Hi Alex, your explanation of shallowing the club that you did here is amazing. I tried it just now in my office and I have to say I a can't wait to get out on the course and try it! Could please include an explanation using a mid iron possibly? Like a 7, 8 or even 9 iron, I am either having a good driver day or a good iron day if that makes sense. Thanks for the videos and and the constant content I appreciate it.

Leslie King was teaching this technique sixty years ago. I think there was a book or booklet detailing his teaching method called " The end to trial and error golf". This may have something to do with how old time golfers had to swing the club back in the day of hickory shafts that were very flexible. A too aggressive body turn would make the club head uncontrollable. Interesting to see that modern golfers are coming back to some of the old time fundamentals. Thanks.

Great video. I have used both methods and here is my experience:
I am currently using the more "complicated" method of dumping the clubhead with the wrists and turning hard. I went to this method about a year ago because under pressure my transition would get fast and I felt it better insured a shallow path. While my strikes have improved some my directional dispersion is much worst. Its gets even worst when I try to take something off a club. I hate that I often miss directionally on short irons. I plan to go back to the method you describe and I like the shoulder/pocket keys to get my feel back. A couple of things that I found important when I used this method in the past 1) a flat to bowing wrist at the top (obviously depending on your grip) 2) keeping your right elbow pointed down at the top (presetting at address - pointing at your stomach). A training aid like "The Hanger" might be useful with this shallowing approach to get the right wrist angles. Thanks!!!

Another good video and exactly what I am working on. You spoke too soon re the weather it is absolutely pouring down in Lancashire - over 10mm overnight. No golf today! What I would like you to cover is the punch shot for approach irons to green when wind against. I find that I end up following through too much as the momentum carries me through to a full finish and if I try and stop early I seem to chunk it. Please could you advise - thank you! Keep up the good work and see you tomorrow!

Same thought also promotes good side bend! I have always thought about keeping back to target longer, and then adding side bend as two different swing thoughts. Keeping left shoulder behind ball thought has great benefits for me on all my full swing clubs. My favorite kind of tip is a simple one that replaces more than multiple swing thoughts. Many thanks.

LOL. I love that bad shallowing demo in the beginning, reminds me vaguely of a really bad disco move, or else some variant to Right Said Fred (I'm too sexy for my swing). Thumbs up. Once saw a short video where Ernie Els described the same feel... just the feel of dropping the club from P4 first and nothing else.

Back to target and high hands seems to be a theme I need to work on for driver and irons…when I turn like this at home it feels natural and powerful. I need to work on this on the range to build it into my unconscious memory for the course and have the confidence..I’m 6.7 handicap and already hit the ball pretty well but this feels like a piece of the jigsaw that is missing. Thanks as ever Alex for simple teaching.

Hi Alex, does anything need to change if you can't achieve a full turn on the back swing? I'm a 78yo who's played for some years but lately find my shoulder turn is restricted to perhaps 70 - 80° which seems to cause an out to in swing and at best a fade but sometimes a slice.
I love your simple approach to the mechanics but my limitations are frustrating the life out of me.

    • @AlexElliottGolf
      @AlexElliottGolf  Місяць тому

I wouldn’t say so, i like to flare the left leg to help with rotation, so this may help if you aren’t able to achieve a full backswing, nevertheless to be playing golf at 78 is incredible, give yourself some credit and don’t put too much pressure on yourself Bob 🙌🏼 you are doing a great job

Great video, very easy to understand and try to replicate..... I definitely turn before I drop and I don't feel like I'm rotating enough in my backswing.... I'm 6'5" so my flexibility isn't the greatest which causes me to lose a lot of power... If I picture a baseball field I feel like my back is turned to about 3rd base and it also feels as if I regrip the club (glove hand) in my backswing where the butt of the club slides more into the palm about a quarter of an inch.... With my swing in particular, the longer my backswing, the more my wrists start to unhinge which may have to do with poor back rotation.

I don't agree. You turn first and that brings the arms down. I saw another video you did that said start with the knees. You said that's what the pros do.

Looks horrific. The little finger side of the left hand control the club in the takeaway; and, the index finger side of the hand controls the club in the start of the downswing

I have to make a point. If the baseball swing was broken down the way the golf swing is then it would have been so difficult to coach little league players, high school and legion. I've done it for 20 years. And we taught them grip, stance, load up, how to keep the bat in the zone and weight shift. All basic. You practice and you just keep getting better. I have learned that the golf swing is simple as well. Grip, stance, slot, wrist hinge and weight shift. Most importantly the shoulders. Especially the right shoulder down not around. If you show pro golfers from behind it's pretty easy to see what they're doing and you can figure it out. I did. But you guys I guess it's nice you give your time but I think you not specifically but all the teachers on here do more damage than good by putting so much information out there. Everyday you see the best secret, What nobody tells you, My game became great when I learned this. People are thinking instead of playing. Certain positions are a by product of what you do in the swing. You guys know it's very simple but I guess you have to do your thing. There are just a few who keep it that way. Even when the older pros explain the swing they keep much more simple than you guys do.

I understand what you’re saying. I’m a newbie who is trying to learn but haven’t even bought my golf set yet. (I have played a few times with loaned clubs) I find both helpful. I think we need the simple pointers as well as the super technical. Another big part of it is this is UA-cam. They have to create content to grow their channel.

Sometimes you golf teachers vloggers should go back and check your lessons. You say everything and the exact opposite following the mood of the moment. Shallowing is a hype since a while and every golf vlogger has plenty of contradicting recipes. At the end it’s only about views, yours, and not about saying something smart. Result: confusing people and killing their game. If you really will halp others then give a structure to your teaching method and avoid following the general trend for the sake of credibility.

As much as I appreciate your lessons mate, just shallowing the club isn't going to cut anyone's handicap in half. Your a great teacher but your click bait titles and false claims have cost you a subscriber. Keep up the great lessons though

@@breakthrough8628 I'm not looking for further lessons mate, just pointing out that your last 2 lesson titles are purposley misleading in an effort to get people to click on your video. I think your a good enough teacher that you don't need to lie in your titles. You know that correctly shallowing the club will not cut anyone's handicap in half but with plenty of practice it will help their game...that should be your claim because that's enough. Continued success.
