@@Chasemtb2392 if you like big rock slabs and rolls its alright lots of chunky stuff to have fun on, but we don't have a single machine built trail in the entire state, so its all pretty low level compared to anywhere else. Luckily I'm super close to mass so I just do most my mtb biking over there where they actually build jumps lol
It is one of the most effective ways I've found to pack relatively flat terrain. The rolling motion does a better job than a plate compactor IMO. That being said it doesn't work well on rollers because you'll drag the nose/tail even if you adjust the setting in the app. Also sometimes there's not quite enough torque and your wheel will get stuck in soft dirt. I would love a bigger tire + higher torque version, but otherwise it's pretty great.
Phil, I can’t thank you and Haley enough for the comment that you create. Your content is informative, entertaining and you both seem like genuine people and you deserve nothing but happiness and success because you both work very hard. Love the trails, I wish they were in my backyard.
Great stuff Phil! Would love to hear about your experience acquiring the property, what you've learned and your recommendations for someone looking to do the same. I know the laws etc differ depending on location. Keep it up!
Great building and landscaping , and wonderful opportunity of flying thru the Vermont Hills...👍👍 With friends, etc over to ride, are you required or plan to have a comprehensive accident insurance for that area... thanks..
I’ve been waiting for this vid for a while thanks for making it I love the way you build and ride but in vid a while back you said you want to make a bridge in the gap of the double after the flyover I would like to see that keep making awesome vids
Yeah, the bridge is still in the plans, a but lower priority right now but still on the to do list. That's actually one of the reasons I built that partial access road where I'm towing the wooodchipper the second time. That's so it will be easier to get lumber out there when it's finally time to build. This year I really wanted to make a point of getting some full runs up and running and having them be functional and fun. The first year we built features that were thumbnail worthy but weren't really loopable without hiking. The second year we roughed in some trails, and then this year we made thing functional. A huge battle is making things resistant to rain and building good drainage which is super time consuming but the payoff is huge when it works well. Next year id like to make a few more fun features and side hits. I've also been toying with the idea of making a full northshore/trialsy course.
This is a great video!! I am currently trying to get my town in New Jersey to put in a bike park very similar to yours. These trails are great for people to get out there and have some fun - especially with kids to get them riding!!
My city got a grant for $2m to a build a trail sytem in Eugene Oregon (Suzanne Arlie park). I'd be shocked if it turns out this well. Submit your bid Phil!!!
I just did a quick walk a second ago and some parts look fine but the wet spots might rut up. I also need to finish the bridge rebuild on lower washout. I started rebuilding it with Hailey but stopped when we ran out of light and wood. That was 3 weeks ago lol.
🤔If there's any scifi/fantasy world I enjoy most its HP. So i don't hate that suggestion! I've thought of calling it Nonamo as a play on Nanaimo. Somebody had suggested haileys commet last year, but that seemd more appropriate for the rock booter at the end
I need you to come talk to the directors of my local trail association. They think that good use of elevation is miles of featureless trails that go up for 2 minutes and then go down for 14 seconds, kind of like a built in 10 mph speed limit.
@skillswithphil love the video and you all put a lot of hard work into those trails! I also have to ask what kind/brand of bumper case you have on your Apple Watch? I’m assuming its a rubber material?
Its been a lot of hard work, but well worth it! It's a spigen bumper (rugged armor?), and i run a the smaller apple watch but with the bigger watch solo loop. I've also run the spigen bumper/strap which looks similar and better but the clasps dug into my wrist while riding.
oh, build your own bike park! and run as a business or just donation supported? Were you out working on the driving range last summer any... between that and cochrans these "bike park" like trail systems are amazing places? I'm wondering where your bike park will be!? I can't wait!
Yeah, i was out volunteering at most of trail days at the driving range last summer while i was also building a lot of this stuff. Sometimes I'd build on both in the same day. The location and shape of the park is TBD, and the idea will be dependent on what i can find but i do want to make it happen soon. I'm getting antsy
have you tried asking your neighbors if you can continue the trail uphill onto their property? alot of people who have properties with alot of woods really dont care if people use them as long as they dont mess it up or anything.
We did one leaf blow pass after all the maple leaves had fallen but before the beech leaves came down.I was planning to experiment and not leaf blow this year, but it couldn't stand riding leaf covered trails. It was so much extra work to maintain speed. Not leaf blowing works better on high traffic trail systems IMO.
@@SkillsWithPhil yeah that's the trick... Trails needs traffic. You've probably seen it already how your trails hold up vs lift served mountain trails. I've been leaving them on my locals but they're more XC, less gravity so it's less impact but always end up breaking a spoke or two. Leaves will aid in Spring recovery and prevent soil erosion. If you can stay off the frost heaves it shouldn't matter I guess. Nice work! Wish I had all those toys on my locals.

I have 3, an echo rancher, a 16 inch dewalt battery powered and a 20 inch dewalt battery powered. The 16 inch dewalt is the one I've used the most by a long shot. It's super easy to use and more than enough for most my needs. That being said, the 20 is much better built but it's also a bit heavier.

How effortlessly Phil links those challenging, rapid-fire features is so impressive.
And talking about it while he's doing it, while also staying articulate.
