One of Terry's best vocal deliveries.

This was Leonid Vorobyev's favorite song. On his 50th birthday, he decided to get some friends together and play and record this on UA-cam. Afterward, they decided to continue making recordings/videos of Chicago songs. They sre known as "Leonid & Friends", a Russian band. They have recorded about 30 Chicago songs and a few other bands, as well and a few of their own. They have toured the U.S. about 6 times, including, at the present time. They are a tribute band, sounding just like the original songs, or even better !!!

For me, this Terry Kath vocal is along the lines of "Colour My World" and the slightly faster tempo "Byblos" from Chicago VII, which has a soulful vocal and guitar blend. I have to see if you have done Byblos yet. If not, please consider it. Terry wrote that one. Nice additional keyboard by David "Hawk" Wolinski on Mellotron.

Love you two for reacting to these Chicago deep cuts. I love this song from childhood. 45 years later and still love it as much!

Wow! Nice Chicago deep cut. Oh Thank You Great Spirit is another interesting tune on Chicago VIII, and it is quite different from what the band usually does.

Glad you enjoyed it. There is definitely some great vocal moments for Chicago after Terry’s passing. Bill Champlin joined the band for Chicago 16 and was already a Grammy award winning songwriter (Turn Your Love Around for George Benson and After the Love is Gone for Earth, Wind & Fire) and much sought-after session vocalist. Very bluesy (too much so for some Chicago fans) and a great compliment to Peter on Chicago 16 & 17). Hard Habit to Break from Chicago 17 is a great example of their vocals complementing each other in a “call and response” way. I may suggest that via Patreon later. Champlin stayed with the band and was an able vocal replacement for Terry for more than 25 years. In fact, Look Away from Chicago 19 was the #1 record of the YEAR in 1989 according to Billboard. Champlin sang lead on that and many other singles from Chicago 18, 19 and 21.

Absolutely hated Champlin - his voice is NOTHING like Terry's - but no one was EVER going to fill his shoes, least of all Champlain - like nails on a chalkboard - could never listen to the band when he got in - bad, bad choice - also, if they sold more albums, it would be to new fans, the old fans, over time lost interest...

I Didn't Like The Way Bill Did The Songs Terry Use To Do, Or The Background Keyboards To Roberts Piano On Saturday In The Park!! Drives Me 🤪!! I Don't Think Robert Needed Help From Bill!!

My wife of 27 years passed away in September 2012 after a long kidney disease took her. While driving to Houston from Virginia on a trip in November that year to visit my younger two sons, I listened to this cut and had a meltdown in my car. We had separated earlier in the year and to this day I regret that I left her when she needed me most. When I listen to this cut it reminds me of that experience and I still choke up.

Bless you, Henry. We all make mistakes. We all have regrets. And though we can't change the things we've done, we CAN try to improve. It may help your healing if you try to improve each day in some small way, to honor her memory. For what it's worth, I speak from experience.

Ohhh...Colour My World....is what you guys were discussing and it was written by James Pankow!!! Terry on vocals and Walt on flute. I played and sang this song to my wife when we renewed our vows!

  • @timthompson1695

Yes! Back to right side of the Roman Numerals. Okay, so, yes, as people have already said, a James Pankow composition. Dan, you said that Terry had a Randy Newman tone, but he's often been compared to Ray Charles... and I think this song is a perfect example. As for live performances, a lot leave much to be desired, just because of the quality of the recording, but here are a couple of exceptions: Live at Tanglewood in 1970 - you can see the whole concert (wait to you see TKs solo on 25 or 6 to 4 and you won't be disappointed by the harmonies) and the other is a TV special (which was something to do with Dick Clark I think) Chicago at the Caribou Ranch (which lasts for just over half an hour, and features the guys doing their own stuff as well as collaborating with Al Green on 'Tired of Being Alone'). I agree with the Byblos suggestion (and all the other pre-Hot Streets tracks you're yet to cover). Great work, guys. Cheers, Tim.

Easily one of Pankow's 10 best songs, and perhaps even in his top 5. And the live version killed back in 1975!

I kinda feel like if you don’t instantly recognize that this is without question a James Pankow tune-as was Color My World- that you just haven’t heard enough Jimmy Pankow tunes. Robert Lamm is the heart of this band for sure, but Jimmy Pankow wrote some of their all time most amazing songs.

    • @SightAfterDark

From this album please, please, please react to Oh Thank You Great Spirit. Terry tributes Hendrix in his mind blowing coda. Cetera's and Seraphine's accompinements are nonpareil. It has a Pink Floyd vibe to begin then morphs to Terry, Terry, Terry.
