@@kirkwahmmett1666 I sported one back in the day. Had a big Venom patch on it. Then changed to a Mercyful Fate patch. Covered with a lot of smaller patches like Slayer, Metallica, Exodus, Destruction, Dark Angel…etc. I rocked it out back in the day. But I’d look like a butt plug wearing it today 🤣. My son could rock one. I’ve seen a few here and there in modern times. But not as much as back in the 80’s and 90’s,

looks neat but MY GOODNESS that string alignment on the neck, what's going on there at the 7:05 mark! It would personally drive me batty just looking at it. I get this is more of a collectors piece but I bet playability for this particular one is not great. I know I would be slipping off the fretboard constantly with the High E with misalignment like that.

Considering they already did a custom shop version of this guitar once already, and with the teased '84 Explorer re-issue coming to the standard USA line-up eventually, I think they should have skipped a second custom shop version and done a non-aged standard USA version of this guitar. The current "70s Flying V" in the standard USA range has the wrong, pointy headstock shape and binding. I know there are lots of Metallica fans out there, and I think there is ample opportunity to sell a metric ton of White '84 Explorers and Black 70s Flying V's.

I have a Black Gibson Flying V built on my Birthday in 1983. What's the odds of stumbling onto that!? It had cracks in the body and a little the worse for wear after being in Ron Zelle's trunk with another one for years gigging. Mine was the better of the 2. I had it redone with black body after filling the lil cracks along with the face of the neck being left original. Natural satin neck with the stock rosewood fingerboard, new frets, etc. EMG 81 pickups that Het used in those days. Original Flying V case too! I used to play Sabbath, Priest & Metallica on it.

To be fair, with inflation as high as it is, you’re much better blowing money than saving it. 3% interest is actually a 7% yearly loss if you keep it in a money account. At least with a guitar you can actually play it, and when you sell it the depreciation will be much less than the rate of inflation, or hell, it might even turn a profit. Putting your money in actual assets is much wiser move in todays economy. The country is dying, not much to save for anyway. Pretty soon we’ll all be using government controlled central digital currency, and if you’re buying things they don’t want you to, well, too bad. No, you can’t buy gas this week, you bought gas last week, and if you bought it this week your carbon footprint will be too big. It’s coming.

I get why it's crazy expensive, i mean you dont buy a signature guitar because you just want the guitar. It's more for the cool experience of owning a signature guitar, and it's dope if you're into that. Just not worth it at all if you're just looking to get a good guitar

Wow, they went all in on this thing with actual, interesting swag and a serious, SERIOUS relic job. I despise relic’d guitars…earn your dings, dammit. But a.) this is a replica and b.) it’s so next-level, I can’t help but appreciate it, without a trace of irony. This is completely beautiful and while yes, I wish they would price these things so that *real* street fans could afford them, I also wish that people would love eachother and live in harmony. It’s not gonna happen and a fiddle of this magnitude is *going to be* lawyer money. Such is life. Gibson has been on a bit of a downward slope for the past 15 years but this is unimpeachable work.

I actually like 70s era guitars in general. From Fender jumbo headstock bullet trust rods, to the 78 Gibson silverburst, to the lawsuit era Ibanez les pauls. Kirk played a single pickup version of this guitar too as a backup. Kirk always says hes a fan at heart, he still relates to the fans, and understands what its like to be a broke musician playing Jerry rigged guitars.. but still continues to sign on with Gibson and puts out insanely priced guitars with his name on it and acts like this guitar is for the every day middle class, barely making it financially, fan.. some of the prices I've seen listed for this guitar or any of his Gibson guitars esp "Greeny" is like half a years salary for an average person lol.
