- I return to review the biggest VR game since Skyrim VR - Budget Cuts. I also made the review almost as long. I really enjoyed this game as a VR experience but my biggest issues come with the level design and lack of stealthy puzzles. However in terms of a game designed for VR, Budget Cuts is so well implemented to work for the Vive it’s the first big step a game has made to be a true VR title.

All the titles I reviewed for VR in the last few months have had modding supported but Budget Cuts VR (as far as I know) does not, so it wasn’t as easy for my to create VR skits and mod in crazy shit, more’s the pity.
Budget Cuts is one of the most highly anticipated games to come out for the VR this year, this is mainly due to the success and hype created by it’s demo. I never played the demo so went into Budget Cuts VR fresh and found it be an extremely exciting, if not flawed Vive game.

I was playing Job simulator in VR for the first time. After a 10 minute play session I genuinely tried to set my controller down on a countertop that only existed in the game. Wow.

As a VR player I can confirm that this is EXTREMELY accurate.
I'm not even kidding. I actually do this after long sessions.
I love how your videos are always like 15mins or so but with your great pace it feels like no time is wasted or stretched out unlike a lot of gaming channels that are cynical af.

Eeeehhhh.... The thing with some of bethesda's stuff is it's creative... But not explained. Let's say Skyrim combat. Shoot, stab, or spell. Simple right? Well, you can adapt your spells to enemy types, you could bash an enemy with a shield to get in a power attack, if you're far away enough you have to account for arrow drop, and it the enemy is moving you have to account for move time. The skill is there, but it doesn't have enough effect on the game to be worth doing. If they made the mechanics they included to make it better have more effect it would be better, however I also appreciate the laxness of it as if gives you more choice of what to do. It's the same with their quests in Skyrim (I'm using Skyrim as an example as it's relatively new and I know a lot about it.) The quests are good, but they need a bit more complexity. The games themselves aren't that bad, just need some improvements here and there.

When I played Budget Cuts, I was trying to kill a robot so bad, and yet I had not gotten to the knives part. So, I kept throwing a book at them, until I had hit the robot just right (in the nards) and caused it to collapse, and then I carried it until it had awoken, and it was scared of me. Best game, 10/10.
You spent so much time on Hitman 2, that the UA-cam thinks this is a Hitman 2 video.
For some reason, he put it as a Hitman 2 video. You have to manually type what game you're playing when you upload a gaming video.

He won't respond to my comments, but I'm 100% positive he did these animated movie reviews that were around in like 2002ish. I loved them so much. Masterpiece Movie Reviews. Idk that many people knew about them and I'm going to be super surprised if they weren't voiced by him, but they were fucking HILARIOUS. I was only like 13 or 14 back when I watched them too haha.

Good comedy takes timing and his editing is part of his timing. He works very hard on his craft, unlike many of the rabble that try to make it on YT.
The robots you murder look like a mix of the robots from Portal and the Plumbots (not the Simbots) from Sims 3, set in a location that looks like Aperture Science meets The Stanley Parable.
The....perfect game :'^)
Come to think of it, The Stanley Parable could be quite fun to play in VR

I have gotten it. The experience has been very nice so far. I would definitely recommend it. The only constraint I have is my play space but other then that it's been great.

the point of the straps on the wii was for the sweaty handed loose grip people who throw controllers into expensive tv's
with the vive you have a good chance of just hitting a wall.
but the vive has rubber grip and if you have a decent hold on it like a normal non anemic human its not going anywhere.

yes you do. Thats a very important feature in vr games. What you dont see is your real walls. But you see the borders of your playarea. Which you have defined -ideally - inside your walls.
Because they're a sort of insurance against the chance of accidentally letting go of the controller. Trust me, even the strongest people misstep and let go of a controller from time to time
The wii controller straps were very important. Because those remotes were carved of solid nintendium, a material which is by far more durable than walls, TVs, and many other things, and were also designed _just so_ so that they could slip from one's hands at high speed and go flying towards and often _into_ the aforementioned items.

I recently replayed Portal 2. I was making it through the puzzles fairly quickly despite forgetting them all, but one part stumped me in the underground section. The level was familiar but I couldn’t see the way to progress for the life of me. Then these words played back in my head, clearer and louder than any sound coming from my headset or the outside world...

For me the thing that i found maybe a little too convincing about budget cuts was the fact the sometimes when you stab the robots they fall over but for a little while they keep trying and failing to get up which feels maybe a little too real
Can you stamp the walls? If so you could probably mark the areas you've been through and identify them by making symbols on the walls with the stamp

I like your comments on forced creativity. I'm a musician and love putting constraints on my music projects. Like putting a 3 minute song length limit in a genre (doom metal to be specific) that is usually known for being excessively long, often over 10 minutes per song. Seems counter-intuitive and limiting, but I felt like a whole new world of creative possibilities opened up for me in many ways. Wrote some good songs that way. Recommend the forced creativity thing.

heights. Oh my god, looking off a ledge is so stomach churning in VR
The movement is actually fine, at least for me. But when I went to get the golden claw from Bleak Falls Barrow, I stopped at that unmarked bandit tower along the way. Walking along the wooden side path with no railing along the outside of the tower, I looked off the edge. God damn, that was so unsettling.
That credits song is wonderful in every way except for those vowels.

Also I'd rate this a 9.9 out of 10 because it doesn't have Oculus Quest support and I don't have a good enough PC to use the Rift S.
Edit: I just wanted to put some clarification on what I meant by "Quest support." For something to have Quest support, for me at least, it must be on the Quest section of the Oculus store. Using Oculus Link to have access to Steam VR and the Rift S section of the store doesn't count.

As someone who played the demo of Budget Cuts VR when it came out, and has been waiting 2 years to play it, I love the way the game works, but also agree with all of your complaints (OH GOD MY KNEES) and the fact that the Admin Bots are horrifying. Great video!

The hospital I work at’s physical therapy utilizes different cybernetic and VR technologies. The fact that this game makes you do physical motions is the key aspect
