*The supposed "fan" was pissed because Pantera had split up. Darrell and his brother (Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul) moved on to form another band called 'DamagePlan'. They were playing in a small club as opposed to a giant arena so the security wasn't quite the same. Three other ppl were also killed that night by this guy. Vinnie Paul went on to be the drummer of a band called Heallyeah for 12 years. He passed away from heart problems in 2018. The Abbott brothers are dearly missed!! Rest in power!* 🤘♥🤘
That's what the media said about Nathan Gale being distraught over the break up of Pantera. The police searched his place afterwards and found Nathan Gale had stacks of notebooks claiming Pantera were stealing his ideas and concepts so to speak. He didn't call out Dimebag specifically, just "Pantera" in general. If Anselmo was playing that night with one of his bands, Gale would have gone after him. He was an ex-marine with paranoid schizophrenia. Either way the worst moment in all of rock and metal.
@@butchvito Yeah, I watched that. I remember them saying when he was a fan, he thought he had some kind of telepathy with the band where certain songs were messages to him. Then he thought they were stealing stuff. I also remember they said he was kicked out of the club that night because he was acting so strange. Unfortunately, he got back in through an unlocked side door or something and we all know what happened from there. 😥
Pantera literally changed metal. If you look at the influences in most bands after them, they either were influenced by Pantera, or were influenced by bands that were influenced by Pantera
uh..don't think so...
THE MOST METALIH BAND EVER... the concept of musicmaking, is the most metal based you can get... BEST METAL BAND EVER...
@@theelder91 i do so..
@@chaoznofx nope.
Dimebag is the guitarist in this song. He was shot on stage during a show with a side project band
First thing I want to say to you is that I really appreciate and enjoy your reactions. But please, please listen to the band tool with earcans on. Not even earbuds will give you the the totally different experience that you will get with their music by wearing quality headphones. I know you've heard it already but please do "the pot" again with ear cans and... You're welcome, because you're gonna thank me helping you with a life changing musical experience 😅
You should check the vh1 behind the music pantera story they talk about the death of dimebag and the hole story
I was living in Texas when Dimebag got shot. I remember them breaking in on the radio to give the news. It was one of the most bonkers insane things I've ever heard.
Their track “Mouth for War” is sick. Also the entire album Vulgar Display of Power… treat yourself🙏
My beautiful brother! You have an amazing ear. God's blessings upon you and yours.
God, Pantera, and 1 love!🙏💛☯️🌞💯🤘
Awesome reaction!!! Next up.....Domination LIVE in Moscow 1991
Those screams at the end with the guitar echoing on,... Just send chills up and down my body every time. Completely epitomizes grief. 🤘😭🤘😎❤️
Phil is originally from New Orleans where I am from. His dad owned a great restaurant in the Area and I knew his uncle Roy very well from childhood. My mother worked for him he was a night club owner around the area he owned several and Jimmy Anselmo owned the biggest music venue in New Orleans for a long time called Jimmies. There's a whole documentary about that place. So he had been around a lot of musicians throughout his life.
I worked at the house of shock when I was a late teen in the late 90’s. I met Phil multiple times
@@johncarpenter3751 Never got the chance to go. Out by Clearview and Jefferson Highway. I gave my mom some money once to take my kids but I never had the chance. Single dad with 2 kids I was working all the time. Phil's uncle Roy isn't related to me but that's what I called him too, uncle Roy. I had been around him since I was like 4 or 5 years old lol. I'm 62 now ha.
@@charlessarver8350 ok I went to Riverdale High and grew up on Division Street in Metairie, the same street Ellen grew up on
Loved Jimmy's and Anselmo's Italian!!! Cheers..
If you are into this genre of music, Pantera is one of those go to bands you must hear . I dabble into all genre's personally Pantera is often imitated by garage bands but never equaled. ✌
Dimebag and Vinnie, the drummer, were brothers. His brother died not long after Dimebag died...
Dimebag asked Eddie Van Halen if he could make Dimebag a Van Halen guitar. Eddie declined. But at Dimebag's funeral, Eddie showed up and placed his black and yellow strat called "Bumble Bee", the actual guitar on the cover of the album Van Halen II, in Dimebag's casket and he was buried with it. That's a sign of respect for a fellow guitarist.
Thank you for sharing, I didn't know that and feel better having learned it.
Aw, if you wanna know the vibe they left listen to Cowbows from Hell :)
Darrell was a kind and loving soul. Our daughters are best friends. They were at a Marilyn Manson show here in Dallas when my daughter heard about the shooting. Her BFF had no idea what had happened. It was a tough night…
I had the opportunity to open for damage plan about 4 months before the shooting in New Orleans for the Head Bangers Ball tour. I knew Phil fairly well just from the local scene. Vinnie was such a cool dude. Cheers from Texas!!!
Gotta do the album/studio version. The music video version cuts a large portion of the intro to make the song whiter for tv I guess. The beginning slow intro contrast to the rest is great and changes the feel imo
Pantera domination live in Moscow is a must react!
Nickleback wrote a song about Dimebag's murder. "Side of a Bullet" Pantera has a very storied, proud and sad history. A landmark band.
Welcome to the club. "This Love" and "Good Friends and a bottle of pills" should make your short list.
This concert tour was the last "indoor" concert I ever went to. I lost about 30% of my hearing that night, and it was worth it. It was an amazing concert, and I am so glad I saw them. This song helped me move on from a lot of pain. I'm sure it did for many people. It deserves all the accolades it got. Thanks for reacting to it, it's impressive to see someone as affected by it for the first time. Cowboys From Hell is a must-hear. Also, I'm still mad at whoever stole my concert shirt.
WHAT?
😂🤣
Glade you discover them, I was playing in a band in the Dallas scene in the 80's and Pantera was the band we were all chasing. Our drummer ended up going to Drownin Pool, Happy your open to this type of music. It's a great song, and Dimebags solo is one of the greatest.
Never forgot that day.
I've heard this song 100s of times and still get goosebumps everytime. R.I.P.Dime and Vinnie 🤘
Helllllyeah!!! RIP Dime and Vinnie!!!! Check out Domination live in Moscow amazing!!!
Phil Anselmo is Lead singer
this song definitely showcased Phil Anselmo's vocal chops...he was a big fan of guys like Rob Halford from Judas Priest...who could really belt like this
"Who killed Dimebag Darrell??", killed me Bro.
I too was lucky enough to see them live on their last (unbeknownst) tour. Dime's death was a hard pill to swallow.
Phil used to sing in a local band in the 80's calked RAZOR WHITE, used to open for LILLIAN AXE, then i joined the Navy, and was on VA. BEACH and i saw Pantera at THE PEPPERMINT BEACH CLUB, i go in and i see Phil, the singer from Razor White.
Cowboys from hell, walk, this love, the art of shredding
It was people who were past age 30 say 40-45 years ago who grew up on Beatles, Motown, Gospel, and Country music where no one ever sang with aggressive power just sang all light and pretty. Those music fans would say "oh that band can't sing at all" because to them rock music after the hippy age was just yelling or something.
Darrel died less than 15 miles from where I sit typing this comment. I remember the day it happened. It sent shock waves through the metal world, not only for other bands who admired his talent, but the fans who loved him and felt cheated out of so much more music he would've made. It was sad. Thankfully, we have so much music to listen to from him and his brother Vinnie.
Love ya bro...u have a great ear
Oh shit! I just posted the same thing!🤘😃🤘
Official Live 101 Proof is one of them albums you pop in, hit play and absorb.
Best live recordings ever produced, IDGAF
Pantera were the band that changed the heavy metal game when they first broke the scene in 1990/ '91... Before them, heavy and thrash metal bands had a straightforward beat that relied on speed and technicality... glam rock bands had a simple beat that girls could bop to. Vinnie Paul (drums) gave Pantera a groove w/ his beats that went w/ his brother Dimebag Darrell (guitar) and his riffs, and Rex Brown (bass) was added to the heavy groove that could move a standing audience like no other band... Pantera were the metal band that saved heavy metal music in the 90's when all the other major bands from the 80's fell out of flavor or started putting out 'softer' records to fit into the scene. Pantera went harder and heavier from 1990 to 2001... It was a sad situation when the band splintered w/ the 2 brothers and Phil & Rex on different sides.
Damageplan was the band that Vinnie and Dimebag formed in 2004 and released 1 album 'New found power'... They were touring in December when they pulled into Columbus, Ohio for a concert... A deranged gunman broke into the club and fought his way to the stage where he shot & killed Dimebag Darrell and 3 others, before police killed the shooter - a mentally unstable ex-marine...
Vinnie Paul was devastated by his brother's death, but decided to form a new band Hellyeah! in 2007, which he carried on until his death in 2018 from heart failure... He refused to reconcile w/ the members of Pantera before his passing.
There is a VH1 'Behind the music' documentary on Pantera that was filmed around 2006 after Dimebag's murder.
Phil Anselmo (vocals) performed more Pantera songs on his solo tours to honor the late brothers Vinnie and Dimebag... In 2022, Phil and Rex reached an agreement w/ Vinnie and Dimebag's families to tour under the name Pantera as a celebration of the band's catalog of music...
Zakk Wylde (guitar) was picked to play Dimebag's parts because he was his closest friend... Zakk is Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist and also has a band called Black Label Society... He paid tribute to Dimebag in 2005 w/ a powerful song 'In this river' by Black Label Society and an equally powerful music video...
Charlie Benante (drums) of Anthrax was a friend of the brothers, and Dimebag had contributed guitar solos to Anthrax albums from 1995 to 2004... and he is a fan of Pantera, so he was more than willing to play Vinnie Paul's parts on tour w/ Pantera.
The "trade off at the end" is known, musically, as "question and answer". It's a common motif in ALL types of music from Metal to Classical to Country, etc. 👍🏽😁
The biggest shame is that asshat not only killed one of the greatest guitarists ever but he was also one of the sweetest kindest souls ever always took time out to talk personally to his fans as an equal not as the god that everyone held him as and Eddie van halen put his most famous guitar in dimebags coffin since he held him in such high regard
If I could like this a thousand times, I Would!!
Lol i see the head bobbing, welcome to groove metal
Brief history of Pantera:
The band was formed in the early 80's by brothers Paul Vincent Abbott and Darrell Lance Abbott as teenagers in school w/ their friend Rex Brown joining early... Their father was Texas country artist Jerry Abbott, and he owned a studio in which Pantera recorded their early albums. The brothers were huge Kiss fans in the 70's and both picked up guitars... but Darrell was obsessed w/ playing guitar, so his older brother Vinnie played drums so that they could jam together and got into rock and metal bands like ZZ Top, Judas Priest, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, etc.
But their love of Kiss won out and Pantera was born as a glam rock band w/ each member using a stage name - Diamond Darrell (guitar), Vinnie Paul (drums) w/ Rex Rocker (bass) and their first vocalist Terry Glaze (real name Terrence Lee)... They wanted to be a party band like Motley Crue and Ratt w/ booze and girls... Pantera recorded 3 albums w/ Glaze, released independently - 'Metal magic' (1983)... 'Projects in the jungle' (1984) and 'I am the night' (1985)... But the band felt that they needed a more aggressive vocalist, so Glaze was fired and after a long search, New Orleans native Phil Anselmo (vocals) joined and recorded their 4th album 'Power metal' in 1988.
In 1989, Darrell was offered a gig in Megadeth... but he declined because his brother Vinnie wasn't hired (They already had a drummer).
However, Pantera had already become fans of thrash metal bands like Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax... so they decided in '89 to ditch the glam image and be a straight-up metal band.
Pantera had a huge reputation in Texas as a live band for years... but all the record labels had rejected them. That changed in 1990 when an Atco Records rep saw them live and was blown away... He signed the band and put them in the studio. Pantera decided to start fresh w/ their 5th album 'Cowboys from Hell' in 1990 and introduced themselves to a brutal brand of extreme metal as they began touring extensively and saw their music videos on MTV... Even Rob Halford, lead singer of Judas Priest, became a fan of Pantera and wanted to meet the band and take them on tour.
Rather than play safe music, Pantera got heavier w/ each record and their shows were brutal w/ the band revving up their audiences to the max... The album 'Vulgar display of power' (1992) became a platinum record... the next album 'Far beyond driven' (1994) reached #1 on the US charts w/ no radio airplay and sold platinum as well. Pantera also got a reputation as a hard-partying, hard-drinking touring band...
However, an injury to Phil Anselmo's back resulted in the vocalist abusing prescription drugs and then heroin by 1996, which also made him unpredictable on stage... 'The great southern trendkill' (1996) reached #4 on the charts and sold gold, but Pantera was shaken by Phil's revelation when he OD'd on heroin in '96 after a concert... A live album 'Official live: 101 proof' was released in 1997, but a new album was delayed until 2000... 'Reinventing the steel' was the last Pantera album released in 2000 and went gold again. Phil had an accident that suspended touring until 2001... Pantera was to tour Europe that fall when the 9/11 attacks happened and the band canceled.
Exhausted by the Pantera workload, Phil Anselmo wanted a change and started new projects like Superjoint Ritual, Down, and was back on tour playing smaller venues... Rex Brown joined him in the band Down. Dimebag and Vinnie felt abandoned by the other 2 and finally got tired of waiting for Pantera to get back together by 2003. The brothers formed Damageplan in 2004, releasing the album 'New found power'... They were on tour in December '04 when Dimebag Darrell was murdered at a show by a deranged gunman.
After the tragedy, Phil Anselmo was no longer welcome in Pantera's inner circle for years... he worked on various projects, as did Rex Brown... Vinnie Paul formed the band Hellyeah! in 2007 and was back on tour and making new records. Sadly, he passed away in 2018 from heart failure and Hellyeah! decided to end its run after a 2019 tour.
I saw Pantera in Seattle touring for thier first album which this song is on. I feel blessed to see 2 of the greatest metal musicians of all time that are no longer with us. Phil is great, his story went downhill in later years but as you said... He can sing. Vinnie Paul was one of the greatest drummers which shows more in the heavier songs, Cemetary Gates is more or less a ballad for Pantera. Check out Cowboys From Hell for some foot stomping fun or go with some 1991 insanity in Moscow in front of 1.6 million people with Domination. Durning thier first 2 or 3 albums no band matched their intinsity... They were the Metal Gods for a few years. Dimebag was simply one of few GOATS in music... Great guitar players worship him.
Go back when you want!! WE LOVE THAT!!
RIP to the Abbott brothers!
ZZ top is also from Texas.
One of my favorite songs EVER! And I'm going to see them live TODAY outdoors!! A 4 hour drive but gonna be well worth it, 🤘🤘😬unfortunately obviously missing out on the Abbot brothers but Zakk and Charlie are killing it in filling in. You should compare original lineup to the new one. Charlie has nailed the drums and Zakk has his own sound that he's using in it which is respectful that he's not doing karaoke imitating Dimebag as if to show off his also amazing talent. I'm fired up to see this. RIP Dimebag and Vinnie ❤
There is a documentary on UA-cam about the murder and actually shows video of that crazy piece of shit that killed Dime RIGHT IN FRONT of Vinnie... He felt Dime was the reason Pantera split up. Hope he's still on fire in Hell
RIP brothers!!!!!!!!!! you will be missed more than you know!!!!
Dimebag's murder was highlighted on an ID CHANNEL series
Bruh got up and walked away from the POWA!!! LOVE it!!!
Domination - Live in Moscow should be your next Pantera reaction.
Vinnie Paul and Dime are from Texas, the singer Phil, is from Metairie, LA. WENT TO THE SAME HIGH SCHOOL AS I DID, Grace King, they closed it this year
The story of the Abbot brothers is indeed a sad one. Dime was shot dead in front of his brother who was on drums. I was fortunate enough to see Pantera on their farewell tour, although we didn't know it at the time. To this day, the Extreme Metal Tour of 2001 is among the best live shows I ever experienced. Headlined by Pantera and Slayer, it's every bit as high energy you would expect
Vinnie Paul passed in 2018. You can see their graves online. They were buried side by side
Nice choice. Great band, great song!
I never heard that "Rock Singers can't Sing" They are some of the best singers on earth.
Phil Anselmo had an insane voice. Each consecutive album his vocals got harder and harder along with the music. The clean vocals you hear on Cowboys from Hell (this song, for instance), show that he was up there with the best metal vocalists of all time. The high notes he could hit...
Those pauses you mention definitely aren’t random. They’re in all kinds of music, but it always pumps me up
ZZ Top is a band from Texas that u know and reacted to 😈
RIP Dime and Vinnie
Us old heads wait for the reaction at the end of the song. Instead of a Floorgasm , thats a Pantgasm.
For more face -melting solos from Dimebag, please react to Domination next.
15:21 lmao
I Love the Melody of this song;; & the Vocals!! ; Way better than their first selected song in general : Walk
Hey! Nice reaction. I recommend the long version (with the more lyrical beginning). best regards from Germany.
Recommend Pantera " Sleep" oficial video 🤘🏻☠️🤘🏻🎸 the best solo guitar!!
This was 33 YEARS AGO!! Let that sink in. Jesus lived and died within this timespan. Rest In Power Vinnie Paul & Dimebag Darrell. You Are Sorely Missed...
One of my favourites you are going to love their music
great reaction! One of the best Metal bands of all times. I remember hearing about Dimebags passing while sitting in a bar with my friends. Some of us shed some tears. anyways... just a tip. your camera is focusing on your Michael Jordan poster behind you. Not sure if that is intentional but it really makes your face blurry.
dimebag cannot be silenced
Live tho so much better🎉
U have to listen to Donination, Floods, and Walk if u like this solo. PanterA Lifer 🤘🏻
He was also killed in front of his older brother the drummer..
A good documentary to watch would be Pantera Behind the Music Remastered. Right here on UA-cam. I appreciated this reaction very much. Long Live Pantera! R.I.P. Darrell and Vinnie 🤘
I am 66 years old and I never heard that rock and rollers can't sing, in fact I've always heard the opposite, so I don't know when or why you heard that.
I'm 62, And wondered the same thing!
The 5 albums Pantera recorded from 1990 to 2000 are considered some of the greatest in extreme metal... Dimebag Darrell (guitar) was truly a legendary guitarist and a showman... He was also a huge fanboy and would always be partying w/ fans and bands backstage... shoving drinks in people's faces and living it up!
Pantera's heavier and faster songs include - 'Mouth for war'... 'Cowboys from hell'... 'Domination'... 'Becoming'... 'Hellbound'... 'The great southern trendkill'... Some of their slower (but heavy) numbers include - 'Walk' ... 'This love' ... 'Floods' ... "I'm broken"... 'Goddamn electric' 🤘🤘🔥🔥
The REST IS HISTORY, PANTERA is one of the BEST HEAVY METAL BANDS OF ALL TIME!!!!
Aye
up with this band and got pick from dinebag at a live show in Cleveland. They are so near to my heart from 14, I'm 47 now.
The fact that a black man can appreciate some white music and give AF about us is amazing. Ima German white boy write, and Rao, spoken word. So I'm all up in yalls shit too. But much respect for givin us a shout. I produce DnB n jungle, some trap now but I go back to these guys for my rock fix from time to time. But I appreciate you transcending to "some White people music". Some good shit out there bruv. I lean more towards rap n Trap now and of course DnB but when I need to get some metal or thrash in, this is my band among others. Bro I fought a dude ina mosh pit for a pick that the bass player threw out and I'm ashamed I forget his name. But I had a combat boot thrown to the side of my head while in the battle for the pick. Crawling on the ground elbowing this mfer. We got up and started headbutting each other, info to swing and we was like it's all good and shook it out lol. Both black eyes and bleeding lol.
But seriously man thank you for checkin our shit out. It's epic. As is a lot of rap, we appreciate that too. Holla ifya want ✊
It was everywhere and the incident happened at the alrosa villa in Columbus ohio
Brother that misconception came from the same exact place that the misconception of rappers being non skilled hacks came from . It’s the same shit music is music just the tones and beats change by flavor ( fuck genre ) subscribed and liked great reaction
You should check out the live version of domination has one of the iconic dimebag solos in it saw them in the 90s when I was in my 20s not gonna lie when I heard dimebag had been shot it devastated me
100%
Dio and Bruce Dickinson of maiden could easily sing opera.
Phil has degenerative disc problems in his back and went through years of substance abuse, which was the major factor behind Pantera breaking up. He went on to form and record with half a dozen or so other bands (most notably Down and Superjoint Ritual) and performed with folks like Hank III, Joe Fazzio, Jimmy Bower and Wayne Fabra. He even recorded a song with Killjoy (Necrophagia), Fenriz (Darkthrone), Satyr (Satyricon) and Maniac (Mayhem).
If you really want to be shocked, just listen to any track from Pantera's "pre-Phil" lineup. Their previous 3 albums with singer Terry Glaze were hair metal and got them nowhere. Phil was the catalyst for the band's evolution and success. And I'm not ignoring the talents of the rest of the band. Just pointing out that no one would have ever known they existed had they continued down the path they were on before Phil joined.🤘
You have been Blessed
We're gonna have to start a Go Fund Me and score you some Kareem Abdul-Jabbar goggles so you can head bang🤘
Bro try nightwish ghost love score will blow ur mind😂
DIMEBAG is the MJ of metal guitar...
@MMBxMOB just heard u reference Megadeth and Metallica.....Dave Mustaine was originally in Metallica as lead guitar before forming Megadeth
Dime was killed exactly 24 years to the date of John Lennon. Both on Dec 8.
Been waiting a long ass time for u to come to this band. I think u'll really enjoy them. Please check out Pantera's We'll grind that axe for a long time and Domination live from Russia (USSR) back then.
Really excited for u guy, enjoy. Support from this Canadian viewer. 👍
The band Dime was in was not a big name like PANTERA, it was without Phil and called DAMAGE PLAN, his brother Vinnie was playing the drums when the PYSCHO walked onto the stage and shot Dime. Very sad, VINNIE WENT ON TO form HELLYEAH with the kead singer of MUDVAYNE, another great Metal band
it comes from gutteral vocaling of death and black metal wich many don't consider actual singing and the best way to tell what type of those 2 metal genres your listening is that normally death metal has deep gutterals while black metal has more of an high pitch screeching gutteral vocaling if getting into black metal the structure of black metal flips conventional music structure on its head also as warnning black metal has dark and twisted history and is normally considered the black sheep of metal just a little history from a black metalist
If you enjoy tempo changes you might enjoy early Avenged Sevenfold. Their self-titles album might be a good starting point.
Yeah dude rushed the stage and opened fire
The world losing dimebag is why they started putting metal detectors at concert venues
Edited version!! you need to hear the album version. You missed the 12 string acoustic introduction...
Eddie Van Halen put his guitar that Dimebag offered to buy for 30 bands and he didn't. When he passed Eddie put his guitar in his coffin and said "An original deserves an original" RIP Dimebag Darrell and Vinny Abbott. The song Domination really showcases Dime especially in the video from Moscow.
Imagine being at the show where Dime was killed on stage. How that guy made it out of there I have no idea. I wish I would have been there. Very disappointed in the crowd... I guess that's Ohio for you. I would like to thank the guy would have never escaped down south.
It was rappers who said Rockers can't sing 😂😂😂
People wanted to dismiss and disrespect rock music in general and heavy metal in particular, of course they would float false narratives such as metal singers couldn't actually sing
Rip abbot bros
Im Broken
This and Walk
Phil could of made a great jazz singer
Well... Pantera is one of the bands that have that talk about rock singers 🤣🤣 this people say " it's only screaming " so has no technique
Its anyone who doesnt like metal and rock says they cant sing they just scream
