This technique actually WORKS! I've used it twice on a indoor simulator and I immediately started hitting from the inside. I've tried about 5 million tips for hitting the driver on You Tube and none of them really helped, but this did! You might not hit the ball as far (especially at first) but your going to love your new shot grouping. Great tip Alex!!
I think this tip is more important for those of us with longer torsos and shorter legs. I had a great swing for years as a kid and teen with a narrow stance. Dad raised/taught me watching Jack Nicolas and his "one swing" technique videos. As I grew older, got super busy with life and wasn't playing much. 15-20 years later, I try to pick the game up again and I didn't feel natural anymore. My body has changed with age. A swing coach kept trying to get me to widen my stance and it never felt right or worked out for me. I went back to those old Jack Nicolas videos, switched back to a narrow stance and got my game back. Sure, I may not hit 300 yards like those wide stance big hitters do, but I'm more consistent. As long as you get to the green in two or three shots, what does all that driving distance really do anyway? I'd rather be consistent and measurable in my shots.
This has proven to be a great tip! I have followed this advice for a couple of months now and have been achieving much straighter drives, iron shots, wedge shots - you name it. Still working on getting the distance up, but the change in being able to hit the ball straight virtually every time has been a game changer for me. Thanks for a great tip, Alex!
Thanks for that tip. Tried it at the driving range and I was shocked how well it work. Had a round yesterday started driving all over the place. Used the drill on the last nine holes and I was going straight and long. You are awesome. If you ever in NZ I owe you a beer or two.
That overhead view of your feet? That was wonderful. I kept trying to watch your feet to see exactly how they were and then when you did the overhead… Perfect.
Another great video Alex. This is a great lesson for me as my stance is wider than it should be which in turn is reducing my swing speed because I am off balance.
Alex, I was taught since being a senior to open my stance with the left foot flared as you present but with the right foot set back to allow more turn. I’ll give this a go and see if it helps to be more consistent. Interesting video as usual. I tend to hit some bad slices at times when a heel shot is made. So I tend to make sure I can see the club head in front of me to correct crossing over causing a slice. Something I tend to think about is path of the swing thru the ball. I’d rather swing smooth and not have that thought. I hope this helps. I’ll inform later as I actually think I will play today since the weather will cooperate.
Alex, Tried your method today. I've been really struggling getting off the tee. I try different pre-shot routines when I get frustrated and it just sends me down the rabbit hole farther. I did a driving range session today and used your instruction. I tried phase one with a few balls and made contact. Ball's are pricey so moved on to phase two and hit them about 100 yards. Then the rest of the session went to phase three, my main thought was keep ankles inside shoulders. The last 10 or 12 drives were solid, great ball flight and a slight draw. I'm playing in a couple of days and will definitely keep stance narrow. Thanks for the great lesson. I've tried them all and was very happy with today's results. You make golf fun.
Thanks! I will try this. I tried widening my stance that did not work, went back to a more normal stance was better but not great. Great tips! Thank You.
Alex is a very good teacher. You can tell he wants everyone to improve. HIs heart and sole is in to teaching golf. Great drill Alex. The narrow stance has less strain on my back and may help others.
I’ve tried this technique tonight at the driving range. The best, and simplest drill I’ve ever been given. I hit 40 250+yd drives as straight and easy as I ever have. Total gamechanger for me. Thank you
Just a further comment on this tip, which I have been using for a few months now. Yesterday, my fairways hit was 93%. You could say I'm pretty happy with this technique!
This instruction totally improved my driver! I keep my feet only 2 clubheads apart and I swing in balance, in sequence and hit much more consistently in the fairway. No more big wide stance.
Y drill worked out well when I was able to maintain the position and I wasn't pushing the ball as much when I moved my back foot more parallel. Thank you again mate! I will keep up the practice 😊
Good tip. I used to warm up with my feet together to get balanced. Never thought of taking it to the course with such a narrow stance. Similarly used to put my right foot behind me so I was almost at right angles to the ball to groove an in to out swing and also improve rhythm, as you can't over swing or you fall over
Thanks! I will be trying this tomorrow along with the Y drill. I would set my right foot back too in addition to the left foot flare. I think I baked this into my setup trying to correct my outside in to inside out swing path. Perhaps this is why I push the ball to the right
Love it, this is perfect. A wide stance locks your hips and the golf swing becomes upper body dependent. The result? Early extension. How many times have you seen an elite golfer at the end of their through swing with there knees touching? A lot!
Worked first time I tried it on the course, very easy on your back, no strain. Creates a very fluid motion. Lost no distance from my normal setup, in fact I gained distance and found the fairway more often. Probably the best recomendation I have come across, a real game changer. Thank you Alex.
I'd seen previous advice on other channels to go with wide feet to generate power nd always struggled. Looking forward to trying this at the range tomorrow! Ta.
I just saw this video on Tik Tok and made this adjustment. I've always struggled with a slice. Even though it was a little uncomfortable at first, my drives straightened out immediately. My distance got better too. Great tip! Thank you!
Saved this video so I can watch it again, your videos are so helpful and appreciated. 3 more months to wait before our winter season is gone and another month before our courses are ready to open.
Ok, can't wait for warmer weather and hit the range and try this technique, I tend to start out alright, then go what the heck in the middle and finish ok. I loose it and struggle to get back on track. I'm going to have to try this and see how it works, thanks.
I haven't golfed in years. But my dad and I started going to the range. Going to try these tips next time we go. I need to learn not to smash as hard as I can. I would rather a less power but better hit. Also have to learn to work on my slice. Good thing I don't have any bad habits as I don't golf often yet I'm just all over the place.
I've gotten about 3 or 4 driver tips from this page that has completely changed my game. I went from the 90s all last summer to breaking 80 seven times and even a 4 over 74 once. My friends hate you because the rounds have been on them this last month thanks lol
Wow.. just wow... I've been fighting the dreaded "S" word over the past couple of weeks. I watched this video then immediately went out and tried it. Thanks for making your content so easy to understand and implement.
This makes very good sense. That very wide stance has not felt right, or worked for me very well either. This was a very good lesson in maintaining "balance" in your set-up to the ball, golf swing. A very good problem solving tip in my view. Well done.
It's been a good 20-25 years since I last took a lesson from a PGA club professional, however back then we were taught to have no more than a shoulders wide stance and point the left toe out. At age 45 I still follow this practice, whether it's hitting a driver/fairway Wood or an iron. For me, I want to see the ball in play, in the fairway, doesn't necessarily need to be bombed 300+ yards every time. A shot in play and in the fairway in most cases is going to win the hole and result in lower scores vs shots hit from the deep rough, out of bounds and or unplayable/lost.
Another AE drill I'll need to try. I'm so guilty of the big ol' wide driver stance to bomb a drive. Cue the long high weak slice into the woods. There isn't a link to the giveaway in this video?
Not having a dig but against whole of tinternet, how you drop shoulder to hit up ect with such narrow stance, and Alex you could hit ropes on one leg, that said will give a try at range😊
Our practice ground still not open and only 14 holes open on course with temporary greens. Will be going to driving range this afternoon to try and “groove” the movements you gave me. Fingers crossed I “nail it”
Thanks -- I've always wondered about that (width of stance). Am I correct in assuming it applies to all of the clubs in the bag as well (narrowing as you go down the list)?
WOW! That just seems so so easy. Question for you, would you do this with fairway woods and hybrids too? I get a lot of heel strikes with these clubs and even if I get a centre strike my launch is nearly always too low and spins too high. TIA, great videos keep them coming Alex 👏👏👏
Good drill, I’m going to go try it right now. I want to see if I’ve been to wide in my stance. I would love to pick up the driver, wood, & hybrid, I’m in the market right now. Using 18 year old cobra fairway woods. But I didn’t see the link.😢
Great lesson once again Alex, will definitely try this a bit once my ankle is healed up. I have a tendency to stand to wide, with this trick of yours, I will be able to correct that. Cheers mate
I'm so over the top with my driver that it's crazy.. about 10-14 degrees from the outside in, so I will DEFINITELY try that exercise.. thanks for a good video
Been having trouble with the driver again starting out this spring. I'll try this tomorrow during league and see what comes of it. Thanks for the tip. Update 1: So yesterday I first commented, I went to the range after work. I can slice pretty good so I put this into action and after about the 5-6 hit... I was laughing because I couldn't believe how well it worked. Doing this doesn't quite feel right or relaxing so it'll take some getting use to but I'm definitely sticking to this for league tonight and see what happens.
i had a pretty bad issue for a while where my stance was a hair too wide. what would also happen is because since my hips have less rotational ability, i found that my back foot would release to early so i could compensate with that limited mobility. big problem because now you cant your back foot to drive into the ground and use the ground for your swing! narrowing up the stance helps you also utilize the ground and lower body in combination with your upper body instead of against!
*Wow!! I enjoyed using this drill on myself! This is the time of year you can RESET your game and get your driver firing*
This is how you said to reset your swing. Good stuff.
The old Bobby Jones style. It really works! Man had it figured out 100 years ago 💪 Great Vid, Alex!
My score is now 75/76
/77 stay now on this score thanks for the tips
Very good drill, thanks

!!Dead right!! been teaching 45 years. I do this with every student. Excellent!
Thanks for this one, Alex. I will be using this drill for a tournament on Thursday. Your teaching is one of the best on UA-cam.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for this, I am still new to golf and just introduced a friend to golf so this will be quite helpful!
Alex, you are one of the most consistent ball strikers on UA-cam. Your lessons are very effective and easy to understand. Keep up the great work
This works. Alex showed this in an earlier video. I started using it and what a difference it made!
Thanks for that tip. Tried it at the driving range and I was shocked how well it work. Had a round yesterday started driving all over the place. Used the drill on the last nine holes and I was going straight and long.
You are awesome.
If you ever in NZ I owe you a beer or two.
Brilliant, haha i will take you up on that! 🙌🏼
Phenomenal content Alex. I absolutely struggle with my driver. I cannot wait to try this at the range. Keep up the great work and thank you!!!
Happy to help!
I am 79 years young. Your instructions have helped me lower my scores and regain my tempo.
Thank You. Bud
That's great! thank you
That overhead view of your feet? That was wonderful. I kept trying to watch your feet to see exactly how they were and then when you did the overhead… Perfect.
Great video going try this next time I'm out on the course Hooe it works on my 3 & 5 woods.
I started doing this last year. The difference in my driving was amazing.
Can't wait to get out there and try this one!
Another great video Alex. This is a great lesson for me as my stance is wider than it should be which in turn is reducing my swing speed because I am off balance.
Fantastic!! Would you say the same guidelines, flared left foot and stance only as wide as ankles to armpits, would also work on iron shots!??
A narrower stance with a flared left foot is excellent advise Alex, especially for senior golfers, of which I am one! Well Done Alex!!!
Thanks 👍
Alex, I was taught since being a senior to open my stance with the left foot flared as you present but with the right foot set back to allow more turn. Absolutely love this tip! Can't wait to try this! Crazy how great you hit those 4 drives!
Been struggling with my driver (only started playing in Sept) and I cannot wait to try this at the range. Thank you Alex
How has it worked for you?
Love it… this technique helps me to slow down so I don’t over swing
Alex, Tried your method today. I've been really struggling getting off the tee. I try different pre-shot routines when I get frustrated and it just sends me down the rabbit hole farther. In my seventies and these tips are so easy steps to try and they work. Thank you, Alex.,
Alex is a very good teacher. You can tell he wants everyone to improve. HIs heart and sole is in to teaching
golf. Great drill Alex. The narrow stance has less strain on my back and may help others.
Thanks so much 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thanks for another sensible, easy drill. I’ve struggled with my driver because I get stuck on my back foot. Just started and it’s making me nuts!
Been struggling so much with the Driver the past couple years .
This looks like an excellent drill to hopefully get me some positive results.
Thanks
Glad to help

Just finished watching your video and did this in my backyard. My shot improved instantly. Thank you all the way from Texas
Love this thank you for letting me know
Amazing video ..I will be trying this drill at the range tomorrow..fingers crossed..thank you

So kind thank you!!
Saved this video so I can watch it again, your videos are so helpful and appreciated. 3 more months to wait before our winter season is gone and another month before our courses are ready to open.
Appreciate it!!
Wow Alex great video I m going to try it now in the garage
I remember you gave this tip last year, and it worked great for resetting my swing.
Ok, can't wait for warmer weather and hit the range and try this technique, I tend to start out alright, then go what the heck in the middle and finish ok. I loose it and struggle to get back on track. I'm going to have to try this and see how it works, thanks.
Good stuff!! My driving gets erratic at times, and this will help straighten it out. Bonus is being in the fairway 👍

It does!
Wow.. just wow... I've been fighting the dreaded "S" word over the past couple of weeks. I watched this video then immediately went out and tried it. Thanks for making your content so easy to understand and implement.
thank you Alex I will give this a go soon , need some warm .
Just In time Alex! I was striking my srixon zx5mkii driver pretty good then 💩. I need a reset and I think this will do the trick thanks a million!
great vidio, I have used this and have improved my accuracy and distance. Thanks, also how do I get registered for the chance to win those clubs?
This makes very good sense. That very wide stance has not felt right, or worked for me very well either. This was a very good lesson in maintaining "balance" in your set-up to the ball, golf swing. A very good problem solving tip in my view. Well done.
Another great video from you that I saved and will watch many times over the winter to help improve my game, thank you
Been coming over the top with wide stance - gonna try this tomorrow - thanks Alex!
As I aged, I have narrowed my stance to allow more follow-thru. This drill is excellent and will bring to my game. Thank you
Wow I like your narrow stance in your driving setup , Love it, makes lots of sense!!
Glad you like it!
Will give this a go as I have trouble following thro due to injury and bad habits. Might be enough to get me to single figures this year.
Hi Alex. Great video. Thank you very much. Where's the link to the video for the clubs?
Here is the link ! ua-cam.com/video/nX0wBT-cixg/v-deo.htmlsi=YzyuVt71zM67NeJI
I'll give it a go tomorrow thanks
Glad I found your videos. You are a great teacher!

Tried this drill yesterday and really liked it. Helped my driver a great deal. Do I do the same thing for my fairway woods and long irons?
I don’t see the harm in trying for sure
A little gem Alex , thanks
Balance has always been the key hasn't it
Another AE drill I'll need to try.
Haha, thank you! Hope it helps
Hi Alex, brilliant, you've given me top advice on your channel. Keep them coming mate👍
Glad to help
2004, LPGA pro Lisa Horst was teaching this. Makes the turn so easy.
Thanks Alex for another good video. But woukd you keep the same stance width for all clubs?
I wouldn’t for all of them no
Our practice ground still not open and only 14 holes open on course with temporary greens. Will be going to driving range this afternoon to try and “groove” the movements you gave me. Fingers crossed I “nail it”
Thanks for the drill Nice to know how to reset on the course
Thanks -- I've always wondered about that (width of stance). Am I correct in assuming it applies to all of the clubs in the bag as well (narrowing as you go down the list)?
Yeah that’s right
Alex, I love this setup. Will the narrower stance affect my low point and ascending blow on the ball with driver? Thanks!!!
Yeah it will, i hope!
@@AlexElliottGolf I'm afraid my sternum won't be behind the ball and I will start to hit down on the ball.
i'm not too sure it depends on the golfer... it shouldnt though
Wow this is the best explanation for my problem :) thanks
Thanks for this very informative video. Practice, practice, practice !
WOW! That just seems so so easy.
Question for you, would you do this with fairway woods and hybrids too? I get a lot of heel strikes with these clubs and even if I get a centre strike my launch is nearly always too low and spins too high. TIA, great videos keep them coming Alex 👏👏👏
You certainly could do, it depends on a mother few factors whether it will work but i would give it a whirl !
Alex, is this something you would recommend for all clubs in the bag? Thanks🇨🇦
Worth trying !
Good drill, I’m going to go try it right now. I want to see if I’ve been to wide in my stance.
I would love to pick up the driver, wood, & hybrid, I’m in the market right now. Using 18 year old cobra fairway woods. But I didn’t see the link.😢
m.ua-cam.com/video/nX0wBT-cixg/v-deo.html - link for giveaway !
Great lesson once again Alex, will definitely try this a bit once my ankle is healed up. I have a tendency to stand to wide, with this trick of yours, I will be able to correct that. Cheers mate
Go for it!
Brand new subscriber here. Thanks for the great instruction! I will take this the the range this weekend
Thanks for the sub!
Great video as always stiff senior golfer I’ll try this tomorrow but it’s winter golf so it never goes far 😢
Wow thanks man this is so so so good
Question: do you NOT recommend this move for irons? Or a hybrid?
Will take this to the simulator tomorrow. Thanks Alex. ⛳️ 😃
I'm going to give this a try. thx.
Cannot wait for your review of the darkspeed cobra.. Have a feeling this will blow them all away this year...
🔥🔥🔥 cannot wait to try this tip out..
I’ll be taking this to the range this week!
wow this is some crazy technique and this totally works! I can't believe no one else has done this drill online!
Danny Maude does this also in one of his many videos.
Thank you. Can’t wait to try it. 🎉
Thank you for the tip I will true it.
Just having a hell of a time with my driver. Will give this a go tomorrow.
Great drill! How does this transfer to fairway clubs?
Bill
Great question bill, i will try and cover this in another video for you
i had a pretty bad issue for a while where my stance was a hair too wide. what would also happen is because since my hips have less rotational ability, i found that my back foot would release to early so i could compensate with that limited mobility. big problem because now you cant your back foot to drive into the ground and use the ground for your swing! narrowing up the stance helps you also utilize the ground and lower body in combination with your upper body instead of against!
So well explained. Thanks Alex.
