You sir are a genius. Mine would hesitate when it’s below 40 degrees. I found the capacitor partially damaged and had buildup on the terminals. I replaced it from amazon and now it opens with so much force it feels it’s going to rip the door off. Liked and sub’d and thank you!!!
Thanks for the video Brad. Saved me a service call and a capacitor replacement. That's provided the service guy identified that as being the problem and didn't try to rip me off saying i needed a new one.
Thank you so very much, 😊 you described the noise that I was hearing from the motor exactly, and you demonstrated how to fix it perfectly. I am a 75-year-old woman and can't wait to tell my mechanic brother that I fixed the garage door opener😅
Had the same exact problem with my 30 year old garage door opener (humming noise when pressing the opener). I ordered a new capacitor for $13 and replaced it in 5 minutes and BOOM all good!!! Thanks for saving me a ton of money - we’ll see how much longer this old garage door opener works before having to replace it, but I’ll take a $13 fix over replacing the opener and paying for a service call any day!!!
Thank you sir for very clear and concise instructions. I had the exact same problem and your step by step instructions helped resolve the issue in 10 minutes and saved me from a big expensive service call.
You are awesome! Followed your instructions, and the next afternoon when I got the capacitor from Amazon, BOOM it worked. Thanks a ton and my wallet thanks you also!
@@markstauder7338 many people have had this issue and I hope it’s as easy as switching your wires around. Try that and let me know. Good luck! Remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends!
Brad, you are AWESOME! I followed your video and it worked for me. I have Genie intellicode. The capacitor arrived next day from Amazon, and boom boom boom💥, my humming garage door lifter is back in business!!!! (I was sure it was toast, boy was I wrong...thanks again)
This was a very helpful and well-done video. It cost me $15 instead of over $200 for a new garage door opener. It was an easy fix after watching your informative video.
Good luck! Hope it’s your problem and it becomes an easy fix. Thanks for watching and remember to like and subscribe and tell your friends. Also feel free to send those Super Thanks!
I'm hoping that's my problem. And did you realize that you could have gotten Zapped by that undischarged capacitor?! People be careful when your messing with a Cap that large . . . Yup. That was it. Not even Genie TS mentioned that. But the Motorhead did work intermittently.
Hi. I need help. I have the same motor and I dont now how to connect receiver board. The receiver board is on the right side near the capacitor. It have 3 Wires (one Green, one Violet and Black) the same as U. Where are these 3 Wires connected? Can U help me please.
I had the same problem with my capacitor. It had blown and was smoking during operation. I replaced it with one that was "too big" for the housing but the door worked fine the first few passes. But NOW it only moves about a foot before it stops. It seems like the whole thing shuts off on some kind of failsafe because I cant operate it again until ITS ready. Kinda at the end of my rope here...I checked every other "problem area" and since I didnt mess with anything else Im not sure what the issue is. Any ideas?
Hi... I have a Genie Pro garage door opener and one of the sensors is green and the other one is red. I have the wiring and they are OK. The other problem that I have is that the opener is humming. Please advise. Thank you.
If you're talking about the obstruction sensors down by either side of the door, then those colors indicate that the sensing beam is not aimed properly from one sensor to the other. The one that is green is likely the transmiting sensor, and it being lit green indicates that it is receiving power. The one that is red is likely the receiving sensor, and it being lit red indicates that it is not receiving the beam from the transmitter sensor. There should be a wing nut, or similar, just behind the bracket from the receiving (red lit) sensor, just loosen that and move the sensor around to re-aim it until its light turns green, then re-tighten to keep it there. . I had a similar issue, which prevent my garage door from fully closing properly (it would start, stop, and flash) since the opener thought the path was obstructed as it couldn't see the beam clearly enough (mine was slightly flickering green instead of fully red). Re-aligning the two sensors cleard the phantom obstruction and now the door works as expected again.
Nice garage, but why in gods name didn’t the original installer take the track all the way up to the ceiling and maximize that ceiling height?!?! I would kill to have a 10 foot ceiling. Especially handy when putting the car up on a hoist
Check your wiring, make sure you have it back in the same place it was when you took it off. Maybe try that. Could be a quick trouble shoot. Good luck!
Did you make sure the wires were in the correct locations as they were before? If not this could cause the door to still have the remaining issues with the humming noise, so make sure your wiring is accurate. If it is, then let me see if I can check in to any other trouble shooting ideas for you. Thanks again and remember to like and subscribe!!!!
Thanks. Had the same noise, but only on the open - intermittently. Not sure if I need a capacitor yet, but I did make some adjustments, and took a photo of the capacitor in case the problem persists. Either way, saved me from buying a new motor.
Tried safety eyes ... nothing. Tried capacitor ... nothing. Tried circuit board ... nothing. Does that mean the motor itself is shot? What else can I check. The motor looks great, clean and like new so I'm having a hard time believing it is shot.
Same for me. I replaced the capacitor and coupler (which I found was not worn out) no dice. Still buzzing. Hoping not the motor here to. I think mine may be the screw drive itself binding. So I am going to try and lubricate it and spin it some to see if I can get it going. Were you able to get yours fixed?
Terrible. Should always tell people to unplug electricity PRIOR TO doing ANYTHING. I am a dummy so guess I had to learn the hard way ! your video may have been less costly had you warned BEFORE the video started ! Thanks for the $300 lesson. NOT !
At 2:18 in his video he clearly says, "First thing you're going to want to do before getting in here and going crazy, is always pull the plug." Even shows the plug in the video. Didn't say to discharge the capacitor, but did say to pull the plug and did so before he continued. Did you short something with it still plugged in? With your screwdriver? Regardless, you should always be careful working inside of anything powered by 120-220 volt outlets. Especially if they have capacitors.

The wires crossed?

Check your manual (or Google your model) and try to reset the open/closed positions. And in addition yours could be stuck on the track.
