I dream of the day that I look a fraction as cool on skates on this.😀 My last practice I kept saying, “Down with the butt, up with the gut” over and over as I tried to do that cruising move. You’ve made me hyper aware of my snack area, too. These videos are all gold! Could you please do a tutorial in the future on 3 turns?

@@Dirtydeborahharry Thank you! I'm looking forward to practicing the double toe stop here but currently have exactly the kind of toe stop you warned against. I think my new skates will arrive in April, and they will have proper adjustable toe stops. Another series of videos I would love at some point is tips on skate maintenance and how to's: how to rotate wheels, take out bearings and clean/lube them or whatever we need to do, adjust toe stops, etc. That way your channel could be one-stop shopping for me. :)

Dirty School of Skate For the last month I’ve been skating on Candi Girls, which have a pretty much useless plastic toe stop. I can safely stop by sliding one toe stop back but not both.😮 Riedell is making me a pair of custom Moxi Jackboots (purple!), and they will be a whole new experience, not the least because of indoor wheels along with proper toe stops.

@@Dirtydeborahharry I'm loving your videos! I just got a pair of Sure Grip Boardwalks with 70 route wheels and I thought they were pretty good skates. (200 bucks). Now I"m sad because they have a non-adjustable toe stop :(
Does this mean they are not good skates?

Am I the only one who is addicted to the sound of wheels on the rink? Who needs music? LOL We NEED stops at my rink. We do a "Topsy Turvey" skate...go around as normal, guard blows the whistle, we stop, turn around, go in the opposite direction....etc. for a whole song. It's SO much fun. One of the few fun things the rink does. My daughter was hilarious last time...she runs jam plugs on her skates...stopping fast and turning around...PRICELESS! LOL I love the double toe stop when going backwards, but I've seen SO many snapped ankles when rolling forward and using stops because people panic and "hit the brakes hard" instead of easing into it. :( I refuse to use them when going forward. I prefer the T-stop when rolling forward....besides, it's fun to hear the wheels "skid" across the rink floor!!! (P.S. Is it Saturday yet????? LOL My girls and I got new skate t-shirts this week...can't wait to wear them!)

I was bit nervous putting the skates on again in my 40s so started watching your videos, to be honest I have done very well and I have even had other dad's asking me for tips. I say get on you tube and get the same advice I did by using your videos. Can I ask tho I now have my own skates but! I am needing some advice on wheels I am from Scotland in uk and skate stoped are not so common any tips on purchasing wheels?

Would you do a video on the different types of skates beginner intermediate and advanced. Include boot styles, plate styles, wheel styles with benefits and advantages/disadvantages of the type.
I just had a skate built I wanted a low boot without velcro because velcro wears out over time. And I got a plate with a 45* avenger plate. And found that the maneuverability was amazing but there was no one describing or demonstrating the advantages just describing them. But I still have questions about things like cushions, tuning the skate, bearing benefits, how wheel hardness effects the ride etc.

    Question about toe stop drag!
A friend if mine (derby, trail skating etc) told me that I should never toe stop drag cuz I'll break my ankle..... I don't rink skate (only one rink in Oregon 😔) so I am out in trails etc most of the time. Is toe stop drag an acceptable stop on outdoor terrain? I feel like it's considered a very beginner or faux pax move..... But sometimes a turnaround toe stop is too scary or plow stop isn't fast enough. Thoughts?

I love your videos, I just got new skates and have been watching and practicing as much as I can. I have a quick question, is there anything I can do with new skates to soften the two stop a little? The stops are super stick so when I try a to stop I either stop too quick and fall on my face or one foot stops dead and the other keeps going and end up in the splits 😬
How can I use my toe stops better?

  • @TheSchmuck01
    @TheSchmuck01 3 роки тому

It's getting really frustrating how many roller derby players are going around telling everyone to never ever use the toe stop drag when moving forwards. And it doesn't matter how many champion artistic skaters tell them otherwise, they are adamant that it is always dangerous and won't believe that it's possible to drag a toestop safely in the rink!

@@Dirtydeborahharry LOL! The matter of fact. I live in Bangkok. And the Priests here are the Thai Monks. They are NOT allowed to have fun:( Too bad for them:( I bought my pair of roller skate in Delaware, in 2006. And it was resided in my shipping box, until then:) Don't worry! I have no intention to over do it. I want to live until I am in very late 90's and enjoy the roller skating. I might state on my will to have them put my roller skate in my coffin too:)

In the States, the of the roller skate rinks were counter-clock wind. So I have a hard time to make a right turn!!! I can easily do the cross-over for the life turn. Any solution for that? Thanks:)

@@Dirtydeborahharry Hi Dirty School of Skate; . I have a question for you:) In Thailand here, we don't have many Roller Skate rinks. If there is one, it would be for kids roller blades skate and the rink is very small. . I use quad roller skate. So I have to go for roller skate on the bumpy road( full with pot holes ). . Are there any suggestion of how to roller skating on such the road surface and sometimes with the traffic for an senior citizen? . " Old roller never die, he just keeps on rolling " Thanks in advance. Sam

My daughter and I are skating partners. I have always wished someone would take my place. Maybe her new husband is a skater. I hope so. I may have to retire in a few years, I ain't getting no younger ya know! We shall see. I will skate as long as I can and hope he takes my place.

Anyone saying toe stops are useless doesn’t know what they’re talking about, plenty of people like myself out there who can skate well but not skate amazingly, stopping the only way you know how so as to avoid plowing into someone else at the rink or on the street or any other given situation where stopping will avoid injury to yourself or others, if the toe stopper is the only way you know how then it’s one of the most important things to know/learn/use.
