      you get what you pay for with a kit, the margins for what it will ever be, and what you can do to it to make it better are low and and can be a limitation for some, some people that is all they need is something thats already 85% there, but if you have time to spend how to build from scrap, little by little you are bound by your ability and the sky is the limit when iit comes to the human mind

    This is a fantastic build, just remember to not adjust the height of the bridge like you did in this video, losen the tension on the bridge or else the bridges "knives" and posts will be damaged, its a very common problem when the guitar not staying in tune anymore because the bridge is not floating the way it should due to flat areas on the knives... other than that the whole build is awesome.. :D great job..

    • @joelongstaff7601
      @joelongstaff7601 Рік тому

      HearGear. Sir I'm new to building guitars,I'm on my first one, it's for my son. What do you mean when you say the bridge "knives" and posts will be damaged. For my finished project I will be using solid birds eye maple with a dyed maple center spine. I was wondering about using a finger joint the length of the body. I thought it might help resonance. What's your thoughts?

    • @HearGear
      @HearGear Рік тому

      @@joelongstaff7601 Always losen the tension on the strings when adjusting the height of a floating tremolo system, the bridge should not be touching the posts when adjusting the height of the tremolo. Or else you will flatten the edge that is touching the posts and the tremolo will no longer float like it should and the guitar will not stay in tune anymore.

    I feel like you shouldn't have wiped the glue off the initial body joint. It's quicker to leave it to dry and chisel it off. As wiping it just leave a thin mask of glue along the joint. I mean sure you can sand it off but it's just easier in case you need to mark centre lines etc. Nice guitar though mate, you've done a good job

      this is the worst "woodworkers tip" i've ever read.

    • @juicy5816
      @juicy5816 2 роки тому +1

      @@FulcrumsEdge well you are wrong. Sure both methods work, but look at it this way. Glue is water based, and water raises wood grain with leads to soaking into the wood. If glue soaks into the wood it will leave you with finishing problems 9 times out of 10.

    • @juicy5816
      @juicy5816 2 роки тому +1

      @@FulcrumsEdge maybe stop being shallow and thinking there’s only 1 way around things

    • @FulcrumsEdge
      @FulcrumsEdge 2 роки тому

      @@juicy5816 if glue is water based and you leave it on the wood, stands to reason that excess glue should be wiped off to avoid the moisture contents soaking into the pores of the wood it is settling on. So uh, yeah, your original point still comes across as silly. Also, chisels are specially for shaping wood by carving thin slices of material from a slab of wood in detailed and careful strokes. The skills needed to be proficient takes raw talent, a lot of practice, or both. What chisels are not designed to do: remove excess dry glue from wood joints. Like... Sure... It might "work". Chisels are sharp as fuck. However, I see no benefit to following your approach. I in fact do see a plethora of possible risks. While the risks may not be assured, in my opinion, they definitely aren't worth the possible end result.

    • @juicy5816
      @juicy5816 2 роки тому +1

      @@FulcrumsEdge I get your point with chisels aren’t meant for scraping glue but it doesn’t affect the use of the chisel in any way. Although glue is water based it will not soak directly into the wood with squeeze out. The glue will only soak in if you wipe it/ rub It in. And the possible risks aren’t that impactful unless the persons chisel skills are terrible. You’ll probably find that not only luthiers but a lot of wood workers choose to scrape the glue after. It maybe the wrong way on paper and to a guide but at the end of the day it’s my preferred method and I’ve always found that it’s left me with better results. However, it doesn’t make a whole lot of difference as you’ll most likely have the sand the entire body for finish anyway. But as I said it’s my preferred method, it’s how I learnt and I’ve not had any bad results. Have a good day, I’ve enjoyed this debate very much 😁😁

    IVE WATCHED THIS BUILD THREE TIMES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS.
    I LOVE THE CLEAN LOOK OF PURE WHITE BINDING AND INLAYS.
    I REFINISHED MY SG SUPREME FROM A GREEN TO BLACK FADE WITH PISS YELLOW BINDING AND INLAY.
    TO A BLONDE FLAME MAPLE TOP WITH OPEN PORE MAHOGANY BACK AND PRISTEEN WHITE BINDING BY SCRAPING THE NITRO OFF WITH A RAZOR BLADE AND POLISHING WITH STEEL WOOL.
    I SANDED OFF THE YELLOW NITRO ON THE HEADSTOCK AND SHOT A NON YELLOWING LACQUER AND IT BLINGS NICE AND CLEAN.
    I ALSO RESHAPED THE STICKY NECK TO A SLIMMER PROFILE AND OILED IT.
    THEREFORE I LOVE YOUR WHITE FLYING V.
    THE ONLY THINGS ID CHANGE IS I WOULD ROUTE THE ELECTRONICS CAVITY FROM THE BACK AND LOSE THE PICKGAURD ALTOGETHER.
    AND THE THICKNESS OF THE BODY WOULD BE 1/4 INCH THINNER.
    POINTY TOP ON HEADSTOCK AND SHARP 90 ON THE BODIED INVERTED V.
    1980'sPOINTY GUITARS RULE.
    I AM CURRENTLY BUSY ACQUIRING ULTRA HIGH END WOODS LIKE BLACK BOG OAK AND 5AAAAA X CURLY TIGER .MAPLE FOR THE NECK THROUGH S AND TOPS.
    AND CURLY GABOON EBONY FOR THE FRETBOARDS.
    I ENVISION BLACK MOP INLAYS.
