My other Metallica reactions!
ua-cam.com/play/PLG217Y9Pofu5hs4Ged1MNFPt-JVcx_mqq.html
Dave the chant is actually the wicked witch’s monkey guards from The Wizard Of Oz.
The chant was a reference to the monke guards in the wizard of oz film
I'm so happy to see that someone else knew what that was.
@@arkgent8390 course it’s a classic film
YUP👍
I like to think it's a Viking chant xD
If I am not mistaken it is also a reference of chants by protesting crowds in the 1930's that say 'All we own, we owe'
One of Metallicas most underrated songs if not the most underrated
Most underrated goes to Leper Messiah
@@Foxikaze thats a great one too!
@@Foxikaze honestly this is way more underrated, always at the bottom of the barrel in any rankings of ajfa...being placed next to one and blackened and whatnot which are more groovy and straight bangers this suffered a bit.
Word.
This album is SO perfect, maybe even the best trash album of all times. Thats why this song is so unlucky to be in this album and became underrated. Orherwise a masterpiece.
I love how James changes the lyrics in the last chorus saying “MYSELF is after me” instead of “EVERYONE is after me” as if his paranoia has calmed down a little bit or he’s in a window of lucidity and he realized that everything is in his head, yet he can’t do anything about it thus feeling “mass depression” and accepting that sooner or later he’s going to completely lose his sanity. Then he sings “Frayed ends of sanity, hear them callin- Frayed ends of sanity...” as if he’s being interrupted in mid sentence yet no one is talking but him, meaning that the voices in his head returned and he’s spiraling into dementia once again and laughing because of it.
Yes! I got goosebumps when I realized he changed the lyric to that, so powerful!
Same in I think AJFA (the song), he changes from "I can't believe the things you say" to "I can't believe the things we say" and from "You pay" to "We pay" in the final pre-chorus.
This album is a lyrical masterpiece!
MUSICAL, too
Yep this album has a style of prog, it’s groovy, raw, and aggressive, guitar tone absolutely brutal, Hetfield voice brutal, this album is unmatched
The guitar tone in this album is so sick 🤘
On Bias fx amp the justice tone is dead on, I love playing the tone
Absolutely, it’s brutal
Hetfield's lunatic kind of laugh at the end of last chorus than drum time signature change... That is the best part for me in this song. It's like, after that moment "frayed ends" is not just frayed, it's completely teared now.
My favorite song from that album. I don't think of could have described it better myself. I especially like the part at the end when James does the evil laugh because, too me, it seems like the person has finally just given in and gone crazy.
For the next metallica song maybe you could try trapped under ice from ride the lightning or ain't my bitch from load.
Nope wreck it Ralph AND Metallica were referencing The Wizard of Oz
Metallica - eye of the beholder.
From 7:17 to 7:42 THE GREATEST 25 seconds ever captured on all of youtube.
I disagree with you my friend I think the riff written in fade to black solo by cliff "rip" is the best
Longtime Metallica fan here..... I *loved* the breakdown of the bridge and solo section. The boys in the band were really rocking out and putting their talent on full display, and I really liked how you pointed out that the music itself can tell a good story. It's not just the lyrics that can tell a good story to the listener. The bridge builds and builds and builds, then the solo takes over, which is a metaphor as to how sanity can deteriorate bit, by bit, by bit (it frays), and then it finally breaks. Bravo! Really good video.
I loved this man. Please do more from this album, it’s their absolute best work. Thank you
First 4albums are Masterpiece of Music
1 of my 4 favorite metallica albums indeed. Still cant decide the order or Kill en all, ride the lightning, master of puppets or and justice for all... 25 years listening and still cant decide.
@@inkubuzz
For me is:
1 - ...And justice for all
2 - Ride the lightning
3 - master of puppets
4 - Kill em' all
That was REALLY hard to choose, but ajfa has dyers eve... Blackened... One..., Rtl has FFWF... Ride the lightning (my favorite solo ever) and the only reason that i put master above kill em' all is because of the tone of the guitars, i love both albums
Their best! Totally agree!
I remember this song 28 years ago when I heard it first time … was absolutely stunning… I repeated in a loop for weeks … almost hypnotic song
I’m really impressed with your analogies. 🤘
Indeed. Dude is so thoughtful in his assessments.
He actually pays attention.
My favorite song from Justice 🤟
The arranging and the groove on this song is nothing more than brillant.
One of my favorite song.
Lars was a master on it.
This is a masterpiece .
I love this song. It often gets overlooked being on Justice. I love the growling guitars snd that amazing solo. Also, I like Lars’ drumming. It’s simple and I am sure very within his capabilities. But it really puts the other band members forward and his double bass was really clean IMO. Great reaction and analysis as always.
Oh wee oh, we ohhhhh
The drumming isn't simple at all.
Its musical, arranged , but its not simple at all.
The way its placed, the changes.
When the main riff comes in see when the first fill pops up.
The middle, the triplet , the lead break ...
Oh man how I missed the Metallica reactions!
Possibly my favorite song from this album, this one's a banger
The first time that Metallica performed this song was in 2013, 25 years after it was recorded and released. They were dealing with the death in 1986 of original bassist Cliff Burton. (My dad's birthday is on the day that Cliff died.) They didn't really deal with the grief properly; instead, their next bassist, Jason Newstead, went through hazing that lasted until he left in 2001. The fact that you can't hear the bass on the "...And Justice For All" album is proof of that.
What bass?
Serioulsy thou, having the bass volumed down gives the album a "raw" sound that works. I dont know if it would sound so aggressive with more bass punch
@@inkubuzz that's nice excuse but having the bass tuned low doesn't give it a "raw" sound. It gives it an empty sound, raw sound usually means there is a wall of sound hitting you that is muddy or hard to discern.
The production on And Justice For All... is clean apart from the lack of bass, which gives the album no "full sound" at all. Once you notice the lack of bass the album loses of a lot a power, especially with headphones. A far cry from the fullness of Master of Puppets.
Did they not play it in Brazil 1989?
My favorite videos on UA-cam are you listening to another Metallica song. Keep going sir!!!
I did a bunch a while back. Every now and then I touch back around to Metallica.
Was waiting so long for this...awesome!!!
Amazing reaction Dave. You never disappoint my friend.
Nice job, you're the first person I've heard react to this, definitely my favorite song on this spectacular album. Again, nice job
I don't know why, but that Or-e-Or chant at the begining always makes me remember a scene in Wizard of OZ when the Wicked Witch sends out her flying monkeys.
*goes searching*
welp while I was right that it WAS Wizard OZ, I got the wrong scene. It was when Dorothy was captured and was being held at the Wicked Witch's castle and the Tinman, Lion & Scarecrow were planning to sneak in to free Dorothy, they see the guards marching in front gate and they are chanting like "ore- ee-oh ---oOoh" The Wizard of Oz - The Castle of the Wicked Witch...Metallica?! - UA-cam
So Metallica was making a refference to Wizard of Oz and Wreck it Ralf was likely refering to both.
thanks dave. wishing you and your family the best.
So thrilled you went deep on Metallica! This whole album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Loved your reaction, got a new sub!
Awesome reactions my man "and justice for all" is one of my few favorite entire albums . I lost your channel for a good while now I've been binge watching your videos 2 nights in a row 🤟
I appreciate you!
The middle of this song was crazy as hell.. killer riff.
Nailed it Dave. Great reaction bro🔥🔥🔥
Sup from France man, love ur reactions, keep it up ! :)
Great reaction as always dude, thank you for being genuine and im glad that you give your own experiences when you hear these songs and this band! Definitely do Bleeding me as you ll love the whole song and also give a listen to their most recent album from 2016 "Spit Out the Bone"! \m/
great analysis mate!
Love your analysis of the lyrics and music. It genuinely made me have an entirely new appreciation of the song!
Love your take on the songs I have listened to thousands of times. Re-inspiring me to listen closer. I just rock out and get lost in the music. 👍👍
Dave, it is great to appreciate great music like appreciation of great art! I grew up listening to all genres of music. My Pops loved and was very knowledgeable of all genres of music.
Great analysis!!!
My favorite Metallica song. Its amazing
There are some awesome bars after the solo, where they are playing polymeter. Lars plays a 5/4 while the rest continues in 4/4, and Lars plays a 3/4 to bring them back in sync. This half/double tempo shift is very prominent here, a new awesome song that has much of the same half/double feel is Atlas Rise
I love this song it is one of my favorites. I really love your understanding of their music. Thank you
AJAF was their peak, composition and song structure. Frayed has some extra bars to throw people off the rhythm, which feels like normal tempo and double tempo constantly changing
I really enjoy your Metallica reactions
Awesome reaction friend.
Thats how the album is, so intricate and complex. I myself love this fucking album.
Good to see your back at it. You are one of the best. Very genuine intelligent and informative. Metallica - Spit Out The Bone if u haven't hit it yet.
They have only played this song once live and it was on their 30th anniversary tour. They used to trick the crowds into thinking they were going to play it then switch into something different
Great reaction. Welcome to the Metallica family!
Such a great song there’s still some more hidden jams in their catalog...
Oh man your reaction was fantastic! If you have not done Dyer's Eve (same album) i strongly urge you to listen to how damn tight that song is - it comes heavy hard loud and seriously in sync.
this could be taken from the animated tolkien lotr where the orcs are singing "oh we love the old one" new sub love your reactions
Yeppers! The frayed ends! Nice reaction👍Good song choice. If you want to hear some cool guitar work people never do this but, listen to what the rhythm Guitar is doing while the solo is happening, just something for you to check out someday, it’s pretty cool.
Right on the money pastor Dave.
Love your reactions and interpretations really interesting! This album has some of Kirks best solos, they're all just incredible and this was arguably the peak of their musicianship and creativity on And Justice For All
I was thinking of the exact same wreck it ralph scene with the oreos haha
The beginning reminds me of the soldiers in The Wizzard of Oz.
MetallicA has a gift, each new song you listening will be always the best. 😄😉
More Metallica reactions. Hell yes !
This song is AWESOME
Kind of cool the chain of inspiration from a 1930's film with flying monkeys, to an 80's metal band, to a more recent film. I believe the chant is, "All we own, we owe", which is kind of a powerful message in an of itself. That riff before the solo is just sick. A lot of what gets my blood pumping the most on this album is the fast rhythm parts, especially when the guitars are playing the same line but separated by a 3rd/5th/octave/etc interval.
Actually, the chant is from Wizard of Oz (1939) A scene where a group of guards are chanting that
The chant is, All we are...we owe her!" Referencing that their (the guards of the wicked witch of the west, from the Wizard of Oz, as formerly mentioned in comments) very existence was because the witch had created them. ;-)
Great Metallica reaction as always Dave. I love that guitarlo too. Kirk Hammett makes his guitar absolutely scream and he just shreds it out with the scaling up and down. He's called "The Ripper" for good reason, LOL 😂😂😂
Awesome reaction from a diehard Metallica Fan
The 3 greatest minutes of metal composition ever, exist in the middle of this jewel!
"All we own, we owe her. Oh we loathe the old one"
Good reaction
The building solo feels like heightening paranoia or anxiety.
I always thought it was clever how the music drops lower right before he sings "old habits reappear".
What I love about Metallica is you will find all types of references to fictional books, i.E. Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, and Where the Wild Things Are oh and Cathulu!
Hey man, as a metal head myself this is a great song, but have you heard their song "One!" which is also from this album?
The intro of this song is the greatest, in my opinion
🎶“Oh we love the old one.”🎶
"...And Justice For All" would definitely be my favorite Metallica album if it had been mixed properly to bring the bass lines out a lot more to be fully heard. It's just a weird mix when you get the sense of bass being in there, and it produces a kind of "whom whom whom whom whom" sound throughout, so you know there is bass in there,, but you can't really hear hardly any of the individual notes...disappointing. It would have been a totally different story if Cliff Burton hadn't passed and could have done rhe album. I can't imagine how amazing "...And Justice For All" could have been with Cliff. :-( Although, the guitar parts are amazing (as usual), and Lars is at the top of his game on this record. I think from start to finish, this record has Lars Ulrich's best playing. This is also the closest that Metallica ever got to "progressive metal", which I love. But, because of the poor mixing job, I have to put this album behind "Master of Puppets" as my personal favorite...but it a really close second.
As in commented before, yes, bass is lacking in the mix, but I cant really decide if the album would feel this "raw" if it had more bass
More Metallica!!! 🤘
Come on man let's gooooo🤘🤘🤘🤘👊👊👊👊 BANGER
Great song great reaction.. whats more to say!? Keep us fed with metal😉
If you wanna work.out what your favourite Metallica album is, start with Kill em all, listen to the whole album several times, then do the same with Ride the Lightning, then Master of Puppets etc. It great to see so many people appreciating the brilliance of Metallica these days. Back in the day you couldn't even get people to listen and give em a chance. But they were extreme once.
Wizard of oz. Ooweeo eyooo. Never hunger , never prosper , i have fallen slave to failure. Have missed you doing rock and metal reactions.
Actually the chant is from the movie The Wizard Of Oz. It’s the monkey guards at the witches castle
Awesome choice the beginning was from the wizard of oz is like to see you react to throughh the never
Lars gets so much hate but this song shows how musical and creative he his, this is incredible and complicated. He clearly drums for the song.
Well done! And when the rope snaps; are you shedding baggage and garbage, or losing productivity and peace??? 🤘✌️
No they were referencing Wizard of Oz - which is where this chant is most notably from.
The intro gives people the stank face, guaranteed ! I always imagine some sort of a battalion of orcs and dark elves performing the march of doom while singing OOOeeHO !!
The intro chant is from the Wizard of Oz
Which has been said already... many times
Love your reaction videos Dave! I'm 67 and have seen Metallica live a half dozen times. They are the best in concert, never fail to deliver a great show!
The hits like enter sandman are great but this is the real meat of Metallica🤘🏻🤘🏻
All we own, we owe!!!
Hey a rare metal reaction cool
Oh ee oh Is from The Wizzard Of Oz The Witches Guards sang this as they marched
It’s the wizard of OZ
Anyone who ever doubts Hammet is a virtuoso level player I just present this lead and Blackened's as evidence.
Oooo eeee oooo? I've always heard it chanting:
No way out that we know of....
Dude, its the Wizard of Oz chant
Legit reaction channel bro..
The chant is "All we owe, We all owe".
I always go back to this song when I make really poor decisions in life.
As someone living with multiple mental illnesses who has been in a fair few psych wards, I feel this track hard.
love you dave my brothers name is david but he likes to be called dave
Still need more helloween bro
No Dave, Metallica was referencing "The guards from Wizard of Oz" Oh E Oh E ohhhhhhhhhhh Oh Oh E Oh e Ohhhhhhhhh Oh!
Keep up the great work, I love the break downs!
