Great pick David! Thank you. I don’t have the physical LP anymore (it was Chicago XI) but if memory serves, the liner notes for this song were hinting at Terry’s solo project. Something like “if you like this, keep an eye out for more.” If anyone has the liner notes please post them. 🙏😁This album also had the first released recording of his “Mississippi Delta City Blues” so Terry was definitely being prepped for a solo album. I think Chicago XI was released n the fall of 1977. Then tragedy struck in January 1978.

You recently did Mississippi Delta City Blues which was also from this album, the last Chicago album featuring Terry Kath. This is probably my favorite off this album, but by no means the only one worth hearing.

This was Chicago XI, the last album of the Terry Kath Era and the last Chicago album with James William Guercio as their producer.
XI's release was on September 12, 1977 and JWG was fired after that but before the accidental death of Terry Kath on January 23 1978.

Hello all, this was from Chicago XI. This was the last album released where Terry Kath recorded. There's one song, Little One, that is absolutely amazing. You'll need to hear it, but his bluesy deep voice is amazing on that cut. The last time I saw Chicago with Terry was in Houston in October 1977. I actually wrote a Chicago concert review for the Rice Thresher (Rice University student paper) and it included a group shot on the front page. I'll look for it. How I miss Terry's voice. RIP Terry Kath

Why is this song not played on classic rock radio... This guy is so underrated....There are so many more great songs that John Q Public has NO CLUE about. As many Zappa songs as you do, you should do just as many Chicago songs...They are Criminally underrated

This was the last song Terry Kath wrote. While a prolific songwriter, it is pity that almost none of his music ever caught on with the general public. Even the classic "Introduction" is little-known (despite the fact the group plays it to start their live shows).

You did react to a much later released bonus track on a wood Chicago V CD. that was not the final version that was recorded on Chicago XI (City map). That was "Missouri Delta City Blues". I suggest you listen to the one on Chicago XI. Why, you ask? Because it shows the progression of their song writing and arranging. From fairly scattered and incoherent on the bonus track to tight and logical on the official track. Of course, you don't need to do a reaction video on it, but I would be interested on your take of the comparison.

@@jeankutzer1556 I you referring to "Uptown" or "Mississippi Delta City Blues"? Either way I have no idea when it's original concept was written. In several interviews especially when Robert Lamm talks about recording he has said they go back to old songs or old song concepts he wrote and reworks them before they would be chosen for their album at the time. They did the same thing for their latest album for several songs.

And to think Baby What a Big Surprise was the hit single off Chicago XI... I think the Big Surprise would've been on the people who bought Chicago XI on the strength of the Peter Cetera ballad (his only writing contribution on this album). And, as other people commented on, the best version of Mississippi Delta Blues is on Chicago XI - much better than the dirge-like demo track you reacted to (which is a recent bonus track addition to Chicago V).
I don't think you guys have touched Chicago X (Chocolate Bar Chicago) yet... great album... a real mixture of song styles (including If You Leave Me Now) and two TK songs that bookend the album.

@@SightAfterDark Cool! I saw that tour for my one and only Chicago concert on New Year’s Eve 1971 in Las Vegas Nevada. I was 19. It will be interesting to see what they chose. Fun fact the cd added the songs that didn’t make the 4 lp box set. There’s a great movie about Terry’s Daughter searching for his lost guitar called The Terry Kath Experience highly recommended and I think it’s still on Netflix.
