      Or you could get a job at one doing the floor, fixing skates, cleaning up, running snack bar, racking skates. Ask me how I know? :)

      I don't like to have the rink to myself. I love it when it's packed. An old, excellent skater told me when I was young, "kid the best skaters, skate the best in traffic". It took me awhile to be able to understand that. It's reacting to other skaters moves. Also, when a newer skater tells me that they will never be able to do that, I say, Yes You Can. If I can do it, anyone can do it. In fact, you will do it better than me! Don't give up! Keep practicing! Whatever I Can Do, You Can Do Better! Just keep working at it and keep practicing. Everything I learned, I had to pay the skating God's with my bruises. Lol

      @EllaaRosee 4 роки тому

      I have, with friends before. I think it’s funny tho cause I’m 12 and when you have to pay to get in there’s a sign that says kids under 15 have to be with an adult but they let me in lmao

      @Jimbo Baggans I mean yes but it's really hard to have to learn in a huge crowd since most rinks don't have a practice area

    I'm winning the lotto, buying a GIANT screen tv (projector?...something) for my local rink, and playing this on loop! SO many kids...SO many fast skaters...and I think - other than the guards - only about 12 of us (all of us rank rats) knew how to stop! It was dangerous out there tonight. I hate winter. They've hit capacity a few times (650) last winter. I think I'm done skating Saturday nights again until spring. (None of the little brats listen, either.) Now....I have to go to bed. Session starts at 1 tomorrow afternoon. :)

    Love this so much! Could you please do a video on three turns? I had a dream last night (because I literally have roller skating dreams) that I could do all kinds of one-footed turns easily, and you’re my beat bet for making this a waking reality.😀🙏

      When you get a three turn down, then start doing it on the other skate as well. To the inside and to the outside, left and right, on either skate. It's strange how going one direction is always easier than the other direction. When you find one way harder than the other, do the harder side or direction more.

    Debbie you are such a great instructor!! It's because your not the least bit arrogant or aloof. You make learning something fun. That it's ok to goof up. To just keep practicing and you will get it! People at the rink want me to teach them some things but I tell them to pull you up on their computer and watch you. They will learn far more from you than they will from me. You have a way of explaining things that I only wish I could do.

    when i was younger, around 7 years ago, i always used to go skating with my grandma. she was the one who taught me, but it’s been years since she’s taken me. i go maybe once every few months now, after a long time of not going, but probably less. now, though, i’d gone two times in two weeks, and it’s so nice. i’ve been wanting to improve now that i’ve gotten the ease i used to have back, but let me tell you, i can only do a few basic things like crossovers and stopping by dragging your toe stop behind you. i’m going again tomorrow, and your videos have been helping me so much!! i can’t wait to try!

    I am very new to this, and I just ordered a pair of skates two days ago. While I wait for them to arrive, I have been looking for info and then I met your channel. I'm just amazed by the whole skating thing and I really appreciate what you do for us newbies. I used to skate back in the day when I was a teenager (I'm 40 now) and I remember I could at least move without falling. But now I see and understand there are many techniques and maneuvers not only to rolling skate properly, but also to avoid getting hurt... which I think it's more important. I REALLY appreciate your videos, I don't know if you have an actual school with real classes, but I would totally attend if I just lived in the States... (I'm from Costa Rica). I just subscribed to your channel and I'll keep on watching, liking and sharing. This newfound hobbie (for me) is just great and it has a lot of 80's vibe (for which I lose my mind over). I can't wait to start rolling! Thanks for sharing all this valuable info !

    Thank you for your videos!!
    It’s been 20 years since I’ve been on skates but was always my happy place as a kid!
    I say I’m 52 but feel 25 while skating!!
    I had spine surgery 2 years ago & now am able to do all the things I haven’t been able to do! I took life for granted before! NOT ANYMORE! Skating outdoors is a whole different ballgame! As you have to engage your quads & core a lot! Everything outdoors is harder! I’m working hard at stopping going forward! It’s my focus and my struggle! I can turn around really fast going one direction!
    The T stop has me really confused! The back skate is supposed to be on the inside or the outside wheels? If it’s the outside, it seems impossible! Sorry for the long message!
    I really appreciate your directions & encouragement!!

    Thank you so much for doing videos. I just started skating again after 35 year. I am addicted to your videos. First off, you frickin' crack me up and are so relatable. Your instruction is spot on and simple. When I need to practice a new move, the first thing I look up are your videos. They truly are the best instructional videos and your personality makes them extra special. The little tips you sprinkle throughout them are exactly what I want to know. I wonder if you do condensed training/lessons. In other words, I live in SOFLO but would come to CA to do a few days training session (like roller skating bootcamp I guess) if you ever offered something like that? I figure I'm on the beginner/intermediate line of the skill spectrum and would love to spend a few days fast tracking moves and such that I can take away and then practice on my own. Anyway, thank you for everything you do!

    Great prep talk. It does feel like a lifetime Journey, but next year this time I'll skate with ease. I feel like skating is more about hips managing weight transisions, 'cause I' m bulky. I'm skating mostly outdoor. Pliiiz Dirty show how to manage with Hills. So far I go up on toes and down in shoes. Greatings From Poznań, Poland

    Hey Deb.... Love your enthusiasm and style, you are very unique and individual... I don't skate much indoors now day's but I've adapted and modified your style to outdoor flow skating / urban skate. I've come such a long way now - i have a super juiced high speed stop, i can fully transition both feet [ 'goofy foot transfer"] took me a while though, my acceleration now is out of this world and i can clear 4 step's both up and down... I'm certainly not, or was not a natural skater but through sheer determination and repetition my passion has translated into my love for skating... I've made outdoor quad skating my thing so to speak. My "stacks"are simply epic too lol, butt slammed mother earth the other day my ass rang the bell in Antarctica... Keep up the awesome work Deb, we love your Tutorials..

    Mawning!🤗 looking stylish & youthful as usual.
    😂🤣 Perfect timing I needed this.
    I am glad to say I am back 😁. I fell outside in a public area with out proper body padding ( I could not stop 🤦🏿‍♀️ ) and had to recover my knee and wrist. Practicing indoors on smooth surface is a lot different from outside. What can I say, I was over zealous 🤷🏿‍♀️.
    I received my protective body gear last week. I am ready to begin again. 👍🏿 for the analogies, concepts & tips. Yup, that's me. I watched the video 🤣😂. Be sure to have an amazing day! #MoreSuccess for you. Thank one for sharing.

    I needed to show my sister how to stop by using my method which is using the stopper (I forgot the name of it) My big sis has a slow speed so I needed to show her how to stop if a random kid skates very fast next to her and she jumps alot when that happens and she gets very paranoid about that. So I guide her at her speed but I don't know how she actually matched my speed. So now I need to teach her how to stop in 2 ways. Ty for this.

    Okay so here's a question for ya. As a beginner skater, I'm getting advice from all different sources, and sometimes it's contradictory, and it's hard to tell how much of the differences are maybe that individual's experience, or stylistic differences (between say artistic and derby and park), or maybe just incorrect bad advice. Could you maybe do a video on comparing different skating styles/disciplines and whether the skills and moves are transferable or if there are things that really need to be learned differently?

    I love so much your videos!!! You explain in such a clear and fun way!! I'm learning to roller skate and this channel is basically the number 1 source of knowledge to achieve it ❤ I've had an injury in my back and I'm still in treatment (too long treatment) and I've lost a lot of muscle strength so im trying to developing it again with roller skating!! I try to put my roller skates almost every day, 15 min at least (I can't stand more than 30 minutes but im.improving!) I have some doubts, I was been practicing this stop with your video close to the beach, and didn't get it on the rollers, I wasn't able to identify where my weight was, neither when trying scissors, so I decided to loose the trucks to gain flexibility and now I can identify my edges but I still don't know, a too tight truck can anable you tu turn?? Or is just that I need more practice? (that I need it jajajaja) and related with this is if it's possible that a looser truck will provide more roll?? I'm still and I roll without doing anything, its bizarre jajajaj, but possible?? Or its just on my mind? Or something else? because I've thinking to tight those trucks but I don't know if that will be a pulling back on my learning curve. This is a too long comment and even if you can't answer it I want just thank you for the enthusiasm, empathy, hope, love and lots of fun you share. Good vibes for you!!

So i am back here to figure out what i did wrong :D thanks for all the explanations!
    edit: it seems that english is just not my thing

      You did nothing wrong. Slowing down outside before stopping is exactly what you want to do. You should always have your mind on your surroundings and controlling your speed with scissors or bubbles. You should come to a rolling stop just like in a car. Your English is perfect.

    Thanks for your great videos! As a beginner learning how to the different stops e.g. T stop and plow stop as well as transitioning into backwards skating, is it important to be able to do this with both feet and in both directions? As in, do you usually have a stronger leg like soccer players or should the goal be that both are equally good? Thanks a lot!

      Everyone has their own style of skating. I agree with Debbie. Develope your own style. Like, learn a move from someone then make it your own by throwing something else into it. It works for me and I bet it works for you.

    Deb, thanks for these great videos! Do you think this type of stopping is bad for people with bad knees? (I've had ACL and meniscus tears, etc.) Pushing pressure on the knees in this fashion (knees getting closer to each with feet further out) makes me a bit nervous. What do you think?

    Hi Deborah, thanks again for another helpful and entertaining video. I can plow stop indoors and on ice but I find it tricky to do outdoors. The textured surfaces feel a bit grippy and I worry that I’ll get caught and be injured. Do you have any recommendations for plowing outdoors?

    @9:55 Although I am no where near nothing like you and the other greats-Estrojen, Kim Manning, Snowflake, Candice etc etc etc Since I started moxiskatedaily, I did not think skating backwards, spinning, dancing and hitting the notes on my skates was anywhere close within my reach. When i skated backwards i would stop and it was not continous. Part of it was a rough road in front of my house, the rocks breaking through the road's pavement a little bit. But I kept doing and everyday I did moxi skate daily, i worked on it. Finally I can see the tricks within my reach. 288 days of practicing. After I discovered straddle split spin, my standing up spins really got better. Several years ago I saw an audition for dancing on skates, michael Jacksons thriller dance routine is what they wanted I said well i had been in dancing all my life and been rollerskating all my life, but quickly found I had to do some more work. I looked up some how to's and found estrojen then all of yall. I watched the tutorials, and found out it takes practice to get that message to feet connection. I have a question. At skating rinks, does the employees break in the new skates before renting them out? Does the employees have to break in the skates within a very limited time frame? If so what are the tricks they use, that has to be uncomfortable when someone has to break in skates hours a day. Do you have an oven for skates and does that make break ins easier and less painful?

    • @Dirtydeborahharry
      @Dirtydeborahharry  5 років тому

      So happy for you and congratulations! Thank you for watching. I really appreciate it. To answer your questions, rentals get broken in by customer use. We are open 7 days/nights a week so they get broken in quite quickly.

      I had to break-in my reidel silver star boots. They were a bear to break-in! The leather was like wood! I'm going for a bit more pliable boot next time.

    Greetings from chilly Chicago, DDH!
    I played competitive ice hockey for 33 years (old-timer, here ... LOL). 🙈 I’m thinking about trying roller skating. You were originally a figure skater, so I’m wondering how the transition would be. Is a hockey stop possible, on roller skates (the push-out you describe is pretty much half of it)?
    Finally, you are both a FANTABULOUS skater and instructor ... thanks for all these awesome (and quite addictive) videos!! 😍

    • @Dirtydeborahharry
      @Dirtydeborahharry  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Skater! Hockey players, in my opinion, are the BEST skaters. The ability to cut both directions, stop on a dime, move forward and back equally well etc. The training in hockey is supreme! A hockey stop in roller skating is just highly dependent on the compound of the wheel versus the surface of the floor. As long as that wheel has some slide to it, it can be done!

    Is plow stop essentially trying to skate a backwards lemon while you're still skating forwards (without picking your feet up).

    Can u talk about beginners knee pain if that’s a thing because my right knee makes crackling noises when I bend it and my knees feel stiff. Is this something that will go away. I just started skating again but as a 34 year old. I skated when I was in elementary. But I love skating and have been about 8 times this year since I started

      Although it says at the top that Deb's skates are the Stardust. But this is incorrect. I'm guessing they are a Sure-Grip 73 or 93 Boot with a Power-Trac plate. Perhaps DDH can confirm or correct me.
