    As a naturopathic doctor, I often get asked about tryptophan and 5-HTP. Which one is better and what are the differences? Here’s what you need to know:
    👉 Tryptophan is an amino acid found in protein-rich foods like turkey, chicken, and eggs, and is converted into 5-HTP, which is then converted into serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that helps regulate mood, sleep, and appetite. Tryptophan can also be converted down a different pathway called the kynurenin pathway, especially in those with higher levels of inflammation. Keep in mind that tryptophan also competes against other amino acids for transport across the blood brain barrier.
    👉 5-HTP is a supplement that is a direct precursor to serotonin and can help with depression, anxiety, and insomnia. 5-HTP can readily cross the blood brain barrier without competition from other amino acids. 5-HTP turns into serotonin at a higher rate than tryptophan, so there is a risk of depleting dopamine. This is because the same enzyme is used to convert L-dopa into dopamine that is used to convert 5-HTP into serotonin.
    Tryptophan and 5-HTP both have their place, but it depends on the unique needs of the individual and their medical history to determine which one, if any is best.

    Its better to take 5htp with L-tyrosine together. Why? Because to keep balanced dopamine, with just 5htp l-dopa will low down

    Thanks for the info doctor. You just left out one tiny detail... TRYTOPHAN ALSO GETS CONVERTED INTO MELATONIN.

    5HTP is Miracle treatment of OCD and depression but still you need other amino acids to balance all together, It fights infections as well , Help you on your appetite and every single process on your body !

      @@justmadeit2 Don't take it on empty stomach or very late on the night!! Change the brand , For the first couple of weeks you might experience nausea then your body will adapt with that !! If it took longer you can cut it and replace it with cardamom and ashwagandha ! For nausea always take some ginger and mint and cardamom grounded with your food, Small amount is amazing!
      Keep your intake of green tea and café for your brain health ✅✅
      5HTP I can't totally fault because it helped me recover from cancer among of very strict advanced treatments

    I read an article that a doctor from Portugal wrote. She's stating that she thinks the tryptophan to 5-HTP process to turn it into serotonin isn't working in fibromyalgia patients would taking 5-HTP help this?

      Google search researches in insomniacs and tryptophan use , I use to have panic attacks at night and tryptophan calms me down and helps me sleep very easily .

    That was very useful information thank you! What enzyme is used to convert 5-htp into seratonin and L-Dopa into Dopamine? Is there a way to supplement that to avoid hitting a deficiency?

      There are capsuels of 5htp 200 mg and 20 mg tryptophan and 20 mg sam e. By the studies, that's the best option.
      Only thing not sure if studies are paid like most of them lol

      What does taking them all together do for you? I have fibromyalgia and really need help. Exhausted and feeling sick every morning for 2-3 hours. Then I feel better but it happens everyday. 😌

      Take tryptophan instead. The body will have an easier time regulating its conversion to 5 HTP before shuttling the latter into the serotonergic pathway. 5 HTP should only be used as a short term mood booster. Tryptophan can be taken safely long term.

      GABA doesn't pass the BBB. From what I've heard you need to get GABA by consuming Cava. It's spendy and a pain to prep, but worth it, I hear.

      Kava is dangerous for the liver by the way.

      From my experience, it increases sleep and reduces anxiety and depression. The root cause of depression is lacking the right nutrition. I highly recommend listening to Dr berg. He is spot on and has an answer to everything. I wish you a successful path out of depression as it is a symptom not a disease. There is no need to take dangerous drugs ( even though most physicians said it’s safe. It’s actually will damage the good receptors in the brain). Fix the gut health, lower carb and sugar, no alcohol and caffeine , sleep, exercise and depression will go away.

      Yes. Take 5-HTP 50mg in the afternoon and 50mg 45 minutes before bedtime. Go like that for three weeks. if you don't see improvement in three weeks, then take 100 mg in the afternoon and 50 mg 45 minutes before bedtime

      Talk to your Doctor. You need to be careful not to overdo the serotonin because serotonin syndrome can be lethal
