I appreciate Phil and his trail etiquette talks, he delivers it from a place of community love. Thank you for all the amazing content and community building you've done. I found your channel when coming back to mtb after a 20 year roadie hiatus. I got the refresher I needed, plus quite a bit more. Thank you
I’m 43 and been riding since the mid 90s. Learned how to bunny hop when I was 40. Needless to say I can barely jump a bike but coming from x country I can flow and haul ass. Hail yourself Phil! You make me want to shred harder🤘🏻
Another banger! Phil also got me into MTB. I was in a hospital bed for 3 weeks, had my lower intestine removed (ulcerative colitis) and his were the first mountain biking I ever saw on UA-cam (back when they actually made decent recommends, not just recycling the same stuff you've already watched). I was 36 and hadn't been on a bike since I was a teenager, and now I'm completely consumed by it 24/7 ... Just a few months ago I cleared every jump on Black Magic at Killington. Actually got kinda emotional cause I was half dead in that hospital, literally dreaming about it, and it became a reality.
Love how humble and welcoming you are Phil! The way you interact with your fans and people who look up to you is truly a beautiful thing. I would love to meet you some day! Just have to leave Australia first 😂
11:33 i totally thought she was leading a group prayer. lol. i ride a '97 GT Avalanche 2.0.... with my 2 very energetic huskies...but on more level ground! Cheers to you and yours!
Man your so right on the statement you made about jumping. I learned the jumping and poping etc skills when I rode my bmx when I was 12 years old and I have friends who can’t jump etc and want to learn but some just can’t grasp It now that they are older. It takes them longer to learn.
It felt really good and somehow comforting hearing from you Phill that when jumping is not learned at younger age, it is difficult to master when at older age. Although I am not really old, it is still tricky for me to learn it. At least now i can partially "blame" my age for it, and not only my lack of talent :D
Phil, it is amazing to see you flying that much in that. Please, come to Mont sainte anne next year, 2 days in a row. You need a local to show you the hidden stuff (without showing how getting in), just with official stuff you gonna have a lot of editing worthy stuff. I promess. Sentier du moulin if fun, MSA is man stuff and you gonna love it for sure. There is a lot of trail for Hailey too.
You’re my favorite mtb UA-camr. You were my inspiration for my channel until I injured my back (not while riding). Now instead of riding vids I’m restricted to restoration vids. Hopefully someday I can get back to a normal lifestyle of working and riding but until then I’ll enjoy the trails through your videos. Thank you!
"If you don't get into it while you're young, it's really hard to get into when you're older" Me looking at my 43 year old ass trying to huck myself skyward. It's so true! For me, a foot of air IS HUUUUUUGE!!!!
I started park riding a few years ago at 50. It's so much fun, but damn, I swear the balls get smaller every year. Wish this stuff was around in my 30's!
yo Phil i have never seen you ride a dh since 2016 then i saw this video about 2 or 3 years ago that you where going to some kind of dh race and i saw this frame just sitting on the wall and now it is so cool to see you finally ride it
As someone who is older I agree with Phil's statement on jumps. I rode bikes all the time when I was younger but never jumped them. Now I'm older (31) and trying to learn to jump and its such a foreign thing and at this point I'm kinda just wondering when I'm going to seriously injure myself. Lol
great video as always, the DH bike sounded so good on all the rocks and roots. Might have been my computer but seemed like you used hyperview for the vidoe and the picture looked amazing but the video seemed more warped then other times, brought the go pro effect to a max personally the superview seems better for your high speed sending but if you like the look i will continue to watch.
Love the video man. This camera angle combined with the DH bike makes it so sick. Definitely would love to see you rip the rig more next season. A DH race vlog would be epic!
I live 10 min down the road and still haven't made it over for biking. This was a great video. BV should hire you for some marketing vids. I'm definitely going to get up there in the spring. Just gotta build a new rig. See you all out there!
I started bmx racing went to the worlds got bored and then I fell in love with freeride and all due to the Seasons movie. Cool to see another marine mtber
so sick to see you on the big bike today phil. i miss my big bike. went from an m9 from intense to a firebird from pivot. love my new bike. but sometimes just miss that dh bike feel... and the agility of smaller wheels. love the vids man. getting me stoked for my trip to spain. and yes im trying to take my bike. just hoping i can find someone who has i bike bag i can borrow. haha!
Started jumping with 43. Also only xc background since im 15. Now im 44 and clearing at least small gaps of 15 feet. But i was training almost every day if weather allowed. I cracked the code after 6 months. From there on it was only about confidence and finding the right timing for different speeds
I def need to check this place out, i am getting sick of highland the lines were not so bad this year but they took 2 moths to open the good trails maybe even longer. from some reason September they were only open end of week and weekend. I have Tuesday weds Thursday off, got a season pass and only went there 6 times. I also got the pass to use the HTC season pass and it was full every time and only open weekends. there are so many places NH Vermont i am just going to go to them all next year.
ive got to say phil, ive been riding since before full suspension madness has started. i turned my original mountain bike into a hybrid. big tires road gears and my bike was pretty fast. i have ridden down some pretty steep hills. i have ridden some of the continental divide. that was ok. i got a set of custom wheels that weren't working well so i had to have a bike shop in durango to re do them which i was not happy about. then i had a custom bike built, so there's only one of one. it was a very cool bike. then i got justin his first mountain bike. i road his all summer before i gave it to him. i'm not at all comfortable jumping. i can do small jumps but big jumps just freak my out. i don't have any trouble going fast. i road down a hill here in AZ and i hit 80 mph. i did try to pedal a bit but i was going way to fast. my gears are 11-18. i'm going to go and get a friend to drive me down that hill and i'm going to record it. then i'm going to send it to justin ask him for it. i drove a car down same hill a few days later. i started at the top put the car in neutral and we got going 100 mph before we got to the bottom.
Unsure why but really enjoyed this one at Bolton more than the last. No comments on adjusting to the full 27.5, so I'm gonna assume it was a pretty easy adjustment for you & you just prefer 29 nowadays!
IDk what to think of the gopro hyper view yet. I think it's nice on the bike but as soon as you're next to it I'd switch back to super view otherwise it is just really to distorted
Yeah, I agree. I wanted to post a video without mentioning what settings i was using to see if people would pick up on it. But I'm also running it under my visor instead of my chinbar. There's certain situations where i cant mount a camera to my chin so this in my opinion is not the ideal setup, but passable if needed.
I'm always curious about DH and enduro bike comparisons. I bought a DH bike last season and loved how I could ride all day and have something left for another day. Still, the enduro bike gives you back so much more energy for popping off things.
I like the versatility of an enduro bike. I can ride 95% of the same terrain, but i can also climb and ride non lift serviced stuff. It does make some trails more fun too because its a bit more playful. DH bikes are a good if you only ride park, plan to race downhill, or already have a trail bike and want something for bike parks.
@Gregorio Nani Take your Enduro Bike, it's more than enough for whistler unless you're entering a DH race; You can ride whistler for a few days and then also ride squamish and the other goods around. Best of both worlds
great video, great scenery too.. Also most time to start waxing your skis ... Do you ski Bolton valley, Stowe, Mad river Glen.. ??? thanks for the video 🚲🚲
Hey Phil quick question: I didn't know flying bicycles or hover bikes were a thing... where did you get yours?? Seriously man you plow through all the tech and make it seem like you're just floating above it. Awesome riding, very inspiring!
I also been wanting to ask you if you have heard about the Mt Washington new DH trails. i need to look into it but i ran across a vid of a guy testing the trails, so i was kind of curious, they seemed like crushed stone like trails. little different from what i seen. curious if you have heard anything or have gone there.
hey, i am struggling with riding larger jumps, i went to blue mountain earlier this season and jumped on a DH bike and the smaller jump lines were fine but as soon as try on something like empire i start feeling uncomfortable because of the steep lips. is there anything i should do when riding steeper jumps? I have no problems doing drops of nearly any size so its not about size of stuff it just messes up my rhythm and i case on steeps.
@@SkillsWithPhil nice! thought this frame would never see light lol. i guess the next thing would be since you have mainly ridden the 29er force, would you still consider the 29er fury?
@@glentot9243 I ordered the wheels when 27.5 was still the main wheel size for DH. That's the reason why it's 27.5. I don't really wanted to sink much time into this bike as I don't plan to ride it much.
You know the terrain is serious when Phil busts out the downhill bike
FR THO!
Phil what a stand up dude, you fell into the pool and even fixed it.
I wish I had a Phil with skills to guide me like this
Me too
Yeah, what he said
I know right , i need mtb friends 😭

Awesome to see you helping that guy with the drop! So stoked he nailed it and got to do it with the guy who got him into riding again.

Thanks for helping the former Marine out with the jumps. Support for Veterans!
A nice reminder of better weather in a December storm👍😂

Thanks for the fist bump!
I love seeing the elation and rush of adrenaline when Phil helps someone or anyone hits a new element.
Bike park laps on a downhill bike. It’s one of the true joys in life
Great day shreddin', Phil & Hailey...

I'm from Quebec and I tried Bolton this fall and it's such a nice place it will definitely a spot where I will want to go back every year.
You are a great example to other rides on the trail. It's great to see someone with your talents be so respectful and helpful to others.
I think this is what we all want, phil in a DH bike
I can't believe how his bike just goes through all these roots, rocks, everything... and no fear of front wheel washing out.
Awe the Muck fall was unexpected
Glad your ok !

How cool for the tag along guy in the black Fox jersey. Got to ride behind Skills with Phil. That's a good day!
The way you hit those berms is incredible phil 👌
This is funny watching this video with my bike put away and bolton Vallley opening tomorrow!!!
May the Force remain with you! Stay healthy. Great riding!
I was just watching a video on how to care for hermit crabs before this and this comment confused the hell out of me LMAO
I wish I had a good bike and was confident like you Phil

7:08 exactly. Love this man
I was there all day and just KNEW you had to be lurking around somewhere!
And after watching the video, I wiped out in that exact same spot too.

How in the heck do you negotiate all those basketball sized boulders like there's nothing to it? 😂

what gopro or camera does phil use?
