Dear Dr. Mandell, I took extra magnesium last night in order to sleep better, but unfortunately awoke up from sciatica pain in my leg
Because I had carried a heavy object, yesterday afternoon. I will try it again tonight because I do not sleep enough hours, as I should. Thank you for all your advice. I follow almost everything and I try to eat only what is good for me. Thank God I discovered your videos.

I started taking magnesium threonate after taking Glycinate for about 6 months. Just wanted to see if i noticed a difference. Not too much. I think I’ll go back to the Glycinate because it’s supposed to help with a lot of issues. Maybe I’ll take both. I do notice a difference as long as I’m not too wound up.

Magnesium complex knocks me on my arse. But, if I ever find myself needing it for sleep, I'm confident it'll do the trick in a pinch
I just watched another youtube video in which the author was saying all magnesiums are catabolic, meaning, "marked by or promoting metabolic activity concerned with the breakdown of complex molecules (such as proteins or lipids) and the release of energy within the organism", so maybe if you are taking magnesium at night before bed and still can't sleep, this might be why. Try taking your magnesium in the morning, see if it helps.

DOC!!! I'm a side sleeper. 54 years old. I had to have surgery 15 years ago on my left shoulder, because I've spent so many nights sleeping on my left side. Now my hip is starting the same pain. HELP!!!

Do you have any tips for RLS by chance?
Hopefully he will answer, but I very occasionally get RLS, usually after a day of extra exertion (I run). I find the mag has reduced the frequency to almost none. my main issue was cramps, but i assume if it relaxes the muscles and gets rid of the cramps, there is some impact on RLS, now I speak strictly for myself, that's been my experience. I also practice yoga and that may have some benefit.

Supplements are such a slippery slope. You're basically a human guinea pig. Better to find it in whole food sources.

Started two days ago. For the past year I’ve been waking up feeling insanely tense. The past two nights haven’t been perfect but they have been btr.
It took me nearly 3 years to realize this. I am able to fall asleep quickly now and stay asleep.

Thank you Dr. I needed this reminder. Right now I’m having difficulty in sleeping. I’m over tired and yet if I fall asleep , I’m wide awake within minutes. It’s terrible. I also bought otc melatonin but I’m not so keen to take it. Somehow I’m fighting against myself to remain awake. It’s some sort of curse, I think.
Melatonin works but gives me a horrid headache.
I know this feeling and melatonin did nothing for me. Mag did the trick, so does a gentle restorative form of yoga, called yin yoga. It will calm and center you, it works on body and brain and calms tense muscles. Yoga with Bird, she has some amazing gentle sessions.
Try a parasite cleanse. You'd be surprised how many issues come from that. Insomnia like you're describing is one of them

I feel you, same thing happened to me before burnout, tired but still having issues sleeping. I may add this supplement on top of the Bromantane i'm taking from nextchems. DO NOT TAKE MAGNESIUM OR LTHEANINE If you have any PTSD from war or really traumatic past. These supplements force rem sleep and make your dreams really vivid. For a normal person this is perfect. But if you have ptsd from death or war, you will have the worst dreams. All the ptsd comes back in vivid dreams. I wake in middle of night from the worst flash back ptsd dreams.
Dr. Mandell I have osteoporosis and I have been taking 300mg of magnesium citrate in a bowl of oatmeal two hours prior before bedtime. I also have Achalasia so I have to open up the capsules and pour it into the oatmeal and mix it up. I not only sleep better but magnesium citrate helps build bone density. 😊
is it bad for me to take this. I dont have a medical issues but i strggle to sleep and i bought these yumi gummies for sleep, they contain magnesium:550mg and 85mg of magnesium citrate per serving. I hear from this video the good things, but are there any downsides and is this bad for me?

No miraculous hype, please. Magnesium, whatever type, can never have statistically significant effect, especially with those who already suffer from insomnia, e.g. due to anxiety. Motivationadoc please don't underestimate the problem of insomnia, giving the illusion of solving it with a magic pill of Mg glycinate. And if, on the other hand, you are targeting an audience that does not suffer from insomnia, quality food (such as beans, almonds, plain rice and all kinds of green leafy vegetables) already provides all the magnesium we desire, without wasting money on buying magnesium supplements. Am I wrong?

Yes, I think responses can vary depending on the individual. Though Magnesium Glycinate helped me with sleep, the recommended dose gave me diarrhea so i cut it in half
When I tried magnesium glycinate it caused me severe itching all over my body after just one dose, so I had to stop it immediately.

Sadly it would really help in the comments if folks would let us know what brand and specific dosage they take. Also helpful would be how old you are, male/female, weight, other health conditions, why are you taking it, any results, etc. We're not all sheep. Some like to do research and get a little bit more of an understanding of its benefits or to make more informed decisions. That being said: I just started taking Magnesium. Does that help anyone? I've been taking magnesium for a few years now, I started to take it due to severe leg cramps at night, I would wake up frequently in pain. Taking mag quickly dispensed with the cramps, and my sleep quality, partly due to no cramps, vastly improved. It's the only supplement I take in the evening to help with sleep. Is every night perfect? no, but overall, so much better.

There's a few different types of Magnesium, which is the best for sleep?
I take either citrate or glyconate. I don't find any difference in the efficacy, but everyone is different. The only one I avoid is oxide, its a good laxitive tho. Of course, all mag has that effect to some extent, you know you are taking too much if you get diarrhea.
Try dr best chelated + vitamins B complex together. It rocks

Does it make your blood sugar crash?
Citrate is trash for sleep and does nothing for it, so that's a placebo affect. Glycinate and threonate are the forms you need for better sleep.

I take magnesium supplement for 3 years, became different person and regret that I did not discovered it before. Mind you that you need to try different brands and types. Not all of them work well. Try also together with vitamin B complex. It works even better. Good stuff.

@@jenealeverett2269 2 years I took one pill before bed, 1 year I took one in a morning and one before bed. Reason of increase is that last year solar activity is very high. I am sensitive to magnetic storms. Not sure if I am addicted but when I stop taking I become old me ( tight muscles and easily startled person) same day.
