I really enjoy watching your reviews. Besides you being very qualified, you are a good presenter. I'm going to repeat my suggestion of reviewing an LAG Rockline from the mid 90's, mostly bcz I own one, and feel, that it's the most comfortable guitar, that I've ever handled (which ISN'T a huge number - I can't play AT ALL). I got it very cheap, and even though I only play with it an hour a year at max, I still don't want to sell. I've had a very competent shredder type metal dude, that all the others at the art school were impressed by, to play on it, and he spoke very nicely about it - but would change the PUs, if it had been his. I've thought about painting it with flames, or covering it with 24 k gold, just for fun - or painting sculls and making silver scull knobs and stuff (I will make some to sell, if anyone is interested - I do "all" kinds of art/design) or something else stoopid, but will probably never get around to any of those things.. Really enjoy your channel..!!!!

12:58 Well, Gary Moore did actually have the neck pickup reversed back to its 'normal' position from about 1976-1989. The headstock repair is from when Gary was involved in a car crash sometime in the '80s (a van drove into the back of him) and it's also him who changed the knobs, bridge and tuners.
Yes, this is very much a Gary Moore guitar more than a Peter Green guitar. Every pic I've ever seen of Peter playing it, the guitar was in fantastic condition. No wear at all on the front of the guitar. Also, at that point it was much more red than yellow.
The guitar experienced a pretty significant break in the neck heel area in the car accident. Whoever fixed it did an almost miraculous job, as it is extremely hard to see the repair. There was a different repair to the headstock that is not as easily seen as the major break that must have happened later on. That one had dowels inserted on the side of the headstock near the E and B strings, and the finish touched up unlike the big break that is easily visible.
Saw the original guitar in Gary Moore’s hands several times but the first , in 1977 with Coliseum ll was a game changer for me, managed to sneak in to the sound check and hear him setup his tone.. wonderful.

BIG thanks to that viewer for hooking you (and us) up! Also, let's dispel the myth that KH paid 2 mil for it. He didn't. More like 500K-700K. Neck PU sounds great! I'll throw a set of those in my '21 Standard Lemonburst when they're available
@@trueherofit3317 Yep! It was on "That Metal Show" with Kirk and Michael Schenker. I'd forgotten about that. I'm sure much of Kirk's $$$ is tied up in investments, so his actual cash is perhaps limited?
I'd be interested to know if the neck pickup has been wound with Heavy Formvar wire like the real thing. You'd like to think so in a $50000 guitar but who knows.
It would have been cool if they included some photos of the original within the case candy so you can see to compare what they have aged on this guitar. I know there are plenty of pics online but just think it would be a nice addition. Especially for $50k
This was a fantastic episode. Thank you! I've been a big Gary Moore fan for years and count myself lucky to have seen him live. By the way, your guitar playing has improved a lot since the start of your channel.
50k. In my state the tax alone would buy a nice Standard. Then again I’m a player, and believe vaults are for items of historic value, guitars should be played. This relic thing was out of hand before they cost 50k. Thanks for the daily vid tho!
Thanks to your fan and you for making this review/documentation happen! Even though it's ridiculous, it's still very cool to know what it's all about 🤘
With it being a 2022, I cannot find a single feature on this guitar that justifies a $50k price tag. One is going for $85K on reverb. Gibson really takes advantage of their fans who will give them their money no matter what, and it's hard to blame Gibson for that.
Honestly, Gibson are 100% stuck in the past. There are sooo many quality of life modern features that they just don't have that guitars with half their price tags do.
I mean, this guitar was exclusively for the ridiculously wealthy to meet Kirk Hammett. No one who pays more than the average person's years wages for a guitar is paying for the guitar, they're paying for resale value, or in this case, the intangible (and therefore super expensive) value of meeting a cool guitar guy. But Gibson have absolutely lost their way. They're a lifestyle or fashion brand. Happens to a lot of formerly groundbreaking and popular brands. Supreme used to sell skater stuff, now they just put a logo on a brick and sell it for 500$. Which is kind of fitting considering about the most unique aspect of this guitar is the carved wood block it comes with.
If it's just a recreation, I don't see why it's so expensive. It wasn't owned by anyone. It's not old. It's just a regular Les Paul, someone beat the hell out of. It's awesome, and I love to have one for $1200. 😆
A fantastic review well done and and kudos to the real owner for this. Have always been a massive Peter Green and Garry More fan , the greeny really has been some guitar over the years. And love how it's being played now by kirk on the road that's just class tbh. Seeing metalica live and seeing greeny being played is a must ,good job I like metalica. The job they have done on this is exceptional and the pickups sound incredible.
I agree those pickups sound bloody excellent! A set of great pickups can make a huge difference in your tone and playing. I've always loved my Gibson custombuckers and Wolfetone "legends" pickups. A good guitar and some good pickups and you got your own personal Mojo!
Great to see all the details of this thing. Just for fun I would really love to see a Vintage brand V100 PGM model get the Trogly treatment. They go for about £250 here and sound/play amazingly well. The story goes that Seth Lover gave Trevor Wilkinson some inside info on the PAF manufacturing process and the Vintage model uses that secret sauce. Who knows, but they sound great and have the out of phase magnet/wiring setup too (and the super important mismatched reflector knobs 😁)
I put a pair of those Wilkinson PAF pickups in a cheap LP copy and I flipped the neck pickup magnet. It sounds great. I think I got the pickups for 20 pounds on ebay. Bargain.
Wow, thanks to the buyer. And thanks Trog for this thorough demo. This guitar and the pickups especially reflect what I'd hope for in such a gem of a Custom Shop instrument. All those tones... Beautiful!
I am no pro,but this looks to me like its some of if not The Best relic Job done by Gibson. Thanks to the owner of this piece and to Austin for showcasing it)

Good breakdown of this guitar Trogly, thanks and also thanks to the person that delivered it! The only time I saw “Greeny” in person was when I saw Gary Moore playing it at the Beacon Theatre in NYC in May ‘92. Needless to say I was blown away!
Although aged guitars are really not my thing (and I have views about the corporate nature of the buyers event and how that sits with the so-called rock n roll ethos!), you have to admire the craftsmanship and painstaking skill and attention to detail that went into this - it truly is a work of art for those that would appreciate it. I have to also say a massive "thanks" to the owner and to Trogly for allowing this to be shown to us all and dissected in such a way - what a treat!! Thank you and good health to you both - from Ireland.
I liked the way Gibson got the sharp points of the inlays right!! $50k.. mmm no..but to some 50 or so people it was a huge YES!! So many details ..it was awesome to see!! Thanks Trogs!! Along with the person who supplied it for the demo!!
Would love to see a comparison with the 2013 Gary Moore Les Paul Standard (Tribute/sort of Signature). Looks like this one but not relic’d, also with the switched around pickup and mismatched knobs.
Those are the best Gibson made pick ups I’ve ever heard you play on the show in a Paul… I mean even on UA-cam and I’ve watched a lot of your videos ,those sound killer😊
That thing sounds absolutely fantastic! It just had that "thing" from the very first chord you played in the demo. I hope whatever mojo they put into the Greeny replica's electronics makes it into more attainable models!
There's no electronic mojo. Just some good pickups made to the older specs and some standard pots and wire. The only mojo is in the player and how good the guitar feels to that player.
I have studied pick up manufacturer for years and I believe the magnets were A2 I made some A2 pickups for a 58 replica a friend built and I dropped my a2 pickups into that guitar with 50's wiring and sozo caps and it sounds every bit as good as an old Gibson hmmm I wonder if Gibson waxed the pickups
What is your amp and pedal setup for the demo? This thing sounds fantastic. Am very curious to see if these pickups show up in a more affordable version.
if you want to hear this guitar in all its glory, listen to John Mayall the Super Natural. Peter Green wrote the song and recorded it as a birthday gift to PG. you could also listen to most fleetwood mac songs during the time that PG was leading his band. outstanding guitar work and terrific tone.
You've answered my question 🙂 I was wondering if the Custom Shop had actually broken the headstock and then repaired it just like it was done back then... I would assume that, at this price, they would have done just that 😄 but no... They also re-installed the non-locking Sperzels like Gary Moore did back then... Interesting piece of collection...
my sg has about a 1/4 inch deep rub mark right there. thats why i now have scratch plates on all my guitars. even my acoustic the scratch gard is almost worn though. i was sure that Garry put grovers on greeny.
That looks incredibly close to the real thing! I hope they make a version like it but, I liked the way the guitar looked around the time when Peter sold it to Gary!
Sweet review, well done. Aged and relic'd rigs aren't my thing, but I really enjoyed seeing the attention to detail and appreciating the tremendous effort poured into this guitar. Great episode, Austin!
I would totally rock a Gibson Wooden COA. Totally. Its somewhat pickup shaped. They could do smaller soap bar sized ones. Very good relic job to create a rare piece of memorabilia. I think the best part of this is having Gibson study the original to see exactly how it produced its fantastic tones. Btw, the Mona Lisa was painted on a board, and it has a crack in it too, but it was also painted in 1410, a bit earlier than most of the paintings in the Louvre. Reliced guitars are interesting, but I would not rock one. Its memorabilia, not a working instrument. A piece of history, owned by two dead guys, and someone who looks like he is on deaths door knocking loudly. I have watched a *lot* of videos of Gary Moore, and only saw him live twice, and produced unique tones with the original, I listen to him often, and it has improved my playing because of it. My first Les paul mod was to turn around the bridge pickup, and make a phase switch that turned it back around to play normally. I also turned around the pickup on a tonemaster, after seeing if it would work, and it did, it worked well. As much as I know about Gary Moore's techniques, It would be fun to play with one of this videos, and get closer to his sound than my other efforts, he had enormous subtlety in his picking too, the strength of his left hand also contributed to his tone. I wish that people studied his tones as much as David Gilmores. One of the best examples of this is when Gary Moore was invited to play with George Harrison on stage, playing 'While my guitar gently weeps' and you can see George Harrison smile as Gary Moore wails away. When 'Corridors of power' came on the radio for the first time, we had to literally stop, turn around, find a record store, and buy it, take it home and play it. Great weekend. I still listen to it often enough to recognize all the music. I can't remember if Gary Moore was with Thin Lizzy when I saw them, but when ever he came to town, I would go see him, which was unfortunately only twice. Rich guys guitars are for rich guys, but music is for everyone, it is to celebrate and share. Go and listen to some Gary Moore, and the whole album 'Corridors of Power' and really any and all of Gary Moors work. This replica, was just his favorite tool.
WOW as soon as the first few notes of the demo came on the bridge tone sounded the best I have ever heard on here! In the hands of a Bukavac level player can you say Gold Records sales songs!?!
First time coming across your channel, purely because of "Greenie". Not a huge fan of the aging but I get it due to the history of the guitar and I can dig it. Fantastic review, guitar sounds amazing.
So from me to your friend that brought this so you could document it thank you thank you from the bottom of my heart thank you This means the world to me thank you very much and thank you trogly for making this possible
It's crazy because Gary pay guitar around 150$ to Peter. He actually sold his main gutar SG for that Greeny, and later he sold that same guitar for over 800k - 1.2m. He doesn't bother collecting guitar. Every custom will do the job. And I absolutely agree with that. 1959 LP custom is enough 🙂
Fair play to the owner offering the guitar for review and teardown. I bet there will be an epiphone model too. As well as whatever Gibsons they bring out
I'd love to see this refinished. BTW, the wood grain doesn't match that of the original ..at least, they could've tried and used a different chunk of the same tree? I doubt you would find any trace Green/Moore/Hammett DNA on this one, that's another deal breaker for me - 1,300 incl shipping.
A truly beautiful guitar, I wish I could afford one. Have you had the Billy Gibbons pearly gates Les Paul on your channel yet? I really wanted one of those, but I couldn't afford it. But I'd like to see you review one.
Definitely not for me…. Don’t like this worn abused put together half*assed repaired type of replica guitars, don’t really care how limited it is. The only Les Paul limited edition I liked was the “Corvette”
So the idea of this guitar is really cool. I appreciate respect it but honestly.. I don't really like the dirty lemon color that much besides black white the widow colors in custom colors to me vintage first tobacco Burst and factory burst you're really the nicest colors as far as the traditional colors go everything else to me is just kind of mmeh.. in the price tag on this makes it even less attractive.. but learning about this guitar in this video made it all worthwhile for this review for me anyway.. I do absolutely love the relic King though especially the back.. I've always loved to beat up guitars and I know the whole relegating thing is quite controversial but after being a touring musician.. especially metal musician.. I've learned to love beat up looking guitarist and when it comes to relicing it's like you have the awesome look without the guitar playing like it looks if you could have a guitar that plays really well that looks like it has a long story that's awesome in my book. My prophecy is in pretty good condition but I have a white custom that's beat to shit looking and has some yellow spots and I love it like that
Right tell this pickup special. Almost 10 k is a sweet spot for most pickups. You get as a metal guitarist you would expect super high gain pickups is what most of us like but really if you have a nice high gain amp the best sounding pickups are really between 7.8 to 10.5. The only pickups that are hot you'll find stock in a Gibson or Epiphone that really sounded any good on a high gain amp are dirty fingers. But these pickups of course have that paf sound but to me they also have a little bit of something extra. I do got to say the dirty tones like I've been saying are great but I wish you also gave more of a high Gain tone. If you turn the gain up a little bit more like a metal setting on your amp this pickups would probably be fucking amazing sounding
Paint ageing looks great but I would have expected much more wood wear especially on the back. Not worth $50k to me (I’d need to be much wealthier to justify it) but I would invest in an original LP with that sort of money. Sounds way better cleaned up. Special thanks to the owner for this. Nice one.👍

BIG thanks to that viewer for hooking you (and us) up! Also, let's dispel the myth that KH paid 2 mil for it. He didn't. More like 500K-700K. Neck PU sounds great! I'll throw a set of those in my '21 Standard Lemonburst when they're available
He paid 500k there’s an interview where he talks about it. Said he had to sell a few movie posters to buy it lol
@@trueherofit3317 ironically, for such a famous guitar, it only being “twice as much” as a typical burst almost seems like a good deal?
He said not even 500k.. so I guess like 400k or 450k
I agree with you on Gibson providing wooden COA’s on their “special” guitars, that would be way cool!
It would have been cool if they included some photos of the original within the case candy so you can see to compare what they have aged on this guitar. I know there are plenty of pics online but just think it would be a nice addition. Especially for $50k
$50,000 price for Hemmet Would be cool for if he paid that on the original
be cool if Hammet popped out of the case for 50k
be cool of the actual greenie was in there for 50k
This was a fantastic episode. Thank you! I've been a big Gary Moore fan for years and count myself lucky to have seen him live. By the way, your guitar playing has improved a lot since the start of your channel.
50k. In my state the tax alone would buy a nice Standard. Then again I’m a player, and believe vaults are for items of historic value, guitars should be played. This relic thing was out of hand before they cost 50k.
Thanks for the daily vid tho!
Props to your buddy for letting you document this one, I fear a lot of these will end up being case queens.
While it might play and feel really good, it is not exactly a looker.....🥱
Trogly is a collector. All of the guitars he reviews are “case queens.”
Why not play it....add some more character to it,hell, carve your own initials into it " gasp"!
@@mtmusicgear Well, sorta... he does sell a lot of what he reviews.
Thanks to your fan and you for making this review/documentation happen! Even though it's ridiculous, it's still very cool to know what it's all about 🤘
The genius of Tom Murphy- the work on making that guitar appear the way it does is remarkable.
I was lucky to purchase a proper Murphy R9 from a collector last year, his work really is something else.
if this was just a regular les paul in this condition listed on reverb the offers would be real low
@@chrisclassical7 I love me some reliced Strats and Teles, but doing it to a beautiful flame maple top on a Les Paul just seems wrong to me. JMO.
@@a.r.1611 yeah, they'll be in trouble when their main customers base dies out.
If it's just a recreation, I don't see why it's so expensive. It wasn't owned by anyone. It's not old. It's just a regular Les Paul, someone beat the hell out of. It's awesome, and I love to have one for $1200. 😆
Completely agree. Gibson are just rip off merchants with all these 'Collector' guitars!
The epiphone Greenie is a steal at $22,500.....
You say you're a massive "Garry More" fan, but don't know the right way to spell his name?
I agree those pickups sound bloody excellent! A set of great pickups can make a huge difference in your tone and playing. I've always loved my Gibson custombuckers and Wolfetone "legends" pickups. A good guitar and some good pickups and you got your own personal Mojo!
Glenn Fricker would like a word with you, lol. (I agree that pickups do, in fact, matter.)
Adam Jones from Tool was seen playing a prototype at one of the recent Tool concerts a few mpnths back
Amazing! What an awesome guitar and amazing hookup! 🤘🙏🤗
Thanks to the owner of this piece and to Austin for showcasing it)
I agree completely!
@@casinoguitar371 @casinoguitars? Guys, when will you realize that YOU WONT STEAL OUR $..Stop Trying lol
"JOINED UA-cam 17 HOURS AGO" hahahah you guys are pathetic xD
Many thanks to the owner for sharing his beautiful piece of Gibson history 👏
Well they absolutely nailed the tone. Early Peter Green for days.
Question
Are the pickups out of phase?
Like green left them
Would love to see a comparison with the 2013 Gary Moore Les Paul Standard (Tribute/sort of Signature).
I mean it sounds like a guitar
What is your amp and pedal setup for the demo? This thing sounds fantastic. Am very curious to see if these pickups show up in a more affordable version.
if you want to hear this guitar in all its glory, listen to John Mayall the Super Natural. Peter Green wrote the song and recorded it as a birthday gift to PG. you could also listen to most fleetwood mac songs during the time that PG was leading his band. outstanding guitar work and terrific tone.
Should do a comparison with the CC1 greeny, it will be interesting.
That was awesome and those pickups sound fantastic - thanks again Trogly
I guess to get a guitar with a similar vibe, would a standard but with bareknuckle PG blues pickups get you pretty close?
What lick is that at the 20:14 mark? its escaping me, hopefully someone can tell me what song its from.
I'm glad this guitar exists...but no way do I see $50000.00.
Why is the neck yellow where the neck connect to the body going down to the pickup?
Masive respect to the viewer for bring the guitar 💪
my sg has about a 1/4 inch deep rub mark right there. thats why i now have scratch plates on all my guitars. even my acoustic the scratch gard is almost worn though.
i was sure that Garry put grovers on greeny.
Can anyone tell me what song he's playing at 22:52? I know I've heard it somewhere.
Big shout out and thanks to the fan who hand delivered this to Trogly!
That might be the best sounding guitar you’ve had on the program!?!?! Not to mention that it looks dope!
I think the Les Paul Standard 82 he had last night sounded better.
Wow! That sounds great! Unfortunately I would be willing to "correct" the neck pickup orientation to ease my neurosis.
That looks incredibly close to the real thing! I hope they make a version like it but, I liked the way the guitar looked around the time when Peter sold it to Gary!
Was hoping to hear “Oh Well” played on this beast. Love the tones. If they do a “players grade” version, or maybe just sell the pickup alone, I’m in.
I was thinking Rattlesnake Shake?
Sweet review, well done. Aged and relic'd rigs aren't my thing, but I really enjoyed seeing the attention to detail and appreciating the tremendous effort poured into this guitar. Great episode, Austin!
Thanks for the video and to the owner...I really did wait til the end to comment if you had left the neck pickup in " wrong"!
This replica, was just his favorite tool.
awesome stuff! at the end of the day, I don't see no difference from a normal modern historic reissue. I don't see the 50K value at all
THANK YOU TROGLY VIEWER FOR LETTING TROGLY DOCUMENT THIS FOR THE REST OF US. MUCH APPRECIATED!
that yellow flame top colorway is one of my favorite with les pauls
been looking for a really nice les paul with that colorway
Sounds really good, did you do something different with your amp or is it really that tasty?
$$50K? No way!
Dang those pickups sound amazing!
Aren't they acually Custombucker Alnico III?
WOW as soon as the first few notes of the demo came on the bridge tone sounded the best I have ever heard on here! In the hands of a Bukavac level player can you say Gold Records sales songs!?!
First time coming across your channel, purely because of "Greenie". Not a huge fan of the aging but I get it due to the history of the guitar and I can dig it. Fantastic review, guitar sounds amazing.
How awesome! What a killer viewer to let you document this beast 😂
So is the neck pickup heavy formvar wire?
$50k for a guitar. Unreal.
What a great video. I still don't think any guitar in the world is worth that kind of money, but it definitely sounded amazing.
Maybe not a brand new guitar...
at 21:38 what is that riff he's playing?
Fair play to the owner offering the guitar for review and teardown.
I bet there will be an epiphone model too. As well as whatever Gibsons they bring out
Z is for late. Respect for this instrument.
Good evening Sgt.
This is the first relic model guitar that I think looks cool. Thanks to the owner who shared this beauty. Great review!
Very muchly appreciate the up close look, though I have to say I am very curious about the aged finish under a black light, for no real reason.
I really don‘t get why someone wants to buy or even collect or even pay that amount of money for a Les Paul. They are just boring as poop
Congratulations ☝️☝️☝️I have a package for you 🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁.
I’d buy that for a dollar. Said the fool on tv in the movie RoboCop.
That thing sounds fantastic what amp are you running her through ?
Maybe they actually found the Beano Burst and that’s next years 50k replica 😮
Thanks to all involved with this.. showing this beauty .. the original being my favorite les paul ever
Can't believe people actually pay big money for that junk
Congratulations ☝️☝️☝️I have a package for you 🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁.
Was waiting eagerly for this to happen!
A truly beautiful guitar, I wish I could afford one. Have you had the Billy Gibbons pearly gates Les Paul on your channel yet? I really wanted one of those, but I couldn't afford it. But I'd like to see you review one.
Great playing Austin! Thanks for sharing this guitar - and thanks to your viewer who brought it in
Definitely not for me…. Don’t like this worn abused put together half*assed repaired type of replica guitars, don’t really care how limited it is.
The only Les Paul limited edition I liked was the “Corvette”
Fairly used 📍 fender vintera 70s telecaster deluxe available
Love the pickups, I can see grabbing those when available. Not going to invest in the whole guitar. Great playing Austin.
Second that, the minute they become available I'm getting them
What an absolutely hilarious waste of money this guitar is.
That's one killer piece of maple they used for the top!
Big Thank to the owner for letting you document and share this amazing guitar!
My prophecy is in pretty good condition but I have a white custom that's beat to shit looking and has some yellow spots and I love it like that
26:49 Wrong era of Fleetwood Mac for that guitar
Next one should be Jimmy Page's Les Paul #1.
Brilliant . Thank you both
Right tell this pickup special. If you turn the gain up a little bit more like a metal setting on your amp this pickups would probably be fucking amazing sounding
how
You made the podium for today and earned a Bronze Medal.
yay
I hope 1983 Kirk Hammett is cringing at the 2022 Kirk for being a part of this whole gross thing
Paint ageing looks great but I would have expected much more wood wear especially on the back. Not worth $50k to me (I’d need to be much wealthier to justify it) but I would invest in an original LP with that sort of money. Sounds way better cleaned up. Special thanks to the owner for this. Nice one.👍
