That was such a fun time to be a kid in love with fast cars, turned 16 in 68. Great childhood. My Dad taught myself and 3 brothers how to be back yard mechanics
I’m laughing. I’m an old geezer from Detroit. I was there for this. Better yet, I remember these dealerships. This was a long time ago, back when Detroit prospered.
My '69 428-SCJ Mach 1 Resto-Mod is like an Indy car below 30 MPH...but, she reins TERROR to 150 MPH...12:1 and a solid roller cam REALLY works...with mixed gas...you'll need at least 104!!
I ALWAYS WANTED one of those Chrysler/Dodge cross rammed Wedge Cars!! It was funny....I went to work one day at my Family's Liquor Store and I had a NHRA magazine the highlighted those Cars! Well I was checking in a Delivery and the Driver just happened to have Raced one of those cars with his Brother!! OMG I was in HEAVEN LISTENING to all his Stories!! 👍💯♥️♥️♥️🇺🇲 Miss those Times!! ☹️
you can build one cheap with a early 383 block with the 3.750 stroke and max heads, you're gone, the engines i speak of were made 1959-61 and can find them in junk cars, last one i bought for 50 bucks and greasy hands in a friends wrecking yard, the heads are rare, aluminum race heads are not, edelbrocks are cheap used, luck
Im a second generation fan. My son is turning into the third. My dad was very good friends with the guy that drove the medicine man. I used to love going to visit uncle ray and aunt pat at their house. We would go out to the garages and as a kid , i was in heaven man! He would always be getting ready to go racing on the weekends. He sed to do the work on my dads race car. He drove a 70 coronet r/t 440. I remember a few burnouts in the alleys!
Growing up in Detroit I saw a lot of these cars in action. My fondest memory was the Dodge Dart. A friend of a friend had one. Although, I believe his was a 440-4speed. The car would burn rubber in every gear. Great machine!!!
My first car was a 68 Charger 383 (unfortunately) 2bbl single leger, big ole boat, but could burn that one leg all the way down the block! Sold it for a 70 Nova & built many a small blocks from then on! Wish I had that Charger to sell now!!!
I had a 1969 Gran Prix SJ 428. Very fast, but hard to keep the wheels from breaking loose with the NASCAR engine. I have only seen two others in my lifetime.
NOT ALWAYS,i worked on the cars you all dreamed of,at age 18 i worked for a chry ply dealership.drove everything MOPAR HAD ,they all overpowered their tires, the fastest, quickest cars we sold stop light to stoplight was a 340 duster 3 speed 3.91 suregrip, hang on
That guy who's brothers cousin had a 62 GTO with a hemi 455 and a 4 speed torqueflite and a 9 inch rear ,all factory, ran in the 9s off the floor but he wrapped it around a telephone pole and had it crushed. Bummer.
Being 76 and growing up in Central Michigan I grew up with all of these cars and raced many of them in my L78 Corvette and then my L78 Camaro. Enjoyed many of these memories but it’s unfortunate how sloppy the AI is. Correction on the Z11 as in those days it was a mid 11 second car. I remember going to the 66 nationals in Indy and watching Sox and Martin win with their hemi Cuda and marvel that my dead stock C8 Z06 Corvette runs faster and I drive it home with air conditioner. That’s how much Cars changed the 60s. Also, the quarter-mile time on the AMC is way off as no true super stock AMC ever went in the tens and I doubt even that an A/FX class AMX ever went that fast if one even exists.
ai lost me at 63' with tempest le mans. We seriously don't need ai. In 63 my dad had a 57' plymouth fury with the ram air cross ram. So i believe ai is wrong again.
Those factory ratings were a joke to keep the insurance guys off their six. Seriously a 426 hemi really made 425 H.P. at 4700 RPM and close to 600 at about 6700 RPM.
MIGHTY MOUSE CARS were damn quick, had the same problem we all did, traction,LIKE DON GARLITS ALWAYS SAID,WE ALWAYS HAD THE POWER,OUR TIRES WEREN'T UP TO IT
Calling the L023 a factory race car, pushes the limits of the term, "factory." Not taking anything away from them, because I love them, but factory? Naah.
His facts are off a little bit on quite a few models. It would be nice if people would get all of their facts straight before they put stuff like this out there.
Not sure where you got your “facts” from but as usual you guys that weren’t even alive when these cars came out, love to make up crap and then post it online. You can’t even get the little things right exposes your lack of knowledge about these cars, an example of a little thing is you call the 1963 Z11 Chevy Impala a ZED11. NOBODY back then called ANY of “Z” model cars like the Z28 or the ZL1 ZED that’s something that the European car buff wannabes today like to call these cars. Please post a picture of any Chevy performance car with the name ZED on the side of it. There’s no point in calling you out on the supposed times these cars ran or the quickest time that a super stock AMC AMX ran. Your post is only a day old and I feel confident that this particular super stock AMX can bet the record time you claim with a couple of plug wires pulled.
That was such a fun time to be a kid in love with fast cars, turned 16 in 68. Great childhood. My Dad taught myself and 3 brothers how to be back yard mechanics
I wish I lived back then. The world these days is a joke.
I was a little kid at the time. Wonderful memories.
Great cars, cool video. Thanks for posting.
I agree Joe

In the Southeast part of Wisconsin it was AMCs. AMXs,Scramblers,Machines. The sound of street racing was always in the air.
Before democrats ruined everything!
Born and raised in Southwest Detroit in 1960 I remember these also great times 😊
Each and every one of these gorgeous cars will be in my collection of hot cars!!!
Great vid, really enjoyed!!!! 👍🏁👍
Very well done….thank you.
Race Hemis rated at 550 hp
Street Hemis were rated at 425 hp. Great list!
Race Hemi's 725HP, street Hemi's 425, probably 500HP.
@@tigerboy60 yep

That is seriously one of the coolest things I've ever heard of
A walk back in time to when cars were real, although AI narration sucks!
The hemi Darts and Barracudas in 68 were the kings.
YES 💯👍
They still are.
68-2024

The Thunderbolts originally came with fiberglass front bumpers, but NHRA "nixed" them for Super Stock, so aluminium bumpers were substituted.
Same tempest they were talking about in court in my cousin vinny 😂😂😂
The Impala zeed 11!!! LMFAO 😂😆😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂!!!!!
The AI narration makes this video really hard to watch
You're too kind. Total jerkoffs that know nothing are behind such content.
Agreed. La- man's. Seriously?
The 63 Dodge and plymouths weren't equipped with 413s in 63.. The 413 was 62 only. 63s were 426 Max wedge motors.
My first car was a 69 Dodge Dart 340. Nothing like the 68 Dart shown here but of the cars on this video I liked the 68 Dart the most
My first car was a 68 Charger 383 (unfortunately) 2bbl single leger, big ole boat, but could burn that one leg all the way down the block! Sold it for a 70 Nova & built many a small blocks from then on! Wish I had that Charger to sell now!!!
THUNDERBOLT for the win!
THUNDERBOLTS AND SS/AA CUDAS AND DARTS,so close it was hard to judge,FORD AIN'T NO PUNK
1968 SUPER STOCK HEMI DART AND BARACUDA👍💯
The 65 427 A/FX Mustang,s should have been in this list also
Looks like a 402 to me. Those valve covers are unique.
I had a 1969 Gran Prix SJ 428. Very fast, but hard to keep the wheels from breaking loose with the NASCAR engine. I have only seen two others in my lifetime.
Wasn't the 428 HO rated at 390 horsepower that year?
Nobody believes me when I tell them how fast my 70 AMX was! It SCREAMED right out of the factory!
Yes, the AMX was FAST straight out of the factory!!!!!!!!
i believe you,i raced the cars you speak of,door to door with my cuda,i'd win ,then he would damn close runs AMX AINT NO PUNK EITHER
Never fails that the younger generations / AI narrators pronounce crap like Le Man's wrong....
Zed eleven.
Sounds like Led Zeppelins alter ego 😂
See maun
You forgot the 1968 B029 Plymouth Barracuda. My favorite was the Thunderbolt and Comet.
Had the Max wedge 426...13.5 cr. Strictly race fuel or aviation fuel. The pre-ignition on any 1970's pump fuel was a no go.
THEY WERE MARVELOUS ENGINES, to run crap fuel just put in the thick headgaskets,ROCK AND ROLL
Dodge Dart!
And the Hemi always dominated......
Only in your dreams
Only in your dreams
@@larrytidwell7885ignorant comments get you nowhere. The 68 Hurst hemi Darts and Barracudas ruled everything from GM or Ford. Truth hurts huh

Some of this is actually true.
There was a lot left out on the super stock Dart
No way the tempest rope driveshaft held up to all that torque.....
AI narration is a bad idea. Classic cats deserve better.
Back in the day guys would hop up there own cars. Now I am not sure where the engine is.
"La manns" 😂😅
Click bait title too, no factory GTO was running 8's in the 60's, blown dragsters were in the 7's and high 6's, bro.....
That guy who's brothers cousin had a 62 GTO with a hemi 455 and a 4 speed torqueflite and a 9 inch rear ,all factory, ran in the 9s off the floor but he wrapped it around a telephone pole and had it crushed.

When cars were cars!
Today, junk is built !
You skipped the real king... the Hemi Cuda. low 10s in street trim. high 8s with slicks and wheelie bars
14:1 compression in 1964.
All you hemi lovers need to check out the 440 stage 4,lighter and more powerfull, put in state troopers cars in the 60s,
That car was not street legal drawstring only!!
There’s no way ANY car came out of the factory doing 9 seconds.
Quit the fake info and fake AI voice.
No mention of my 900hp 540bbc equipped 69 Camaro???😢

66 oldsmobile 442 w30.....
torque monster, too fat to fly though, take out 900 lbs of car,it'll run well
Ford Thunderbolt.
Nine second cars with 425-ish horsepower? Hmmmm…🧐

I was a junior in hs😀
First comment
Le MAN'S??? REALLY??😅
427 not derived from 409
The z11 was a bored out 409, a one year only engine . It shared nothing with a MK IV 427
What about the 67-69 Z-28's ???
MIGHTY MOUSE CARS were damn quick, had the same problem we all did, traction,LIKE DON GARLITS ALWAYS SAID,WE ALWAYS HAD THE POWER,OUR TIRES WEREN'T UP TO IT

It's pronounced LeMons not LeMans
Cool video but laughable AI narration. Do better.

Why can't AI pronounce words right.
Not as intelligent as they think they are
"La-Mans"? Hate these robotic narrated videos.
Im done when AI cannot pronounce Lemans- sickening.....🤮
Because AI was used for the voice over is why I won't subscribe to this channel....
AI. Thumbs down.
Someone teach this man how to pronounce LeMans!
You lost me at laMANZ. EZ downvote.
