Loved the video! You explained everything so a novice like me can understand. Watched it 3 times and took notes. I live in Michigan and hardly any sun in the winter. Will setting it by a lamp several hours a day be okay?
Hello! I'm so glad to hear that. Also, zz plant is a hardy plant. It will be okay as long as it will not get frozen. Though it prefer a warm temp to grow fast. Under a lamp will help it get warm.
I found it helpful to allow the area where the cut is to dry on my cutting a bit and callus over (1-2 hrs) before putting it in water. It helped a lot with preventing rot on the bottom of the stem, that and changing the water weekly. Great video! I found this really helpful for growing strong zz babies!
Just got one of these and I'm completely in love. So amazing that you can propagate using virtually any part of the plant. I'm going to make a lot of new ones to give to others. Thanks!
I have just started to gain interest in gardening n since I have seen this zz I'm in love with this plant will definitely try this method of propagation thanks for this video, I have saved it for further reference 😘
GREAT VIDEO ! I clean my cuttings under the running water and rub off any rotted looking stems and put back into room temperature water. Never use Cold Water if you live in Cold Climate Countries/ Cities, it is a tropical plant therefore it needs room temperature water when you water the plant or cleaning the stems in water. ----- In Tropical Climates it grows in a partial shaded outdoor areas but North America it is a potted plants in most homes including mine. I have several pots and cuttings which I love a lot. You have to remember it will need repotting every few years as it will begin to stress if it grows flower. Never keep it overgrown in one pot this will stress the plant. Good healthy combination soil is best till you repot it in few years with the every so often fertilizer to keep the plant healthy. My favourite plant indeed. ---- Cheers !
Mine flowered about 6 times last year. That’s a sign of stress? I thought it was a good sign as I had a ton of new growth as well. It def needs a new pot as it’s outgrown the one it’s in. It’s huge and absolutely my prized plant. Have so many people enamored with it. I guess I need to start propagating and see about separating to new pots. Hate to change it from the fullness it is. Is that what you would do? I wish I could upload a photo!!
I love zz plants, their structure is so beautiful, and trust me they do survive on low light, even if they get 1 hr of sun and then is just bright light.... because mine is thriving.
so that's the name of it. my sister has one and it's about 4 feet tall. very easy to grow. beautiful plant. luv the music. like my sister she has so many of them now.
Thanks for this video! At the end of the video, showing the roots after 1 month in water, is that enough growth to plant into soil, or would you wait longer for more root growth?
Omgosh I wish I had looked this up months ago!! I was given several cuttings when I moved into my new home 4 months ago, and they have hardly rooted at all. Nothing like the roots at the beginning of this video! I never changed the water, just added new water once in awhile. When I go home tonight I'll clean the bottom of my cuttings and give them fresh water.
Thanks fir quite informative video for propagation, but the question is after propagation, how ti pot in soil and what type of soil mix and fertilizers required??🎉
Love it! ❤ I have a question - I had to cut all the petioles because of root rot. I put them in water - but when I checked the base 4 days later, the base was slimy. How do I fix this?
ifyou cut it diagonal would it work better cause normally they cut it diagonal with other plantsso the surface area to absorb water get larger and dont get blocked of while sitting in the glass.
Hi! Watching this now because one of my zzs just sent up a variegated petiole full of variegated leaves! I would love to propagate and have a variegated plant but Im terrified of cutting it and losing it...
That is so exciting! Did the variegation just pop up out of an otherwise green plant? I guess I’m already answering my own question here. Unless you have a Raven ZZ, where it shoots up neon green before turning darker gradually, seeing variegation turn up is uncommon. Hope it works! Perhaps experiment with a couple of single leaf cuttings first, before attempting more? That way your variegated stem can still be on your plant in case the propagations should somehow fail. 😉
@@gudrunorca It did! It's not a raven or anything! It's only got 6 leaves so I'm really scared I'll lose them - I'm going to wait until spring and then try - maybe I'll do just a few like you said so I don't accidently lose all the leaves and with it the variegation :)
Help me to know fertilizer to be used for zz and the process. I have written to many people bt none have revert back on it. Please...I want to make my plant lush and deep green

Hello! So after pulling it out after it has rooted, do I still need to air dry it or can I just plant it in the soil immediately? Thank you for the response.
Hello as for me. I plant it in a slightly dry soil. I didnt water right away. Then i start giving little by little. But the best time to transfer them in soil is when they grow a tubers or bulb already.
They don’t grow back from the top. The bulb always grow from the bottom only of the stems and leaves. I rub the bottom only if the roots are not there yet.
Hello , thank you so much, I have a question, could take more than one month???? Or if there are no roots comes out that is mean it’s failure plant?? Thank u 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺

Thank you so much for your informative video! I purchased a ZZ Raven from a nursery and didn’t realize until a few later how root rot it was. The tuber was completely mushy. I do have a question though, once it has rooted but has not completely formed a tuber should I still let it air dry before putting it back in water?
thank you! for this video. I pulled my ZZ plant out of the soil and seperated the bulbs to re plant and now the leaves are turning yellow? what am I doing wrong?
Hello! When doing so. Maybe you have scratch some of the roots and you may have planted it before it healed. Or you may have watered the plant right away after planting it back so it didnt got time to heal. But then, this situation, the yellowing of leaves after taking out the bulb, happens alot. Plants get stressed too.
@@hugebelle thank you for replying.... I think they are doing ok now... I changed the soil to dry soil and left them for a couple of weeks and now I water very little once a week. Now I have 3 individual plants and 1 bulb just sitting in some dry dirt? Is that a good idea?
@@MyMEGAamazinglife1 hello I'm happy to hear from you. The bulb will just continue to give new plants even you will just place it on the table. But it will grow faster in soil and grow roots if you plants it.
Hello, I have a zz plant here. But the problem is, my zz turns to yellow now. And I don't know to treat this. Should I stay it away from the sun? How many days before I water it? I hope you can answer me. I'm so sad right now. Thank you so much.

Can we grow ZZ Plant permanently in water ?
Excellent! Thank you!
This is really interesting and helpful 👍🏼 thanks!
Trying this with leaf cuttings. I hope I have some success!
Dear please advice that can we put any nutrition or liquid fertilizer in container to boost propagation procees plz reply
You can dip your cuttings in a mixture of honey + water right after you cut for 1 to 3 hours then put it in water
How long do you let the zz plant cutting dry before putting in the water ?
What you do with the left over petiole without leaf?
And the plant that you cut all the petiole ? Leave it in the pot and new shoots will come?
Can you grow a petiole cutting without leaflets?
This is exactly what I needed!!!!!! Thank you so much.
Very good info. What kind of dirt do you use once they’re ready to be planted.
will the part that you left, from where you cut the petiole from on the original plant regrow?
its always the bulb or rhizomes only that gives new growth.
What’s the next step after the leaf cuttings grow roots?
I have an unrooted petiole cutting with leaves. Can I propagate the leafless petiole after cutting the leaves off?
Hello! So after pulling it out after it has rooted, do I still need to air dry it or can I just plant it in the soil immediately? Thank you for the response.

I have just a rhizome with roots with me..will it grow in to a plant?
yes. have to plant it in dirt.
Number of plants is over 9000 :D 💚
Would you also cut the top? I noticed you rubbed and cut the bottom-my plant has that on the top opposite of the root
They don’t grow back from the top. The bulb always grow from the bottom only of the stems and leaves. I rub the bottom only if the roots are not there yet.
I had a leaf planted from so long there is still no new growth on it. Can u plz tell me how long it takes to see a new stem or growth on that leave
Esta planta cada cuánto hay que regarla? Gracias de antemano
Cada mes aproximadamente.

What happens to the stem you just cut from the mother plant? Will it regrow?
