Generally I prefer the newer single logo GS models. But I think that on this model with the polar white dial the dual logo looks better as it fills in the blank space. A lovely watch.
Confirmed pretty much everything you say. Thanks for sharing. I own sbgx261 (black dial) for 5 months now. I wear it everyday. It is by far, the most comfortable bracelet watch I had. Perfect size, perfect weight. Bit too thick for a dress watch. Finishing unmatched in 2000USD bracket. BB36 and Aquaterra was also under consideration, but GS won due to comfort and overall package. My first quartz. I can't recommend enough.
I was also debating between this, the BB36, and the Aqua Terra. This won out with its combination of finishing, versatile styling, and amazing movement for a daily watch. I expect this to be one of the few watches I keep for a long time. Thank you for the comment!
Love my SBGX261. Also love my Aqua Terra 38mm. Both these watches have amazing tech, finishing and wearability. That said, for good or I’ll, the GS feels much closer to a classic Rolex OP than does the Omega. On another note, was that the UC quad at UofT in the background there?
Great review and enjoy the watch! I actually bought and returned my first GS a few weeks ago. It was a sbgw231. Such a gorgeous watch, however something that I did not really recognize from any of the reviews was just how hard to read it was in full sun or inside dimly lit environments. I think this one should be better due to the flat sapphire and white dial, resulting in a better contrast ratio, however the polished/brushed hands and markers, while great looking, will always be an issue as far as the readability is concerned. All that being said though, still an awesome watch and being HAQ, servicing and accuracy are simply a non issue!
Great job, Jack. Love your enthusiasm for this model, as well as, Grand Seiko in general. Undoubtedly, my all-time favorite brand. The 9F series is amazing, to put it mildly. Sometimes w/ a dial, less can be so much more, and we have that here. Keep up the good work
I have to agree with you Jack , a GS 9F is a great way to go for a daily wearer (just get up and go 9F accuracy and ease) Simple yet elegant with still those zaratsu markers and hands and a clean white dial . Though my next GS and 1st 9F SBGV243 , it’s not as versatile as your watch on video, but I really like the sporty look and the Lume. All my GS are dressy/ sport casual so that SBGV243 is the one for me. It’s just gonna have to wait as I was able to secure the LE SGBW275 2 weeks ago and this Friday went to the GS boutique and out the 30% down payment for the SLGA007. Thanks for another great review Jack
Thank you for the kind words. Yeah you just can’t beat 9F accuracy as a grab and go. Before this I had the SBGT035 which was very similar. That SBGV definitely is a nice daily with a much sportier side then the ones i’ve had. I’ve seen some people even put those on bracelets which looks great, although that would cost a pretty penny to buy. Also, i’ve only seen the SLGA007 in photos but it looks spectacular. Congrats on your new purchases!
@@JackOnWrist thanks Jack I have to wait till November for the SGBW275 and December for the SLGA007, give me time to appreciate my recent watch purchases the SBGJ249 and the King Seiko 140th anniversary reissue . Normally I give myself months/ years with a watch before another purchase but I have been fortunate enough to buy some great watches that I rotate as best as possible. The 9F doesn’t get the attention it deserves
Beautiful watch, absolutely gorgeous! Great review as always. Looks great on your smaller wrist. My wrist is slightly bigger, should look okay still. 19 mm lug width though?? Only annoying thing. Love that dial too! Pure white baby!!!!!!!
Yeah it fit great on my wrist but really should fit any size well. The 19mm lug width is fairly annoying because it’s just so uncommon. Honestly, you could squeeze a 20mm strap in there with almost no issue. The other route would of course be to just buy a few nice 19mm’s to have some “switchablity” in style.
Thought I recognized my alma mater, U of M (class of '83). I have a 6.5-in. wrist, good to see it fits on yours even with the band extensions (49mm). Also no other review mentioned the lack of a micro adjustment, which could be an issue as I like to wear a watch that doesn't rock back and forth. Good review!
Hey Guys! Sorry if the audio isn’t the best. I just moved into college and forgot my mic. The new one is coming and things should sound better soon. I am also working on a new recording space so I can be louder and show my enthusiasm for all things watches (I didn’t want to disturb my neighbors which is why I may come off as monotone in this video).
Good review! I've had my eye on this for awhile. How would you describe the finishing on the dial? is it lacquered? Matte? Thoughts on the watch after two years of this video?
Personally I like the 059 better as well. I made the conscious decision to go for this model in particular. I think the dial is a little bit more interesting with both logos, and also you cannot under rate the discount you get if were to go with this model as well. Having the Seiko “main logo” also helps this watch fly under the radar a bit more. Although this watch is worth upwards of $1500, no one will guess that if they see Seiko on the dial. To me that is appealing, but I can also see why someone would want it to only say Grand Seiko.
I had the 40mm version with a black face. What let it down for me was the bracelet. I simply could not get it to fit properly. The only solution to me was to fit a leather strap to it. I was paying for a bracelet that was useless.
Just got my sbgx053 from Japan. It is that good, you are right. I didn’t hear you mention it, take a look it’s amazing. Question, do you really wear it daily, not just for dressing up? I want to wear it all the time but wondering if it’s too dressy? Thanks!
@@JackOnWrist Grand Seiko’s previous movement to 9F, 8J, has quickset hour from what I’ve read. I’ve read mixed things about which movement is more robust, but 8J is 2000-era, so those watches are 20 years old. All that has me leaning toward Citizen Chronomaster. Similar styling and size but with quickset hour hand and a perpetual calendar. It’s solar, which concerns me a bit. I like being able to replace 9F battery anywhere; not sure about solar capacitor.
Yeah I love the Citizen Chronomaster but part of the appeal of the 9F to me was the ability to simply be able to replace the battery. The 9F service interval is so long that other then a battery change, it’s a really easy watch to keep running. Like I said though, the Citizen is really nice and if you like the styling as much or more then maybe it’s the watch for you!
Hi any news on SBGX002. IM thinking of bidding on it.Their is little info on it..gold bezel and links but not sure if it's real gold or plated ..9f62 movement ...reserve 1000 plus fees...
why would you get the 259 model when it is more expensive?... it has the same case, movement.... and 1 less applied logo. So its technically cheaper to manufacture than 059
Some people hate that you got the same logo as a 150$ seiko watch. The gs only look more posh. It is just branding power. I like actually the stealth effect. Everybody would think its a cheap watch wich is not.
@@LaFritePerreGoat lol grand seiko still has the word ‘seiko’ in it. Can’t escape from that. Having seiko at the top makes sense from this model as gs at the bottom balances the dial. For the autos and spring drive, gs at the top makes sense to reduce clutter at the bottom
Excellent, thank you. This watch is a winner for sure. Good to see some positivity about the Seiko brand and quartz movements for a change. Becoming more than a little tired of the anti-Seiko narrative which quite a few watch channels are spinning at the moment and is, in my experience and opinion, largely undeserved. Watches from Seiko's main Japanese competitor and also Swatch Group brands are not nearly as perfect as they are sometimes made out to be. Unfortunately such spin from influencers develops a life of its own and before long subjective opinion/bias is perceived as objective fact. Seiko still has a an awful lot going for it, which you clearly understand.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I totally understand some of the push back on seiko in terms of QC and prices, but it’s almost been taken too far. It’s still a great brand with some awesome watches. Grand Seiko is given a lot of praise but not as much for there 9F line. I definitely feel as if people should value it more. Thank you for the comment!

Quick question , is the crown push pull or screw down.
Push Pull
Awesome watch. Quick question-does this have quicker hour like the 9F GMT, or is it quickset date instead? Thanks
This one does not. I believe that is on the new 9F models with the single “Grand Seiko” logo on the dial. That is definitely a feature I wish I had.
