The alien fails to hit the slow bus all the time, but hits the jets every time like it's nothing. Nice...

@@Sitanium That's not a valid reason. It's not like the jets were continuously distracting the Harvester Queen. There were moments when the jets would fly past and take a while to turn around and come back. In those calm moments, why didn't the Queen use her blaster cannon to just shoot the bus like she did all those fighter jets she shot out of the sky? Also, at one point she actually jumped literally on top of the bus, and still missed it anyway. And yet she was able to use her tentacles to swat fast moving jet fighters out of the air without any problem.

Apparently, the physics behind it appears to be that, as you scream, you produce a soundwave that further increases the velocity of the ejected projectiles, be it solid, liquid, gas, or even plasma. Further increasing the damage capacity. Hmmm... Interesting.

Yeah the only thing you'd see of jets in monster movies would be their missiles, and occasionally some tracers from a half mile away.
If you feel dumb, just remember the soldiers with gun shooting a kaiju even they know there guns not damage the kaiju after all
also, you guys know how military technology is probably the fastest evolving science created by man? In 100 years we're still going to use infantry shooting bullets from rifles, except now bullets will travel at almost dodgeable speeds. Who cares that even now entire warfare revolves around dropping shells and rockets at each others from distances of several kilometres.

This scene was graphically beautiful, but you can't tell me that the queen was sniping jets out of the air no problem but couldn't hit a bus.
I wanna say maybe because the jets were going towards the queen makes them easier targets, while the bus is running away from the queen, but still yeah it's pretty stupid she didnt hit them with those tentacles

As little sense as this scene made, I have to say I LOVE the design of the queen
Not me. To different from the types of weapons used in the original. Sure its styling is the same but there was never any ground equipment of that size in the original. And seriously as important as they made the queen to be why would she be in a giant target however heavily shielded it is. And even worse the size of its actual body when they shoot up its exoskeleton.

It's a shame the film makers couldn't help but put so many bad decisions in this film. There are bits and pieces of awesome in it. The design of the harvester queen was great, especially when she was in motion.

I find it hilarious that they could have completely fixed this scene simply by making up some magical mcguffin that had been brought onto the bus that the Queen just could not risk the safety of.
Then it would make sense that she can snipe down jets but not even get close to the bus. She wanna get into a good position so she can subdue it gently, and the military is working against that happening to keep the kids safe.
But I guess not...

You take Independence day, which has classic name recognition, and combine it with the basic plot of XCOM, one of the greatest video game franchises in the last decade, with a nearly infinite quintillion dollar budget, put it under the guidance of the original director and call back a good chunk of the cast from the 1st... you combine all these elements of absolute GREATNESS....and you fuck it up.

Had she nailed the jets first instead of bothering with the buss that clearly couldn't get away there would have been nothing to take the shield down.

It can never beat the original Independence Day. Resurgence was like Speed 2: Cruise Control all over again.

I remember one of the biggest things the sequel was trying to do TOO much, trying to replicate the same feelings of the first one. I watched characters die in this movie and felt nothing because it just wasn't done in a way to make me feel something. I barely got to see them. But the original made me feel something for them
The scientist's death at the end especially, I literally don't remember him from the original and he barely had any time in this movie. So why should I care about his death?
That was one of my biggest takeaways, this movie was TRYING to make viewers feel but just did a terrible job at it.
Other than that the movie just wasn't that good. I also remember the "relationship" built up between that big african guy and the one scientist or soldier with him that you see in this scene, how at the end the black guy said he was worthy of being a soldier or something (wasn't shown in this scene). But just felt stupid, didn't feel like it at all. That other guy was not a good soldier. Can't say more detail as I haven't seen it in a long time and can't even remember their names

maybe its a nostalgia talking, but I see first Independence day as an absolute gem and this.. this just threw a giant shit on it
its a shame cause im sure there could have been potential for meaningful and engaging sequels but this was pretty bad and probably sunk any follow ups. Of course if they were like this, we dont want them anyway.
This movie is a insult to the first Independence Day, they shouldn't 've been allowed to make a sequel, 'cause it was a shame... Some movies just don't need a continuation, they were good enough and that's it, but Hollywood only thinks about make money. Another example of a movie that didn't need a sequel was Pacific Rim, the sequel was a shame and messed up the franchise.

It’s just nostalgia. People can’t accept change. It’s inherent in us due to our primitive instincts of safety and routine.
However with a little use of your brain, you can easily look past that and appreciate new things for what they are and not what you wish they could be.
The point of the first indepandance day was that it was loosely believable and was scary at times. This was just stupid, ridiculous and had no character.

Independence day was so strong to me because of the lack of visible aliens, when something doesn't have a face it's more menacing. only having small bits of alien scenes, but mostly just mystery
And also the tension. Throughout the film, we aren’t sure of the alien’s intentions. Do they want to attack, do they want to communicate with us? It leaves us on edge
Totally agree, and when you did see them it was integral to the plot, they were used sparingly.
Thing that you mentioned already sounds much more interesting than this entire movie.

I like the design of the Harvester Queen, minus the inconsistencies of the action sequences in the movie.
She’s just got one of those faces where it’s like “Does she HAVE to be the main character of this movie?” 🤣
I watched about half of this. I remember in the first movie thinking alien ship was big enough to have enough gravity to change the tides and cause earthquakes. I could have sworn this movie had a ship LAND large enough to span the a big part of the east coast. I sort of decided it was too much.

Havent watched the whole movie but after seeing this i aint going to waste my time on watching it either.
In all sci-fi, it doesn't matter how advanced the aliens are, they never develop one thing: the ability to aim accurately.
I unscrew the top of my head, remove my brain, put it in a jar, pop some popcorn, pour a tall and tasty beverage and watch this movie. And Battleship. And Starship Troopers. And 2012. And The Rock. And Ghost Rider. And Con Air. And Clash of the Titans. And Face Off. And Cowboys and Aliens. Removing the brain first prevents damage.
Of course the shield goes down when she yells fiercely. That's the alien weakness. Feminist yelling.

At around 2:45 the Queens scream sounds like venom's scream in Spiderman 3.
I like how as the queen appears from the smoke, destroying everything around her, there's no sound whatsoever

I...think they made her too big. You see her foot in the trailer and what I thought to myself was 'oh neat, bio-walkers. A land battle, nice!'
But no. She moves way too fast for our gravity and her size. She's so big she can cover distance real quick. No need for a jump-fly move. She'd outrun that bus right quick and then just step on it. Maybe make her aim at her targets more.
Also fly out of formation when attacking, she can't aim at all of them. Just hit hover, & strafe from behind. Then! she counters with her tentacles.
But I woulda went with a variation the the queen idea. Make it a hive-mind of queens. You gotta fight all at once to win. They have powers when working in unison maybe?
There are other elements that needed...not doing & a massive queen the size of a tower was among them.
She's out there with half of her armada flying about. She can give a single telepathic command and 500 shots pour out of the vessels continuously every second and the bus is dead, then the Orb is dead. Maybe write it that the queen is playing with the bus, like she's torn between the signal & the miniscule size of the bus.
Maybe say that the Orb revealed something new which woulda helped thwart & take down this queen; a taste of what'd happen in the sequel. But...no. No sequel cuz....reasons-a-many.
Also can't stand that they shoot her gun, and then one mentions that they should do what they're already doing. Bad edit.

@@crankysconga I’m operating on the assumption he’s a hype bot for 20th century studios but they used an incorrect format when slotting in the movie/franchise name.
I too hope [error: read manual] becomes a regular occurrence on [insert media format here], in case the great studio behind it decides to dig it back up after [duration not found].

I’m not going to lie I really like this movie, I didn’t love it but I can appreciate what they wanted to do.
I swear, watching this scene, I envision the first bit before the bus chase, where a shield and health bar appear on the screen. Then as Mrs. McPilot says: Unleash all you have, that is when it lets the player take control of the jet and the boss fight begins....this whole entire scene felt like one really, really, reeeeaaallly, fking cheesy as video game sequence.....and its facepalm worthy.
Then this whole movie seems to be where all the characters took: SCREAM!: +100% to all character Main Attributes, +100% to Damage, +250% to shield damage
Boring movie at its best.

Gosh diggity darn its a good thing the aliens shield breaks right as an important character is charging in firing at it. I love me some good ol convenient energy shields.
