Just used a Rockwell 6c for the first time. Loaded with a corked Personna Comfort Coat using the R4 plate. Unbelievable shave. Easy to find the angle and very smooth.
I use the mercur 34c for a mild shave and I use the muhle R41 for an aggressive shave using Astra green blades for both. I never shave shave against the grain with a safety razor only with the grain and across, never against the grain. For the closest shave I use a Philips electric shaver the one with three rotating heads, you can get a very close shave with it. I have it about 7 years now and never had to replace the rotating blades. I enjoy shaving both ways and switch from time to time

I gotta agree, the Rockwell 6S is my favorite closed comb razor especially on plate R-4 I get a BBS shave on both my head and face! When it comes to opened combs I really like the Fatip grande, smooth and efficient and I get a one pass shave all the time with it! Great vid!
I've got Rockwell 6C and Muhle R41 with rose gold handle. Rockwell is an outstanding shaver. Works well with any blade. Mine is in gunmetal as well. What a beauty. It's heavy and well balanced. I'm using plate 6 and it's aggressive but in a good way. Muhle is more aggressive and you need more time to get use to it. Quite lightweight in comparison but great close shave. Got many other razors but these two are my favourite by far.
Thank you for this video. I'm a 68 male who grow up with safety razors and used the most of my life. Switched over to the gillete track III cartridge for many years until I realized finally how much it was costing. Decided to buy a Chieftain about 18 months ago which led to much bloodletting. Just wanted a shave not a self-sacrifice. Finally gave up on that after thinking what am I doing wrong but got the Rockwell 6c gunmetal. Several weeks now without contributing to any blood bank. I thought it was me and what am I doing wrong. I think it's Chieftain doing it wrong, thanks again for the video.
Thank you for the recommendation, I just got the Henson AL13 and used your discount code for free 100 blades! I'm looking forward to switching to the safety razor to get rid of my chronic razor burn
Great review, extremely useful, thank you. Got a Leaf twig and a Rockwell 6c. Rockwell is by far my favourite after I tried many other types of razors.
I love my Rockwell 6C too. It really is a game changer. In fact, I like it better than my (Razorock) Game Changer. 🙂 I have the gun metal finish as well. I've found that plate "4" works best for me with Gillette Nacet blade. But, as you stated, it works well with any blade I've tried so far.
@@OhioShaves Completely agree. I have 16 razors in my collection / rotation now but every time I use the 6C, I have a "wow" moment. If I could only keep one razor, it would have to be the 6C.
Great Video and PERFECT descriptions for each of those razors. I love the rockwell of course, 34c is also good, not a fan of my R41. I'd love to see you try slants, the Merkur 37c or even better the IKON X3. I think you would love both of those razors, especially the IKON x3 (not to be confused with the IKON B1 which is more aggressive). The 37c and X3 are SMOOTH and they will knock off heavy growth like hot knife through butter. I prefer the X3 because it's impossible to clog and gives BBS shaves every time. I head shave with both of them.
I just got a Merkur 34C as my first safety razor and had my first shave with it. You definitely have to have the right angle to get it to cut and it took me about twice as long as it does with the Gillette fusion cartridges, but I think I will get my process dialed in within a few shaves. I might look a more aggressive or adjustable razor handle though because my facial hair is on the thicker side, especially on my chin
@@OhioShaves thanks. I have some Astra Platinum and Gillette Platinums on the way so we'll see. Thanks for your vids, I'm trying to get away from spending so much on cartridges, and of course I want to be like my Grandpa 😛
Hi, sir. I have a Merkur 37C. I couldn't have been happier. The large top cap makes alignment so easy. I actually cut my skin at moustache area with the King C. Gillette - never with the Merkur. However since then, I took twice longer to prepare for preshave, though.
I don't get razor bumps or ingrown hairs very much anymore,. But when I do it seems to take me a long time to get rid of them. And I was wondering if there was a product out there that? Could get rid of them faster.

The thorn might but I don't have one. The Henson I look forward to trying. I'm getting one as soon as Geo Fatboy gets it here. Medium. Muhle R41 I want. Really need it for my neck. The T2SS has about cured my neck. Yay!! The Parker Variant will also. Turn it up to about 10 on my neck. I have used a lot of blades on all of them. Anything works on the Rockwell razors. The Parker likes Personna Comfort Coat. If I liked Feathers I'd use them more. Bic Chrome Platinum are about as sharp so I use those when needed. Nice blades and so sharp. YMMV.
I own over 20 DE razors, new and vintage. If I had to pick just one it would be the Rockwell 6c no doubt. That razor gives me a BBS every time. I use Personna Red, Personna Platinum, and Perma sharp blades.

@@tugboat8475 Thanks for the question! On my 6C, I prefer the Nacets, too. On the 34C I usually choose Perma-Sharp or Feather (if I feel bold that day…). I have the Rockwell 6C, and was enamored of it at first. Then the Vikings Blade Crusaders had me. I am loving the vintage Fat boy, Slim adj., Super 84, and Black Beauty razors now. They really are smooth! Even after 60 years.
I just gifted my Rockwell 6C to a friend to get him into the wet shaving game. Great razor to start out with, IMHO. Also, check out the Ohio Wet Shavers Meetup. We'd love to have you in October!
Rockwell 6C is awesome for the money although the rose gold plating on the #4 is worn off. It does cog easily if you aren't shaving every few days. I bought a Merkur Futur and I'm very disappointed. It's very top heavy and the ergonomics are lacking. It gets the job done with a lot of effort. I have to set it at #4 for a clean cut. Only thing it does well is wash clean easily. I set it at 2 and had to spend an hour shaving a week's worth of growth on my face and head. Also Merkur blades made in Czech Republic absolutely suck and the Feather in setting 4 is very aggressive and you need to be careful. The Rockwell is a sweet daily driver, autopilot and beginner razor. I ordered a Rex Ambassador XL in polished stainless and after waiting about a month, I requested a refund from my credit card (thank God I didn't use my debit card) from Razor Emporium after numerous attempts to contact customer service (a joke, read up reviews on them). It's too bad because that thing looks gorgeous. Anyway, I'm waiting on my Yates and my Blackbird now.
I think it may be interesting for you to try Muehle R89 head. It's a little bit more agressive then Merkur 34, but less agressive then R41. I have quite coarse hair and shaving my head with M.34 or M.46 (travel one, almost the same head) usually takes me for ages. I bought R41 head (separately, using for it a lever from M.46) to speed up process, but it turned out to be a torture tool for my head. Then i bought R89 head (also separately) and it turned out perfect for my head 👍 I think I'll stop on it for casual shaving in my journeys and next i'll look for something much more unique and expensive just for collection. And maybe i'll buy Rockwell 6c or 6s on your recommendation for my village house.
@@OhioShaves My Merkur 46 travel set with 2 Muehle's heads is just a piece of perfection now😂 It would be great if the 6c's heads also fit the handle of this set. I think it will fit.
What is your current favorite safety razor? I just bought the leaf razor but have trouble with it on my face due to its size and have cut my head a few times. I don't have issues with my Defender but don't get as close a shave as I would like, plus, cartridges are a pain. Would I be ok starting with the Thorn? Or should I go Mekur, Supply, or Henson?
I tried the Viking as well terrible , I just switched to safety razors this past week or two. Now using a Merkur 23C with feather blades. Trying Voskhod blades next week. I enjoy the feather blades but want to find something cheaper for long term.
@@OhioShaves great razors…just too much fiddling with parts to get the shave I want. Easier to just turn a knob. But shaving is a pretty personal experience, and we all have to figure out what works best for us. There are a lot of razors I haven’t tried. Now I found my personal favorite, the only other razors I’ll be buying are collectibles. Might even find a collectible that works better for me.
My problem is that i move around so much from different razors all the time. Might feel good about the Rockwell today then tomorrow not so much. Don’t know if it is my skin or what and this is always with the same blade in the razor. Thankfully there are so many different razors and at a good price too. I never plan on spending hundreds of dollars on one razor when i can have many different ones for the same price.
How about trying different DE razor blades. I don’t think you found the right blade for your face. You’re just going off what other people are telling you is good. You define the blade for your face. Also, I have a very expensive razor. makes a huge difference once you dial everything in. Don’t fret spending hundreds of dollars. Think about why that Razor exist and why is it so expensive. Cheap cheap inexpensive razors give you a cheap and expensive shave. This is just my experience trying to help a brother out.
I appreciate it man i watch alot of your videos and get alot of info from them. I pretty much like persona or astra blades most of the time is where i usually stay. The weird thing is today i like the Rockwell tomorrow i like the Muhle razor. Maybe i just like the variety i dont know. I also try different blades all the time too and always end up with persona or astra being my favorite. I go back and forth from different brushes too. I watch many other people with tons of brushes and razors too so i guess im not the only one with this problem lol
Amazon afilated razor available in Indian online market , For beared thicker and sensitive also, which razor is better ? Rockwell, Merker or parker? Please clarify to me
You might want to contact customer service. My Rockwell 6C with a gunmetal finish still looks brand new. They do have a lifetime warranty. Just saying.
Have you tried the Merkur 23c?? That's the razor I started out with and still use today.. It's the Merkur 34c's bigger brother.. The 23c is actually CHEAPER than the 34c!! Great Razor have not had one problem with it ever!! Let me know if you have tried the Merkur 23c!!
It must've been their blades, the Chieftain was so mild for me I had to return it. I got really coarse hair, It was barely taking any hair off for me lol
It's interesting how people vary from product to product I bought the Vikings play chieftain Odin and for me it's not aggressive enough. I mean I got frustrated with it the third time I used it resisted the temptation of whip it across the bathroom put it down and had to get another razor cuz that thing wouldn't cut a fart. I wonder if they change something in the manufacturing process. But the old adage your mileage may vary applies here LOL
Hi Godbless you always and your family. Im being shaving about 6 months. My first razor was the gillette king c. My second was the merkur 34c and the third one was the rockwell 6c. Im being buying a lot of razors just looking for a one that gives me BBS all the time. I even bought the leaf but it gives me lot of irritation and itching. Im being trying the 6c but in my first pass i feel like if is leaving lot of hair. I like shaving my head and my face. I dont know if im doing something wrong but i get scare when i use the 6c. Because in my first time shaving my face with it with plate #4 i cut my self. And i do like it very much . But i think im doing it wrong. I see lots of your videos and i like them. Can you please tell me what can i do or how to shave my head the correct way with the 6c to learn and become and expert shaving like you. Or at lease to shave bald head and face and have a nice BBS in every shave. I will aprecciated

@OhioShaves My youtube must have glitched. It said the last video was uploaded a year ago. I just checked again, and what do you know? Lol, sorry, new viewer.
Don't like the aggressive Muhle 41...get yourself a Parker 26c or the Parker 69CR which has both styles of combs. I don't like my Rockwell 6C Gunmetal much but that Parker 26C gets the job done.
The Merkur 34c was my first razor and it was a solid performer. Most of my nicks and cuts from that razor were my fault. 10 years and 6 razors later, I’m using my Rex Ambassador and basically nothing else.
@@OhioShaves I have had the Rex Ambassador for about a year. I’ve used a bunch of blades and haven’t had a bad shave yet. It’s really interesting that you have to dial them in when you change brands, as there are differences for sure. Honestly though my least favorite is Feather. I really have to dial it way down. Derby green and blues both work nicely, as do Rockwell. My favorite is definitely Astra greens and they pair perfectly with this razor.

The twig or Henson in your case. I have the same problem. I love the leaf razor on my head, but I cannot share with it on my face as well.
I tried the Viking as well terrible , I just switched to safety razors this past week or two. Now using a Merkur 23C with feather blades. Trying Voskhod blades next week. I enjoy the feather blades but want to find something cheaper for long term.
Thanks for sharing. Astra sp blades are really cheap. Check out my top 5 razor blades: ua-cam.com/video/k2Mbi5miqOs/v-deo.html
The Merkur 34c is a good razor, but not adjustable. I also shave my head, so I need an adjustable.
The Merkur Progress is my daily shaver.
👍 Rockwell 6c for me
@@OhioShaves great razors…just too much fiddling with parts to get the shave I want.
@@AdamWoody-q4n this is a great hobby
@@OhioShavessure is buddy!!
Amazon afilated razor available in Indian online market , For beared thicker and sensitive also, which razor is better ? Rockwell, Merker or parker? Please clarify to me
Rockwell is the king
Great content ! 👍🏻
👍Thanks for watching
R41 is in comparison to R89 , which is more agressive?
R41 easy
I prefer the 6 c to the 6s but the plating is gone after 1 month
You might want to contact customer service. My Rockwell 6C with a gunmetal finish still looks brand new. They do have a lifetime warranty. Just saying.
Have you tried the Merkur 23c?? That's the razor I started out with and still use today.. It's the Merkur 34c's bigger brother.. The 23c is actually CHEAPER than the 34c!!
Great Razor have not had one problem with it ever!!
Let me know if you have tried the Merkur 23c!!
Not yet! I have the 34c so like your said little brother
It must've been their blades, the Chieftain was so mild for me I had to return it. I got really coarse hair, It was barely taking any hair off for me lol
👍
It's interesting how people vary from product to product I bought the Vikings play chieftain Odin and for me it's not aggressive enough. I mean I got frustrated with it the third time I used it resisted the temptation of whip it across the bathroom put it down and had to get another razor cuz that thing wouldn't cut a fart. I wonder if they change something in the manufacturing process. But the old adage your mileage may vary applies here LOL
Thanks for your input
@@OhioShaves I am slowly trying to grow my channel as well.

I just starting using a 6s .I am really enjoying this razor. I am still experimenting with blades and settings. Right now it's a Sword blade on 2 and find it hard to believe I can get a closer shave.
Nice. Maybe not. Same blades feel different and achieve a glass like finish with less passes
@@OhioShaves Thanks my next shave will be with a Feather.
Sharp blade be careful
@@OhioShaves I'll let you know if EMS is called.Lol
🤣
so best razor for a very beginner?

What is the difference between twig razor and thorn razor?
Thorn is more aggressive by .2mm
May I ask why you stopped making videos completely?
I post a long format video every week and a short or two throughout the week
@OhioShaves My youtube must have glitched. It said the last video was uploaded a year ago. I just checked again, and what do you know? Lol, sorry, new viewer.
Thanks for the visit. Enjoy
@@OhioShaves thank you
I have a question: what is your favorite skin bump treatment product?
I'm not sure what you mean
Don't like the aggressive Muhle 41...get yourself a Parker 26c or the Parker 69CR which has both styles of combs. I don't like my Rockwell 6C Gunmetal much but that Parker 26C gets the job done.
Okay
The Merkur 34c was my first razor and it was a solid performer. Most of my nicks and cuts from that razor were my fault.
10 years and 6 razors later, I’m using my Rex Ambassador and basically nothing else.
Nice. What blades do you use?
@@OhioShaves I have had the Rex Ambassador for about a year. I’ve used a bunch of blades and haven’t had a bad shave yet. It’s really interesting that you have to dial them in when you change brands, as there are differences for sure. Honestly though my least favorite is Feather. I really have to dial it way down. Derby green and blues both work nicely, as do Rockwell. My favorite is definitely Astra greens and they pair perfectly with this razor.
For astra blades being dull i’d agree if you were talking about the blue ones but the astra green for me is just a step below a feather blade
Which Razor do you use?
@@OhioShaves currently i l’m using a merkur futur, a Gillette slim adjustable, and a PAA Ascension Select
Nice

@@OhioShaves Thanks for your reply, but I have the 6c and dislike the tab exposed on the side of the top cap. It cut me bad. So I'm looking for something else. How about the Timeless? Is it mild like the 34c?

Merkur 23c is better than 34c
The small size has been out for 80 years. It’s the work horse of the shaving committee. It’s size make the head of the razor heavier the it’s counter part. Totally different Razor.
Rex Envoy?
It could be for some. Blade feel is my only hang up
What blade worked best for you with the Merkur 34C?
Gillette Silver blue
@@OhioShaves thanks!
Will R41 head fit on Gillette heritage handle?
Not sure. The R41 twist is a 2 piece
@@OhioShaves Hmm Theres 2 and 3 piece versions. I suppose you have 2 piece.
I am the two piece
Slant razors left the chat
merkur 39c. th best razor on planet. mild but gives you a shave you will love
Is the 39c the longer than 37c?
@@OhioShaves i never used 37c because of how good 39c feels. but the handle is 2cm longer yes. i guess the head is the same so there should be no difference in performance
