    Thanks - beautiful GS movement. Every time I change a battery in a quartz movement I think of the hours of frustration I spent trying to work on mechanical movements. No more for me - quartz all the way!

      Hmm...Mechanical movement usually doesn't require a lot of tinkering unless you're a watch maker or when you want to regulate it.

    Casio: *has a battery inside*
    Grand Seiko: Installs the battery so that the ‘Seiko’ text is properly oriented when the user has to change the battery. Now THAT is attention to detail.

    Do any of you good watch fans know how long a quartz battery will last in a GS? The internet says 3 years however, I've spoken to a couple of watch spotters and a retailer, they've said 7-8 years isn't unusual. Is that right? Or only when the movement is new?

      Note where it is before starting to screw it on. Screw it on and see where it ends up. Note how much off the rotation is. Screw it off. Next, screw it on but rotate it the proper amount, so that it ends up correct.

    Did you pressure test the watch after the replacement ?

    • @GFWatch
      @GFWatch  3 роки тому +3

      No but I'm not too worried. I'm not going to go swimming or diving with this watch. I've done several battery replacements on my other quartz pieces and don't have any water ingress issue. If you bring your watch to a watchmaker or jeweler to charge the battery, I think most of them will not be doing pressure test if it's just a battery change.
      Having that said, I'll always assess the gasket condition. If it's bad, then replace it. Or if you're really concerned, replace the gasket every battery change.

    That is why I prefer quartz movements as there is no escapement working like a hand brake on a car to control the speed while driving and thereby using up most of its energy.
