  • Hi everybody! Here, for your educational enjoyment, I present to you the individual background harmony parts for The Beatles song "Michelle" from their "Rubber Soul" album. If you haven't already seen it (and heard it), my video of the full song can be found at • Michelle (Beatles cover)
There are six individual harmony parts. I've divided them into three high parts and three low parts. Although there are many similarities between the high and low parts, they are not identical. If you would like to perform this song but only have three backing vocalists, I'd recommend covering the three high parts. If you only have two backing vocalists at your disposal, I'd recommend covering the parts labelled "High 1" and "High 2".
This video starts with a mix of all six parts.
    "High 1" starts at 0:41
    "High 2" starts at 1:23
    "High 3" starts at 2:06
    "Low 1" starts at 2:47
    "Low 2" starts at 3:29
    "Low 3" starts at 4:12

It's not that easy to keep those harmonies so clean when singing in low scales. Great falsetto at Paul's part.
As always, congratulations... Keep those videos coming! ^_^

Great tutorial. It's a wonder the managed to fit all six voices onto a four-track tape machine.

    • @jasonsnusberry3654
      @jasonsnusberry3654 3 роки тому +1

What they would do was do some takes of the voices on 3 or 4 tracks of the machine and combine them into one track. This practically allows for any amount of tracks they could want.

@@jasonsnusberry3654 yeah but they also had all those guitars as well as a bass and drums.

@@elirosen1391 But they used the same method. In fact those were done first, starting with drums, going to bass and guitar, and finally vocals, since vocals could eat up more space than instruments maybe could if harmonies were involved.

Well done. Interesting that when harmonies are combined they can sound similar even if each harmony took a different pathway to get there. When I recorded the harmonies for a backing track for my tribute band's rendition of Michelle ("you bounder, you cheat!), I came up with pretty much the same block of harmonies as yours but my individual ones went in quite different directions. The one thing you've missed though is the low "my Michelle" at the end: C C down to F.

Marcus Phelan Yes, it’s always interesting to try to figure out which voice goes where, line-wise. By the way, I do have the low C C F (perhaps it can be heard better in isolation at around 4:40 at the end of the video).

@@AllYouNeedIsLub Thanks for getting back to me, love your work. What I meant by "my Michelle" is that the actual words are sung, not just the notes. It's kinda cheesy, but is the cherry on the cake for me when I hear it, or sing it at a gig. "My Michelle" - cracks me up every time.

The oohs you do here are on the bridge and the instrumental part with George’s guitar solo and you also do the hums at the end of the song on the cue
