    I love your interpretation of the lyrics. I always took the "digging my way to something better" as he's working towards ridding himself of his pain, but "digging" himself a hole, or a grave, in the process. This song to me is a last ditch cry for help from a man who was always labeled as too "badass" to ever need it.

    I’ve requested this song a ton, but unfortunately a lot of reactors go with the songs that have the most views, to get their numbers up. Not saying you, but Most of them. That’s why we see the same songs over and over and over and over and over..... I requested it not even a week ago on another channel after he did The Unforgiven trilogy. I also request the hell out of Volbeat , especially on channels that don’t have a lot of subscribers, thinking it would be easier to get them onto them, but they’re just looking at numbers also

    • @whatitdodave
      @whatitdodave  3 роки тому +9

      Numbers are important, as that’s what helps a channel grow. Can’t get any subs if people aren’t searching for your vid. That’s also why a lot of less popular Metallica videos gets no reactions, because the fans aren’t searching for them like they are the popular ones.
      For me. I will test out artist before I make a decision. If it does not do well, I move on, or sometimes I may not like the band that much to continue.
      Keep in mind that copyright is becoming a pain. I imagine soon, reactors will stop reacting to copyrighted stuff because of how much time it waste and the fact that we gain almost nothing from it but subs, and subs unfortunately don’t pay the bills if this is a job (part time) for some like myself. It’s not always about the money, but it’s nice to get rewarded for your work. After all, nobody likes to work for free.
      If you follow some other reactors you may see that some have made the switch from music reactions, to “try not to” challenges, or other videos of the sorts. That just means they have quit the copyright race and decided to proceed the more slower route. I’m not going to lie, I’m making that transition myself soon, as copyright is killing my motivation and drive lately.

    SideNote: this was Rob and Kirks first live “Doodle” together on the most recent tour. They would get together onstage during the intermission and play little excerpts from songs based on what city/country they’re in (like when they were in Canada they might play a bit from a Rush or Triumph song) but it started with them doing a bit from this song during their Baltimore show which I got to see about 15 feet in front of me since I was only a couple “rows” back from the outcrop!

    I bought this album the day it came out, and like a lot of Metallica die-hards I was confused by the sudden shift in sound. I had already heard the first single, Until it Sleeps, which is a ballad, and just figured they released it first because there were a lot of heavy tunes as well. But as the album progressed, it was clear this was a new Metallica. I was still on the fence halfway through the album, but then this song dropped and it floored me! I was on board at that point, and then when they closed the album with Outlaw Torn, that was it...I accepted the new direction after that first listen, and after repeated plays, this song and Outlaw Torn became my favs. Any old school Tallica heads that dropped the band after this album missed a lot of great music. I'm glad I have it a chance, because this is one of Metallica's best songs...great reaction! 🤘

    A few days ago I commented that there is only a few songs I heard from Metallica after the black album ( the one with enter sandman ) and this song is one of them. I should point out something... in Metallica's early years... they were signed to a small record label, no radio station would play anything from them, they did it purely by word of mouth and the strength of their live performances. In 1986 ( very sad year ) they were on tour with Ozzy Osbourne and every night they were upstaging Ozzy freaking Osbourne and their popularity went through the roof. So when they announced that they were going alternative... I said to myself... " WHAT HAPPENED?"... WHY? 🤔 R.I.P. Clifford Lee Burton 😢😢😢😭

    Definitely a very underrated song and album. Load and Reload had changed Metallica's sound and playing style for sure, and there was a lot of us die hard Metallica fans that didn't like it because they stepped out of the really heavy thrash metal that we all know and love.
    I took it with a grain of salt personally and actually learned to really dig it. I was actually happy that they had the Cahones to make that leap, for good or bad, and to me, it was different but amazing still.

    Once again, Kirk "The Ripper" Hammett comes through with the amazing guitarlos. I can't be sure if it was this song or not, but he did a short solo on a steel guitar in one of their videos and he made it sound like misery, crying and misfortune. It may have been that solo in the middle of this song, but I'm not sure.
    The final solo, again a masterful piece of awesomeness. The Wah pedal and cry baby working in tandem was just EPIC.
    And now to James. His singing in this song was so different from the early albums. He showed range, control, emotional content that wasn't anger, and a softness that I really hadn't heard from him in quite some time, if ever. This song showed the world that James can do waaayyyy more than just belt out loud screaming lyrics at a fast pace.

    The song ends the way it starts because he can't escape from the thing that has him bound,he can't break free from it its self inflicted,you can interpret it in many different ways...in reality were all caught in in some form or another.

    My interpretation was always along the lines of someone trying to better themselves by bleeding off their negative attributes. “I take the leech. I’m bleeding me” referring to the old practice of applying leeches to drain off “bad blood”. And struggling to take control of your life. “I take the leash that’s leading me”. The thorn in your side must be removed. But it’s not easy and it’s gonna hurt.

    Dude, I love your analysis of this song. The first time I heard it, it got in my bones. The whole "reap what you sow" doctrine gave me chills, and ever since this song about brings tears to my eyes. Welcome to the Metallica family! Mozart's been dead 300 years...but if you listen to his 41st symphony you'll sit back and say, "Wow!" Same thing here...300 years from now people will be blown away by a LOT of Metallica's tunes. Glad you reacted to this one...highly underrated. It never got much air play because it's long, like a lot of Metallica tunes. True genius doesn't come in four minute bursts. :)

    I love using wah because you can use it to help emphasize your tone and the feeling you are trying to get out of your sound. It's also used to help hide imperfections in lead work hence why Kirk relies so heavily on the wah as he is aware that his guitar ability has diminished so much over the years and unfortunately it's now his mantra and he has to live with it.

    • @vannacee26
      @vannacee26 3 роки тому +2

      Diminished mostly now because of his fight with pretty bad arthritis.
      I love his bluesy feel guitar work, STILL. His wah wah is James' "yeah ya"

    This is them track from 1996's release LOAD (same with THE OUTLAW TORN for which you did the reaction previously) - them third album with Jason Newsted as them member. One of them underrated songs as well.
    By the way, this song is about James' alcoholism (and how he wanted to end this)
