I like to save the end pieces of bread loaves, put them in a large ziploc bag and store in the freezer! Once I have a good amount of them saved up I make my bread crumbs! 😊
I’ve just found you & I’m so pleased. I had initially put breadcrumbs down on my shopping list & decided they were far too expensive for what they are so came onto UA-cam & here you are. Thank you for showing how to do homemade breadcrumbs as from now on, that’s how I’ll be doing mine. I’ve just subscribed & look forward to catching up on your older recipes.
Same with me! You need them for fried chicken, cheese balls, etc.. I was going to buy some but now I don't have to beacuse I can just make them! Thank you soooo much!💕😊

Oh i just love the word 'Freezer'. I'm always looking for new things to save and put in there. Now i know what i'm gonna do with the rest of my 'leftover' bread😁
My granny had a fish and chip restaurant, a open tin on top of her stove and she tossed every slice or bun up there 2 dry them out and it was my job to bash them into fine crumbs for her fried sole. I do the same 2 this day then freeze and use when needed. When I get 2 much I give as Christmas gifts.
My mum use to put the slices of bread in the oven first to dry out..., then crush them in a hand grinder (like the type used for mince meat) The crumbs were then stored in a screw top large jar in the cupboard for months and we never had any problems with them going off or stale.
This video came into my life like about two weeks late. 😂 I got this idea in my head and tried it out but the crumbs were huge. Still, it worked tho. Thanks for the recipe, Gemma. Next time I'll get it better I hope.
I was just up thinking about a recipe I was wanting to do soon but was wondering how In the heck am I gonna get my hands on some breadcrumbs (needed for the recipe) since I’m a stay at home mom & my husband will not go to the grocery store unless it’s our grocery shopping day, I thought I was outta luck until next Friday when we go shopping. This is such a life savor because I do have bread & a blender Thanks so much!
I'm gonna try this with multigrain bread. All those little bits of grains and seeds in there will add an additional nice, slightly earth-y texture to my dish 😋
why would no one tell me about this. i never thought i could make bread crumbs at home.. now i am never ever gonna use store bought bread crumbs. thankyou so much for this
In Sri Lanka, we sun dry the bread slices for a few hours (until hard and crispy) and then crush them up using a mortar and pestle... Well this might be helpful if u dont have an oven...and/or a food processor😊
Gemma, thank you so much for this breadcrumb recipe, it looks so easy! But may i ask, why do we keep them in the freezer for 4 week? And should i put the breadcrumbs in a ziplock bag? Or put it in a bowl exposed to the cold air?

Hi Jasmine. You can store fresh breadcrumbs in your fridge for up to 1 week. You can store dried breadcrumbs in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks in the cupboard or up to 4 months in the freezer. Here's the recipe www.biggerbolderbaking.com/how-to-make-breadcrumbs/
In my house, we cut the sides off our sandwiches and save the sides for making bread crumbs. We let the sides dry out in the sun and then we crumble it but this recipe looks way more easy - thank you gemma
Hi Gemma thanks for all your effort your recipes are delicious and so easy to make. I was wondering if you could make a trifle without the fruit, but with sponge or lady fingers and home made custard. I would like to see how you do yours. 👍💖

coffee grinder works for this too, just make sure you shake the grinder to keep the bread moving and don't grind for longer than around 10 seconds so you don't fry your grinder.
Hi, Gina! I always season them when I use them in dishes. If you wish to give it a try, you can process bread until you get crumbs then add salt or other seasoning bit by bit to your taste. Add melted butter until you get a wet sand texture then bake. Hope this is of help!
