Left knee in the middle works well. Can see it in your peripheral vision without really needing to stop looking at what's ahead, but might be harder for learners.
I definitely know where you're coming from about when you get in the passenger seat as a driver, it looks like you're really close to the kerb. Had it with my partner the other day where I thought she was risking hitting parked cars on the right but she swears she had space. Maybe it just looks different from there.

I watch your channel and I'm a fan. Would you recommend driving a manual or automatic car in terms of insurance what's best? I'm42 and learning to drive. Thank you

So glad you are here! Thank you - this is information online about your question which I have heard of too through the grape vine - Automatic car insurance tends to cost more than insurance for manual vehicles, because they are usually of a higher specification and more expensive to buy. Plus, an automatic gearbox costs more to repair than a manual gearbox if something goes wrong.

When you walk do you look at your feet or far ahead . Imagine the car being an extension of your body snd trust your eyes. Pet hate is people with poor lane discipline on a roundabout when it's busy. I don't mind at 3 o'clock in the morning but rush hour it's a big no no for me
