Gary Numan needs to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 40 years of influencing the music we listen to today, and still writing fresh brilliant new music! Nobody deserves it more! Another amazing song, can't wait for the album!
I interviewed Gary after a Manchester gig in the early eighties for local radio. He was polite, generous and decent which made the job so much easier than I was used to. Since then I have been in his camp and so pleased to see him still out there. He is a proud dad, a talented pilot, a humble man and a groundbreaking British musician. He gets my vote.
how is he not? He has got the best tools available, expérience, great skills, and internet fans, new and old. He IS litteraly getting more recognition now, bit he has always been amazing and recognizable.
"Unique" is empty praise for me, too close in meaning to stigmatised descriptions of difference, distanced without owning it or coming into the space, and quite possibly a bit patronising or euphemistic, often it's both! But that's my experience as a late diagnosed autistic! I shudder & cringe at the word! Demanding conformity is evil - and could affect me and my children. I suppose there's some value there in such praise but then is reinforcing relative uniqueness as against a norm all that different!? Just the flipside or precursor of it not an alternative universe!? You're better to talk about the creative process or how the artistry or the topic makes you feel, what's shared between artist and audience, for me.
Trademark Numan. He must be one of the few artists to have successfully moved on from the eighties. He has such a huge catalogue of fine music that he’s written and recorded, post eighties. It’s really a tonic to see him play such a diverse range of music at concerts from every decade since the days of tubeway army upto present day. I love this track. Gary, has an amazing nack of pulling out ace cards with obsessively addictive choruses! Brilliant!!
@@LisaEllenPearce no, ALL of it sounds very similar. Gotta love it, all “these” belting anthemic choruses, but it is pretty much 2 or 3 belting anthemic choruses repeated ad infinitum over the last couple of decades. Which is a LONG time to be repeating the same formula....

I was never into the electro pop side of Gary Numan. I celebrated his more NIN inspired stuff from pure onwards. You could always tell allot of what Gary was doing late 80’s to early 90’s was the sound of a man trying to please an ill informed industry and a paradigm shift in music appreciation all at once and lost himself in the process. I think when he hit that dark gothic industrial metal sound, it truly resonated with allot of his personal struggles he’s been particularly vocal about since his resurgence into the mainstream eye with Savage. Dead son Rising Gary onward is like a fucking well oiled machine...efficient, economical and deadly. He has definitely influenced me as a multi instrumentalist along with artists such as Trent Reznor, Chris Hall etc hooking up with Ade Fenton, becoming friends with Trent and seeking solace in the wise words of his wife has led him to where he deserves to be. He got there, took the scenic route and the proof is in this heavy, dark but catchy as fuck track. This intruder album is another slam dunk for one of Britain’s truly unsung musical hero’s

Lyrics
Can you see your fallen God?
He's standing next to me, far from home
Can you hear your broken promises?
I am what you've been waiting for
Can you feel your righteous anger?
It's like a poison that feeds the soul
Can you hide from saints and liars
When every word is the death of me?
And this is who you are
And this is who you are
And this is who you are
And this is who you are
Can you break your crumbling idols?
And push the pieces into the sea
Can I trust you to keep a secret?
I have laughed in the face of God
And this is who you are
And this is who you are
And this is who you are
And this is who you are
