Holy shit. Did that actually happen?
Kinda off-topic. We used to have a music store over here in the UK that put all of Nine Inch Nails' music under nu-metal... Come on. When The Fragile came out they classed them as "nu-metal Gods"... People really don't have a fucking clue at times. I think the were called MVC, Music, Video, Cassette. Lasted as long as a rancid fart in the wind.
As for Gary Numan, I saw him play in Southampton last year. Easily one of the best shows that I've ever seen live! Really looking forward to Intruder, and catching him live again. This guy is relentless. Strength to strength.
I don't know if you've heard of Jayce Lewis? If not, I highly recommend.

True story. I was near the entrance to Disneyland in Calfornia, the evening of Sat. Dec. 23, 2022. And I saw him with his wife and oldest daughter. I recognized him, and called his name. His wife turned around and then he did. And it blew me away. I was lucky enough to chat with him for a few minutes and took three selfies. I remember asking his daughter if she knew how cool he was. She had headphones on and Gary said "She is probably listening to my music". Super nice guy and humble too. It made my year, as I am a big fan of his. First saw him in the 1980'sl, and 3 times in the last 6 or 7 years. He is a pioneer in the field of electronic music and very underrated and under-appreciated. He should be in the Rock Hall of Fame, but those a-holes have about a 20 year backlog to catch up on. Happy New Years to all music lovers out there!

I'm honestly really impressed by this. A lot of old artists hang onto their old sound, trying to remake their 70s or 80s sound when they don't have the strength or voice. Instead, Gary Numan has embraced modern electronic music and made something that sounds brand new.

Interviewer: Do you feel detached from the music you made early on in your career?
Numan: A little bit, yes. I do. I can’t imagine how you would feel connected to something you wrote 35, 40 years ago. Even if you’d had a fairly boring life, age alone would make you feel like a different person. The only connection that remains is what those songs did for you, how they thread through your career.
From a creative or emotional point of view, they’re like the vaguest of memories. You listen to these songs, which were essentially teenage tantrums, and it’s difficult to relate to the angst that bothered you then. It’s like looking back at old film of you as a kid: it’s nearly always embarrassing.

I feel that. Even when I found e mails or message I wrote to someone 10 or 20 years ago, I feel like it was someone else and ask myself how is it possible I wrote that, bad or good. With regard to us, as public, fans or just consumers of any art it's different, we always connect for example, some song to some event or feeling, not all, but lot of music we listen after decades, it means feeling was strong ( feels~good~man )

Why does Gary bother to play these songs live anymore, then? Because they are the building blocks that have made him the truly great artist that he is today, and indeed has always been. Songs such as Cars, She's Got Claws etc. define him, and they cannot be dismissed as juvenile attempts at songwriting - right from Down In The Park, Are 'Friends' Electric? etc., he created a brand-new sound of incredible depth and maturity, and though of course he has moved on from those early years, those songs sound as fresh and full of unique imagery as they ever did and remain as testament to his great and highly original songwriting skills, in my humble opinion. Let The Machines rock!!

Even now whilst his career is well and truly on track his music does nothing for me, all just sounds the same to me. He is obviously doing something he likes, and lots of fans clearly like it, but I imagine theres a fair few of us from the 80's that cant relate to his current style. This is the sh** that legends do. If you know anything about Gary, he is one of the most sensitive and humble person/celebrities active today. He wouldn’t want to be labeled a legend, but he is, and always will be. Say what you will about his music and craft, but as a human being, he’s a beautiful person. Persia is amazingly beautiful as well and fills her role absolutely perfectly. Chris Corner, IMAX, as usual brings his stunning sensibilities to the 'Numan vision'. Chris could turn a speck of dust into a full feature film. See you in SF in November.

Meisodem: Funnily enough, "c£$t" is exactly the same word that Numan used to describe the late, great Mick Karn (multi instrumentalist from the band Japan and solo artist) who played and starred on Numan's Dance album! Is that the kind of language that "beautiful" persons use?! Unless you know Mr Webb personally - and perhaps you do? - then I suggest that you are in no position to say with any degree of certainty whether he is a genuinely "beautiful person" or not. I will concede however that he does come across as a consistently amiable chap but then few celebrities wish to appear to be complete c£$ts, even when that is exactly what they are.

@@Heliocentric It depended, my grandparents were kids in the 20's and 30's but they were kind of cool, so I heard a lot of very cool stuff I'd have never heard, old Nina Simone works, Jazz standards from the era and the shit you'd hear in old bootleg liquor establishments. My one sister on the other hand was born in '72 and listened to the most boring pop crap you could imagine, and gospel...like Amy Grant...there's badass music from every era, and there's absolute crap in every era, for every one person listening to Numan, Skinny Puppy, The Future Sound of London, Violator era Depeche Mode and Einstürzende Neubauten there were 500 drooling over the likes of Tiffany or other such bubblegum pop shit...
The real trick? Finding the people, of any era, who had their ear to the ground and liked what wasn't playing on the top 40's stations...that includes today, there's so much amazing, kickass music today it's breathtaking...you just don't hear it in the Billboard hot 100...actually, it's the foreign market I've been really listening to lately...Japan, the Ukraine and so on...stuff like Ningen Isu, Jinjer, Asterism, 88kasyo junrei, Unleash The Archers and so on are all just fucking epic

Heard Gary interviewed and he talked about this song. It's from a novel he's been working on. In a post-apocalyptic "Mad Max" world someone finds a fragment of a book called "The Bible", but I guess they only find the nasty bits because they use it to start a violent cult. When they kidnap a man's daughter he goes on a quest to find her, and becomes increasingly cruel and violent in his attempt to save her. By the time he does reach her he realizes he's no longer qualified to be her father.
    I'd read it.

You're a religious person. Otherwise, you'd see the myths for what they are. And you wouldn't say something as silly as "Gary is working for the enemy." Which presumes you also believe in a devil.
