Thank you SO MUCH for this. I absolutely adored this and the first Dune films. Your analysis gave it justice. I was so emotionally moved by these films (also by Villeneuve's Arrival and Bladerunner), but especially by these. My instinct is that he is a true visionary and a genius. I could not find anyone to talk to in my surroundings that felt the same intense reaction. I am hypersensitive to great art, I take it very seriously and I'm very sensorily awake, I feel spiritually awakened by great art and I'm very kinetic, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that many frames in the film were intellectually orgasmic for me. Goosebumps, thrill, the whole thing. I feel like you accurately analysed why and your analysis was not cold either, it was passionate and perfectionistic. Deeply appreciated! I've been so thrilled to see the slew of videos admiring his works. Also I really feel that the entire crew of this project was fantastically put together. Talent, genius and dedication. Brilliant. Moving as well, because it is so refreshing to see a work of this scale put together with tremendous focus, and not laziness and superficiality and a lack of intellect, as is all too common nowadays. I went to see Dune 2 3x in the cinema and was basically on a high for a month afterwards (still kind of am). The first shock is seeing, then hearing the Harkonens getting out of their ship. The flight was the culmination of the most beautiful, jaw dropping, technical and artistic scene I’ve ever seen. He truly is the greatest science-fiction director of all time. And I’m 51; I’ve seen many movies, read many SF books and even published short stories, including one that won a prize. And I’ve never seen a movie like this. It’s a masterpiece, with the opening seen being the pinnacle of Denis’ career.
By husband and I sat in silence for minutes after Dune 2. The threats was almost empty as we looked at each other, mouths open, eyes glazed. That's one of the best movies I've ever seen, we both said at the same time in hushed, reverent tones. This movie is so visually beautiful that it's like a long drink of cool water after a long walk in a very dry desert... like Dune. The thirst is real.
Nice video. Glad that you focused on one scene in particular and explored it thoroughly, rather than poining out the scenes that feel the same way as the eclipse sequence.
One of the many things with Dune that makes it downright magic is that it's literally a team of Masters all working together to make something absolutely special.
Great vid. I've had a re-occurring dream for 50 years of running, then jumping and never landing. Just floating along a foot off the ground. We all have a desire to fly, so it captured that childlike part of me. Jaw drop scene.
dude i noticed the intro voice over sounded just like the film book narrator thing in part 1, i just assumed you had found a voice actor that sounded like him or it was AI or something, so cool Joe Walker took the time out of his day to narrate that piece for your video.
I was in IMAX (the only proper way to see this film) and I'm telling you, that scene (ascent), the whole cinema gasped and everyone knew it would be a great experience. The crazy thing is, that was such a simple movie effect. Probably some line work.
That sequence pulled me out of it for one simple reason. None of the soldiers are looking where they’re going. It’s basics 101 in the military, you look where you’re going, you point your gun at where you’re looking. They are ascending and yet they look down at something.
I finally got to watch Dune 2 last night. Total perfection. I haven't experienced cinematic goose bumps in a very long time. Going to watch it again now.
Oh, how GLAD am I that I took my friends as a birthday party and we travelled a few hundred miles to IMAX and popped some acid and molly before it. It was unreal, I will never forget it. I wish they would reprise it in IMAX again, some day, so I could take more friends.... and more acid.
I recognized Joe Walker's voice Immediately, but just assumed you found a clip of him taking in some other project. Awesome of him to record that bit of VO just for you! Great video!
This is what eclipses are for...! Thanks to Joe - if you're good enough for an Oscar winner, then you've certainly earned my sub. Looking forward to the next video!
I don't like or subscribe very often, but you deserve it. This was one of the most breathtaking scene I saw in a movie aswell, and you described it perfectly :D
i love the concept art, the flowing robes and head wraps look awesome. the only thing i wish theyd done differently in the film was include more fabrics and robes into the desert garb, i felt that the importance of water and the heat of the desert could have been shown a bit more viscerally. Paul and other main characters keeping their faces uncovered so often made the desert feel a bit less extreme than in the books.
My favorite scene in any movie is in Bladerunner. When Deckard, Harrison Ford, interviews the replicant, Jessica. They lower a tint over the window and the sun and pyramid shape of the Tyrell corporation is in the background. Just the best visual scene for me ever.
good choice of scene. Yeah, the Harkonnens are portrays as brutes and more primal and when they take off, you are instantly reminded how technologically advanced they are and it is a great contrast of the desert setting.
I've seen it in IMAX in Bangkok and few weeks later back home and I discovered so *many* scenes during the second watch where I've just been in total awe in IMAX. The whole Giedi Prime sequence alone was so mesmerizing it zapped my brain completely.
The Harkonnen flight scene perhaps foreshadows Paul’s ascension as the kwisatz haderach. The line of Harkonnens running up to fly evokes allusions to the image of evolution of man from primitive primates, except now man has unlocked the next stage of evolution and can fly
This has to be one of my favorite movie shots of all time. Its also one that really stuck with me after watching the movie and i remembered it vividly. I completely get what the dune editor was trying to say even though its hard to grasp. There is something about these shots that just does something special to the brain and its so awesome
the eclipse, I think, established the look of the film. After that sequence the colors, the atmosphere, the oppressive tension, it all keeps going off of that point.
Yeah, perfection is something beautiful to gaze at and admire from your armchair, but that's it really. There are no flaws I can relate to, no humanity with which to connect. I prefer films that are perfectly imperfect.
I watched it on the plane to Mexico for the 2024 eclipse and definitely enjoyed this scene. I also saw the 2022 eclipse from home, so this fact is actually really special to me. Thanks!

Nice video. Glad that you focused on one scene in particular and explored it thoroughly, rather than poining out the scenes that feel the same way as the eclipse sequence.
yeah... that sequence is mind blowing, so special, what a way to reintroduce us into the desert. Great essay!!
One of the many things with Dune that makes it downright magic is that it's literally a team of Masters all working together to make something absolutely special.
I was blown away by that shot too. The last time I felt like that was the opening cityscape shot in The Dark Night in the IMAX.
That whole bit was mind blowing, unsettling, disturbing, awesome and frightening at the same time!
Man! This analysis is of top quality. exceptional quality and presentation. Keep it up!
Great vid. I've had a re-occurring dream for 50 years of running, then jumping and never landing. Just floating along a foot off the ground. We all have a desire to fly, so it captured that childlike part of me. Jaw drop scene.
Thank you so much for this video! Your skill and passion is very clear in your love and care of the details.
This analysis video should be shown to everyone in schools
dude i noticed the intro voice over sounded just like the film book narrator thing in part 1, i just assumed you had found a voice actor that sounded like him or it was AI or something, so cool Joe Walker took the time out of his day to narrate that piece for your video.
I had goosebumps when you said the word 'goosebumps'
amazing video! you talk about the editing and sound design of the movie but your own editing and sound design is extremely well done
I was in IMAX (the only proper way to see this film) and I'm telling you, that scene (ascent), the whole cinema gasped and everyone knew it would be a great experience.
The crazy thing is, that was such a simple movie effect. Probably some line work.
This scene as well as the scenes on the Harkkonen home planet were riveting cinematography.
I was surprised to see such few likes, I thought this was definitely a million + subs channel. Your quality is impeccable keep up the great work!!!
Very cool video, it feels like it's inspired by Dune even in the way you edited it, please keep posting more!
That sequence pulled me out of it for one simple reason. None of the soldiers are looking where they’re going. It’s basics 101 in the military, you look where you’re going, you point your gun at where you’re looking. They are ascending and yet they look down at something.
That scene in Imax was mind fucking blowing
I don't know why, but seeing them rise with those jet packs just let me know this movie was gonna be something special.
This is what eclipses are for...!
Thanks to Joe - if you're good enough for an Oscar winner, then you've certainly earned my sub. Looking forward to the next video!
This scence aint even in the book. Dennis and the team really added onto the souces while respecting it.
Fantastic video. Real quality analysis and narration on your part. I was shocked you only have 5k subscribers. It’s +1 now😊
I don't like or subscribe very often, but you deserve it. This was one of the most breathtaking scene I saw in a movie aswell, and you described it perfectly :D
Thank you for breaking down the moment I sat forward in my seat in the theaters.
i love the concept art, the flowing robes and head wraps look awesome. the only thing i wish theyd done differently in the film was include more fabrics and robes into the desert garb, i felt that the importance of water and the heat of the desert could have been shown a bit more viscerally.
The line of Harkonnens running up to fly evokes allusions to the image of evolution of man from primitive primates, except now man has unlocked the next stage of evolution and can fly
keep making videos lad, really enjoyed that one! u got great voice thats pleasing to listen to
This has to be one of my favorite movie shots of all time. Its also one that really stuck with me after watching the movie and i remembered it vividly. I completely get what the dune editor was trying to say even though its hard to grasp. There is something about these shots that just does something special to the brain and its so awesome
are you 11 years old?
Same. That scene just confirmed that i was watching a genuine sci-fi masterpiece.
I’m really glad I found this video. Outstanding. Really well considered. Thanks
Was so excited seeing the thumbnail, I remember them beginning to float when I saw this in the theater. Thinking “Ok yea this is going to be great”
Beautiful commentary and presentation - Subscribed and looking forward to more like this!
and I thought the movie couldn't be better. Well done!
A video essay talking about a perfect shot; which is actually perfect.
Kudos!
Now such movie comes in very rare but when it comes u know it’s worth waiting
Actually amazing editing, amazing video Daaane
fantastic video, you have earned a subscriber - this is spot on content wise and clearly made with love and admiration. keep it up!
FIlming the scene in an actual eclipse makes it so much better
Awesome video man, excited to see you continue to build your abilities- cant even believe youve only got 4k
Keep it up!
Great video, did not expect that from a small channel like this one. Pleasant surprise, keep it up!!!
the eclipse, I think, established the look of the film. After that sequence the colors, the atmosphere, the oppressive tension, it all keeps going off of that point.
awesome video and wow, Joe is so talanted and sounds like such a nice guy.
Thanks!
