- Out of hundreds of reviews, it's come to the gents' attention that they've neglected a review of perhaps the most famous bourbon in America. Whatever will they find in the unknown depths of... JIM BEAM?

Yea i honestly never understood the hate for Jim Beam white label. For the price tag, it's pretty damn solid
Yeah, so many people hate on brands just because they have a large market share. My father-in-law will only drink Jim Beam and I'd never knock him for it. I like trying different whiskeys, so Jim Beam can be a little boring compared to other options, but it is by no means bad.
It's smooth but has no flavor. It's good for a beginner but Evan Williams Black Label is a better budget Bourbon for those who respect taste IMO.

Jim Beam was my dad's spirit of choice. He liked it with diet Pepsi or 7 up. He passed almost 8 years ago. I have the Ducks Unlimited bottle he was given by a friend shortly before he passed and I'll have a pour for him on his birthday.

What I remember about Beam are the special bottles my old man used to collect.
Jim Beam is actually a high quality whiskey sold at a decent price. Don't listen to anyone until you taste it. They been making good sipping whiskey longer than you been alive.
Sipping? I just drink it. I don't sip it like I would Chivas

I personally quite like this stuff, it's quite cheap in most places and very palatable. It's pretty much just a bourbon that's not too exciting. Also it's fantastic in coffee.
Beam...it's $20 bucks a bottle. It's drunk by people who work hard and want a buzz, and these are tough times, so it's nice to have something you can afford that you know. I can't afford many of the items you guys review.

As someone in the EU where bourbon is more expensive/limited in my area, at the end of the day I like to eat a square of dark chocolate and then sip some Jim Beam. Jim Beam is often on sale were as drinks like Monkey Shoulder, Wild Turkey, Buffalo Trace etc.. aren't and end up being about 2.5-3x times as expensive.
Always has been and always will be my favorite bourbon for tailgating and camping; brings back lots of old memories.
JB is what got me into whiskey...Remember I got rich oak on my very first try that immediately brought back playing with sticks in the backyard as a kid (breaking limbs, sap on the hands). Was so neat to get that experience from a drink and so I kept going back, getting leather, bananas and cream until the bottle was all gone! Tried a lot more whiskeys since then but you'll never catch me talking bad about Jim Beam
I cant tell if Jim beam is hated or not when it comes to whisky, I hate the taste of alchohol but this stuff actually tastes amazing especially the vanilla flavor, it’s smooth and I can chug a good amount without getting a hangover. Clean stuff for sure compared to other stuff I’ve tried
IMO Beam white label is a perfectly serviceable bourbon. Its got a good flavor, is decent for use in mixed drinks, and is a good whiskey that non- whiskeynerd friends enjoy for parties. Not bad for a good drink while playing some video games or painting either. Not gonna lie, I always keep a big handle of it on my bar.

Daniel your movie reference there hits my childhood to a certain level (I’m 22, technically been drinking whiskey since like 17 or 18) that I have so much more respect for this show and you in general. The princess bride movie was one of the most quoted movies in our family. Thanks for being the best reviewers on UA-cam guys.
I went a long time without having Jim Beam. I finally bought a bottle for a party and was pleasantly surprised at the decent flavor. This is not a bourbon I would write home about but it is consistent and tasty and good for mixed drinks and even drinking on its own. It holds its own in the world of whisky and should be respected for that, nothing more, nothing less.
This was my gateway whiskey honestly. I hate jack daniels for whatever reason, and it turned me off of whiskey in general. But I started watching you guys and Jeremy Siers, and decided to try again. I grabbed some Jim Beam white label on sale for 15 bucks, and now I’m seriously enjoying my journey through bourbons, and eyeing the Irish whiskey for my next branch, then on to scotch!!
As a gateway whiskey, it’s perfect. It’s approachable like Jameson but for a little less money. Also if someone has never tried bourbon before, Jim Beam is a good option because it’s so basic and hits all the classic bourbon notes.
@@skraegorn7317 as a gateway whiskey, I have to say that Jim Beam white label is great for my first ever bottle of bourbon. It has that caramel or dark chocolate aroma to it with spiciness on the palate with a surprisingly smooth finish. It does well whether neat or on the rocks I just love it.

I enjoyed Jack until I didn't. Too many bad nights, plus it started to taste sweet after a while. Switched to Jim Beam white and Ezra Brooks. Goddamn they are both solid bourbons. Got me into good bourbons, so I'm not complaining.
Jim Beam is my go to drink for my hip flask when I go on a snowboarding holiday. Simply because no matter where you go you can find a bottle of this for a reasonable price. Keeping it as a drink for this purpose gives a special place in my heart.
The raw energy radiating from this video could power a household for millennia. Still watch it all the way through
Beam is a great inexpensive whiskey when you're drinking for a buzz rather than flavor. Makes a good whiskey and coke and it's cheap enough to share a 1.75 liter with your friends while you watch a game.
growing up, I always drank Crown Royal. Then one day my dad gave me a blind taste test between Crown and Jim Beam. Sure they're not the same style of liquor, but I didn't know that at the time. All I know is that the Jim Beam tasted much better to me so I started drinking it pretty regularly after that.

I agree. EWB and WT101 are very good budget sippin' whiskeys. JBW is OK too, but a definite third place to the first two.

That is one extremely common Bourbon here in Sweden. It's almost in every liquer store here. As of now there's between 10-30 700ml bottles, and 15-35 350ml bottles in almost every of our 448 stores. 🤗
Beam-Suntory is a multinational giant with immense reach, so, yeah, that's gonna happen.
I seem to remember that when you did the top ten budget whiskeys, JB surprised you both by showing up top three.

Aye glad to see I ain’t the only one that basically gets peanut and vanilla. The vanilla Jim beam tastes like a rice crispy treat to me.
I always get a sweet apple candy on this one. It was my first bourbon, and for the price I find it pretty good!
I've been looking, since I had a bad experience with it about 15 years ago, but have you guys really never done an episode on Tyrconnell Irish Single Malt? I found it very aggressive and chemical-tasting at the time and haven't tried it since. Still, I'd be curious what you guys make of it (keeping in mind that apparently the brand vanished and then came back, or something, between 2006 and today, so it's possible that you're not experiencing the same whiskey that I did).
I bet Rex is slowly increasing the height of his pant cuffs, so he doesn’t have to summon the whiskey mootch power eagle 🦅 and just smuggle a bottle in each cuff out of the vault.
I got sick after drinking Beam once, not because of the Beam but it was in my system, but I haven’t been able to touch bourbon since. I like Suntory Toki, Laphroaig 10, and before whiskey, spiced rum was my go to. What should I try to get back into bourbon?

hey Rex and Danniel... long time watcher/ first time commenter. I have tried jim beam a handful of times before, and my experience during those can be summed up in 2 words: PAINT THINNER.
However, after a bit of hydration, and while watching this video, i tried a little 200ml bottle of JBWL... and i have to agree... licorice note, light honey, and dusty corn.... deffinately better than i thought initially :D thanks for opening my pallet to cheaper bourbon!
It's the best bourbon. If you are into minimalism. I am. Four Roses yellow is good as well. Both are great in their simplicity.
Is that available in my town? These small makers are so hard to find.

@@magicelven LOL! Sorry, I have a dry sense of humor. Here in the US, Jim Beam is in every single liquor store, in 3 different sizes. The joke was that so many of the spirits the guys review are hard to find and this one... is common as they get.

It would be cool if you did a distillery review. Do like a plain cheap everyday all the way to high end expensive. Then kinda cover the evolution of taste and character between them.
curious to know if there would be much difference between this white label and the white label they send to Australia that is only 37% abv.
My dad always kept a bottle of Jim Beam under the kitchen sink. He drank it with ice and a splash of water. A bottle would probably last him 6 months. When I turned 21 it was my first purchase and I used to drink it with coke. Eventually I graduated to the green label (which is not available anymore) with ice and water. Nowadays I prefer Old Forester.
Would love to see you guys review the whiskys that are being made in 6-10 days. These are the whiskys in which the distillers are using pressure and forcing the spirit into the wood. Distillers like Lost Spirit and Cleveland. Thoughts?

Found Jim Beam to be good as a high ball. Discovered this in Japan at a great little Italian restaurant. Lol. True story.
I live in Japan and Jim Beam is heavily advertised for hi-balls. You can buy it in 5L plastic jugs too!

I got into whisky at a young age, originally through Jim beam, which got me into Bourbon, then with jameson bringing me into Irish. Next challenge is Scotch, what's the best gateway? Tried johnny walker Red and black both taste like farts to me (black lesser so ). any help would be grateful.

Oh, I laughed at the lacquer thinner, because I can relate. I don’t expect they will ever say, “You know, on the aftertaste, I am getting notes of lacquer thinner.”

Great review. I consider myself a noob and would not recommend giving this to a noob. Start them with something exceptional and let them work their own way to cheaper bourbons. I think classic Jim Beam is fine if you just want a cheap sipper that is not offensive.
I regularly drink neat whiskey and although I probably drink more Beam than anything else, I find neat Beam to be quite abrasive. I've had guests who wanted to drink "Bourbon" who I had to convince to add more water. Or who asked for water after initially asking for none.
My favorite drink lately is the Jim beam apple. Does anyone have recommendations for anything similar?

I like the "going down the Rabbit Hole" at 8:24. It reminded me of when the wife and I, a few weeks ago, decided to have a Kentucky Bourbon Trail Tour at home. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail officially has 18 distilleries, but not all of them produce Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. So, we created some basic criteria and ended buying and tasting fifteen bourbons. Mind you, we know nothing about tasting. 😊
We ended up voting for Rabbit Hole, which led me to look up if you had a video about it. Found one published back on 9/13/2017 (ep 189… Ep 189: Rabbit Hole Bourbon Whiskey Review / Tasting with Bulleit, Monkey Shoulder/Tomatin 12 Cameo). From a kilt wearer to a kilt wearer, you look great, Daniel.
Anyway, it was interesting to watch your take on the Rabbit Hole. You did not say anything negative but did not find anything standing out, especially for a $60 bourbon bottle. Your reaction was more around the fact that Rabbit Hole would be more "generic" and could have been designed that way to please masses (not directly quoting and could be off). I think that this could be the reason why Rabbit Hole ended up being our favorite due to its more approachable profile for less trained whiskey amateurs like us.

When I went to see Iron Maiden in 2019, I ended up paying $22 for a "Jim and Diet...double". I was actually surprised at how good it was in Diet Coke, on ice. Could have done without the "concert price" on the drink, though.
That 'Big League Chew' sugar powder is CORN STARCH in the heavily CORN whiskey.
Yeah, I was thinking that, too. the dust on candy is often confectioner's sugar which contains a lot of corn starch.

So, Joshua Brown, The answer to your question "Has there ever been a episode on the feature wall?" The answer is.......... NO.
Can we figure out what's up there now or what the 12 categories should be? I'd guess they'd do 6 quintessential scotches for each region (Islay, Campbelltown, highland, lowland, Speyside, and islands), an Irish, a Japanese, a "world" whiskey, a rye, a bourbon, and a wheater.
I can't tell all of what's on the shelf now, but it looks like Auchentoshan, Jameson, Redbreast, Laphroaig/Lagavulin, Buffalo Trace, Kavalan, possibly Makers 46, and possibly Kilchoman.
@@Jeshwa15 Yes, all of what you are asking is what a lot of people are asking. but I don't think they have even nailed down all the categories, let alone the actual quintessential whiskies.
I'd say you are probably right on the ones you name, but I also have seen others on the wall, and empty shelves at times. Not just the Laphroaig/Lagavulin. By the way I think the Redbreast is a new addition it hadn't been there before.

I love Jim Beam I’ve been drinking in it for like 20 years I’ve had other bourbons but I always go back to this it pairs well with my Budweiser unfortunately people like this always seem to review it and not give it the props it’s do but I guess if I had didn’t have bills and had a bourbon room like the one in this video I’d probably say what their saying 🤦🏻♂️

You referenced the Priest from Princess Bride. Fun story I was married in a catholic church and kept giggling because the priest had a bit of an accent that reminded me of that, my wife was not amused when I told her after the service.
I think the best thing about a bourbon like Beam is that you can do whatever you want with it, cocktails, etc., and not feel the least bit guilty about it.
