Summary of my thoughts. If you want mindless mayhem with some pretty strange guns then it's worth a buy for sure. If however you are looking for a decent First person shooter where you have to think about how to assault the many different fortresses and garrisons like you did with the older FC games then stop right there. The Ai is literally blind, stupid and suffering from dementia, they react slower than an asthmatic three legged Hippo with cataracts and thats on max difficulty. This is the easiest FPS I have ever played in my life, it offers no challenge, you just go along for the ride, it's really disappointing. So it really depends what you want out of the game, good gunplay with tense firefights or a Just Cause game, this is the latter.
Well the only real protagonist in Far Cry i care about is Jason Brody, at the beginning he is only college guy but when game is progress and start to upgrade, he turn into badass killer want to revenge against Vaas who killed his big brother. That alone is better than rest of Far Cry after 3
Yes, AAA funded games should have wonderful forests similar to Kingdom Come. It is pitiful game development. I wonder if their reusing the badly optimized game engine over and over to save money is the root of the cause.
Mack! It's really weird you didn't like the chaotic, dynamic nature of the FC 5 world. One of the best parts was travelling by foot and enjoying the scenery, while simultaneously getting into skirmishes with the enemy, watching allies fight battles, fishing, hunting, collectibles, mini stories, bunkers, outposts... There was never a lul in the action or purpose, with enough differences to give the impression of fresh scenarios, and the ai would at least give you a relative time of it all. Then POW, all of it gone when the game forces you to kill the boss. Both the best implementation of an idea and the worst at the same time. Mindboggling. And nuts you dont enjoy random skirmishes as well. In FC 5 at least. Also, i think you confused 5 with New Dawn. New Dawn had the "special operations."
Have you noticed a new trope in recent years of the "I'm like sooo quirky smart and cool!" archetype? It's almost universal. They even have the same odd high pitched kind of voice.
Hilarious. Man, great stories, but RECORD what you're talking about. If you're talking about the old woman going over her own trip mines, record that shit! Makes it funny for us, too! lol.
I work with a lad who is 22, a huge, obsessive gamer. However he is of the DLC/microtransaction generation. He bought this and spent time last night telling me how great it is and how he can't wait to start buying all the add on packs and cosmetic items. I asked him if he thought that just paying for the actual game should be enough. He said that's not how games work...... this is the problem. Its a whole generation now of kids who think that games like this are actually good and that paying extra for all the shite add ons is part of the experience...... I'm 43, grew up on c64/amiga/PC gaming as well as consoles, I lived through the golden days of late 90s/early 2000s PC gaming when story, plot, gameplay was vital. Things like this are just a sad indication of the way things are going and that people think it's ok
i get you. all my best social and gameplay experiences in gaming are in the long past. not because the games back then ran better, controlled better and gods knows they didn't look better but the UI, concepts, willingness to challenge the players and the no punches pulled level/enemy design (and AI) make the modern shooting gallery and lobotomised RTS genre games look like the brainless faceroll games that they are. in the 2000s i was dropping into an MMO shooter base from a dropship, killing the generator and holding that location while the zergs took unknowing advantage of the enemies inability to replace their tanks. I was playing MMOs with 24 man raids where every class had 5-7 rows of hotkeys half just for the damage rotations and the rest for utility, items, long cooldown abilities and passive buffs recasts I was driving and flying around in warzones that had warships, bombers, fighters, jeeps, tanks, AA guns, sensible base layouts and 32-64 players all having fun while blowing things apart from modest ranges (no quickscope or pixel perfect cross-map instakills in sight) I was sneaking around space stations, feudal towns/houses, city alleys and secret bases while being actively afraid of discovery by the Ai set to interesting patrol routes and moderately sensible AI. i was conquering planets one hex at a time while desperately trying to avoid mindworms or raising sprite armies to siege fully 3d castles in realtime. and that's but a fraction of what was. Now i'm lucky to run down a coridoor without a jumpscare, canned animation, weapon model taking up 1/3 of my screenspace or snarky quip by a side-shaved mental patient interfereing with my transition between rooms as i' forced to quick-scope for added accuracy and spam 2-3 magical abilities constantly to make up for the anaemic weapons that are describes as firearms but act more like nerf-guns with pins on the tips. there are exceptions but every one is an indie title, a homage, an iterative series from japanese deveopers finally releasing on PC (EDF!) or was bought 3-4 years after release at a fraction of the total cost and with 90% of the timesink mechanics ignored/cherry=picked for the most interesting rewards (ubi titles or some of the "live service" games like warframe).
Nobody thinks anything is okay, dude, we just don't have the power to do a fucking thing about it. Is the video game industry metaphorically raping all of us? Absolutely. Still better than watching politics.
It's a shame I am 24, I grew up with 90s and early 2000s game, but never supported this shitty ass microtransaction. And I am already sick with modern gaming.
If you think game companies wouldn’t have added stuff like this back then if they could you are crazy. I personally don’t care if a game has mtx or not sometimes it extends the life of a game or other times people can use a skin that they want to. I’d rather have this generation where at least they can fix the game if it’s messed up instead of some of the buggy messes that I’ve played that we’re older games. And I also understand that games are getting harder to make now with investors and boards breathing down developers necks to get the games out. Because at the end of the day it is a business and people are in business to make money
Wth that's sad. I'm 25 but I'm not as brainwashed as that guy wth happened. I mean I get bored so easily these days with how games are all the same, full of mtx bullshit and "buy buy buy" everywhere. I am happy I can enjoy games like Control and get into the story and spend 2 hours in the evening chilling and immersing myself into my hobby. The cod/mtx generation is really sad.
bro im a long time left 4 dead 2 player i still play it today i particularly enjoy versus but the entire game has set a high standard for me. i can not wait to see your review of back 4 blood, i'd say im ready to be disappointed but i dont get excited or hyped for anything anymore.
Honestly for me the mere existence of the store is enough to stay away. Props to Mack, I didn't even know about the store and missing missions from other reviews.
Yep, I've taken a hard stance on mtx. If I see them and it's not an MMO, it's an INSTANT no-buy. Although Ubisoft already disqualified themselves with forcing this onto Uplay too. Fuck Uplay. You're gonna compete with Steam? Then COMPETE WITH STEAM. Ransoming your game behind your special snowflake DRM platform is unacceptable. I love competition and we need a lot more of it, but I'm not going to shed a tear for these wankers when Gabe Newell finally runs them over with the Steam tank.
The store has been in the Far Cry series for a while. Game reviewers don't mention it because if they do, they know they won't get a free early review copy. Same thing about the missing missions. They go like "oh well it says they are coming soon so it's just like they are in the game, no need to mention it".
Same. Mack is the first reviewer to actually mention it. And its disgraceful because if they're not calling it out every time, it means its become normalised and accepted. Which it shouldn't be. I loved FC3, was disappointed with FC5 (though had an okay time in co-op). Gonna pass on this one. There's a million other games in my backlog which I hardly have time to play, this one doesn't seem like bothering with
"It was either piss easy, or, 'oh my god, this is so easy, even a journalist could play it'. " Two truths in one sentence. Brilliant. I also agree with the politically-motivated character design. It's pure garbage.
Far Cry Spring Break. That "team" looks like some anti-fur college kids who think a revolution is a cool way to spend the summer. Gaming is just getting sad.
Your the only reviewer on UA-cam that has mentioned that the game is too easy. I'm playing co op with a friend and i have been so disconnected from the combat. It almost plays itself its so easy. Thanks for being an honest reviewer. There are no games out so I bought this game...regretting it for sure
@@WorthABuyreviews yes sir not a one. I even Googled and typed it in on UA-cam yesterday 'farcry 6 too easy.' Got nothing. I always watch at least 10 reviews on a game I'm thinking about getting. Pretty sure most are bought and paid for anyway. Glad ya messaged me. I've been a fan for a long time man stay cool 😎👌😌
I've been playing it solo, its not an easy game at all. That part of the review wasn't accurate at all. The only problem is enemies do spawn all around you from nowhere. They do try to flank you and they do use cover (around trees etc.)
@@purefoldnz3070 then... you are just bad at fps games if you think far cry games are hard :))). The Ai is from 1980... and you cannot deal with them?.. if i put you in a battle royal match... i bet you hide in a bush and wait to die... man metal gs 3 has the best AI in a tactic game...
Kind of a missed opportunity not giving people the option to fight for the "bad" guys. Felt the same way in 5 after reading some of the notes left around the map.
I played the game for like 3 hrs and had the exact same tought. He hit the nail exactly on the head with this one. I'm completely unimmersed. Shouldve waited for his review before buying
Remembering how amazing Far Cry 3 was, how could they fuck it up so bad? It's so extremely ridiculous at this point, with all the weird weapons and animals fighting for you.
Last good Far cry game for me was 4. Loved how endless the setting felt, and loved the multiple endings. The game made you feel like what you were doing was questionable and all ends. Although it wasn’t a perfect game, it was a atmospheric game.
Yep. The setting was beautiful and the 2 rivals Amita and Sabal felt like they belonged to that world. In FC6 the rebels just look like college teens who would get their ass handed out to them within minutes, but of course we want some woke 'inclusive' people. Who the hell is in charge of managing these Ubisoft franchises?
Far Cry 3 and 4 felt over the top, yet also realistic. The premises we're believable. Far Cry 5's premise was completely ridiculous and FC6 has cringetastic Gen Z wanna rebels supposedly winning a fight against a dictator.
Yup me too , the dictator was believable and i want to know his story. But those other retards? erm i'll pass , those hipster types have 'mental health' problems just dealing with life and you expect me to believe they can organize and execute a guerrilla war insurgency? Hahaha what a load of bollox.
Once again Mac you have nailed this on the head. Gone are the days when gamers had to think about strategy. But developers don't want gamers these days, they just want mindless Neanderthals with a bulging wallet.
Bruh that's more rockstar than ubisoft these days I mean at least ubisoft dosen't spam calls to make you buy property's and try to make you buy microtransactions to the point it's pay2win. Ubisoft is basically more tame with the microtransactions than other companies in my opinion since they don't force you to buy them and they just say "Hey here's this pack you can buy if you want you don't need to though to enjoy and pass the game."

The new generation of developers keep creating characters and stories that are consistently targeting the wrong audience, or at least not the one the franchises were initially created for. While the quality of our hardware keeps getting better very few studios understand or respect the franchises they are working on. I don't even think is what higher-ups are pushing or demanding we have to come to terms that the developers that created most of these franchises are my and Mac's age and have long moved on. This is how the new generation of creators and developers feel the IP should look like... P.S I haven't played FarCry 2 in years but I still remember the realness, gritt and feel the game conveyed, you literally felt the danger, environment and overall seriousness of the world you were in. Everyone that thinks this is anything more than arcade fun and a 9/9 or10/10 should play FarCry 2 or 3 and maybe their opinion will change

@@pumachomper6456 It was one of the first games that had details such as wind spreading fire. But that goddamn malaria mechanic was like dealing with inserting a catheter while having the clap.
Far Cry 2 was my favourite - especially once I learned to slow down a bit and not rush round everywhere by car. I quite enjoyed FC3 also but it was already beginning to feel a little too on the 'zany for the sake of zany' side of things character wise imo. Still a really good game. 4, meh, OK but really more of the same from what I remember... Have been burned out on the series since and I can't see this dragging me back in anytime soon, certainly not at full price.
This is correct. There was also a hardcore mod for it but that still made it piss easy to headshot entire camps. Mack always hates X-ray vision in shooters, but as usual he tends to forget these things were also in games he likes/thumbs up.
I have an urge to replay FC2, I haven't played that game in about 11 years now. I remember that game being really fun. I didn't like the Malaria aspect of it, I remember being easily annoyed by it. I'd still recommend anyone to play it though, it's super fun.
This woke shit in literally EVERYTHING now is starting to get exhausting. Mack is right, it’s so immersion breaking. Diablo 2: Resurrected even got hit with this a bit with the Maamazon and the Assassin’s “pants” lol. Will we ever have nice things again, or is the new world standard to just make everything shit?
@@lupusprobitas I was kind of expecting that to be honest. I had this weird idea that the dictators son was gonna grow to rebel against his dad, like see how evil he is. That would have been so much better.
"I wouldn't follow these fuckers into a shop, let alone a fucking battle" hahaha I feel you Mack. That is a real, real shame. I was hoping this would be a spiritual successor to FC3 but apart from the setting it seems it's not even close. "Fun if you disconnect your brain" about sums up the past 2 games in this series (or any game from Ubisoft in the past few years for that matter)
Maybe it's a fun game, but if the gameplay is too mindless with non-memorable characters, then perhaps it's not for me. I tried out Just Cause, and also earlier Farcry didn't grip me as much. Before I try a new title, I should maybe play though FC3 at least once. Haha.
These characters are like "yay! Revolution, wooo!" Making these young people think that "revolutions" are fun and cool. They think they're the cool freedom fighters.
They seem to forget all the countless fucking revolutions that have taken place before theirs, all for the same reasons, all failed for the same reasons.

Look at metacritics top user score games with the most votes on them, not like 1 random anime game that's had 3 votes 10/10 so it's top, check for ones that have like 10000 reviews n go off them, have a look at UA-cam vids and see if you like it but today's gaming is pretty shit, people just blinded by graphics over quality of the actual story, characters, dialogue, missions etc.
i look around UA-cam with gamers playing Far Cry 6, sponsored streams, trying to tell people how great it is, and then i see this. A good honest review. I know where to come for real honest reviews now. Good stuff, and what an ending to the video

You're a dying breed Mack. I absolutely agree with everything you said for the most part but unfortunately this has become the new normal, hence people will never complain and if they do it's a small minority.
Aside from this review, I’ve only seen one other that has what I think is a “true review”. Way too many just going 9/10 cause Farcry, some new age politics and famous actor. Ignoring all the bugs, glitches, etc. The worst was a guy I usually agree with who gave it 8/10, and the only reason it wasn’t a 9/10 was because of bugs that locked up his computer, needing a full restart. But he did say thanks for the free copy Ubisoft, so… defo biased.

Even Assassin's Creed Valhalla, a game about Vikings was filled with safe, PC, hipster, cringy characters who don't fit the setting. To expand even more on what Mac said, these characters don't fit the setting of revolution. The reason why I used the term "woke" is because I believe that far left liberals see hate groups such as antifa as revolutionaries. The characters in this game resemble radical leftist weirdos more than the type of people who would commonly be found fighting a war. By the way, as a former Infantryman I can verify that there aren't many purple haired war fighters. That's just my opinion.
The thing that pisses me off the most is clearing out camps or bases cause you go 30 feet one way and then back and enemies have just randomly appeared again. And when you kill someone say behind 2 enemies who are 20ft away and looking the opposite way, in about 15 seconds they somehow know and are alerted and then track everywhere you go.
The thing is we use "fascist" way too loosely. The revolutionaries in all these games are meant to be modern versions of the Cuban communist revolutionaries. Not all dictators are fascist.

Once you know a game has gone woke, you *know* that quality has been de-prioritized. It's such a reliable indicator, that evidence of wokeness is basically a good enough reason to ignore a game.

Lots of people mentioning the woke part of the game and missing the main issue, the game is ridiculously easy to the point that it's hardly worth playing.
Can anybody tell me how they are supposed to innovate with this franchise? Would we stop bitching if Far Cry 7 was a side scrolling, turn based, massively multiplayer, beat em up, with 16 bit graphics? What do we want Far Cry to be? I have no idea but I do know what it’s always been. A sure thing. I’ve been turning my brain off and shooting things since FC2. As much as it’s all the same, somehow I have enjoyed them all, even New Dawn. Nobody else does Far Cry better than Far Cry in my opinion. This franchise is a product like Coke or Lays. You have your fill and wait for the next similarly tasting flavour.
Yeah wasn't too hyped about this one honestly. Series has been getting progressively worse since Farcry 3 because Ubisoft keeps introducing features that struggle to compliment eachother. All they need to do is have the tattoo perk visual from 3, the grapple hook/gliding suit combo from 4 and the rarity system/base takeover system from new dawn and boom you've got a great game. They're too fucking stupid to figure that out though.

And they got rid of the map editor. Far cry 5s map community got really in depth and came up with complex and crazy fun missions. Hopefully they can mod it to keep the community alive. Personally it's the only major long term sustainable replay value the game had.

I had Far Cry 3 back in the day and it was brilliant and ...really difficult even on the lower settings, it's a shame it's gone down this route and morphed into a CoD type cinematic button masher.
They got so lazy with the villains as the series went on, imagining them sitting in a writing room like "who should the villain be?" one guy is like "what about Gus from Breaking Bad?" "Like Gus from Breaking Bad?" "Nah not like, 'the' Gus from Breaking Bad" "ok sure whatever, it's about lunchtime anyways let's get sushi."

I was playing MMOs with 24 man raids where every class had 5-7 rows of hotkeys half just for the damage rotations and the rest for utility, items, long cooldown abilities and passive buffs recasts
I was driving and flying around in warzones that had warships, bombers, fighters, jeeps, tanks, AA guns, sensible base layouts and 32-64 players all having fun while blowing things apart from modest ranges (no quickscope or pixel perfect cross-map instakills in sight)
I was sneaking around space stations, feudal towns/houses, city alleys and secret bases while being actively afraid of discovery by the Ai set to interesting patrol routes and moderately sensible AI.
i was conquering planets one hex at a time while desperately trying to avoid mindworms or raising sprite armies to siege fully 3d castles in realtime.
and that's but a fraction of what was.

Yep, I've taken a hard stance on mtx. If I see them and it's not an MMO, it's an INSTANT no-buy. Although Ubisoft already disqualified themselves with forcing this onto Uplay too. Fuck Uplay.

@@Supadrumma441 Exactly!
@@youareasock9752 Maybe "Woke" isn't the perfect term to describe all Ubisoft characters. But as Mac said, the characters in this game don't fit. And I believe that these types of characters is a common trend for Ubisoft games.
By the way, as a former Infantryman I can verify that there aren't many purple haired war fighters.
That's just my opinion.
The thing that pisses me off the most is clearing out camps or bases cause you go 30 feet one way and then back and enemies have just randomly appeared again.
