This Safety Razor Is NOT for Beginners (Timeless Razors First Impressions)

- The Timeless Open Comb Bronze safety razor is the perfect tool for a close, smooth shave. Made with high-quality materials, this razor is durable and built to last. The open comb design provides maximum efficiency, making it ideal for those with thick or stubborn hair. The bronze finish not only adds a touch of sophistication, but also ensures the razor will age gracefully over time.
While a safety razor may take a bit more skill and patience to master than a cartridge razor, the end result is worth it. With consistent use, you'll see an improvement in the appearance of your skin, as well as a reduction in ingrown hairs and razor burn. The Timeless Safety Razor is designed to give you a close, comfortable shave, while also reducing the amount of plastic waste in your bathroom.
However, it's important to note that a safety razor requires a different technique than you may be used to. Make sure to use slow, steady strokes and hold the razor at a 30-degree angle for optimal results. And, as with any sharp object, be cautious when handling the razor to avoid any accidental nicks or cuts.
In conclusion, the Timeless Open Comb Bronze safety razor is an excellent investment for anyone looking for a high-quality, sustainable, and eco-friendly shaving option. With a little bit of patience and practice, you'll be able to achieve the perfect shave every time.

Hey Greg, first time here. How do you compare the efficiency of this razor to that of a straight razor?
I have used the timeless titanium.95 oc and their slim .5 oc. I love them both but if i had to pick one, it will be the .5 slim oc.
No one does oc like the way timeless does! And their machining is just impeccable. My .5 slim oc is a wire cut edm product which never ceases to amaze me every single time i pick it up!
I am thinking about getting the bronze base plate since all their baseplates are compatible with all of their top caps and handles (which is an awesome thing they have done!) Will more likely get one from their s&d section or maybe a used one from badger and blade
I love the Timeless .68. It’s a nice, mild shave. Very easy to use.
Great!
How is it against the grain?
I’ve tried every single Timeless razor with the singular exception of the Slim, and all of them would’ve required substantial changes to my shaving habits to make them work. My mileage did not vary 😅. Great video Greg, take care now!
Thanks for watching, Ben. When we were talking the other day I think I mentioned I was waiting for one. Every shave after the first one has been better!
@@GregTardif Glad to hear it! Hopefully it sticks around in your den for a while.
@@GregTardif I’m with Ben on this one. The only Timeless I have is the ALU version. It’s a beautiful razor, with a very small blade gap, but I find it’s a bit too aggressive for me (especially on my neck). Maybe it’s the positive blade exposure… Anyway, I don’t reach for it much. Cheers. 👍🪒
Thanks buddy. I love danger lol
The Timeless Ti.68 to me has to be in the conversation for best ever shaver I’ve tried. And it’s a stunning beauty on top of it 🤘
I shaved with couple Timeless razors.. their aluminum and the Ti95. Aluminum was an okay shaver and felt a little rough. The Ti95 SB is a wonderful shaver with great balance of efficiency and comfort.
Thanks Tim! Titanium is such a cool metal
I've got three Timeless razors. The Ti, the Aluminum and the Bronze.
Just had my second go with the Bronze and a Feather blade and I've gotta say it provides a really smooth comfortable shave. I've been wetshaving with DEs for 13 years now and moving to Timeless feels like a huge jump in the quality of my shaves.
I love my Timeless Bronze! The open comb is a beast and smooth at the same time. I also have the other closed comb plate which is too mild for me. Not scary. One of my top 3 is the Timeless Titanium .95OC/Scalloped dual head. OMG! I shaved my head yesterday with the Bronze OC.
You’re an inspiration to us all! The dual head sounds awesome! Thanks for sharing.
@@GregTardif The dual head on the Titanium is awesome! The Bronze OC is .78 and the bronze smooth is .38. PM me if you would like to try the .38. I'll send it to you.
im considering getting the titanium .95 OC. You really think its that good?
@@GrandmasterHobbyist The .95 dual comb is the way to go. Yes, it is the best of both worlds and worth the money.
Wow , thanks for the heads up. It gives me something to think about. Great video. Have a great day and smooth shaves
Thanks! Hope you have a great day too
The more razors you check out, the more I realize we have similar tastes. I was on the cusp of getting the Timeless last fall but the Prospector Fatboy bumped it.
Those prospector fat boys look amazing!
A happy user for over 3 years, just got 2 new plates with different angles to try.
I've had one for a while now with 2 plates, and yes it's a beautiful & top notch crafted. I love mine too.
I’ve got the 0.68mm and 0.95mm stainless heads. I made the mistake of getting the Ti spiral handle because it looks fantastic and I love titanium- but couldn’t justify full titanium. The heads are so heavy - 44g that the balance was terrible. I ended up putting the handle on the stainless Vector head which looks and feels super nice. I use the Era handle with the Timeless heads and it fixes the balance.
Anyway, the 0.68mm is the go for a mild shave with the 0.95mm relegated to occasions of 1 week of growth. Blades are Nacet. Feathers are too sharp on them.
Thanks for sharing Chris! You got a good selection of items from them! Glad you found a home for the Ti handle
Oh good I'll slap my Era handle on the timeless .68 scalloped bar razor head I got on the way. My Era razor top cap thread snapped on me
@@Gotobecrazy I can’t discern the condescending even one iota
My Timeless Bronze is by far the best looking razor in my collection; however, it spends much of its time on the shelf. Although super efficient, it requires too much attention to be a daily driver. When I use it every day for a couple of weeks it starts to feel more natural but those first few days are bloody.
This is the only Timeless I have and it was unexpectedly aggressive. I have other open combs and this takes the cake. I feel I have to be so careful with it I don’t use it much, and I’m not a shrinking violet when it comes to bladefeel. I might be sending mine along soon.
Yeah, I definitely have to take my time if I have used another razor for a period of time and then go back to this one.
I use this razor exclusively. It shaves like a straight razor. However, there is a learning curve to using it. This razor when I use it I keep the handle parallel to the surface of my skin. If you angle it like a normal razor you will cut yourself especially at the neck. Hope that helps. I love this razor.
Great review Greg !
Looking forward to your next video.
All the best.
Thank you!
I use the Timeless SB68 regularly. The alternate plate I have for it is the OC95 which will mow down a weeks worth of whiskers with no struggle at all. Mine is polished SS. When it comes to alternate metals, I prefer brass. But that's just me. YMMV and all that jazz. Speaking of YMMV, my Henson stays for...........well, you know. 😉
Haha thanks for watching Carl. That 95 sounds frightening!
I disagree. I learned how to wet shave with the Timeless bronze .38. I think it is a great razor for beginners precisely because it is not a razor to be messed with. It teaches beginners to shave with a light touch or else) I have no regrets using it as my first wet shaving razor.
Ok
I went with Ti from the get go.. Open comb in .68 and .98 and solid bar in the. 68. And various top caps. My preference has been the .68 I prefer to be a 3 pass shaver. I'll float between the open and closed plates depending on my mood and growth. But overall efficient without being too heavy. Which is where I struggle with the rex ambassador sometimes. Timeless is my usual daily driver.
Lately I have been reaching for my mergress (moded merker progress).
Thanks Sam! Is the mergress the one that has the knob switched from plastic to metal?
Exactly, I Think the knob is also calibrated slightly to line up with a 0 reading when screwing the blade in. Not sure if they're made anymore but I always found that shorter/stubby for factor worked for me.
@@Stompyrok yeah! Very intriguing.
Glad you did this video, like I said in your sotd picture, this razor has always cut me up… maybe I need to do only 1 or 2 passes max instead of that 3rd pass and go easier on the pressure. Definitely the nicest razor I’ve seen though. Beautifully built, just need to take it easier!
Yup! Just need to take your time and relax. 🥰
I've had it for years. Love it.
I did not have a good experience with timeless razors. I ended up with a bloody mess. Being from Ohio, I wanted to like the razor. I just couldn't get a great shave out of it. I did purchase the aluminum version and that may have been part of my issues with timeless razors.
Do they say aluminium in Ohio or aluminum?
@@GregTardif That's mean
@@OhioShaves 😘
Thank you for the review and another razor to add to my bucket list. With its color and shape, that razor looks like a sacred object found in a Pharaoh's tomb. .
That’s a nice way to look at it for sure! I think you’re right
I like the .38 closed comb. The Open comb is too aggressive for daily shaves.
One pass maybe.
Hi Greg. I have a razor for you to review, the Bevel razor. I got one of these about a week ago and love it. My favorite razors have been my Gillette 1918 Open comb, and my 1912 Gem Open Comb but this one I carry in my pocket just in case. Try it I think you'll like it.
Nice quick review Greg. Good tool to have in the toolbox for 1 pass. Very nice looking. 🍻
I think of it as the definition of efficient
Hey Greg. I have a Timeless aluminum and, as much as I want to love it because it’s so beautiful, it’s not for me. I don’t give up easily and really gave it a solid try but it’s not meant to be. Even still, I also like it more than those damn Henson razors (ha!). Thanks for sharing your impressions. Have a great day!
Lol sorry Eric! Is the aluminum fairly light?
@@GregTardif it is light but has a different feel than the typical lightweight aluminum razor because the handle is so thick. Different enough to be interesting and probably works well for lots of people. Such a quality product.
nice, i was waiting on this after seeing your post abt receiving it! it looks awesome, im seriously considering pulling the trigger on the titanium one!
Nice! So far a few people have shared their live for their titanium one
@@GregTardif yeah I did watch two of them so far. But people's opinions vary so widely its hard to know.
Nice review 👍🏼it is a very well manufactured (but not breathtaking expensive) and efficient razor. On top of that it’s also very beautiful.
Generally I think TL makes wonderful razors. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My first go with them. I imagine it won’t be the last
The Timeless razors look really nice and I’ve been seriously looking at getting one… After seeing your take on them I think I’ll stick with more autopilot razors like the Karve Overlander. Other than the Charcoal Goods Everyday razors (which are sadly now out of business) I have yet to find another razor that can shave ATG as close and nick free. Would love to see you review the Overlander.
Thanks Greg, you just saved me some serious $$$$$ !!!
One of these days I should. All I hear is how good the overlander is. I like the challenge of this razor and the attention to detail I need in order to get a good shave. I still enjoy the autopilot razors as well. Glad I could help you make a decision one way or the other 👍
@@GregTardif Thanks…. I love the Overlander so much that after having the Aluminum version which is fantastic, I went ahead and ordered the SS version last week. I’m going to send that one off to have the top cap & safety bar mirror polished, because I’m crazy like that and also since I’m not a fan of bead blast finishes. If you’re not into spending that kind of money just stick with the aluminum version, as it is super smooth on the top cap and the glide is really nice, and better yet it’s only $88.00 USD which is probably why it’s been sold out lately. The brass is a great deal too at only $93.00. Cheers!
You have choosen the most blade forward and perhaps the most aggresive Timeless razor... she needs a shallow shaving angle, a super light touch and a sharp blade. Feathers are a good match.
But I agree, I wouldn't consider this beauty a beginner's razor either...
It’s so good! Nice overcorrection from the hensons I have haha
@@GregTardif 🤣
I would like to hear your comparison of this to the Muhle R41. Lol Henson commercials too non-stop!
They do make nice looking razors.
Some would say…timeless even 😂
@@GregTardif yes, I could see that hahaha.
Greg, I have the Timeless Aluminium, which I won a few years ago. I almost never use it due to it being a) so bloody efficient, and b) due to my inability to consistently get the angle right.
I wish I could make it work, as it is a crying shame to not use it.
Ohio Shaves was just mentioning the aluminum version being a tough one for him too. I’m not sure what the weight is on that but this thing is a hefty boy!
@@GregTardif the aluminium one is light, but not featherweight. A tad lighter than a short handled DE89, I would say.
That’s a sweet looking razor and I like them heavy. But I don’t like aggressive. My R-41 just sits on my shelf. 😢
They do have lower blade exposure models and bar combs.
Timeless .95 Scalloped in Titanium. The perfect razor!
🤤
Hi Greg you Master of great review 👍 and so short. 👏👏👏
Thanks so much! I like to get in and get our :)
Is it efficient or is it just rough? Like I love the r41 and yaqi beast. However the yaqi knights helmet or the ikon tech are just rough for no reason which doesnt correlate with efficiency.
This is efficient and smooth
I have a question: is that bronze? 😂 I have the titanium and it would not shave very well. It skipped over all kinds of stubble.
Yeah it’s bronze! Weird that it didn’t work out for ya. One pass that’s all for me
@@GregTardif the bronze is a different geometry head than the titanium I got.
@@lawrence1md okie dokie! Thanks!! Should we do a swap some day?
@@GregTardif I no longer have my titanium one, I sent it back to timeless
@@lawrence1md so never mind then haha
Great looking razor!
Beautiful stuff
I not a fan of the razor. Butt, you made a convincing plug for the stand.
I love you!!!
So Greg 129 Grams is heavy, how do you manage it?
I will pass on this monster.
I’m really quite strong 😂😂
How does this razor compare to the Yates 921-H?
I don’t like the high plate
@@GregTardif thanks! Is the h-plate more aggressive than the .78 OC on the timeless, or just different in a way that you don't like?
@@isaacchapman not sure. Haven’t used the heavy plate in a long time. Sorry
I didn't like my Timeless razor, and found it to be very rough. It seemed like the machining was off, and felt jagged. Not a good feature with an aggressive razor. I called their company about some general questions and concerns, and the guy I spoke with was a total jerk. I won't buy anymore of their products or recommend them.
Sorry you had that experience Steve. How long ago was that? When it comes to small businesses a lot of the decisions people make to shop again will typically be the customer service
How does the aggressiveness compare to the Alpha Outlaw?
I have both, this is more aggressive than the outlaw and not as smooth.
Yeah timeless is more aggressive. I can see why vegan green said not as smooth. I find it very smooth unless I get a little lazy with technique if that makes sense
@@GregTardif Makes perfect sense. The Outlaw is not smooth for me unless I pay attention to what I’m doing. If i make an effort to shave properly with it, it’s a great, smooth razor.
You used yours today right?
@@GregTardif Just saw this. Yep, used it yesterday. Was going to tag Alpha, but he’s apparently been banned from Twitter. Big surprise.
My first safety razor was a Timeless Titanium and I bought the kit, added handles and bases as needed, so that I could make three different razors🤷🏼♂️ Yeah, I went all in🤦🏻♂️
Why, because I have 3 sons, and I wanted each of them to have Dad’s very first safety razor. I have the Slim, the .68 and .95.. varying plate iterations (scallop, CC, OC).
I then bought the Twigs and Thorns for my boys to get them into shaving like this.
All three continue the hobby and they have each purchased some sort of a DE.
What’s in it for me? When I’m gone, I very much doubt that my sons won’t think of their Dad going Gonzo over wet Shaving and getting them to switch from the cartridge crazy. I have a collection now they they can spilt up and should be able to shave with a different DE on any given day🤣
Very thoughtful and nice way to introduce them to wet shaving! Kudos!!
for $185 dollars, it looks at least twice that price. double-assassin
I wonder how it compares to the R41?
No idea! I guess I should get one of those someday
@@GregTardif May buy just the head on Amazon. $25. Worth a try but then I say why!!!!
Just as aggressive if not more aggressive than the R41
Hey, I'm a FUTUR fan boy!!!
Gotta have a couple of them. 😂 I’m always happy and surprised when I hear about them. Thank you
Well my boy Greg why would I whip all that nice lather and then do a one pass only? Hmmmm?
Silly goose. Efficiency is over-rated. Beard reduction and a relaxing lengthy slow pleasant me-time self-care shave is the name of the game. Unless, you know, you're in kind of a hurry in which case heck yes grab that Timeless and get to work! 😜
Lol thanks Steve! I have been taking my time with this razor. One pass with this razor is about equal the time of two passes with a non aggressive monster like the Timeless. But I hear ya!
@@GregTardif That's a good point!
I love my hensen 🤷🏾♂️
Cool!
Don't leave the stand lying around. You might trip and fall over it.
And that's not for beginners either.
Haha! Don’t leave it on a chair huh?
This razor has the superpower to change your face I mean you look yonger after shaving with it, but if you not careful can even change your zodiac sign too 😲🤕😄
Lol! It’s got some super powers for sure!! Thanks for watching
I love my Henson razor. It gives me an incredible shave and I have sensitive skin. Perhaps your skill level is not up to par.
Sick burn
@@GregTardif What is “sick burn”?

@@GregTardif Nope. Just pulling your leg.
@@robertross8565 lol you got me!

@@GregTardif you really changed the video title? xd
@@bag2963 what do you mean?
