Its brilliant coop, and even in coop you can still have an A.I. companion , getting them to fo the flying or driving is excellent
@@JohnDoe-pu5gk its tiresome. I doubt you have much influence over the ubisoft team but please pass on the message from the players. It gets tiresome. Space it out a bit or change the modifiers and the code so its a bit more randomised
Pretty much the first review I have seen where the reviewer actually plays the game without X-Ray vision turned on or tags which I think makes the game way too easy and boring. So if you do buys this game, turn all the aids off, it's way better.

I miss when Far Cry was more about survival. I feel like it's just over the top Hollywood action now. I'm sure it's still fun, but I fell in love with Far Cry back in FC2 & 3, where you were in a dangerous place, mostly alone, vastly outnumbered, and a few bullets could end you if you couldn't find cover and heal up. I'll probably still pick this up when it's on sale, but Far Cry still feels so different now.

Early to mid game on hard is still punishing for the unprepared. Not as lethal as far cry 2 though. Needless to say nothing in this far cry is as lethal as the trigen.
Just hearing Trigen triggers some post traumatic stress in me xD

Thanks for the tip about turning off enemy tags and x-ray vision! I didn't know you could do that with this game and it makes it much more fun. When you know where everyone is it becomes very mechanical and sucks all the tension out of the experience.

I would have agreed if you would have said " Can't afford Far Cry 4 but already own Far Cry 3" I skipped 4 because it was to much the same ! and I skipped Primal because it looked shit. And I am happy to say that 5 is awesome.
I find it baffling that they still haven't progressed the series since 3. I feel like i will only buy 5 for the co-op in a few years.

A lot has changed in two years people tend to tell honest things about the games they're playing so this game sucks the open world ends after beating the game there's no enemy it's just the same Outpost to take over,
besides that what about the flying plane noise that's in your game no matter what anybody says it's in everybody's game what about that annoying plane that constantly sees you through walls,
what about the enemies that constantly see through walls what about the fact that half the time you go to do stealth it makes everybody else know exactly where you are very fakefully what about taking out knife kills what about taking out water animals what about halfway through the story you're constantly ripped out or chased by a helicopter until you beat the game and then after you beat the game you're followed by the same f****** plane noise except this time it just circles you...
So maybe it's better if I were to tell people what is in their game and what will be in their game this is not by opinion this is documented fact...

Summary
It's a typical Far cry game with some improvements but also some glaring issues. For me I miss the crafting from FC3, it made me feel like I was living off the land, it was not like the horrible grind of ACO which tbh was simply to tempt you to buy mats from the cash shop! FC5 uses the perk system to give you larger bags etc which I just flat out hate.
The world is big and open and made me want to walk around it more than drive or fly, the whole ambience is great especially when you hear the distant talking or music of the cult, so damn good. Combat wise it's great, the gun play is amazing with a deep thwack followed by rag doll over the top dying which never gets old. The big issue is the sometimes terrible Ai and way too many incidents happening on the road with enemies re spawning at a stupid rate.
Many lefties are upset that Ubisoft did not turn this game into a white Christian, Trump, right wing extravaganza and am very happy about that. The cult are clearly not Christians, the game makes this perfectly clear a number of times and also has black members in it's ranks. All this has upset the left wing extremists and am very happy every time that happens, hate is hate at the end of the day no matter which side it belongs, left or right.
It's a fun game with loads to do and is best served without the tagging and xray vision which can be turned off in the options, it's well worth a buy despite it's flaws due to the huge amount of fun you have playing it.

I've played this game a lot (had to go in and deselect half the stuff as it was all auto-tagging, enemy tagging, waypoint tagging, etc, etc, but I've NEVER done a microtransaction. It is available, and there are probably things I don't have access to b/c of that, but I've never felt that the game experience was lessened b/c I didn't do it.

Far Cry games are usually kinda tedious for me, but the setting is really interesting on this one so I may grab it on the cheap later on.

Kevin O'Riordan Nah, between the original Far Cry and Crysis the island thing had been done to death by the time we got FC3. Montana is way more interesting to me.
I feel the same way about the farcry franchise but this one has a way more instresting world imo, and everything feels soo polished. I would highly recommend, I felt the same way as you but I took the leap and I really don't regret it. Turn off the hud put it on hardcore and I think this one will get you gripped.

Douwe Evenhuis I only played 10 or so hours of 3, and skipped everything since. It's a fun time while it lasts, but gets old quick. This one seems like a good buy at $10-15.
I'm actually relieved to hear there is no crafting. In all my FC playthroughs I've ended up spending too much time overgathering instead of gunplay, which felt like busywork. I will have to wait and see if the perk system is an adequate replacement.
That clip at 3:55 was hilarious car after car, oh they died send another in lol. It would have been better if it was a big convoy like mad max.
Gunplay does look good, but the bad AI doesn't surprise me.
Overall I'm not really a far cry fan, 3 was fun but just not my game. Good review though.
I found the same problem with Far Cry Primal... Every few feet there was another enemy encounter. After a while it just became annoying having to stop every 20 seconds to twat another dingo, or take out the exact same enemy patrol over and over again.
When you're closer to the town they come in 3 waves. It gets so annoying after a while.
And not to mention it looks absolutely nothing like the real world. Gta 5 was probably the closest any game has been to real life, not visuals but the actual world. It felt like you were actually in California.
New game plus insane difficulty is honestly the way to play.

Whilst FarCry 5 doesn't have a "bad guy" as good as Vaas, overall, it is a superior game.
Needs half a dozen patches though.
I agree, Far Cry 3's world was quite empty, the focus on natural exploration in world that feels handcrafted with lots of side stories even if they're on the short side made it overall a more enjoyable experience. Biggest issue for me is the Ai, if they turn down the encounter rates by 50-70% on the main roads it would make it much better.

I can't play Far Cry anymore. The AI being so blind and deaf is such a stark contrast with Far Cry 2's AI that I just get bored, even with all the content added.
Loved Far Cry 3, loved Blood Dragon, but it's all the same game from then on.
FC2 remains the best, even with its lack of content
C0T0HA finnaly someone sees the bullshit I even got farcry 2 for 3 $ on steam the fire and ai is super and the revival mechanisms and gun gameplay and that think on your feet flight or die feeling in infamous difficulty with no hand holding and actually using a map I never gave farcry 3 a chance since they tonded it down in my eyes after 2 Farcry needs a new scenario like farcry 2 gameplay wise your exactly right they been the same since 3
Been sticking to this opinion ever since FC2's release. A diamond in the rough that game, will never get tired of replaying it. Its lack of content and mission monotony is compensated with the sheer unpredictability of every gunfight and the rewarding feeling of beating impossible odds.
I would recommend you try Blood Dragon though, it doesn't take itself seriously and puts the fun factor to the extreme. These are the two opposite points of the franchise, and to me both are the best.
The thing with FC1 is that AI was borderline cheating there, it wasn't a balanced system and you couldn't fool them once spotted, which sometimes happened through solid objects

LOL, I hated the crafting in past games. Get 5 komodo dragon skins and 2 albino crocs to get a new wallet. Come on...
I wasn't a big fan of the crafting but I gotta say now it's gone I kinda miss it and the tower climbing for that matter. If you are going to gut things from a game it would be nice to add something new to fill it out again, that's where it falls short imo. That and the fact the AI just stand there and let you shoot them, even on hard.

Hated the crafting in FC 4 but FC 3 is in my top 5 and the crafting in that game was great.I loved every side activity in FC 3,it was just so good!
You don't get everything on the get go. It's just that, instead of hunting a gazillion animals to craft new bags, you earn perk points through challenges, which you can spend on inventory space, skills and other stuff.

As somebody born and raised in Hope County Montana, the landscape is dead on. The town layouts and design as well. I recommend everyone visit the area sooner rather than later. We are starting to get a lot of California money buying up the land so there are fewer and fewer places that you can actually go anymore that don't have a "No Trespassing" sign.

I love the game and like it lots more than you do Mack, but you’re absolutely spot on with how annoying enemy density is in the world. You say 2 minutes but I can’t go more than 30 seconds driving down a paved road without running into an enemy patrol vehicle, road block, or an enemy hostage situation. It’s forced me to turn the game down to Normal difficulty because I just keep getting downed left and right from these groups and the reinforcements they usually are able to summon. Still more enjoyable to me than FC3/4 though because of the sheer amount of combat variety and overall polish.

The A.I. Is actually really smart in this game. For example when you have your A.I. buddy with you and you command him to do a stealth attack on someone he will actually find a way to sneak up behind him and take him out. He won’t just run up in front of him and be a dummy.

Far Cry 3 was shit. You complain about patrols staying instead of going away, but a huge problem of Far Cry 3 was that you had nothing to do after clearing most of the map. Just driving around, nothing happening ever. Completely boring. Liberations lasted 5 seconds each so that was the only action that you would really see apart from the story missions which were way too scripted. Vaas was a good character but his story completely fell through, just like every other story thread in that game. And they made it easy as fuck with all the x-ray vision, dumbed down AI etc. etc.
If you want a real game, Far Cry 2 is the one that won't hold your hand. The one that's actually hard. That will teach you that you suck at sneaking and also suck at shooting. The one that actually has a really good story with a great ending on top of it all.
Far Cry 5 is only taking baby steps toward being half as immersive as Far Cry 2 was. Far Cry 2 had no x-ray vision, no stealth meter, no anything. The enemies could actually see you, and even the map was something you'd hold in your hands.

I went back to Far Cry 2 on PC with some graphics mods and WOW is it good! Like you said, it is one of the most immersive game worlds ever. All Far Cry needs to do is be Far Cry 2 with more detail and side missions and it would be perfect

I loved FC2 played it to death but it no longer works on my win 10 :( As for the OP, I loved the fact that when you cleared a region it became free, it added to immersion. FC5 is just way over done with spawning.
I feel exactly the same. I'm actually replaying FC2 now and it feels so much better than FC3. The respawning adds sense of danger, you have to think how to get from A to B. And even in 2018 the game still look great. There is no hand holding, you're not constantly reminded what key to press or which way to go.
It can be hard and I hated at first, but then I read Majorslack tutorial about gameplay and weapon loadout.
A far cry with no supernatural or mutants
An open world that's properly and interestingly populated
No stupid fetch quests, towers or grindy crafting
The brutality and survival feel of 2
The fun perks, mechanics, gadgets and gun play of 3-5
The interface and progression of 5
The gun customization of BF4
And the guns for hire of 5 but with more personality, interesting banter, and more skills/classes, maybe with some small perk trees for them
That's the far cry we want

My favorite in games is when you have a shotgun that fires both its chambers at once. One because it is tribute to doom and because feels great.

If not then wait for a sale. There is almost no game worth full price unless you are a reviewer. Exception being the glory that was Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

I normally agree and dont like and like the same things as him ussually for the same reasons. I understand why he feels this way but he didnt give it a chance if he doesnt hate the antagonists. Like its amazing i swear. Ive never wrote a comment like this before trying to sell somthing like this.. ive played it through almost 3 times already. And played over 100 hours since it dropped.

I honestly love the fishing in this game aswell. And hunting with a bow... i dont know why, but the woods are amazing and sitting on the shore with a fishing rod out and just angling is amazing. Although, sadly, there's as much cult water trafic with boats as there is on the road with cars so ....
I think that the devs were thinking that the cultists would have blocked off the roads preventing contact to the outside world.

The only X-Ray vision I have turned on is for coop so I can see my partner as you can't stray too far away of it teleports you, it's about 1000 meters. All enemy tags and X-ray vision is turned off which makes the game much harder and more enjoyable, don't understand why other reviews all have that bullshit turned on.

That WAB was unexpected...i guess i tolerate even less than Mack. What use does a good gun play have if everything else sucks? Bad Storytelling, bad characters, bad AI, decent graphics, same old lame gameplay but even more casual - now you dont even need to hunt anymore to craft stuff.. yeah meh. It looks more like Just Cause. Booom Booom Booom *enemies spawns 50 meters in front of you* just annoying, boring and unimmersive. In FC3 you had atleast the feeling that enemies were on patrol and if you kill them they will stay away (well if you clear the outpost atleast) - but they never spawned directly in your face. It´s piss easy even if you turn most of the UI off. Without UI + hard that would be normal difficulty on older games..and oh by the way if you leave some UI on..there are even fucking arrows on the street now to direct your way...just STOP. I just cant tolerate games like this anymore. Yeah the Gun Play is decent...and its piss easy too. Get a Silenced sniper, you dont need anything else for the rest of the game. Even in FC3 it was just OP. Sorry Mack this time i disagree with your WAB but well i still give a thumb up. Keep going Mack ^^

Of all reviewers, I never thought you would be the one to prefer crafting over weapon challenges. Challenges mean you get to try something else than just killing dudes in the way you find most efficient, and might actually teach you something fun, have you try a weapon you wouldn't even think of etc. You get to do more killing and get rewarded for it. Crafting means having to go around this giant map, trying to find this one animal and kill it X times just to be able to hold more ammo etc. That's not fun, that's busywork, it belongs in RPGs, not maniac-killer simulators.
Because sea of thieves was so void of pirating. I can't help but pirate this game to make up for bad booty.

100% agree with this review. I found the AI dumb as a door knob on hard, even turning off all the aids including the detection meter it's still pretty easy unless you get bogged down by reinforcements. I found I'm running everywhere because the forest is just soo pretty to look at, the atmosphere in the game is awesome. Biggest disappointment for me is your character has no voice acting and you can skip main story missions if you complete too many side missions.

Having just come off of kingdom come right into an action shooter, I would love to see them start adding some real rpg elements to the games and some actual interaction with the npc's, not just them rambling to you the crazy mute. And of course deeper crafting. But still great shit
