    5htp is one of the most popular and best natural antidepressant supplements. In this video Dr Janelle Sinclair discusses the most effective 5-htp dosage for depression. She provides very practical information such as what is 5-htp, why take 5 htp for depression, how much 5 htp for depression, 5-htp drug interactions, 5-htp risks and side-effects, as well as 5-htp contraindications.
    There is a right way to take 5-htp. How much 5 htp to take? How much 5 htp should I take? Dr Janelle will answer these questions and tell you about 5-htp how to take it, what time of the day to take it, and whether to take 5-htp with or without food? 5-htp for depression dosages need to be started low and increased slowly to avoid side-effects. Dr Janelle gives you all the details.
    If you find that 5-htp isn't right for you Dr Janelle suggests that you learn more about biological causes of depression.

      @@jon79jw61 there are mood supplements on the market that combine 5htp and l-theanine, usually for anxiety. I'm not sure that 5htp would be the best product for focus and energy. Maybe do some research into l-tyrosine. But we're all difference, so you could just start on a low dose and see how it affects you

      great video, I just discovered 5htp and feel good effects for anxiety and depression, I turned to it because I had to wait 3 weeks to see my doctor to get back on citalopram, so I tried this in the mean time and am happy to stick with it instead of citalopram, I like that I can just buy it instead of having to go through the inadequate health system here in the UK. I've been on citalopram 3 times, and every time the doctor ended up weaning me off again because I felt normal again, but then a few months later I'd need to go back on it, and that on off process felt depressing in itself as a concept. Anyway my question is, in your opinion is 5htp generally suitable for long term use? Or do you think it will cause the brain to produce less serotonin at some point, or build a tolerance to it. Thanks.

    • @alanpartridge8253
      @alanpartridge8253 5 років тому +3

      @@DrJanelleSinclair Ah I've just seen that you've already answered that. "Unfortunately there's no long term studies on 5-HTP. It's shown to be safe in studies for 1 year." And someone else found it pooped out eventually for them. I guess it's a temporary solution and life improvements can be made with the extra boost it gives you.

      @@DrJanelleSinclair Some important points not mentioned in this presentation;
      Tryptophan is an amino acid, therefore it competes for absorption with other proteins.
      This is why it is advised to take on an empty stomach, and not at meal times! (you can also take with a small amount of carbohydrate, piece of apple, a cracker, to also aid absorption) It is also advisable only to take once a day in the evening when the natural serotonin / melatonin cycle is active.
      Also, it is very important to also take L-Tyrosine (amino acid) 500-1000mg (empty stomach) once daily in the morning for the length of time you supplement with 5-htp. Serotonin and Dopamine are on the same axis, that is, if you increase one, you force down the other, which can cause all sorts of unwanted effects and delay relief from depression.

I went to the store yesterday and noticed when I got to the car I was absolutely unconcerned about anybody at all. I was able to stand in line and all that was on my mind was what I was going to do later for dinner when I’d normally be antsy to get the hell out of there. I also have insomnia and take 50 mg of Benadryl to get to sleep. I slept and only woke up twice when I usually wake up about once every hour and had a dream where I laughed myself awake. I haven’t had any dreams like that since I was a kid. I will definitely keep 5htp around.

    My dr. Recommended it years ago. I stayed on for a year or so then came off. I restarted it a few months ago and enjoy the way it stabilizes my mood, gives me energy, and helps with appetite suppressant. I would definitely recommend it and its best to pick the one for your body. Walgreens is where i purchase it from (nature made brand/100mg). No complaints so far😊.

    I’ve been on Cymbalta for over 8 years and my anxiety has been getting worse the last couple. I started weaning off it very slowly one year ago, I’ve been down to approx 10 mg daily (had to break capsules open) yesterday I decided enough is enough. This morning I not taken Cymbalta and instead I have taken my first 100mg cap of 5-HTP. I’m going to try 100mg twice a day for a couple of weeks and see how I go. I’ve tried in the past to stop Cymbalta at this point without any thing else and after a few days I’ve gone back to it. But this time with 5-HTP and the support of family I hope I can be successful. I want my life back, Cymbalta has taken too many years and cause too much pain and sadness. Thank you for this video Dr Janelle 🙏🏻

I started taking 5htp after starting a journey into psychedelics I read that a mental depression crash could happen from a loss of serotonin from the use of LSD or mushrooms. Is it possible to take the daily dose at once like antidepressants ? example for anxiety 100 or 200 mg/ day ? Considering to include 5 http as option for patients with very low income, who could afford a dosage of 100 - 200 mg daily. Thanks! Amazing video.

If anything, I'm a bit too chill and calm. Also I find I only need to take it once per day. FYI I also take SAM-e 800 mg at the same time with no ill effects. They work on the same pathways in the body so it's not normally recommended to take them together. If one doesn't work, try a higher dose (in the safe range) or look for something else to help that works in a different way. Because I've heard with prescribed anti-depressants, if you plan on coming off them, you're not supposed to come off them suddenly, as it could greatly impact your mood, and you should very gradually come off them? Although, I haven't heard many cases in people coming off anti-depressants, but more like increasing their doses more and more...

    • @ralfwashington1502
      @ralfwashington1502 3 роки тому +3

      1st I'm not a doctor so this is NOT medical advice. From what I read you shouldn't take it for longer than 3 weeks or your body will notice the increased levels and slow down its natural production. So 3 weeks on 1 week off and repeat if necessary. From the limited research done they aren't sure long term effects but early tests show it might cause bone density issues with long term use.
      My doctor told me to wear a heavy backpack or a weighted vest (think weight room weighted vest) and walk around for a while each day to load up my bones and maintain it. He said you need the weight over your shoulders evenly so your skeletal structure all has a slight load on it then walk with good posture.
      I find excercise in general naturally lifts my mood and I rarely need my 5htp. I did a blood test and found my vitamin D level was extremely low so I take a supplement for that which also helps my mood. I try to cut out lots of carbs from my diet too since sugar (carbs turn into sugar in the body) naturally helps cancer grow and is as addictive as some illicit street drugs.
      Pretty much take 1 week off a month and break a good sweat working out jogging pushups ect (if your doctor says it's safe) and eat clean food going low carb but high healthy fats and proteins or keto diet. Get your 8-9hr of sleep and make sure you aren't deficient in vitamins especially vitamin D.
