That bike is ginormous for him I am SOOO impressed that kid can throw that thing around like that. That's like the equivalent of someone who's 5'6" riding a 450 moto. Shout to Sterling, I love this kid
Sterling was adorable and awesome doing what he’s doing at his age and not being afraid to be social very cool! I love the way you and Hailey love children and like to entertain their ideas and challenges. Speaks a lot that even tho you’re there to do your own thing and obviously rank at a different level most of the time especially when it’s young children you really put yourself in the back so that they can shine and show off what they are doing
I love watching you because you're one of the only really popular MTB youtubers who really gives time and attention to their fans.. Every video I see you talking with some kid you've never met or riding in a train full of strangers who all love you because of the exact same reason I do. Keep being you pretty please. P.S. Jarrod's Place/Blankets Creek/Big creek/Pinhoti in Georgia is calling you :)
i swear watching phil ride is crazy, the gaps and the fact hes riding blind, hes mad and deserves such a bigger following. love the whole vibe he gives off + always bringing his gf, so cool to see
theres a real nice community spirit among you riders of trails ...really nice to see in the world ..appreciate your uploads phil greets from australia mate
Seems kind of dangerous to arbitrarily use the European trail system here considering the most popular bike parks in the area and throughout the continent already use the triangle to indicate pro line. 🤷♂️
@@SkillsWithPhilIt sure would be confusing but why would it be dangerous? Its not like somebody that wants to ride a pro line is gonna struggle on a red
Red triangle at Whistler = extremely hard Red triangle ~3hours away = warm up trail. You don't need to be a rocket surgeon to understand how that could lead to some dangerous situations.
@@SkillsWithPhil it seems to be an international standard. I don't see how this system could be dangerous, since the worst thing that can happen is someone overestimating how difficult a red trail is, thinking it's a pro line.
its basically the European trial rating. the green blue red black is very standard but pro line generally varies. In England its mostly orange but for whatever reason at bike park Wales they went with purple
I don't think that's s bad thing either, but it's concerning that there are now two vastly different meanings for the🔺symbol and it could put some riders in really dangerous positions.
@@SkillsWithPhil that I no doubt agree with, because my 2 local trail centres mark their trails differently, so when I thought I was getting on a easy cool red line I was actually on a pro line.. which did NOT end well
@@SkillsWithPhilwhile i would kinda agree. You have to research things if youre going to get into dangerous activities. So its on each rider to gain their own knowledge. Plus signage that tells what the key means is really good.
I’m a fan of the red trail designation. I just think there’s usually too big a gap between blue and black trail ratings. At any rate, the imba system could use a little tweak
Fun thing about these ratings: they’re the official ones in Europe! Over in the U.K. we don’t have many double blacks or prolines, but when you see a double black it means business already 😂 looks sick!
As far as the trail ratings go, tough to implement a standard as it's basically regional and subjective. Mr. Kendall-Weed was just there on the Ibis HD6. Conclusion: big, fun but big. OK for a lot of the trails but best suited for fast enduro style dbl blk downhill. He did both ferry excursions, moto w/bike carrier, overnight tent camp.
I hope GT or someone takes care of that kid he’s awesome. Maybe make a school deal with him good grades = nice discounts or a bike. Something to keep him motivated long Term.
Like you said… that kid keeps riding I have no doubt he will be sponsored eventually. Kid is already out shredding most adults on a bike 3 times to big for him.
No doubt, but I will say, i have seen it time and time again. Very talented young riders reach the age of owning a car, and they stop riding all together. Ive also seen very talented young riders get pushed too hard by parents to succeed that they resented riding. i can name a dozen kids that fall into both.
i phil i am just wondering how far north you will go as there are new trails being built in Tumber Ridge, BC. they are saing should be done for the middle of sept. not sure if this is something you would like to try?
They use Red squares (not triangles) which imo makes more sense in North America since red triangles can mean two very different things depending on where you are coming from.
I find that more municipalities that have public mtb trails and private owned trail networks are over rating trails to protect themselves from liabilities. Using fear and the riders inaquaites to prevent them from riding the trail or riding it very slow and cautious. Its either that, or we are left with neutered xc trails. Although I live in fairly non viritcal elevation area of Canada. Southern Ontario. Lot of our local trails are way over rated. Blacks are mostly trails that have steep long climbs and steep rooty with some rock decents, table top jumps. Double blacks are same as blacks with more janky roots and rocks. 1 to 4 foot drops or small gap jumps, rollers and the like. Reds are 5 foot and above drops, higher steeper rollers, crazy off camber jank and rock gardens, super skinnies and the like.
I usually find those confident kid ambitions in mtb are questioned after the first big crash….which will happen. As we speak, I'm healing from a major crash 3 days ago, and even this video is giving my anxiety right now lol.
The smell of gasoline and perfume are the biggest distractions when you get older 😂 I stopped riding when I got my license and just got back into it, now I'm in my 30s.
I think the ideal rating system is Green circle 🟢 (good how it is), blue square 🟦 (ive seen some pretty spicy blues mby chill some of em out), red triangle 🔺️ (difficult blues to easy-mid blacks), make single black diamond basically take hard black to moderate double black, and make double black truly expert unlimited, cause i feel like some double blacks are just too easy and some blues are just way too hard
Red triangles in BC trail networks is a thing... Why? Dunno... Our blues are equivalent to double blacks elsewhere in the world.... We just be different out here hahaha 😅😅😅
I guess Sterling's Mom, Dad, Aunt or Uncle was nearby? Because I don't think that a parent would trust their kid well enough to go there, alone... No matter how good he is.
Isn’t it strange how 20 years ago (before cell phones) that this was a healthy and normal behavior? What changed? Perhaps you are actually the problem 🤔 Helicopter Parents have become a disease. The kid is inside a park..let him go as long as he can what’s the big deal? A lifeline to mom is in his pocket
@@Vulcan650Vampiremaking sure a child is fine isn’t being a helicopter parent ☠️ you act like the person is saying they hope the parent starts riding on the same bike as the kid. @@encapsulated_nomad1359I agree with you but parents are way too protective. Everything bad about today’s world also existed when we were kids. Without all the security camera footage and cell phones. I just don’t understand the level of paranoia in parents these days. Most kids can’t even ride their bike around the block unless supervised…wtf is that? Even though every house has a ring doorbell. You gotta admit…it’s concerning
Any person that makes this kind of comment on a YT video is not letting their children leave the house. The world is a much safer place today but yet we increase restrictions on kids? Why? Then we wonder why they are addicted to phones…Um yeah, because their parents won’t let them leave their house and explore. It’s very sad. Sleepovers with your friends on the weekend are a thing of the past. Gross

Loved seeing Hailey grinning in the background as the kid is negotiating with you 😆

So awesome to see kids school me on my bike rather than on Xbox

It looks similar to the European trail rating system - same with ski trail ratings, although we don't have double blacks so could be different

Saying yes to that kid for the challenge and holding up your word was mad cute man.

Standard outside of NA for trails to follow the skiing system: Green - Blue - Red - Black - Black with diamonds / Pro Line
Do you mean red is a ski thing? I've never seen a red run

Those are not confusing ratings, that's how every trail is rated here in EU :P

Phil, it looks like this park may be using the British trail rating system.
Phil, I just got a GT Force Pro. Same spec you have. Would it be intelligent to put a 190 Zeb on it?
@4:57 Nature calls haha

In the U.K. normally red is below a black
Cracked up with you comment about flooring it if they didn't let you on the ferry 🙂

Epik trail awesome video
That kids fork is about as big as he is :P
What settings are you running on your 2.1 Zeb , psi, lsc, hsc , rebound and how much you weigh, I just got a new Zeb and am setting it up thanks
I wish it was that simple but there's too many variables for my settings to be of any use to you.
Red triangles are commonplace here in the uk
Maybe just in the UK? They are definitely Not common place in North America where this park is located.
Would love to see the adoption of the double blue between blue and black. I believe red =double blue in much of Europe.
Can you stick a mic back on Hailey when she goes down the trails. Love the noises and squeals she makes when going down them
GT definitely needs to Promote Sterling and the younger aka the future
he said.. no doubt in my mind... no doubt? none... shiiit! lmfao...
Trailsigns change in color AND shape, so people who are (red-green) colorblind have no problem identifying the difficulty of the trail.
