    The video that the internet has been waiting for!

    Excellent demo Geo, the one thing I learned with this razor is that the blade tray has to face a certain way otherwise it won’t calibrate back to the one setting. There is some text on the blade try I believe it says Merkur, that needs to be facing to the right when assembling the bottom portion with the line indicator facing you. I hope this makes sense and will help others who may encounter this when reassembling the razor.

    • @michaelswanson437
      @michaelswanson437 Рік тому +3

      Yup, agreed. I discovered the same thing. Best way to tell if you have the wrong direction is turn it back to setting “1”. Then squeeze cap and base plate together. If it moves, it is on backwards.

    • @ThomasSarantos
      @ThomasSarantos Рік тому +3

      That's right. When the line indicator is facing you, the bridge or blade rest should say Merkur on the right, and Made in Germany on the left. If not, shaving is suicide.

      @@kcc1762If your setting won’t rotate to the one setting then you have to rotate the blade tray the other way.

    On the threads of my DE razors I use a military grade gun oil. A synthetic gun oil. Mil-Comm gun oil. I use a few drops on the threads especially. Metal on metal with threads especially..its a good idea for lubrication and also to prevent any future rust. I've seen guys even put the heads of a DE razor into a small container with baby oil at the bottom. This keeps the blade from rusting and maintains a sharper edge for a bit longer

    You inspired me to shave with a DE razor so i shaved today with my grandfather vintage slim hand gillette razor with an astra sp blade result was fantastic for the first use only 2 passes was enough big thanks for you ❤

    Excellent demonstration. Thank you. Tip, learned from tweaking a Chinese copy: if you chop off (filing or with cutting disc on a mini drill) the tab sticking out of the circular bottom of the baseplate, the razor becomes more adjustable. The tab is a detent that limits the lowest setting ('1'), and it is possibly located erring on the "efficient" cutting blade-gap. But this may still be too aggressive for some. Removing the tab (detent) allows uninhibited rotation: tightening and loosening the top plate, for a more "customised" setting. In fact, this is the mechanism Markus have used on their vintage ebonite Merkur Progress. Caution is needed, however: I am working on a copy of the razor, and modification may invalidate any warranty.

    • @geofatboy
      @geofatboy  11 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for sharing, but seems too extreme for a bit more aggressiveness. Not worth voiding the warranty.

    • @eliasragi7472
      @eliasragi7472 11 місяців тому

      Thank you. I agree. In my case, however, it is for less aggressiveness - a narrower blade gap.

    Most helpful, thank you. Lubricating also made it much easier to turn the dial to set the blade gap.

    I did this for the first time a few days ago on my new Futur. Whilst the top cap can go on either way round, when fitting the part with the rails on to the baseplate with the spring it can only go one way round. It is possible to fit it the wrong way round and you think it is ok. However if you depress the spring a bit more it becomes clear that it will tighten more beyond position 1 which it wont do if it is in the right way round. I didn't realise and for 2 days with my normal 6-4-2 shave I couldn't understand why I was getting some weepers and it seemed like I had been scraping my face to bits! I must have been doing the equivalent of a 9-7-5 shave!

    Keep up the good work and Have a great day and have a great shave!

    I use a small amount of of Dovo Oil to clean my straight Razor and then I would wash the safety Razors in a jewelry cleaner with distilled water and dawn dish soap. Let them dry and then clean with Dovo Oil for additional cleaning lubricant and corrosion prevention. Thanks for the advice and insider tricks on Razor maintenance.

    Is there anyway to tighten up the tension when I am adjusting settings? I received my razor in the mail today and I noticed it was a little easy to turn.
    Is there a way to solve this problem?

    My one and only is a discount Vander Hagen, my affordable razor looks very very similar....is it made for several companies....Going to shop with first and favorite Geo (the master) at Shave Nation, recovering from a Urolift at home now....the day after same day procedure, I am looking for a long handle safety razor, after 40+ years of curved handled disposables wonder if I can find a long curved handle...may not be safe, love Edwin Jagger, Rockwell, Hensen, and even Viking...but think I would most prefer a Rockwell long handle...this video makes me proud of my first safety razor design, but it is a little heavy...any comments? You should be celebrity, you are a great speaker, thanks for your content, hope money is good for you Geo.Hoping Jesus is blessing you...thanks so much for your great variety of videos and website....

    love your reviews. I Recently purchased Henson AL13 aggressive, Which is discontinued apparently. But I noticed from your videos and on their website there's actually a difference between AL13 aggressive and the titanium aggressive version. which is interesting to me. since you got them both, Would you kindly do a shaving comparison between Al13+++ and Ti22+++ please. Thank you.

    I bought one of these razor that are a copy of the futur razor I got one because it was reasonably price and I heard the futur razor is aggressive and I save money I heard that you should put oil in it so I did but with beard oil because if I am shaving with it I prefer be oil that is use on my face not oil for a car and the beard oil did the trick the handle was making a grinding on two surfaces of metal when twisting it for the adjustment now putting the beard oil it’s smoother and smells nice it was beard oil sandkewood from art of shaving it smells really nice and shaves really good with the copy futur razor but I did not have to disassemble it just put it in the hole where the top cap goes in the middle and put some beard oil on the twist part where the numbers are and twist it to the oil goes in and leave it for a while a few hours and it works like charm.

    Great video, BUT a word of warning from me. Make sure that the cap is depressed fully and that you turn that screw ALL THE WAY IN. Otherwise a razor with a reputation for being aggressive delivers a #6 shave in position #1 and gets increasingly insane as you increase the setting. Now that I have addressed that issue today I had a 3 pass shave for the 3rd day in a row with BBS results and no nicks or weepers. The beast can be tamed. The blade was an ASTRO platinum. All creames and magic potions from the masters at Proraso.

    Use dish soap with your razors, keep them away from acids. That is the best way to preserve your safetyrazor.

    hey guys and geofatboy, i’m in dire need of help. i’m 18 and have so many razor bumps/ingrown hairs on either side of my neck that won’t go away, I had them the entirety of my senior year. no matter how I shave they don’t seem to stop. what should I do to stop this? should I just not use razors on my neck? should I not shave until everything goes away and I get the ingrown hairs out? please help, I love shaving with razors but this shit is killing me 😂😂
