FILM DESCRIPTION:
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro teams up with Legendary Pictures to bring audiences a unique take on the monster film with this sci-fi production. The Brothers Bloom's Rinko Kikuchi co-stars as a trainee whom Hunnam is psychically paired with in order to pilot the last beacon of hope -- a decommissioned Jaeger assigned to stop the Kaijus once and for all. Thor's Idris Elba leads the rest of the starring cast, which includes Charlie Day, Rob Kazinsky and Ron Perlman.

“FINALLY, A WORTHY OPPONENT!”
“OUR BATTLE WILL BE LEGENDARY!!!”
kung fu panda? tai-lung?
glad im not the only who thought of that
Kung Fu Panda? 😂
@dan caser well I guess it recalled them in that movie specifically
Well, I know I though of the same thing 😂
Love how the fight actually functions really well as a dialogue. Recall the earlier scene where she told him he's unpredictable and a bad candidate. She's right that he's sloppier with his fighting than he should be, but he was also right when he said that she doesn't really understand what it's like to be in combat yet. She's clearly got more efficient and refined combat skills (she does win 4 to 3, after all) but he gets two points straight away by hitting her while she's getting her stance ready. She's not prepared for the unpredictability of combat. It so perfectly illustrates why she's way better than him, yet he's also kind of way better than her, and that makes them a great duo. And all just through the choreography. God this movie is awesome.
It's what he was proving..they compliment each other and fill in the gaps...like the left and right parts of the brain
Wouldve been nice if they made a sequel for pacific rim.
You typing a reply! Dont you dare correct my statement..
Lol this is movie trash, relax dude.

I love this movie. The only pacific rim movie ever released....the only one
Pacific rim uprising uppercuts you, "hey there you forgot about little ole me"
Yep, 100% true, boy I sure wish they could make a sequel, you know? just as GOOD as this one.
@@dream8870 r/whooosh
I wish it was,the second movie was not even close to being as great as this movie
yess broo, I assume the uprising didn't even exist
2:07 that micro change in expression from being shocked to realizing that she is the perfect co-pilot.
That's some really good acting right there! Good spot.
@Rex Rodgers they were talking about Raleigh not Mako
Yep.
good eye! it's subtle but it's there, that little smile
Uprising is a trash film
Imagine a whole movie of character development then proceed to throw it out of the window
It´s like saying whole movie was waste of time.
I can imagine a whole TV series of that. It's called Game of Thrones
@@rymdalkis O O F
@@rymdalkis *A YEARS*
Agree... it's called Terminator: Dark Flop or something like that
Nothing has disappointed me as much as Pacific Rim 2.
Pacific Rim 2 was total trash. The physics of the first film conveyed the size and scope of the jaegers and kaiju. The creative team behind it was brilliant. The second film was completely lacking this realism. The story was trash too.
that's what happens when you go from a genius mind of Del Toro to amateur clown Steven De Knight - you get a piece of chaotic trash, only fitting to feature in a SyFy channel of shame...
PR 2 was more like anime. PR 1 had more mechanical movements with way better story and realism.
Robot Ace watch Star Wars episode 7,8, and 9. Make even a bowl of diarrhea like Uprising look like goddamn Hamlet.
What is Pacific Rim 2? U gotta be joking right?
Everyone loves Mako's actress, but I want to state that Charlie Hunnam was also amazing in this movie. He could really do some choreography there.
Her face structure is abnormal.
@@winniarsalma9360 yes its too perfect
Why people are rewatching this because they killed her in the 2nd movie like it was nothing.
@MARS ULTOR I'm an American and it passes. We have so many different accents in our country it's nigh-impossible to nail a region down specifically. He sounds like a Midwesterner to me.
They have nice dynamic as pilots of Gipsy Danger
She was perfect for Ghost in the Shell
You speak the truth my friend.
Because Scarlett Johansson also had the physiognomy
Nah not really.
she looks and sounds nothing like the major...gtfo
yes she was perfect for Ghost in the Shell
Mako Mori is still one of my favorite characters and it's still such a shame more movie studios didn't offer Rinko Kikuchi roles in movies made in the west the way it has happened for other actresses. I feel like she could've grown to be a truly breakout star and had parts in the new Star Wars movies or singular films.
The Flying Lion she’s excellent in Westworld season 2 but that’s the only movie I’ve seen her in outside of pacific rim sadly
Uprising has China's investment all over the place and you know how China still pretend to hate Japan to gather Nationalist hatred together and forget theirs own issues from within.
I thought she was very good in 47 Ronin (with Keanu Reeves) even though it wasn't the best movie
Jurassic Lion it’s cuz Asians don’t really get many roles in western movies unless they’re a henchman or the bad guy or Jackie Chan
I know her since Babel, and that movie was from back in 2006. great role
“Ok she’s pretty good at fighting so that mean she’s my girlfriend I mean co pilot”
"That's not going to work"
"Well then maybe we should have a better screening process that's not just people fighting with sticks"
Jajajaja
"That's dumb, you're dumb "
😂🤣
This movie to me still has one of the best depictions of soul mates in a non-romantic or sensual way. At least to me, Drift compatibility in this movie indicates soul mates
@Captain Hindsight soul mates is not a distinctively romantic concept if that is what you are inferring my comment insinuates. Soul mates as it's used metaphysically or rather pseudoscientifically is to explain the materialistic connection between two people beyond mere superficial affections.
So well put! I fully believe soulmates can be platonic too, and that is just as special
If this movie were in real life I doubt they wouldn't date. Also theres a scene wheres she see him shirtless and pretty much get ashamed
@@yougotnojams6784 She's actually looking at his scars
@@emmanueloluga9770very special
What I like about Idris Elba’s decision to not allow her to be a Jaeger pilot is that while you want to see her be one you can also see where he’s coming from, she wants to protect the world just like everyone else but because of what happened to her as a kid she’s also really out for blood, and you can see why he would think an emotional state like that wouldn’t be safe to allow into the Jaegers
more simply, he views her as his daughter, he doesn't want to put her at risk.
@@Yautah You're probably both right.
Yeah, it's only when Gypsy is the last Jaeger standing, that Stacker reluctantly sends them out.
See this is why the first film and Del Toro are the best. A scene that doesn't involves kaijus or jaegers yet it develops the characters in just less than 4 minutes.
Mako is so cute at 0:34, "dad did you hear that? can I fight? can I fight? pleeasee."
pentacost: "no."
raleigh: "lmao you dont think she'll win against me?"
pentacost: 0:50 "kick his ass sweetheart."

YES I HIGHLY AGREE WITH U THERE. LOL LMAO
2:09 I love his face there....that's the face of "where have you been all my life"
and like I don't ship them in the romantic sense...but that moment.
Can’t believe they killed her so unceremoniously in Uprising. :(
They changed the script del toro uses.... Yeah I hated that part where they killed her for no reasons :( why the fuk would they not have parachute in the heli man???
Yeah... She's one of the reasons why the first Pacific Rim is so great. But in Uprising, they just killed her right off the bat...
And that, people is why I'm disappointed with Uprising
Wow, thanks for the damn spoilers.
IKR! She was the one of the few characters that actually had character development, she had so much potential in Uprising. But yet they still threw away her character. What’s even worse is that she didn’t die a hero...
How delightful to put out spoilers
2:45 I just notice that there's a mark on Raleigh left arm that looks like it was ripped off like in the first fight of Gipsy Danger and Knifehead. Nice detail
It's a burn from his drift suit circuitry overloading. It's visible in other scenes
"I had reach, but she had flexibility."
I got that reference.
A Garrus reference here ? I take it man
I see you are also a man of culture.

Wow
So this is what a film with real direction looks like
Says P-Hub
A film that actually knows what it's doing. A film director who knows what he's doing. Latino maestro Guillermo del Toro! Who also did Hellboy, Pan's Labryinth, Crimson Peak, and the Academy Awars winning The Shape of Water. Who served as an executive producer for Kung Fu Panda, as well as a few other DreamWorks Animation projects.
Why did the writers get rid of these two characters. I liked them more than the protagonist in the sequel.
just imagine that the sequel never happened/isn't canon.
If I'm not wrong the actor didn't like the movie and was actually busy. But why Boyega? He already was bad as hell in Star Wars, not even himself liked it and they put him at a really high position here.

The sexual tension is real

P.S. The director meant for this scene to have the sexual tension, I just happened to see it.
Tessa Rose "you're about to be inside my head...Jesus"

Just because a man is fighting a woman doesn't make it sexual, if a man was fighting another man would you say the same thing?

It wasn’t a reference to anything in particular, if it lines up with something it’s a coincidence.
Dudeeee......Soa is just 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Directors take note: THIS IS HOW FAST A FIGHT SCENE SHOULD GO.
Mako - Exceptional martial artist;
light weight; lightning speed flexibility and agility; brilliant head of mecha project; modern techno creative, but lacked actual field combat experiences.
Raleigh - Skilled hand to hand combatant; more strength & stamina; indomitable will; peak human determination (both strong mental and physical damage absorbing ability - being able to pilot Gipsy Danger on his own while sustaining serious injury); unpredictability and far more experienced field warrior than Mako.
Raleigh + Mako = Unstoppable Team
Trust me, Raleigh is a better fighter than Mako.
Can we just forget Uprising ever existed?

5 years. What's your point?
Mako looked so amazing in this scene. I'm so glad I've never watched and probably never will watch Uprising. In my mind, she's still alive.
I understand marshals concern for his daughter's wellbeing/safety but at the same time tactically having both Raleigh and Mako as a team is more advantages to their current situation as they are compatible and complement each other in combat
As a military commander that marshals made a judgement based on emotions which is a lethal risk / mistake in an war for survival
tbf, almost immediately afterwards they nearly blasted a hole in the building, which was what the marshal was also worried about.
@@skrubknight884 yo got a point
Or best in practise in one team
Best in theory in another team
= more bang for buck
But that needs more jaegers which they don't have
Headcanon is that you fail compatibility for actually hitting your opponent. If you can't predict them well enough to know when a strike will connect and pull it back, you're not drift compatible.
This scene lives rent free in my head
This was the scene that made mako mori lives rent free in my head since 2013.
Watch this fight.
THEN...
Then remember that Mako is basically a beginner with zero real life battle experience. Then rewatch that time when Raleigh wiped the floor with Chuck Hansen. EASILY.
Mako was actually able to handle the man of Raleigh's caliber in a mock fight. He did say that he's not gonna dial down his moves and still she was able to keep up.
That's freaking impressive.
She's hot!!!
That too.
Yup.
+Kou Yang
Although true, that's not exactly a sexy scene.
Kou Yang Oh Boi

One of monster film that has SO GOOD human element!!!
00:24 this look from Pentacost of "did you just said that out loud? seriously, lmao" XD
Mako and riley were brilliant characters and I love there relationship with each other
They should've given Mako more moments during the Kaiju fights. Given her smaller size, it would've made sense for her to be cerebral and target Leatherback's arm or use the coolant on Otachi.
She's also the one who knows new Gipsy Danger better than Raleigh since she was the one who came up with new weapons. Which is precisely why she was the one who remembered about the sword during their fight with Otachi.
Mako is, however, an amateur so it would be illogical for her to be perfect. She never fought kaiju for real after all.
Tbh I never saw her as being more cerebral than Raleigh. In fact I saw her as simply more disciplined but just as ferocious.
Besides, Raleigh had more experience as a pilot but when he didn't know what to do she came through.
She'd already come up with that sword idea. And it's the big win. So be grateful please. It's not that woman got prejudiced in that
THERE - ARE - TOO - MANY - ANIME - TROPES - IN - THIS - SCENE!!!
And I'm totally glad about that!!!! Because it was done so well.
This scene make this movie more than perfect.
Mako died along with the franchise with how Pacific Rim 2 turned out.
Hollywood needs to take notes from this movie about making a strong female character.
Mako mori was well developed, well written and a fully fleshed out character. Not like the garabage disney tries to cram down our throats. She is written in the mold of sarah connor and ellen ripley.

So does drift compatibility just mean sexual tension?
You need to be capable of social connectivity in a way that average individuals are not. Romantic, sexual, family bonds are the most ideal situations. If you can intuitively understand each other you drift smoother and operate more effectively.
@@crisbowman what do u mean
@@jakejageralt4148 it only means that having a bond with one person whether it is romatically, sexually or a family bond that an average individual does not have is more desirable leading to drift compatibility in which coordinating the movements of the jaegers will be much easier and smoother ;)
In summary.... Drifting with a person who you share a bond with is much better rather than with a stranger.
If I recall correctly Cherno Alpha's pilots were married to each other. The rest of the known pilots are siblings. This has been thrown from the window in the sequel.
@@ykm205 Herc and Chuck were father and son.

Mako is the perfect “strong female character”. What Disney tries to force on us are stoic women who feel nothing, are absolutely perfect in every way and have little character development.
