Took me a while to notice your reply, sorry. As a kid i just went for it on skates without any pads, now I'm old and scared of obstacles: kerbs, cracks, hills, rocks etc. I have outdoor wheels but have very little experience off the flat courts. Help! 😚
@@zonarium4320 There is a difference skating stance when skating outdoors. How you transfer your body weight is a bit different too. Stay tuned. Video coming soon.
M'am, Thank you for always reminding skaters to set realistic expectations, take things slow, and not to give up when it's tough. You are such a motivation & inspiration to myself & soooooooooo many skaters from all different experience levels.
Baby steps. I started less than two years ago on inlines. What I do is work on a couple of different skills per session - ones that are close to my ability level at the time. As I get decent at them, I add something new to the mix that is once again close to my ability level. As you skate more, you get better, too - better balance, muscle memorization and so on. It becomes second-nature the more you skate / practice. = )

Who gives a rats ass how old you are, I'm 28 and I've never stepped foot in skates until now. Be the fun adult, let em laugh, Are you having fun? Great!
Also, like... what helped me was understanding that the braking action comes from resistance of the skate wheels being forced forward and sideways at the same time. So if I just sit after getting low & booty bump, and my heels don't try to push out then I'm gonna keep rolling without resistance.

Nice video. Like when you say sit I was a little lost, but then I am just learning to plow in a rink. What helped me was to take my skates off and do plows in just my socks. This helped me get a little technique especially with single leg plows.

Hello Deborah! Thank you for the thorough explanation. What wheels would you recommend for practicing the plow stops outdoors on concrete or asphalt? I am having trouble with traction and creating that "screeching" noise on my outdoor wheels. For reference I am skating on the Suregrip Broadwalk skates with the stock outdoor wheels.

Aghhh having such a hard time stopping as I skate I just got my skates and am practicing outside. Usually just crash into my car because of the speed. How do you stop whine going pretty fast? Plow and te stops don’t help and i usually skid during a t stop

I want to learn to roller skate but I live where there are so many big hills and people. I afraid I might bump into people or even like ride on hill to fast to were I can't stop. Do u have advice?
Hello Deborah, I'm very new to this and while i feel quite in control indoors, what I found a bit scary outdoors is being on a street that has even the slightest inclination. What kind of stop do you recommend for those cases? ps. thanks for your videos, the way you explain every detail makes everything seems possible!

Myrtle Beach, SC sounds nice :) This style of stopping will have you gliding to a controlled stop. Much like when your press your break in a car. As you get better control, you can bring yourself to a more direct stop.
what about going downhill? i just started going down the slightest hill and its so scary and I just keep using the curb to stop because when I bend i gain speed

Why does my lower back hurt when I skate?
Focus on breathing and your posture. Most of the pain comes from being too tense. That usually comes from being anxious about skating in the first place. So make sure to watch a few of my other video where I go over posture.
@@Dirtydeborahharry okay. Thank you. I went looking and didn't see them. Ill look again.
Does this technique work even when going fast?
Hello Dirty, I want outside yesterday for the first time with my skates and couldn't stop. When I practiced at home, it was easy, but in a slightly downhill road, it didn't work. Any advice? Thanks
Watch my downhill videos and all of my outdoors videos. I address this very thing.
@@Dirtydeborahharry Thanks, I am working on it.
