compared with my perspective of urban sprawl from Hong Kong) 😊 That lane situation (3 separate lanes) is crazy! I assume when you are actually turning right, it does turn right? Have you turned right at that junction? 🧐 Thanks for doing these videos.
Majority of my drives are rather impressive. It's those few instances where I'm uncertain what will happen. I have not tried turning right at that intersection but will try it out next time I'm in the area. Thanks again for commenting and tuning into the channel!
@@Full_Self_Driven Here in Hong Kong, autonomous driving is illegal and autopilot is limited. However, I like to use AP but often other "city drivers" just cut me up!
@15:20 The display seems to prioritize the suspended traffic lights. At that moment it's not showing its prediction for the road ahead. In contrast @16:04 we see the traffic lights and the predicted route on the display.
You turn the blinker on to indicate that you're changing lanes or avoiding obstructions in your lane. The software did what every driver should, but often doesn't.
I just got mine ,and I know that you can make it change lanes by using the turn signal lever. First time on my condo, it was going to pass at normal speed over a speed bump ,I had to break .. Next time it learned that there was a speed bump and reduced. I'm not sure if it learns or simply had better vision the second time.
When I drive my partially self driving car, I find myself waiting for the car to make a mistake so I can correct it. A Tesla I drove, continued to slam the brakes on a winding freeway going through a mountain pass.
Interesting video. I have a 2022 M3 LR. I drive 136 miles 1 way to work door to door with mixed city, highway and rural. It drives no hands zero interventions. Even through military check points (Fort Barfoot) aka Ft Pickett. It does a great job but it’s not perfect… Virginia highway 40 is read as the speed limit when it’s actually 55. Also the vehicles do not know the default speed limits in the various states for unmarked roads. Non of the issues I have cause accidents more of a small annoyance.
Why did the camera move at the convenient time, n then go back after? Camera was fine where it was? Who moved it, n moved it back after? Answer those questions lol
The camera is mounted on the top glass and was untouched during the drive. (I’m the only person inside the car) GoPro stabilization settings love to pan side to side depending on the curvature in the shot. The road was curving and the camera was trying to pan with the curve. Unfortunately, I have not found how to turn this setting off on the camera.
Can you put a camera facing forward next to the sensing camera and upload a video. I’ve worked with this before. Have you ever gotten a windshield replacement or any type of repair to that mirror assembly or anything behind it. Also to note as someone who has never been in this intersection before there is poor visibility at least from the angle provided I can’t see the curb on either side Another note. It sees 3 directions of one way traffic instead of 2 lanes of oncoming and 1 lane for itself. Display switches the lines as you cross into the intersection. It’s very possible your vehicles camera needs a calibration or there is a defect in the glass on the windshield or defect in the mounting. This is an extremely sensitive sensor that simply removing and reinstalling it can mess with a calibration even if nothing was changed. Build quality of the vehicle combined with general misunderstanding of the system by service techs will lead to performance issues.
My car has never been in for service or had any windshield replacement. Maybe a simple recalibration of the cameras could fix it but it’s only ever been an issue at this intersection.
@@Full_Self_Driven so that’s a good thing! Okay then we can rule out a crappy job. Honestly I would start by trying to recalibrate it, again build quality on the vehicle historically hasn’t been great, but while they are doing the recal they can inspect for defects, it won’t rule out a glass defect those can be very hard to see with the naked eye. Always remember Tesla isn’t a veteran automaker, they are still brand new when you compare them to other manufacturers, eventually they will be as good as any other but you will have teething issues with them until they finally realize it. I went to one of the invite only order parties about a year before they launched the S, they only had the s and the roadster, to this day they haven’t launched it, people were putting money down 12 years ago…it is what it is, ev market would not be where it is without Tesla.
Is it mistaking the cross walks and intersection markings with a one way side road ? The blue line seems to go through the intersection markings as if that were a single prioritized lane/side road. To be fair the design of that specific intersection is atrocious and I can see how the AI could get confused.
hmm it seems some signs still arent picked up reliably, the signs on the ground that say right turn only. i can see why it would make the mistake however. though i hope these issues will go away soon enough.
Agreed, definitely hope it gets fixed soon as this is a fairly recent issue at this intersection. If you noticed they also have the arrows hanging above the lanes to indicate which one should be used.
I’d be willing to bet $100 that intersection isn’t properly labeled on google maps. I think a portion of the FSD stack receives road data like protected turns into the algorithm so sometimes it’s not in a proper position for a maneuver like this situation. For the last year though I’ve been just letting it handle these situations and while it’s not ideal, the care has never landed me in an accident despite these increasingly less frequent edge scenarios. It probably won’t be perfect until they design their own mapping system to replace google and regularly refresh road layout information from the fleet in almost real time to assist with changing road conditions and layouts that google will never be able to compete with.
An off topic comment : at 16:30 a person and a dog were walking on the sidewalk, but the Tesla screen showed two persons. Does it never recognize a smaller-than-a-person dog, with a cute doggy avatar? Or a small child for that matter?
I’ve definitely seen it display a person with a dog outlined on the display but I believe that was a bigger dog. I’m not sure if it recognizes smaller dogs.
I guess there is a reason why almost no self-driving cars are approved in Europe. I’ve been wondering why that is, but I guess this video sort of explains it. This looks incredibly unsafe and unpredictable…
The Apollo guidance computer had a whopping 36k of ROM and 2K of RAM. It got 27 astronauts to the Moon and back without killing anybody, and without any accidents. All of Elon's Dojo computers and Gigatech can't navigate fully mapped streets. Don't forget, Apollo 12 flew 240,000 miles to the Moon and its LEM landed within 300 ft of its target, the unmanned surveyor probe. Not bad for 36k of ROM and 2K of RAM using inertial navigation and star fixes. No road maps no GPS.
That's absolutely insane when you think about it with that context. Tesla's been at it for years, it feels the last few months the system has gotten gradually worse.
@@elektron2kim666 Listen up, Sparky. If the Apollo guidance computer screws up you either crash into the Moon or miss and go hurtling off into the solar system.
thats a hard no for me bub. no way i would ever trust that thing on a busy highway let alone a complex lane system in town. Hell, where I live, there are a lot of portions of the highway that are not painted. So how would it know where and when to change lanes?
The computer will never control the driving, it’s a driving assistant. You should never use cruise control because that allows the computer to be in control.
15:10 onwards. ; this actually isn't an issue in the european roads and ill tell you why. We usually have a square looking sign that summarise all the lanes ahead and its on the right sight of the road. Tesla could possibly be able to see the sign and switched lanes faster. I have seen your sings about lates they are above the road and a lil weird. If u stay in the right lane its easier for you to be overtaken safely and this isnt an issue. You should also have speed signs that reduce the speed near every turn.
in my region, we have many this types of lane whereby sunddenly 3 lane into 2, 3 land into 1 lane or 4 lane into 2 lane. It is pretty dangerous for auto-drive.
People using that kind of system need to flood the report system with the same issue many times before anything to do with it is fixed. Sadly it's only really when a major crash or death happens due to the software that kicks them in the ass to fix things. Personally I wish 100% of the companies working on self driving cars would go open source for there driving code and map data. Things would be so much farther along if that were the case.
I watched the almost crash scene a few times. The left lane marking on the street got some problems: one line leads up straight to the island delta. FSD may had been confused by it.
I’ve watched in slow motion over 10 times and I’m convinced the lane line markings are correct. The only line leading up to the island is the lines for the crosswalk.
It can’t read signs yet. This is known. Obviously this is an issue for human drivers too or they wouldn’t have the overhanging post signs labeling each lane 15:05 before you come around the corner to the blind intersection.
Geeing that you're in the Atlanta metro, I'm curious as to see how it drives in downtown Atlanta at night, especially when it rains and on roads with no markings such as the downtown connector or other degrading streets
It was unusable in downtown when I tested it last year but the system has progressed a long way since. I’ll test it on a future video when it rains one night
Full Self-driven cars shouldn't even be a thing. If an FSD car causes an accident, who will be held liable? People who don't know how to drive should not be allowed to drive or pilot a car.
That’s great! Unfortunately, majority of Tesla fleet is still on HW3. 12.5 still isn’t optimized for all the users on HW3. I drive it nearly everyday and it is still having trouble at this one intersection.
*So with a Tesla I got to fight traffic and NOW the car too?!?!* GTFO... I'll wait for the "Really, Full-Self Driving, This Time we are NOT KIDDING, IT CAN DRIVE ITSELF" version of Tesla cars.
Thank you for beta testing it so that we all can have safe autonomously driven vehicles in the future. You will look back one day and realize that you had a hand in saving millions of lives! 😀
@5:37 don’t be an idiot. It clearly knew the speed of the approaching vehicle and realized getting in the lane would force that driver to apply breaks and being the fast lane would have been a d move. Wake up
If it clearly knew the speed then why did FSD initiate a lane change, get halfway over, then swerve back over into its initial path? The car should’ve stayed right where it was if it had any idea how fast the driver was going. You act like I told it to get over into the fast lane, when in reality the car was making the decisions.
i dont get self driving anyways, just get an uber if you dont want to drive? msot vehicles have really good lane assist nowdays to allow you to look away for a minute.

Thank you very much for taking the time to comment!
thanks for sharing it!
No problem, thank you for tuning into the channel!
Impressive through the construction zone 👍
Love how in your version of "City Driving" you don't see much urban sprawl (compared with my perspective of urban sprawl from Hong Kong) 😊
That lane situation (3 separate lanes) is crazy! I assume when you are actually turning right, it does turn right? Have you turned right at that junction? 🧐
Thanks for doing these videos.
Great video, thanks for sharing your trips
@15:20 The display seems to prioritize the suspended traffic lights. At that moment it's not showing its prediction for the road ahead. In contrast @16:04 we see the traffic lights and the predicted route on the display.
You turn the blinker on to indicate that you're changing lanes or avoiding obstructions in your lane. The software did what every driver should, but often doesn't.
Did you try that turn in the latest version yet? That's a really bad mistake.
Even in the most benevolent and well-intended implementation of FSD, one bad software push would crash more than just servers
My 2023 Nissan Altima has steering assist but I never would never trust a car to drive me without my hands on the wheel😊 I don’t care how good it is😊
Any updates to this video?
Insane semi truck driver around @7:30 Passing everyone doing 70 in a 55 in the fast lane...
Around Georgia they speed because they don't have to fight any real elevation. Had one driving 85 in front of me the other day, it's absolutely nuts!
Not a super big fan of tesla but the self driving is dope. I hope to see some form on all vehicles in the next 5-10 years
Why did the camera move at the convenient time, n then go back after?
Camera was fine where it was? Who moved it, n moved it back after?
Answer those questions lol
The camera is mounted on the top glass and was untouched during the drive. (I’m the only person inside the car) GoPro stabilization settings love to pan side to side depending on the curvature in the shot. The road was curving and the camera was trying to pan with the curve. Unfortunately, I have not found how to turn this setting off on the camera.
How do you get this on your phone 😳😳😳
What version is this?
v12.3.6
Video uploaded in July 2024 but description says the version is from September 2024 😊
Video uploaded July 2024. Release date on this version May 31, 2024

Can you put a camera facing forward next to the sensing camera and upload a video. I’ve worked with this before. Have you ever gotten a windshield replacement or any type of repair to that mirror assembly or anything behind it.
Also to note as someone who has never been in this intersection before there is poor visibility at least from the angle provided I can’t see the curb on either side
Another note.
Trusting self-driving through Spaghetti Junction and 285 is nerve wracking 😅
You said it!
Is it mistaking the cross walks and intersection markings with a one way side road ? The blue line seems to go through the intersection markings as if that were a single prioritized lane/side road. To be fair the design of that specific intersection is atrocious and I can see how the AI could get confused.
recognize those damn roads anywhere
What is the phone app?
It just needs more data. Infrastructure changes do happen. Environment misinterpretations
Insane. Tesla supervised driving isn't ready
This week I've encountered way too many close calls with this version.
hmm it seems some signs still arent picked up reliably, the signs on the ground that say right turn only. i can see why it would make the mistake however. though i hope these issues will go away soon enough.
Agreed, definitely hope it gets fixed soon as this is a fairly recent issue at this intersection. If you noticed they also have the arrows hanging above the lanes to indicate which one should be used.
Somewhere in India: "What!? Am I driving wrong NOW!?"🤣
little bit straight ahead on the right, Brazilian cuisine, I’ll have meeting you 😅
Can't believe a company can make a car that's actually killed people to get away with saying it was the person and not the software
What app for the phone and what stand?
yep, imma stick to self driving and stay aware
I like the fact that it stuck to the speed limit
Living in Australia where we drive on the other side, I’d totally need a Tesla to help me out 😂
I guess there is a reason why almost no self-driving cars are approved in Europe.
You have minutes, hours or days in space to make a turn.
Apollo war Hollywood ;)
@@MarcusWilke1978 What the Hell does that mean?
@@elektron2kim666 Listen up, Sparky. If the Apollo guidance computer screws up you either crash into the Moon or miss and go hurtling off into the solar system.
thats a hard no for me bub. no way i would ever trust that thing on a busy highway let alone a complex lane system in town. Hell, where I live, there are a lot of portions of the highway that are not painted. So how would it know where and when to change lanes?
Yeah my 2024 Toyota misses every turn every time. You’d think Toyota would fix the problem by now.
I think they removed the radars on the newer teslas isn't?
No radar, only camera’s on the current fleet of Tesla’s. The older models have radar but Tesla has disabled it for FSD.
haha, I'm never giving a computer control over my driving.
The computer will never control the driving, it’s a driving assistant. You should never use cruise control because that allows the computer to be in control.
@@Full_Self_Driven I don't
15:10 onwards. ; this actually isn't an issue in the european roads and ill tell you why. We usually have a square looking sign that summarise all the lanes ahead and its on the right sight of the road. Tesla could possibly be able to see the sign and switched lanes faster. I have seen your sings about lates they are above the road and a lil weird. If u stay in the right lane its easier for you to be overtaken safely and this isnt an issue. You should also have speed signs that reduce the speed near every turn.
Why is there so much road noise? Is it a concrete road?
I've also had it change lanes withoutt signaling
That is a known issue, my biggest concern right now is when it has no confidence in its lane change selection.
😂 That ‘steering wheel’ is a no-go already.
It's incredibly impractical.
If I were Tesla software engineers, I'd be very interested in this.
in my region, we have many this types of lane whereby sunddenly 3 lane into 2, 3 land into 1 lane or 4 lane into 2 lane.
Did you almost hit a bird at 17:30?
I had to go back and watch again but you’re right. It did nearly clip that bird!
1:21 devil's advocate, but you DID make it go over a double yellow...
Wo ist der Crash??
2:31 " I don't need any holes" are you sure about that?
Your time stamp needs to be edited. I have no idea what you’re referring to…
Holes are goals! 🕳️
Your vocal fry is ridiculous and annoying to listen to.
turning left on double yellow lines?
Just to think that full self-driving used to be a bunch of if-then statements. Lol
Yeah, there’s no way I could trust it.
I like Toyota’s Safety Sense features on their vehicles. I don’t trust a computer to drive full time only part time.
Full Self-driven cars shouldn't even be a thing. If an FSD car causes an accident, who will be held liable? People who don't know how to drive should not be allowed to drive or pilot a car.
The insurance company. Like always.
Dude rolls up right in Marietta, Georgia!
Yessir, we’re based in Atlanta, Georgia!
good job
Can you imagine one in the UK ? That is an accident waiting to happen
Hey I drove the same way a week ago with 12.5.1.3 and works fine!
That’s great! Unfortunately, majority of Tesla fleet is still on HW3. 12.5 still isn’t optimized for all the users on HW3. I drive it nearly everyday and it is still having trouble at this one intersection.
@@Full_Self_Driven if you ever get a fully fledged 12.5.x would really like to see another video
@@Full_Self_Driven Check again, It should be released now for HW3
Is that a 3 with a yoke
Should not be used in public honestly.
Agreed. Only here to demonstrate the system as it appears today. Tanks for taking the time to comment.
You really think any trashball Tesla owner doesn't drive like this. Well I should say let their trash car drive itself like this...
*So with a Tesla I got to fight traffic and NOW the car too?!?!*
GTFO...
I'll wait for the "Really, Full-Self Driving, This Time we are NOT KIDDING, IT CAN DRIVE ITSELF"
version of Tesla cars.
Think about this say somthing the government doesn't like, and the Tesla "suddenly had an unknown malfunction.."
Thank you for beta testing it so that we all can have safe autonomously driven vehicles in the future.
You will look back one day and realize that you had a hand in saving millions of lives! 😀
Maybe it's having "wait" commands or "for" loops in the main code loop.
It’s quite possible
@5:37 don’t be an idiot. It clearly knew the speed of the approaching vehicle and realized getting in the lane would force that driver to apply breaks and being the fast lane would have been a d move. Wake up
If it clearly knew the speed then why did FSD initiate a lane change, get halfway over, then swerve back over into its initial path? The car should’ve stayed right where it was if it had any idea how fast the driver was going. You act like I told it to get over into the fast lane, when in reality the car was making the decisions.
woah
It’s definitely a sight to see!
not the phone as tachometer I do that for my Sim racing. an expensive ass car should have one built in
i dont get self driving anyways, just get an uber if you dont want to drive? msot vehicles have really good lane assist nowdays to allow you to look away for a minute.
It’s mainly just to relieve stress and fatigue on road trips. Also is nice to be able to relax when I have an hour commute in bumper to bumper traffic.
Why is this allowed? It should be illegal and will cost lives.
How can they wide release this to everyone with this kind of shit 🤦🏼♀️
Seemed to do so well at first glance. Then I realized later in the video what you meant 😂
This update has had major problems. I’m hoping 12.4.2 fixes a lot of these know issues
It is soooo loud inside the cabin at highway speeds!
All those cameras that thing has and it can’t see the arrows or lines? 😂
15:04 the far right lane - Elon approved 😅
It's lane discipline is as bad as the humans in that clip.
No wonder you need such wide roads.
This is why you don’t buy moving microwave
A found it cheap at a yard sale. It gets the job done!
