Our Hognose Snake Laid Eggs in WINTER?!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 чер 2024
- Just a couple days before going into brumation, Mitosis decided to lay eggs! And they're FERTILE, too! Guess she'll be staying awake and getting fed all winter (which was probably her plan all along).

mitosis is honoring her mom (omnomelet) and doing unusual things with her babies. you go mitosis❤
Rip Omnomlette
let's hope that she doesn't die too...
like mother, like daughter, the unexpected things they do continues to the next generation of hognose snakes.

Omnom: So hungry she laid the eggs to eat
Mitosis: So hungry she laid eggs so she could eat
Conclusion: The Omnom Family Lineage will do anything and everything to eat.
Mitosis is a smart noodle!
Sounds like my spirit animal
HAHAHAHAHA yea… am I a Omnom family member too?
LMFAO!!! So true!!!!
That'd be right.... 😂😅
I love Mitosis. The way she is tries to eat Emily and NOT the eggs. Amen for that, Mitosis!
Taaaaasty Emily. Much bigger than an egg. The snack Mitosis deserves!
Unlike omnomlet 😭
Hear that, Emily? It's now official that you're sweet enough to eat!
She’s making sure she doesn’t follow in her mom’s footsteps!
She’s glad she didn’t get eaten so she wants to be a good mom😂😂😂
Mitosis is carrying on her mama’s legacy by doing crazy things with her eggs. 😂
I think Omnomlet would be proud. Rip Omnomlet we all love you and miss you ❤️💔
at least she is making more babies than her mother who wanted less babies that she could have so much she killed one by eating her own egg
What a wonderful bloodline of weirdos! May the weirdness continue for generations to come!
WAIT WHEN DID OMNOMLETE PASS??
@@fletcherandjunk2246she double clutched earlier this year and it was too much for her system, and dispite looking good immediately post-egg laying, her system crashed and she passed away
@@hayleywright6585 I had absolutely no clue oh my gosh 🥺
If they live and you keep any, they should be named after Winter, like "snowball", "snowflake", etc.
That's exactly what I was thinking too.😊
I also thought of the name ' candy cane '
Edit: santa, Grinch, snowy
Reindeer!
Holly, Mistletoe, Poinsettia, Icicle, any of the reindeer names, Jack Frost, Frosty...
Eggnog!
I love Ed's reaction to finding out that Mitosis had eggs. Just that "Only one of /our/ snakes" kind of face.
Vanellope (Mitosis’ notch-patterned baby from this past summer) says “Congrats, Mom! Good thinking on the winter eating plan! I hope I grow up to be as smart as you! Can’t wait to see what my siblings look like when they hatch!” 🙃😄🥰
Aw, do you have one of Mitosis’ babies??
@@cloudedfreedom6286 pretty sure so. Baby Hogs are so cute
You could say that Mitosis is... coming in CLUTCH!
Eh? Eh?
I appreciate the pun but I'm afraid the pun police will be here shortly
@@death1019 let them. They will be taken care of.
Best. Post. Ever!
Hello it’s the pun police, I’m gonna need you to delete this post
Eh!
Mitosis making up for the eggs her mama ate. Breaking generational curses
Just what I was thinking.
Mitosis determined to be the first mom of 2024. She's beating everyone to the punch. XD
Please do an updated meet all our snakes living in the back room of the shop, video! It'd be so interesting to see who you all still have vs your newer snakes 🐍
Would also like a breeding season recap. Since its so hard to keep track of it with all the egg and hatching videos
Omnomlette looking down from snake heaven like “that’s my girl!”
The "Mitosis has decided to go through mitosis" joke is HILARIOUS
also I love how this channel is basically a documentary of the weird things snakes sometimes do lol XD
Emily: "You don't know these eggs yet so I'm not gonna tell you. Haha"
Also Emily: -told us 2 minutes ago- "Those are Sharon's eggs"
XD Love you, Emily, and all others at Snake Discovery!
The video on Sharon's eggs was released 4 days ago.
@@deemcdaniel9150 I'm aware but I was referring to this current video
You can also see Sharon's name on the box as she puts it in the incubator, lol.
She not only wanted food all winter but an entire video dedicated to her! Way to go Mitosis!
Laying eggs to get out of brumation. Mitosis is playing 4D chess. 😂
Oh Mitosis. Keeping up the family honor when it comes to doing strange things with your eggies. Silly noodle. Your momma would be proud! I swear, Snake Discovery snakies are too happy 😆 Jeebus clutches, double clutches, “I’m not gonna brumate” clutches… so many happy snakes popping out eggies.
Ngl, I've been wondering if being /too/ happy might be why everyone is double clutching
don't you just love it when a animal throws a curve ball and messes with set plans.🐍🐍
Just reminds me of the song Life Changes. My favorite line is “you make your plans and you hear god laughing” lol.
Animals just love doing that. We go to all the effort to find out how they live in the wild and veterinary guidelines, and then they do this 😂💜
"Mitosis is going through mitosis" I started laughing
clearly heard about brumation and decided it was an absolute nope to being cold and hungry for 3 months so it was egg o'clock
Mitosis is all about the viewers- she knows how much we like the babies hatching so decided to fill a gap!!
The possibility of life with snake babies is exactly what we all need during this hard time. After watching Brian's goodbye video I went to your channel to see the babies again. It helped
Who is Brian?
@@hannahphoenix3299Brian Barycek. He is in hospice with pancreatic cancer
@@hannahphoenix3299 Brian Barczyk is huge in the reptile community and recently passed of cancer, it hit everyone pretty hard. Highly recommend his channel he was a wonderful man who changed so many lives
Wait 'til you see MatPat's :(
Brian Barczyk he has the Reptarium
Mitosis was so hungry she decided she was gonna get her food one way or another xD My female hognose is just as food hungry
"Yayy! I get extra foods!" -Mitosis
No one was expecting this lol
I Love all your videos!
and we love the babies we all get to see
I love Mitosis and her distinctive conda pattern! Glad to see she's carrying on her mother's legacy of crazy unexpected shenanigans.
Don't you mean shenaneggans
@@mimisezlol I was gonna correct you, the joke flew right over my head! Glad I realized lmao
Good thing she wasn't fed too. If she was fed before she laid the eggs, I'm pretty sure they would have started to rot inside her...yikes.
@@lilysamvelian9970Wat?
Eeeeeee eggs from Mitosis! Sweet girl ❤ I hope she and her babies are all healthy
I agree. Hopefully the mother and her babies are all okay!
Well, I'm assuming Mitosis did breed with Jester, but decided to hide the collected sperm for later so she could have babies with Mirage first. Then she laid the eggs as if she knew that.
Marvelous strategy! Mighty Mitosis outfoxed her human minions, ensuring a steady supply of mousie morsels all season!
Mitosis has figured out how to hack the system! 🤣🤣🤣
Mitosis reminds me of Omnomelet, she will be very proud of her daughter! ❤
Amen
That means hatching vids and babies as a treat in possibly March! Way to have an exclusive video for your babies, Mitosis 😂😂😂
Eggs rolling on their own during incubation: I'd think it's be embryonic movement. Since they're not attached to one another like they normally would be to give stability to the eggs, could that explain why the eggs roll on their own?
Hognose’s don’t attach their eggs :) so they don’t have said stability to prevent that. I think that could be a thing but they’d have to be moving pretty crazy to move in the substrate I think
@@ashl3324 maybe the species that do stick them together are generally just a bit more sensitive to rolling, thus the need to stick them together?
Maybe they search for their siblings 🤫😉
Hmmm, possibly? I would think that would be much later in the development process though so that they're big enough to move the entire egg. If you think of it in human terms when a baby kicks and moves inside the womb, it's not so hard that it would cause them to move stuff on the outside of mum (unless it is something super small and light) right? So for the baby snake to roll an egg it would have to be fairly late in development for it to have the size needed to cause that momentum.
If not that then I have no clue what else could cause it, unless staff aren't as careful getting the boxes in and out of the incubator? Can't see that though.
No hognose up here on the Iron Range , but we only have Copper Belly’s and Canadian Garder snakes. In which they hibernate under the front door of my house. My guard snakes. Keeps my brother and sister-in-law away in the summer. I’ll try to stop by next Monday to say hi. Doctors appointment at the VA .
This line of ladies just slithers to their own beat. I agree she did it on purpose for the food. She comes by it honestly considering her mother. lol
I love how flabbergasted Emily sounds. Fingers crossed for Mitosis babies.
Awe! I love the fact that you take care of so many animals and take such good care of them! ❤
a garter snake i rescued did that, i had to keep her for the winter anyway for her recovery so i released her and the surviving babies into the wild late spring.
Oh my gosh just the cheer up I needed!
any theorists in the chat? 😂
Me! I'm excited for Matt's Lore-Fi thing tho!
Mitosis, don't be like your mom and double clutch. You are too precious to the Snake Discovery community to stand anything happening to you so soon.
she seems to be eating for now which is a good sign
*omnomlet memory intensifies*
Let's all just act surprised and pretend we didn't hear her say Sharon's eggs. And that we couldn't read when she said she told us, and also the label on the top of the container as she put it in the incubator. 🤣🤣 Love the videos!
😂 I didn’t know you had to water eggs like plants before I watched this. ❤
I'm sorry- those eggs were laid on my birthday?!?!?! Omg thank you Mitosis! Best present ever! sharing a birthday/eggday with your babies!!!
I love this reptile channel. I just got a 5 month old female western hognose a few weeks ago. It’s my first hognose and she’s amazing.
i recently found your guys' channel and i love it so much! i have been binge watching youtube videos for the past month or so, and i just want to say thank you for all you do! i am learning so much and it is incredibly entertaining too! it is now a future goal of mine to visit Minnesota just to visit your guys' zoo 💜
Welcome to the snake discovery channel (they are the #1 UA-camrs and I’m their #1 fan no arguing about that my channel is literally called snakediscoveryfan101 so welcome aboard)
thank you!! i'm excited to join the crew!
You should go back to their videos documenting all the stages of building their zoo during covid from a few years ago, super fun content. 😊
Same here! I was sick with covid over xmas and new years and just spent most of the days watching this channel! It's so fun, educational, and also really heartwarming to see the love these people have for their animals. Now I really want a hognose too 😅
@@cha0spixie when I first wanted a snake, I really wanted a hognose too! On Christmas Eve my parents surprised me with a baby male hognose snake and I was filled with joy and couldn’t express how happy I was.
A couple months later he decided to stop eating.. a little later we went to a reptile expo and bought another hognose there this time it was a female. A couple months later my first hognose who decided not to eat (his name is Coby) he unfortunately passed away and we couldn’t do anything about it. About 2 weeks after Coby’s passing we bought a female ball python to start growing our collection again.
A little after thanksgiving in 2023, we went out to New England Reptile Distributor (NERD) and we were looking at some ball pythons there for breeding, we ended up getting a male and a female to breed. I now have 4 happy and healthy snakes and soon I am going to go to the NARBC reptile expo and see Emily and Ed!
We are also planning to go to there zoo, but we are trying to go there when Emily and Ed are there which is kinda hard.
So that’s my story!
Can i just say, this new Camera quality is insane. I didnt notice until right now while wearing Headphones. I freaked out when Ed came into the video because his voice sounded like it was right behind me 😂😂😂
😂I love it. Your snakes are someting else and Mitosis is just a smart girl who didn't want to miss a meal🥰
This shows that the environment is perfect for them ❤❤❤.
Just when we all thought they'd finished for the winter! How exciting and a nice way to start the year I guess. Omnomns grand babies too right?
Woke up from my nap and I get to watch this, what a great way to start my evening lol
Congrats to Mitosis for those beautiful eggs. I am crossing my fingers on the iffy eggs making it. 🤞
I just found snake discovery, and literally yesterday saw the omnomlet egg eating saga! Mitosis is so funny! Takes after her momma for the cray cray mommying habits!
Mitosis decided that she wanted to be over four month early
The legacy of Omnomelette's lineage lives on in truly weird fashion
we ❤ mitosis! ive watched your channel for so long, its truly sparked my love of all reptiles!
Mitosis laying eggs in the winter is so funny, she must desperately that food.
She totally did it to get food 😄
Yeah, I mean she was even waiting with her mouth open, though she's a good mum and didn't try to eat her eggs.
RIP omnomlette ❤ she was one of my favourite snakes 😢
My favorite part when Emily get it and says " oh that's why you did it!"😅😅😂
Awesome job Mitosis!!! Totally want a baby!! We love crazy oddball things around here!!!
I guess weird egg behavior runs in this family LOL
I love that baby season is just continuing into the winter. ❤🎉
Mitosis!!!! She *has* to be extra! 😂 It’s good to know that she’s motivated by food! Me too, sister, me too!😂❤❤❤❤
So was her mother...
Mitosis is one smart cookie! I mean sneaky snake! 👍
Mitosis while you were collecting the off season eggs: checkmate. Try to put me in brumation now! Lol. Omnomlette is proud
since the eggs were laid in winter you should name them after winter stuff or christmas stuff once they hatch? i think that will be a really fun and cute idea! ❄️☃️🤍🩵
You're probably going to get a snow 😂
1600 in 4 minutes. you have such a great community Ed and Emily.
She was hiding snacks that she was going to use…. 😂
The mystery eggs: the sequel! First Sharon and now Mitosis. Miss her mom though ❤️
I love you guys so much hope I can come and see you guys one day
Thank you, Mitosis. We needed winter babies. 😊
I have a feeling this is Jester's clutch
WHEN SNAKE DISCOVERY POSTS, YOU KNOW IT WILL BE A GOOD DAY ❤
They have it now that I can't speak, I have followed forever and wanted to ask a question
Why? Sorry, just upset.
And that is how you get out of brumation 😂❤
I hope they make it that would be sad if not sending wishes to all of you including Mitosis ❤❤
In today's episode of I didn't know I was pregnant...
Jester: I could still be a dad! :D
LOVE!!!!!! I use to be afraid of snakes now I think they’re so fricken cute!!
Yay!! I’d never think that mitosis would lay egg in winter congratulations❤hope they are doing well
OMG!!! I thought my hognose was just dumb as he kept grabbing his food sideways. Now I know!!!
I stumbled over Shake Discovery's channel a week or so ago and I just loveeee this channel so much this Couple always sounds sooo happy excited it's clearly a passion and dream job for them which is always wonderful.. Also I love snakes so that's a plus XD
Hoggies!!! Can’t wait to see them hatch
Wow!!! Animals always have surprises for us. Love you guys. Videos are so much fun.
I’m honestly really impressed with how much you have committed to the reptile community, you even got me to buy a snake, and once I move away from my parents house I want to do something like you are! Because I have nothing as cool as you guys where I am ! I am honestly in love with ball pythons, so much so I recently bought one. this is a lot to ask, but are you considering working with them in the future? I would absolutely love that!
I believe they actually have some ball pythons if I'm not mistaken.
@@srobinson225 you are not mistaken.
@@srobinson225 Yeah, I saw at least one video of ball pythons hatching
Yeah they already do. They just specialize in North American colubrids.
@@neko7606 yeah, ball pythons are extremely common. I like that they focus on all the other species.
Ticket to under one hour right here
I know these are recorded like a while before they're posted but "ALMOST DECEMBER"??? Girl we're almost halfway through January.
CONGRATULATIONS MITOSIS!!!!!!!!! ILY
Bro, her skill to write things upside down is kinda cool !
Wow, eggs in winter?! That’s so wild! Can’t wait for baby garter snakes soon! (In my area it’s garter breeding season in a few months.)
Mitosis performing Meiosis in December is amazing haha
She looked so proud of herself
❤❤❤😮 btw, I love the mitosis joke lol
I smile so hard every time I see yall posted a video
Praise Mitosis for (hopefully) giving us an off-season egg-unboxing video!
why do the mangrove egss look like giant tic-tacs? xD
Giant Tic Tac boxes exist, at least from what I can remember
Never a dull moment at Snake discovery...lol. Surprised you didn't do the damp paper towel trick on the eggs - good luck and I can't wait to see if any of them actually hatch.
Omnomlete who passed away from laying a second clutch: Am I a joke to you?
I got my first two snakes because you guys I listen to your guys videos and everything and my mom decided to get me a snake for my birthday
Mitosis made you an early Christmas present! What a great snake! 😄
At least they weren't slugs. She didn't just want her owner to see slugs, so she left something useful in exchange.
After the breeders come out of brumation can you do a tour of your entire hognose, bullsnake, and other species living in the back showing us every one of the snakes individually (breeders, and the ones you are raising up that are not quite big enough to breed). I have been watching your channel for a while and am interested in seeing what all snakes you have currently because you are ever growing.
“Mom ate babies. I’m not that metal but I will be a chaos lord”
Happy New Year! Mitosis follows her mom in being a weirdo. Hoping for four good ones.🤞
maybe six if we are lucky
G-day Em and Ed,
I love this time of hatching
She's learned how to work the system. Smart girl
