Thank you for this. My ZZ plant was very bushy but the bottom stems turned yellow and had to cut them off. Now there are visible stems which have hardened on the top part and the remaining stems are very tall or leggy and tipping over. I'm afraid to touch it which is how I found your video . Now I can be brave and chop the long stems off and root them in water.
My friend just gave me a separation root bulb from her ZZ plant when we repotted it. Since it had many roots I put it in a new pot & brought it home. We are in Phoenix and her two ZZ plants are thriving!
I love all the plants but my favorite are cactus and succulents. Thank You for showing the blue container again with all the gorgeous cactus in there. Greetings from Chicago Nell.
Your vids are so full of great info even someone like me who doesn’t know anything about plants has learnt a lot! Thank you for taking time to share your expertise
tHANKS FOR sharing. I purchased a zeezee earlier this year, and a stem broke off...i'm pretty sure i put it in water in early June but it's JUST now sprouting a nice, thick root that I feel comfortable placing in soil! I'm excited...I love these plants..and looking forward to having more of these in my home!! Also, i read that you want it to grow a tuber(s) before placing in soil! Yours look great!
Hello Nell, I just planted a ton of Cuttings from a big ZZ I had. Now what I did was put the cuttings in Clear Glass Jars/ Vases with Water. The Water is Tap Waher but I usually collect the Water in a White Bucket and let it Sit for a Minimum of 24 hours before I use it for Watering my Plants or Rooting any Cuttings and my Lucky Bamboo as well. -Then every Week I will Change the Water in the Glass Jars with the 24 hour Water and repeat till I see Root Growth. I must add that I always held the Cutting under the tap Water in slightly towards the Warm to Cold Temp. and wash away any residue like Slime etc. Then I Washed out the Jars/Vases with Soapy Water before putting back the Cuttings into the Jars/Vases.The roots Came just in 2 -3 Months time and they all had roots which I then planted. To recap, I got the Mother plant in Sept.2017, and Dec 2017 all the cuttings all 20 plus Stems with leaves had roots. I now have in total 5 ZZ plants. ( they are my Favourite) lol I had more than 20 Stems as the plant was huge but I gave away another 15 Stems to a Cousin. She has already planted hers before mine She used distilled Water in hers. xoxox Charleen.
The cacti next to you are gorgeous! I didn't have any luck propagating my zz in water ,but I did have luck with leaf cuttings (of course it took me two years)! Thanks for sharing!
I have a stem and 3 leaves propagtjng right now and the stem is rooting much faster than the leaves. But the leaves are starting to show signs of roots and I didn’t take any stem with them, so it can be done I think it’s just a longer process. Thank you for making this video now I have an idea when my plant will be ready to plant
Suzanne here, for some reason as i have found out, some stalks will root and some just will not, if they dont buy the 2nd month, they normally wont root at all
When the ZZ plant leaves or stems (depending on method used) have grown roots and are ready to add to a pot, should you pot multiple leaves/stems together in one pot for a fuller zz plant, or would it be too over-crowded with multiple zz plants growing in one pot? Or is just one leaf/stem per pot enough for a full, bushy zz plant? Thanks!
Such a wonderful video Nell :-D I have a ZZ plant and will definitely be having a go at propagating this beauty in the Spring :-D thanks so much for sharing and sending lots of love and plant power from Ireland to Arizona xxxxx
What kind of lighting (window direction ) do they like? How deep should they be planted? When l buy them they seem to be at the top of the containers and fall over alot.
The tallest stems on one of my Zz's are about 63". I thought I was doing something wrong because I've had this flopping issue and I kept thinking maybe they needed to mature and get stronger finally I just staked them.
My ZZ stem cutting has about 6 roots now since I propagated it (one of them more than an inch long, the others closer to half an inch). When should I stick it in the soil? Should I wait until it has as many roots as your cutting or when it has tubers or can I plant it now?
I have zz plant and its getting larger i want to replant it but i afraid i might hurt the roots and it might die need help how wiil i do it inorder for my plant not to hurt the roots.
Hi Neil, I was moving and a piece broke off last year. I also stuck it in water but after 9 months nothing appeared. Then we moved so it got trashed. I will try again. Thanks
My leaf cutting is turning yellow, help please? I put egg shells in the soil i put it in and i think thats why, i changed the soil, is there anything else I can do about it?
seems every time i go to walmart i will grab a zz, i never had any till 2 years ago , and when i found out how easy they are to grow, i had to have more, they facinate me, i give mine a lot of bright light, i found they grow much much faster that way, i have several under my table lamps in the living room as well, walmart sells them cheap on line , dont even bother,
Hi! Please help me if you can, I have what I think is a dying ZZ plant. It belonged to my father so I really want to try to save it. I think I overwatered it. I repotted it in cactus soil (saw online) and that seemed to make it worse. I now have it potted in cactus and regular soil, but I don't want it to keep dying. What would you suggest doing?
My zz won't grow. I took it out the soil and put the root ball in water. So far, no new growth!! I'm going to just put it in fresh soil..and try it again 🤷♀️🤷♀️
I just recently discovered the zz, and love this plant, also. I also just recently discovered your videos and love them, too. :-) Can you tell me what the beautiful cactus with the golden spines is at :58?
I am no professional but i think it has to be left out for an hour or so to form a callus around and then pop it in water so it doesnt rot... hope it helps..
Hi there Nell 👋🏽 I have a white crepe myrtle about 10 feet tall. It'll be a year since I purchased & planted it. I need to know when is the best time to prune it , it's dormant right now. Any suggestions ?
It's always best to prune in spring. Pruning encourages new growth, and if you have tender stalks and leaves as winter approaches, you risk damaging the tree (or plant) or even killing it.
Before moving to Texas, I had to keep my ZZ plant in a storage garage for over three weeks without sun or watering. The plant did fine and now is in Texas. and loving it. www.exoticrainforest.com/Zamioculcas%20zamiifolia%20pc.html
Hi Nell. I have a ZZ plant that I neglect the older stems/leaves look good dark green. On the other hand, the newer growth is dying. I water every 4-8 weeks. Should I water more often? I'm on the east coast. My kitchen is dry in winter and humid in summer and the plant receives indirect light.
Hi Nicole - I water my ZZ Plants every 3 weeks here in Tucson in the winter months. If the new growth is dying gradually, it sounds like the plant needs more water. It's a bit tricky because these plants store water in their tubers & stems & can be prone to over watering. Nell
I just aquired 2 zz plant stems, they were on the floor at the nursery. First i tired water , then i got nervous about rot, so then i balanced them standing up on the surface of my ficus , started to get soft and wrinkled. So now its in grit... maybe ill go back to water. Thanks for the videos
You said you wanted to talk less but you still keep distracting and deviating from the main theme. No, not important to mention that you are standing beside a Bougainvillea because... It also not Sisi plant or CC plant... people call it ZZ plant with ZED! I think you can get everything into a 4 Minute video if you stop deviating from what you want to say, stop repeating and dont include sillinesses like... Hi Charleen - Thanks so much for sharing. 3 of my stems still aren't showing roots but they look fabulous. You never know with plants! Nell xo
Thank you Nell, you are most welcome. Appreciate this video a lot great info. Charleen xoxo
Do I have to cut them as close to the root as possible or can I just snip some stems off while it’s still in the pot?
The cacti next to you are gorgeous! I didn't have any luck propagating my zz in water ,but I did have luck with leaf cuttings (of course it took me two years)! Thanks for sharing!
Oh yes that's my Fence Post. And you're welcome! Nell

I'm from Ireland too! Where do you get your plants??

Hi - I've seen that happen with the new growth in spring. Nell
I did it by a couple of leaves and they now have the small bulbs so it works but it takes a long time 😅
You're wonderful. Thank you for being you 💚❤️💚
Nice video, thank you for sharing ❤️
My ZZ raven went soggy and fell over in June and I water propped the stems. There are tubers now!!! How quick.
can and should you propagate a ZZ plant with yellow leaves? will it rot away?
My ZZ stem cutting has about 6 roots now since I propagated it (one of them more than an inch long, the others closer to half an inch). When should I stick it in the soil? Should I wait until it has as many roots as your cutting or when it has tubers or can I plant it now?
From content to camera to special effect noises I declare this video ZZ Fantastic !

Hi Neil, I was moving and a piece broke off last year. I also stuck it in water but after 9 months nothing appeared. Then we moved so it got trashed. I will try again. Thanks
Hi Sally - It's not a fast process, that's for sure. The stems look great in a vase & I'm curious how long it takes the others to root. Nell
Love you & your plants... Very informative canal.
I got a cutting of a zz plant, should I let it heal for an hour before putting it in water, or not? Please let me know, thank you so much!

Were the smaller cuttings new shoots or the tips of larger stems?
My zz plant is turning light green, and some of the leaves are brown. What's wrong with her 😢
Thank you for sharing this... I am giving this a try right now.
Hello! I have my zz plants propagated for 5 to 6 weeks and still not rooted. What do you think is wrong? Or does it take more time?
Think it can take up to 6 months from the stem propagation!!! :(
I just cut my ZZ plants, how long does it take to re-grow back? or it stays like that?
Outstanding. They said it couldn't be done!!
What type of potting mix do you use

Bonai Robinson maybe try to cut out watering , and just mist the leafs, could be a bad root system
My zz won't grow. I took it out the soil and put the root ball in water. So far, no new growth!! I'm going to just put it in fresh soil..and try it again 🤷♀️🤷♀️
